Like most Americans, I was outraged. Along with the weird beard taking over we were treated to The Revolutionary Guard and their constant protest in Tehran and what was their favorite chant and how they portrayed the USA as The Great Satan.
This used to anger me to no end, as I believed at the end of the day we were all Americans and want what’s best for the USA, when nothing could be further from the truth. In retrospect and 43 years in the rearview, I am shocked and saddened that I agree with the Iranians. After all they’ve been dealing with the pointy end of the spear, thrust by criminal swamp rats at least since WWII.
It makes one think, how would you or I describe our government? I hate it but The Great Satan fits rather nicely. Our government’s State & Federal, the Executive, Legislative and Judicial are all compromised and captured. I keep trying to remember some important goals / objectives from our VSG P DJT. One of them was for the USofA to become independent. That included all aspects of manufacturing as well as energy independence. A comment along the way (as I recall) was that our President could not do what needed to be done by himself.

The only thing worse was the government corn-meal which had the consistency and texture of coarse sand. Mine was a country school, too, and my experience matches yours, 3XALADY. I recall how I looked forward every school day to lunch in the cafeteria.
Besides the cooking, the children were different back then. We weren’t as finicky.
Between-meal snacks were limited; candy was mostly a holiday treat; no chips or fries, no tacos or pizza; besides always milk at meals, we quenched our thirst with tap water or spring water or water from the garden hose.
I went to a country elementary school. The food was great and we could have seconds until it was all gone. The ladies made the most wonderful peanut butter cookies and they used a potato masher to push it down and it had the imprint on the top of the cookie. I can taste it right now!
I looked forward to that day of the week when beans and franks were served at school. Lots of ketchup made it a gourmet feast back then.
I remember the meatloaf and the real mashed taters. Can’t do much with corn and green beans. Desserts were made by ladies. We didn’t have pizza because we didn’t know what that was and maybe hot dogs too. We were country country.

The example used was the recent river crossing where Ukraine destroyed roughly a mechanized battalion.
Russia has made good river crossings. Either they did a proper job of a difficult task, or Ukraine lacked sufficient artillery or ammo in the area to respond.
The Russian army has demonstrated significant problems. The Ukrainian army isn’t perfection, but they’ve resisted well with less, and less capable, equipment far longer than experts predicted at the start.
The lost “battalion” is not confirmed. Reports are from the Ukraine which all have “sources say”. Reports have a “unit”, “battalion” and other terms. The damaged pontoon bridge can be seen in drone photos. There are damaged vehicles in the area.
“Destroyed roughly a mechanized battalion” is an assumption that is accepted at face value. The Ukrainian army is using the “less capable” equipment of NATO, Poland, Germany and US. What does that tell you?
There are photos and video from several angles:
Messed up river bridging equipment.
Lots of blown up tanks, other armored vehicles, trucks, and other vehicles.
The blown up equipment is bunched up, not spread out as a precaution for an accurate artillery barrage.
A Russian Army Battalion Tactical Group nominally has 10 tanks, 30 infantry armored vehicles, plus some mortars, short range artillery and other support vehicles.
The photos show enough damaged equipment to roughly equate to a mechanized battalion.

I don’t know what the reality is, but video does support the narrative. My suspicion is that they had intelligence that allowed them to mass resources to oppose the river crossing. Destroy the bridge, and everything that has crossed can be destroyed afterward. Men can swim, tanks can’t.
In general, Ukraine only seems to have success in the small region north of Kharkov. Russia is having a lot of success in the middle region with the collapsing Ukrainian pocket. And the southern lines don’t move much anymore. Well, that is based on maps from pro-Ukrainian sources.
I was also non-plussed by the Russian crowing over victory in Lyman. The road maps showed Russia already blocked the road thru Lyman, but that Ukraine had road alternatives to supply the furthest end of the pocket. They weren’t bragging about roads though. They were bragging about a railroad hub, of which I didn’t find a map. But they are already talking about Russian progress in that city in the pocket. So maybe that railroad line was crucial to the defense, or maybe Ukraine changed its practice of ordering futile, no retreat, die to the last man defenses.

A California task force on reparations – the first of its kind in the nation – is set to release a report on Wednesday outlining several ways to address what it believes to be wrongs committed by the state against Black Americans.
The report calls for expanded voter registration, policies to hold police more accountable in cases of alleged brutality, and recommends the creation of a special office that would, in part, help Black Americans who descended from free or enslaved Black people in the country at the end of the 19th century document their eligibility for financial restitution.
The report, which runs 500 pages, will be the first government-commissioned study on harms against the African American community since the 1968…
