Going back to the Republican revolution of 1994, CFR traitor Speaker Newt Gingrich was able to stifle and control them through his Speaker position. When Collins and Murkowski “cross party lines” to vote ‘with the Dems’ on crucial legislation, they are NOT ‘crossing’ McConnell (NOBODY in the Swamp crosses Mitch!). These ‘squish’ votes are like aces up his sleeve, that Mitch plays when there is legislation which, as part of the kabuki theater, the R’s have to APPEAR to favor, but don’t really want.
Recently, Manchin and Synema played a similar role.
The D party needed to appear eager to repeal the fillibuster rule, and so advanced legislation to do just that.
But, knowing the R party will eventually gain a majority in the Senate, and that with no fillibuster rule the base would expect them to ram legislation thru that the base wants (and that McConnell doesn’t want) the ‘leadership’ gang of four wrote, directed and acted out their little play.
First, to distract they put out a BIG shiny object; the initial $600 billion BBB plan, which they had no intention of passing,..and paired with it the fillibuster repeal.
Then, they had Manchin and Synema play their roles, torpedoing the BBB bill, and the fillibuster repeal simultaneously.
And now they resurrect that portion of BBB they REALLY wanted, Manchin suddenly finds reasons to support it, and Synema will too.
If you watch McCarthy, and before him Ryan, it does not take a body language expert to see WHO is subservient to who.
Despite the Speaker being a Constitutional office, and in the line of succesion, MITCH is calling the shots.
If you embrace the Uniparty view, its equally easy to see Nanzi and Chuck take there cues from Mitch.

Not quite. For me, the GOP itself is unacceptable. The fact that an entire political party has nobody acceptable in it makes it irrational to support it as a party.

Laws already on the books mandate that the FCC monitor Media Ownership, and restrict the ownership of media outlets (local tv, radio and newspapers) specifically in order to prevent the control of the media we currently see.
Unfortunately, the legislation gives the FCC the responsibility of deciding the ownership limits, and as 6 media conglomerates gobbled up media outlets, the percentage of market share limits of the FCC, were simply raised.
A real Opposition party would have had Congressional hearings, and “called on the carpet” the FCC, and produced new legislation, establishing the limits by statute.
Similarly, Big tech COULD have been “broken up” early on.
In order to succesfully do their “long march thru the institutions” they had to have a way to prevent any organised resistance.
An obvious, blatant one party rule, such as they had for 90 years in Mexico, simply wasn’t an option.

Rarely do we experience this in such a direct way as we did during the pandemic. We were amazed to see huge corporations that control vast amounts of digital communications openly censoring on behalf of the CDC and the WHO. We know because they said so, and still do. Perhaps we might have assumed that administrators of these companies were as confused about the science as the politicians were. Maybe it was civic pride at work here.

On the last sentence, of course it is since China has been totally successful at BUYING “our” politicians via legal bribes from multinational corporations called “campaign donations” and via the completely legal enrichment of the familiy members of key politicians. WalMart has always struck me as “an extremely vulnerable company.” Every one of their stores is the size of an aircraft hangar. It requires dozens of trucks a day to keep it supplied. It tries to “carry everything at once,” entirely without focus. This strategy might seem “wildly successful,” until the day finally comes when it isn’t. (Remember: this company is only a distributor.)
Contrast this, for example, with “Dollar General.” One-story, typically very small stores that are certainly going to be the closest ones for you to get to. And, they can typically be resupplied with a single truck. Many other general-supplies stores such as hardware stores and auto-parts stores have adopted basically the same model. While “also only a distributor,” their exposure to any inevitable downturn is much smaller.
DG is it for me. I will drive out of my way to avoid a Walmart.
In many ways I despise walmart, especially for their Grocery store dept. Grocery stores in most cases treat their employees decently. I never buy groceries from them for that reason. Support your local grocery stores and of course small businesses
I believe I saw a “news” clip this week that said all of their stores are now self-checkout only?
Are they possibly shuffling their cashiers into the stores or company elsewhere, and getting rid of their chaff instead?
Either way, people are being replaced by machines.
I think Main Street USA complained about this when Wal-mart was first taking over Main Street and they called us conspiracy theorists.
They aren’t all self-checkout yet but, Walmart is trying it in several locations. I fully expect self-checkout to be expanded quickly.
Walmart transitioned to mostly self checkout at all of their stores shortly after declaring they would support $15 per hour minimum wages.
They seem to me to already be down to the bare bones.
I try to avoid shopping there, but recently went for an item I couldn’t find anywhere, couldn’t even order from the company itself. Yes, I found the item, but it was locked into its holder. I looked for a Wal-Mart employee to unlock it so I could buy it, but without success. I left empty-handed
What’s the point of stocking items people can’t buy?
The walmart where I live had to fire about 95% of their employees a few months ago due to theft. They had $1 flashlights locked behind glass doors the theft was so bad. You know, someone should investigate Amazon and Facebook market place and EBay for sale of stolen items. This is how people are making a living now; steal and resale, combined with drug dealing and you have a well paid job without a boss.
Also our Walmart is not all self checkout but they could use a few more. I much prefer to check out my own stuff.
Perhaps people should consider avoiding self checkout as much as possible in order to support human employment and resist the increasing automation that is leading increasingly to worker irrelevance, including specifically requesting a human employee for checkout. More automation is occurring not only in retail but also in major warehouses with robots replacing workers. For the same reason, people should consider decreasing the use of ATMs and go inside the bank to ask for a human teller so they do not become more and more obsolete. There are other actions that people might consider to reduce the effect of automation on employment.

The last time I went through a Walmart checkout with a human (about 18-24 months ago), the human couldn’t figure out how to give me my change.
For a just-over-2$ purchase, I gave her a five dollar bill and exact change so I would get dollar bills back instead of more change).
She came to a dead stop. Stared at me in confusion. I tried to help: “This way, you can just give me $3 so I don’t get more change to carry.”
She kept saying, “But you gave me too much money.” We did that 2-3 times. Deer-in-the-headlights status continued.
She finally had to call a supervisor over who gave me my change. There was no evidence that she ever understood the reasoning.
Supporting human employment may be a good idea somewhere but I have no interest in supporting it when there is no basic intelligence or everyday grasp on how things work.

She said they were cleaning and restocking today.

So I called my sister, who works for Walmart corporate.
She said that inventory drawdowns (chain issues), and COVID absences/labor shortages had hit some

Yeah, Walmart isn’t on as strong a ground as one might think.

I think that it is quite reasonable to assume that “the entire matter is not yet done.”
The Governor has now pre-emptively exercised his first and least-intrusive executive prerogative available to him under the laws of Florida. But he, and the State Government, obviously reserves all of the others. He has now exercised the first tier of his privileges, which he can probably do without any sort of “judicial review,” and in this way “stopped the bleeding.”
In the end: “this guy has been called out, and he is toast.”
Could we add to this the ” publicly elected bond ” issue to force the bond to be revocked and a stepdown of the prosecuter?

Keeping the wars going helps the propaganda machine spin war as something normal and expected and to be continuously prepared for. It acts as an immunosuppressant against the public’s natural, healthy rejection of war. The more normalized war becomes, the more suppressed our collective immune system’s rejection of it becomes.
War is the absolute worst thing in the world. It’s the most insane thing humans do. The most destructive. The least sustainable. The most conducive to human suffering. Only by very aggressive narrative management can the public be dissuaded from insisting on peace.

Got an ad on my phone this morning for a local car dealership. They were advertising used cars, and I scrolled through just to check – most of the ones advertised were from 2022, ’21, and ’20. There was one from ’17 and two from ’18, but the rest were from the past two/three years. There were Jeeps, mostly, a BMW, a Hyundai, and I don’t remember the rest.
