Her dear sister did not make it out of Auschwitz although Corrie Ten Boom did but all in a blur for she had passed out in the midst of the liberation. She awakened in a hospital room, with beautiful clean sheets, pillows, flowers in the room, I think . . . I believe she almost thought she was waking up in heaven . . .

Sometimes when I’m skimming articles and posts on conservative forums, a foreboding sense of hopeless doom comes over me.
The main articles and opinion pieces we comment on are often more scary than the quick comments we posters make. That’s because quickly formulated thoughts are likely to be more foolish than the original article.
The opinion pieces, presumably, have some time invested in thinking through a logical argument, typing it out, and refining it with a series of rewrites. These pieces should avoid lots of false trails, dumb analyses
and preposterous statements.
What I’m finding, is that the extra care supposedly taken with opinion pieces too often latches onto obscure, or debatable, facts, and lunges after them down Alice’s rabbit hole to fantasy.
The resulting cognitive messes are often astounding, only surpassed by many commenters eagerly supporting the mess they just read.
It makes me wonder how humanity ever evolved to the level of bashing rocks together to get a few chips good for cutting things.
Or, alternatively, that I could only nod in sad agreement if a creator decided to flush us away as a really bad idea.

I no longer keep track of how Alaska organizes its time zones. It used to be that Alaska was in 3 time zones. Juneau was in the Pacific Time Zone. Some “brilliant” democrat ordered that all Alaska be in Pacific so that they could be in better contact. What a mess. I left shortly after that.
Now it looks like Juneau got its comeuppance and is moved to the time zone in the center of the state. Checking, there are now only 2 time zones, Alaskan which is one hour after Pacific and Hawaiian/Aleutian.
I have no idea how it all changed. But at the time Anchorage had half the state’s population. Add Fairbanks to the north and you know who will win that vote. Sounds like a true victory for the center. (Of the State)

I learned about “The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates” here on CTH and then got the book (by Pastor Matthew Trewhella). I think this is a key back to what our Founding Fathers set forth when they set up our Republic, with all of the “checks and balances” – if you look at what is called “extreme federalism” – that is, taking back power from the tyranny of the federal government, you are limiting the opportunities for those in the federal government to engage in tyranny. Part of the taking back is this business of interposing.
Our Founding Fathers were intelligent and deeply educated – they had studied government, empire, tyranny, the background of what brought about the Magna Carta – they knew about “The Doctrine of the Lesser Magistrates” in the story of the town of Magdeburg in Germany (Pastor Trewhella discusses the story of Magdeburg in detail). They of course knew about Rome – as a Republic – and then when it devolved into rule by tyrants – insane tyrants such as Caligula.
Archbishop Cordileone has chosen to “interpose” himself between Nancy Pelosi, et al, re abortion – notwithstanding the stance of his higher-up, Pope Francis. Now Pope Francis really thought he was doing something to fix the Archbishop’s wagon but it only highlights that the Pope is on the side of abortion, not on the side of the babies in the womb.
