Wednesday’s move by the Fish and Wildlife Service not only protects the 10 acres on which the plants are found in a 3-square-mile area, but also another 900 surrounding acres deemed as “critical habitat.”
The declaration was prompted by litigation initiated by the Center for Biological Diversity. Environmentalists aren’t done yet: They say Ioneer’s plan for protecting the plant won’t survive federal scrutiny.
Not too many years ago, several efforts were made to derail major dams and power plants because of a tiny fish called the “snail darter.” It turned out to be much more prevalent than the environmental activists had asserted.

One TP memory: I took my 3 kids (ages 8, 13 & 15) with me to the rally in my state’s capital. The event organizer was an auto mechanic. All the signs were hand lettered. We talked to people in the crowd, including one German here on vacation, all of whom were earnest folks. Most of the people speaking addressed state-level issues. I told my two teens to observe carefully as the news would get it wrong. The next day Nancy Pelosi was on the news saying the TP folks were all elite, wealthy folks. My kids got a good lesson in civics.

First of all, I am not Roman Catholic, so I have no pony in this race, but I will make a point about churches in general.
Christians are called upon to dialogue with sinful people. Churches need to accept sinners into their buildings, otherwise they are not truly Christian and practicing Christ’s teachings.
That said, once you are inviting potentially evil people into your midst, there is a grave danger that some of those people will lead Christians astray. That is why the church was one of the first public entities to teach people how to read and to be literate. Seeing Notre Dame, the University of San Diego and some of these evangelical universities, I can’t say that the churches are continuing in that tradition, but I digress.
Once the people are literate, and can read and understand God’s word themselves, it becomes more difficult for charlatans to lead people astray.
