But there is a workaround in that a President can name an acting say Commerce Secretary for a 270 day period. Why couldn’t Trump nominate America Frst acting secretary ‘A’ for 270 days and then nominate America First acting secretary B for the next 270 days and so on thus bypassing the Senate ?que

McConnell had various senators do pro forma appearances for short periods on the floor. Therefore, the Senate was never technically in recess. Presidents can’t do recess appointments unless the Senate is closed. McConnell does “lawfare” too.
He was able to do at least one of these ‘acting appointments’. Grenell.
there are all sorts of different ways these things can happen. This one was in part because the senate rejected somebody. But the “acting” appointment had to be somebody who had already had a similar approval and Grenell was an approved Ambassador.
BTW Recess Appointments are not “acting”. This is a Constitutional way to make appointments. They are time limited, but the time limit is to the end of the Senate’s session. There are two sessions of each Congress. And Congress determines when those sessions end. So it could be up to a year, but it could also be less.
A recess appointment can be approved by the Senate and last longer. The “acting” appointments are more convoluted. Their clock can be reset every time the Senate rejects somebody for the position.
In my example, Trump nominated Ratcliff and installed Maguire as acting. Ratcliffe withdrew because the Senate was rejecting him. Macguire was telling Congress Russia was trying to reelect Trump. He was out and Grenell was put in his place. Ratcliff was renominated. Grenell started releasing documents that the House had asked to be declassified. And magically, the Senate confirmed Ratcliff who didn’t release any more documents.
So both Grenell and Maguire were “Acting Director of National Intelligence”.

Not sure Congress needs to be in recess for POTUS to make “acting” appointment. IIRC, PDJT had at least one of those.
He also could have had “special committees” to parallel the duties of Secretary positions, like the COVID task force. IMO, HHS would be tasked with a pandemic response, but PDJT created another group to respond. Their powers might have had limits, but they would have served MAGA better.

Confirmation of political appointees was not his biggest problem. Remember that there are thousands of career Senior Executive Service employees (SES). The SES is a corps of executives charged with running the federal government, these positions include senior management positions within most federal agencies. I’ve always believed that it was from within this corps that most of the sabotage and damage to his administration originated.
Fauci is SES. Shutdowns were the greatest sabotage and damage to America, all to hurt Trump and establish control over the people.
But SES is worse. It removes direct control of government from the President and buffers indirect control from Congress. And it gives control to faceless bureaucrats, i.e. to the government itself.
SES removes democratically elected people from control over the government.

I checked the Accuweather channel this morning, and before my local forecast I saw a video of a haboob roll in over a windfarm in west Texas and the windmills whose blades were spinning at a fever pitch suddenly locked up tighter than a snaredrum when the dust cloud enveloped them.

I bet it happened the day before last. I’m 2 hours north of TX, or 3 hours east of the panhandle. We had had 70mph+ gusts and storms Monday afternoon that came from the panhandle of TX heading east then turned south towards Dallas once they hit the OKC area. The farmer north of me plowed all his fields Sunday and early Monday, and I witnessed the same dust clouds here as the storm began it’s march South.
The weather guy made a joke about the windmills “not liking the dust”.

I know we all like to dump on wind farms around here, but the max design speed of a turbine is 50-55 mph before emergency braking kicks in. The turbines are oil lubricated and sealed from dust like any other rotating axle. They undergo annual maintenance, and someone has to climb up the ladder inside the shaft to inspect the turbine.
There are some studies on the impact of dust storms on turbine efficiency, from small amounts of blade pitting causing small turbulence, to dust buildup adding mass and giving a slight rotational imbalance. These are small effects, like under 5% over the life of the unit.
My guess is was over speed lockout to prevent damage to the turbine.
My understand is even “small amounts of blade pitting causing small turbulence” leads to more and more pitting and more and more turbulence. This pitting can cause significant “leading-edge erosion” which can severely affect the entire wind turbine and the windmill’s aerodynamic. Windmills require much more maintenance than the public has been lead to believe! These aren’t the Dutch wooden windmills that have been in use for hundreds of years! These climate change windmills will become a pox on our countryside visually, environmentally and on our pocket books!!!

Tons of people at my workplace have been out with COVID in the last few weeks. All vaxxed – most boosted. And the ones I know personally have had COVID more than once.
I know someone at work whose wife pushed him to get it and deeply regrets it as he now has chest pains and was recently out with Covid.

The reason I’m posting this on this thread and not the open thread, is because I’m sick of Americans struggling with their weight being blamed for it, when it should be obvious to anyone by now that there are factors in play other then consuming too many calories, and it should also be obvious that when people are turning to the medical profession for help with this health hazard, they are getting outdated garbage instead of help.
Also, our government appears to be deliberately trying to cover up contributory causes to obesity, rather than get to the bottom of it.
I remember, a number of years back, talking to someone about the obesity issue, and telling her “it’s almost as if they have caught the fat virus”.
She later sent me a study that theorized that it was almost just that- these people had some kind of gut damage.
If any of you read Doctor Atkins book when it first came out, he was against the use of artificial sweetener, due to safety concerns.
Artificial Sweeteners: The Ugly
For decades now the standard was “substitute sugar with these” where these changed over time.
First, saccharin. Then it was terrible, said to cause cancer. But it never disappeared, did it? Red packets at the breakfast bar anyone?
Then aspartame, which is in damn near everything “diet” these days. But concerns arose there on a chemical structure basis and remain unresolved.
Then we had sucralose and, later, stevia.
There are also a number of others (of which Xylitol is one) that I won’t go into much and isn’t part of this article really, other than to note that most of those are (1) very dangerous if ingested by a dog — it can kill them — and (2) often cause serious bouts of the craps if you eat them in volume. Xylitol specifically is extremely toxic to the bacteria that cause cavities, and thus it makes for a good toothpaste or, if you prefer, a chewing gum. Just don’t swallow it.
This new study, however, is cause for serious concern, specifically due to these sweeteners being recommended for diabetics and an apparent now-shown causal link to changes in the microbiome in the gut.

Years ago there was an Israeli study that fed mice artificial sweeteners and another group sugar.
The artificial sweetener group developed metabolic syndrome, the sugar group didn’t.
They then took gut biome samples (poop) from each group, sterilized their guts using antibiotics, then swapped and implanted the biome samples.
The former sugar group developed metabolic syndrome, the artificial sweetener group were cured.
From that point on I have totally avoided artificially sweetened everything…
That’s interesting. I’m thinking now how fat surgery ends diabetes (type II) in some people and they don’t know why.

Lots of fascinating info about healthy biomes of Africans that are still true hunter-gatherers. There was a lot of fiber in their diets.

Lots of other claims out there that these biomes need fiber. Sugars and highly processed foods do not make it to the biomes.
But little true scientific knowledge. Mostly theories and fads.
Oddly, some Japanese can digest seaweed that we can’t. At first that was taken as a racial trait, but it was shown to be due to other things in their diet that gave them the tools needed to digest the plants.
There is some research that these biomes have influences all throughout our bodies. Even on mental processes. Not clear to me how much is fact and how much is fad.

Their objective never was “to seize control of Ukraine.” (That would have been much easier to do than what they did.) In February, Putin stated what the mission objectives were – and, were not. In two previous articles, I looked into the shady circumstances surrounding Deborah Birx’s appointment to the White House Coronavirus Response Task Force and the laughable lack of actual science behind the claims she used to justify her testing, masking, distancing and lockdown policies.
Considering all that, the questions arise: Who was actually in charge of Deborah Birx and whom was she working with?
But first: Who cares?
Here’s why I think it’s important: If we can show that Birx and the others who imposed totalitarian anti-scientific testing, masking, social distancing, and lockdown policies, knew from the get-go that these policies would not work against an airborne respiratory virus, and nevertheless they imposed them FOR REASONS OTHER THAN PUBLIC HEALTH, then there is no longer acceptable justification for any of those measures.
Furthermore, whatever mountains of post-facto bad science were concocted to rationalize these measures are also completely bunk. Instead of having to go through each ridiculous pseudo-study to demonstrate its scientific worthlessness, we can throw the whole steaming pile in the garbage heap of history, where it belongs, and move on with our lives.
In my admittedly somewhat naive optimism, I also hope that by exposing the non-scientific, anti-public-health origins of the Covid catastrophe, we may lower the chances of it happening again.
I almost feel sorry for some of these nice people looking into the scamdemic simply because no one else will.

A BIT OF HISTORY
How did the democrats learn to force the division of our Country and when did it start?
I’ve been looking into this because to understand the present situation you must investigate the past, namely, the beginning of “block voting” by the democrats.
Even though control of congress for the better part of the 20th century until 1955 was split, with some exceptions there was no “consistent block voting” by either party.
This changed in 1960, under the Eisenhower administration’s second term, with led to the passing of the “Clean Air Act” in 1960. That battle was commonly referred as the “SMOG WAR”.
It is my view that this single event taught the democrats how to Block Vote. They all voted as a party Block, while the Republicans split their vote, as they always have. Not that it would have mattered much because democrats controlled the congress with a large majority (284-153) – the highest difference in many years.
