My rain pattern in NW Central Florida has been jacked up this summer. Normal daily afternoon rain showers were absent most of July and my summer garden gets weary of groundwater irrigation as it has so many dissolved solids.

We have the same issue in Oklahoma. Irrigation from the well temporarily perks up the plants, but you can see it poison them if you do it long enough. Most notably I notice it in my fruit tree orchard. We were dry from the first week of June until August 21st. My larger 3 acre pond is down about 5 feet and sits at about 2 acres now… We have gotten 2 rains totaling about 2.25″ inches in the last 10 days, but need another 5″ just to mend the cracks in the ground that you could put a fist in

A family member who was a higher up in a manufacturing company told me a few years back that they tried to keep their last facility making some components in America, but could not because of all the expensive Environmental/Quality Control/Unions/OSHA/Labor/Taxes etc etc which China has little to none of. UKRAINE’S SOUTHERN OFFENSIVE
Ukraine’s offensive in Kherson Oblast north of the Dnipro river, began August 29, 2022.
Russia also announced that it was a failure on August 29, 2022. Putin’s wishes do not make truth.
THE BATTLEFIELD
The southern front is roughly 150+ miles long. Most reports say Russia has about 20,000 troops there, with combat soldiers perhaps 3/4 of the total. Ukraine may have as many, or fewer, soldiers there. This is not enough for a continuous front line. Forces on both sides likely defend key points, with scouting patrols in undefended areas to monitor enemy movements.
Ukraine has been very cagey about details of their offensive. They lack enough armored vehicles for a classic blitzkrieg. They are using other tactics.
Ukraine’s wants to isolate the area north of the Dnipro river (Kherson Oblast), deprive Russians troops of supplies and reinforcements, and gradually wear them down.
PREPPING THE BATTLEFIELD
About six weeks ago, Ukraine began small unit probing attacks, mostly on the western end of the frontline between Kherson (held by Russians) and Mykolaiv ( held by Ukraine).
These attacks provided intelligence on Russian deployments and gained ground useful for the coming offensive.
Within the last few weeks Ukraine has stepped up its interdiction of Russian Ground Lines of Communication (GLOCs) to deny resupply efforts. The accurate NATO standard 155mm artillery and HIMARS 45 mile range rockets are used.
HIMARS rocket strikes on the only three bridges over the Dnipro have rendered them mostly useless for military vehicles and railroad traffic. Russian attempts to establish pontoon bridges get HIMARS strikes as needed. Ferry operations the same.
Other HIMARS strikes target ammunition depots, command locations, radars, petrol resupply points, equipment concentrations and electronic jammers that disrupt command and drone communications. The good accuracy of Ukrainian rocket and tube artillery forces Russians to move targets out of range, like the commanders of the southern front being moved east of the Dnipro river.
Ukraine has also attacked Russian airbases in Crimea. 8-10 attack aircraft were destroyed at the Sebastopol airfield and another Crimean airfield was also attacked. The Russian navy relocated its aircraft further south.
THE OFFENSIVE
Ukraine broke through the front line on August 29, forcing the withdrawal of a paratrooper unit and a unit from the Donetsk “Republic”. This probably means Ukrainian forces were strong enough to move through mostly undefended areas, flank the Russians, and force their withdrawal.
Ukraine says almost nothing about their offensive. But, given the sparsely defended territory, they are likely forcing Russian units to retreat with flanking movements. Russia units are probably under orders to not get encircled, and are falling back on Kherson in as orderly a fashion as they can manage.
My guess is the Russians are gradually concentrating on Kherson in hopes of forcing Ukraine into a bloody attrition siege.
It will take awhile for this to play out. With dwindling supplies and escape routes cut off, at least for vehicles, morale of Russian troops will be tested.
It’s way too early to know what will unfold.
It’s never too early for Putin to try to propagandize events in an attempt to keep Russian morale up and discourage Ukrainians.
If Russia has the strength remaining to conduct dangerous attacks in Donbas or the Kharkiv areas, this could undermine Ukraine’s southern offensive.

There are no spares as a direct consequence of the sanctions, thus no way for Russia to fix it.
