It is a solar water heater and if the ambient temperature is high enough, they may be trying to prevent it from scalding.

I could be mistaken but that looks like a solar hot water system to me. I’ve got three similar panels and a bit bigger tank sitting out in the shop. If in a very hot climate, they’ll shade the system so it doesn’t overheat the water.

I don’t know how rigorous US Military training has been in recent decades.
Given our long involvements in Afghanistan and Iraq, I would be extremely shocked if the Army and Marines had softened up training at all, probably the contrary.
No officer wants to have their career destroyed because poorly trained troops performed badly, with high casualties.
When I went through Army 8 week basic training, the Advanced Infantry Training was 12 weeks.
20 weeks was the MINIMUM training the US Army thought was necessary before committing soldiers to combat, barring emergencies, such as very early in the Korean War.
Knowing how to move and use equipment in battle in coordination with your combat unit has nothing to do with looking tough.
There is an element of truth to this post. From the things I’ve read and watched, the Russians are freeing up so much territory that they need new recruits. They need them to backfill and protect the towns that they have liberated so that their seasoned solders can remain on the front lines. This new rearguard is more like a security presence to thwart Ukrainian terrorism and sabotage behind the lines. They will see little to no combat and get their training on the fly. Makes absolute perfect sense for the Russians.
I should add that it is the Ukrainians that have lost so many experienced soldiers that it is they that are shoving weapons into the hands of any able bodied male from teens to seniors and forcing them into combat. Little to no training, no combat experience, to the front lines to the slaughter. Do you need links?…

Except when you are outgunned 40 to 1. This is a typical Russian playbook artillery war and they have literally been pounding the Ukrainians day in and day out for weeks. The Ukrainians couldn’t even reach the Russians until the last 2 weeks or so. The Russians lost a lot of soldiers early when they tried pushing into towns using tanks/troops. They switched quickly to a scorched earth artillery campaign which takes much longer but reduces the casualty rate because the Ukrainians couldn’t really reach to fire back. This continues today and Ukraine has admitted they are losing 100’s of soldiers PER DAY. We’ll see how the battlefield changes now that Ukraine has longer range artillery systems.
But make no mistake, this war could end TOMORROW and could have been prevented but we have completely evil/incompetent people in our government who want war at all costs. At the expense of 100’s of thousands of Ukrainian lives.
The same though occurred to me.
The Russian Army’s priority will be to replenish combat units, and create new combat units, if they have enough manpower.
But, if I were in their shoes, I’d swap out soldiers presently doing lower risk occupation duty, send them to combat units, and replace them with the new recruits, who then have extra time to get more training.
Not a replacement for good training, but better than throwing clueless guys into the meat grinder.
Those reports are of Ukraine citizens being pressed into military service. Russia has not tapped into their reserves–they don’t need to. They rotate their troops in frequently as the Ukes are trapped in their ditches with their command structure either not present or fleeing back away from the battles. Also the local militias DPR/LPR forces are doing most of the fighting for Russia in the east.
Ukraine PR is just like the Democrats–projectionism at it’s finest.

I’m unvaxed and never had covid. Have been taking various vitamins for 50 years. Healthy as a horse and this inspite of growing up in a very polluted town in Northeast Ohio..I mean PPG chemical division dumpted chemicals in a swampy area right out in the open…we would drive by it and my mom would say ‘that’s death valley’…she lived to 94 just died of old age..wore out. If you have any slavic blood in you and are a woman you might live forever (lol).
I do have one vile of the horse paste in case of emergency which hasn’t happened yet, but good to have. I have not been to doctor in over a year because I am not wearing a mask sorry and they keep calling me to come in and get the jab. Not going anywhere near that place.
I met a 98 year old woman a while back; she was driving a pickup truck and getting ready to go for a walk around the lake…her words of advice to me: “Don’t go to doctors”.
