I think it depends on the industry. The defense industry and big pharma appear to control the government agencies applicable to them, whereas government appears to control big tech.
Unfortunately, most people won’t touch those subjects because:

Concerning the c. $1,000,000,000 jury award made against the showman Alex Jones: whatever you might think about this character, Freedom of Speech should have protected him from any lawsuits like this one, and any judge worth his salt or pepper should have thrown it out and threatened the lawyers who brought it with disbarment.
The problem with such lawsuits and the ridiculous awards from juries goes back decades: nearly 40 years ago a book by lawyer Jethro Lieberman called The Litigious Society sounded the alarm about too many lawsuits being filed. One of the things he blamed was the idea that the expansion of tort law in the 1960’s and 1970’s (and the idea that accidents could be reduced and product quality improved) would somehow “help the poor.”
Note that DEMS were dominant back then also!
Another problem was universities and law schools weakening enrollment standards in the 1960’s and ’70’s to help young men avoid military service in Vietnam. A glut of lawyers occurred, and universities and law schools enjoyed the money from these students so much – via expanded student loans from the FedGov – that the glut continued.*
As a result, “ambulance chasing” soon became respectable, as companies were demonized for greed over safety, and juries responded increasingly with ever larger sums against said “greedy companies.” That some companies were in fact notoriously negligent and greedy (e.g. DuPont) in polluting the areas around their factories did not help!
It used to be that judges would fine and threaten idiotic lawyers for bringing frivolous lawsuits to them with disbarment. But since most judges now are either part of the tort-law racket or will return to it after their term is up, you can see why most will no longer throw out such cases, which is why the courtrooms are jammed with what should be considered frivolous lawsuits.
And so it was a small jump from such cases to having people sue anyone for any kind of grievance!

The book by Jethro Lieberman mentioned above, The Litigious Society , is interesting in that the author – contradictorily – is no conservative, despite his complaints about all the lawsuits. He was quite in favor of “judicial activism.” He had no problem with an “imperial judiciary,” a negative term from Conservatives c. 60 years ago about judges legislating from the bench.
In some of those ambulance-chasing lawsuits, at least the damages had some relationship to the number of litigants who suffered actual damages.
Alex Jones did not actually harm anyone’s child, although I understand the emotional pain his statements added to the parents’ misery.

Thank you for this, I’ve said for years that the growth of tort law and its accompanying verdicts has wildly encouraged the Victim mentality = Entitled.
Everybody wants to be a victim of something/somebody if it means they’re owed. And it has metastasized into a very sick society.
Communities of Color in FL have used “fender benders” to go to friendly “neurologists” who always diagnose unprovable “soft-tissue injury” so they can get policy limits over someone tapping their fender at 3 mph.
In consequence a substantial number of juries are not judging the merits so much as dishing out the cash in hopes someday someone will return the favor.
Tort reform is so so long overdue.
Unfortunately, there was never a trial as to guilt or innocence; the Judge, in both cases, determined on their own that Alex Jones was guilty and thus both hearings were for the determination of awarding damages only. Alex Jones was never allowed to put on a defense as the judges had unilaterally declared him guilty.
Pretty sure the appeals processes will go on for many years until Alex Jones can actually have a guilty/innocent of the charges trial. And that will probably mean this whole charade has to end up at the Supreme Court which will either rule he gets to have a trial or they will say he has no standing (their latest gimmick for hiding from their responsibilities).

She previously supported Bernie Sanders in his run against Hillary.
She was pro-life but then became pro-choice.
I don’t think we can know what she will stand firm on other than elimination of a lot of war promoting. Everything else about her positions is murky in my opinion and I believe her to be a very calculating politician, which makes her a formidable opponent.

What I would like to know is what other markets suffered because of these sales? It had to come from somewhere. Was it alcohol? Food? Housing? Child support?
In MA, it is allowable to cultivate 6 plants per adult. Imagine the yield on 24 plants for a neighbor and spouse with 2 adult dependents in college?
Not ‘allowed’ to sell it, but trading/bartering occurs.
And the pot store in town loses revenue
Stores are fronts.
Sure, they sell legal, taxed and tagged weed.
But they are run, staffed, and supplied by massive producers.
These growers and distributors all connect under a legal premise,
which allows them constant points of access/distribution to black markets.
Lets face it, legalization has destroyed the pot business. It has bottomed out the price, crippling the economies of little crap towns all over the west coast. It has encouraged everyone, including cartels, to use land and space to illegally grow more than allowed by law. Large cartel funded farms operate with slave labor, and fuel a human trafficking network.
And since when has the govt done anything correctly with our tax dollars?

It’s estimated that 10% of the weed grown in Oregon goes to shops and personal consumption.
The majority of the rest is exported out of state.
We grow something like 2,000 tons of weed a year, just here in Oregon.
In my little town, once the logging was undercut by libtards in the 80s, the number one economic driver
has been weed.
I live in one of the poorest counties in the US, Josephine County.
Look it up.
But there is no shortage of massive 4 wheelers, tricked out boats and RVs, corvettes, etc.
There are weekly massive raids of tens of thousands of plants in my county.
Let me tell you, NOBODY here likes legal marijuana anymore.
The black market prices are often 1/2 the cost of store prices.
And since everybody and their mom can grow plants now, they are.
Right now, in Oregon, you can buy a pound of outdoor grown weed for 300-400$.
A POUND.
So not only are there less sales from stores, there might even be increased usage
despite What the state tax receipts say.

Maybe this is a silver lining to the destruction of the economy? Perhaps people will realize that life is worth living, family means the world, and friends and neighbors are golden? Might I even hope that these folks will come into contact with someone who can lead them to Christ?

Actually, the odd thing about this is, during times of bad economies drug and alcohol usage tends to go way up. So the sales declining tells me one thing. The black market is undercutting the legal market. Now that pot is legal, people can get it tax free for half the cost from their friendly neighborhood dealer. It’s really quite simple. The novelty of buying it in a legal shop has worn off and many users are going back to their original sources for the drug. That IS what is happening. They realized the stuff in the shops is no different then what street dealers have and they can get it waaaay cheaper. The cost and the fancy little jar or bag are the only thing separating the street from the store.
Actually, Big Box marijuana is notoriously less potent for all their fancy growing techniques.

Albertson’s has been weak for many years…Kroger, especially in Texas has been a strong contender. Kroger is trying to gain market share to take on it’s main rivals Wal Mart and HEB.
For the consumer it means less competition and therefore higher prices.
Not sure on the numbers and how they compare to the rivals, but it appears to be a smart move for Kroger from a market share standpoint.
And, this purely a Capitalism move of which i am in favor of.

Here in North Texas, Albertsons has sold off or moved out of it’s leased facilties … over the past 10 years. Albertson’s is shrinking rapidly …. and we now have the major chain HEB greatly expanding its presence into the domains occuppied by Krogers and remaining Albertsons locations.

Publix, Food Giant, and Winn Dixie, and the Co-op locally in the Big Bend of FL. The big names locally are Aldi, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s. Of the “big names”, I’ve only ever been in Whole Foods and that only twice.
Luckily, you have to go to Gainesville or Ocala before you encounter a woketard Koger. Our Albertson’s bailed about 20 years ago. We had 2 of them in Tallahassee at the time, one on N. Monroe and one on Apalachee Parkway.
HEB is so wonderful, when we are in East Texas or San Antonio we buy stuff to take back to West Texas.

As you say, there are a lot of reasons for the dearth of babies in Europe. Without women, women who are willing to carry a child from conception to birth, the whole enterprise of repopulation is a nonstarter, no matter the reasons why it’s not happening.
Women without men are barren stock. I won’t just blame the fairer sex in this. I see men hanging on men, holding hands, etc. and women going alone about their day. It’s frustrating.

Women speak of how they want to be “equal” to men, as if that were a good thing. It isn’t, in my view. We are each complements to the other, not competitors. Both are needed to produce future generations.

Interesting read. Basically (as best my aging out of date mind can decipher) boils down to there is no problem with the “irreconcilable” differences between the Theory of Relativity and theories of quantum mechanics. The problem is that we don’t know the correct way to think about reality.

By definition, a US government bond cannot default, as the borrower ‘also’ issues the currency need to pay both the principal and interest. This is why in a ‘free’ market all private debt must have a higher interest rate than the US government.
Another neat trick is that all interest due on all the US government bonds on the Fed’s balance sheet is resubmitted back to the Federal Government, minus their 6% fee shared by all the primary dealers.
Only US Government Bonds held by a bank, country, corporation, or individual actually costs the Federal Government any real interest net cashflow cost. Another big chunk of the US debt is held as ‘loans’ from the SS/Med system, plus Federal Government Pension funds ect. as an accounting item for when the US government was spending this payroll or similar deduction cash flow stream, rather than putting it in the Algore’s ‘lockbox’ whatever that means.
Look in the end, all this back-and-forth flow in the financial system is to keep the ‘official’ value of the banking system’s assets higher than its liabilities.
This is not the issue. It’s a bunch of electrons on a computer somewhere.
The issue is all these electronic IOUs must somehow find real purchasing power in the real economy when those that have claims to them want to use them, in the real economy. Further, some private loans will go bad, destroying purchasing power the old fashion way by default vs the way governments have always used, inflation, in which bond interest rates are well below the real inflation rate. We have been there for some time in which government bonds, and even private ones pay less interest than the real inflation rate.
Regardless, a vibrant economy must have abundant and cheap energy (plus labor and capital) in order to ‘deliver’ on these past promises of future purchasing power in a manner close to what these IOUs could have purchased years and even decades ago.
Many of the things we plan on consuming many years from now will not store easily for decades, say fresh eggs. Thus we attempt to store the future desire for fresh eggs in the future with various forms of debt instruments and assets. Essentially we are trying to move ‘current’ purchasing power into the future.
The Davos’s WEF stooges are attacking the very abundant cheap energy pillar that provides support for the purchasing power of all these IOUs in the future. These IOUs were issued in extreme excess over many years. Even with PDJT pushing to increase productivity and energy production it was going to be difficult. The only way to deliver on these past promises is with a ‘growing’ economy which requires even more cheap and more abundant energy, plus greater efficiency.
To be destroying the productive economy while simultaneously issuing even more IOUs could only be the policy of madmen and/or those bent on the destruction of modern civilization and thus bring forth the mass murder of mankind.
In the near term, the issue is the use of dollars outside the borders of the US (approximately half of dollars or claims on dollars via IOUs in existence). Namely the Euro-dollar system, not to be confused with the Euro. This is in the process of collapsing which will shut down global trade and many complex products will not be able to be produced.
