I was wondering why Politico would outline so clearly who was who in these shady dealings until I noted the date it was written: 1/11/17. haha It was an attempt to write what was already known about Ukraine’s attempts to undermine Trump in the best light possible. Why because they were afraid of Trump and what he might do about it.

As you can guess, the area is complex in its past ownership. After the Mongols, most of western Rus fell to Lithuania. Eventually Catherine the great took it into Russia. She also took Crimea. That was during the time America was very young, or even still a colony. Kiev was part of Russia even longer. Mid 1600’s or so.
And at times certain areas were mostly depopulated with massive immigration when stability was restored, so exactly who lives where is also complex.

Afederal judge on Thursday ruled that parts of Florida’s new voting restrictions unconstitutionally disenfranchised Black voters and banned the state from making certain voting changes without approval from the court for the next decade.
U.S. District Judge Mark Walker ruled that portions of the law restricting the use of ballot drop-boxes, assistance for voters, and third-party voter registration drives violated the Voting Rights Act and constitutional protections because they were passed “with the intent to discriminate against Black voters.”
Walker also ruled that the state must get court approval for the next 10 years before it enacts any other changes related to these rules. The ruling effectively put Florida back under pre-clearance requirements that were imposed on states with a history of discrimination under the Voting Rights Act before the Supreme Court in 2013 struck down the preclearance rules in its Shelby County v. Holder decision.
Sounds like an appeal to me. What a ruling!
