The bill, sponsored by House Speaker Russell “Rusty” Bower (R.-25th District), House Bill 2839, eliminates the ratio of the precinct committeemen from one for every 125 voters registered in a party to one precinct committeeman for every precinct regardless of the number of voters registered in a party

With all that I’ve learned from Sundance and all of you way too smart commenters, a thought, really a question, recently occurred to me. Could it be that IQ tests and other standardized tests like the SAT are engineered to test an inclination toward compliance or groupthink rather than intelligence? Obviously it’s much of what’s being taught in our schools, and I imagine organizations like ETS are on board with the master plan. It seems way too many book smart people are incapable of critical thinking these days. Thoughts?
I have concluded from personal observation that most people who are considered highly intelligent are actually simply very good at memorization and then spewing it back out. So, yes, I think you are correct that simply memorizing data and accepting it as true is what is defining IQ and thus group think. Creative thinkers are penalized by this testing. Let’s say you see more than one solution to a problem…wrong…there is only one solution which you must memorize and spit back out.
You are correct. I’ve been around many Ivy League grads, and they are fantastic at cracking the books, taking notes, and spitting back out what they have read and documented. But I would say a solid 98% of them are absolute fools. They have zero rationalization or logical skills. Street smarts are nowhere to be found.
I’ve had to help many of them with the simplest of tasks. They constantly get taken by online scams. One girl sold her laptop to someone overseas online, and she didn’t get payment or secure payment before shipping. Never got her money. One guy suspected his wife of cheating with another guy who’s name he knew but didn’t know personally, but he couldn’t figure out how to prove it. I tracked down the guy in question (in two days) and caught them both at a hotel dead to rights. Another guy always falls for get rich quick schemes. And on and on.
It’s absolute insanity. People get these stupid degrees and certificates and from that point forward they think they are geniuses. THAT ALONE tells me they lack common sense. I am highly educated and hold a prestigious certification and work title, but I’m the first one to say during a conversation about stuff I don’t know, “this is out of my wheel house I need more details so I can catch up.” While these other folks just spit out garbage they think they know and come off looking like idiots.
Then you have the people out there in the work force that don’t have certificates and think because they don’t that the people who do truly are smarter then them. I pleaded with a woman that worked for me to step in and take a new role making more money and more responsibility. She kept saying she didn’t have the degree or certificate like others that have held this role. I told her, those things matter much less than someone that has the actual experience and know how. I said “you are 100% qualified and would crush this role. Don’t let your own doubt be your undoing.” But she wouldn’t do it. She didn’t take the job because she thought it took some special knowledge provided by those degrees and certs that she didn’t have. Yet she was already doing all the work required, just not as a whole. There was literally nothing she didn’t already know. And part of that self doubt comes from the education system today. They helped crush this woman’s belief in herself. Very frustrating.
Oh, and of course, all of them vote democrat. And I’m 100% convinced the reason they do that is because they want to be viewed as intellects. That is the ONLY reason these people vote dem. They can’t defend the positions of the left in a conversation, they can’t list any successes of the left, and they can’t give any reason of why they are happy with what the current administration is doing. They vote that way because they think “educated” people vote left. They read the NY times, they go to the opera. All things I know that none of these dummies truly believe in or enjoy, yet the do it like good little sheep.

Weird thing about getting Ph.D.s, the real requirement is dogged perseverance. Some schools think they only let super smart people in, so the only hurdle is the actual Ph.D. defense. Some schools think they only get the dregs, and make their students ‘earn’ the right to work for theirs. The more hurdles to overcome, the lower your school is ranked.
Yeah, they do require an original thought for the thesis. But if you can only come up with one in 5-15 years, you really need to rethink your career. And avoid the tendency to volunteer as a slave worker.
I always thought of engineering grad school as transferring to a new university as a junior transfer student and then pledging a fraternity. Why would you want to put yourself though a year of being a lowly pledge when you could just spend your last two years of college living in some sort of decent private housing? Why would you want to subject yourself to more years of avoiding getting real-world experience as an engineer with a valuable undergrad degree where you could be making decent money and getting experience instead of teaching labs for some professor for peanuts?
I worked full time as an engineer while working on my master’s in parallel. It took longer but wasn’t really all that hard.
Main reason for staying in to get your master’s though is higher starting pay. When I got my Master’s I had to go to my company and tell them now that I had a master’s plus 5 years experience I really ought to be getting a lot more than the new hires with master’s that they were hiring in at higher salaries than me.
IQ is a measure of general intelligence, though an imperfect one. It is not intelligence itself.
Intelligence is often defined as the general capacity to reason, learn and understand complex ideas.
100 years of IQ research puts the sword to the idea that a high IQ simply measures the ability to memorize.
I could reference any number of books to refute this ludicrous idea, but I’ll just mention one:

I agree that the IQ tests might be an outlier and since they are ostensibly without an upper limit there are those that are so smart as to simply see through them. That is, in fact, creative thinking to be able to see through the machinations designed into the test and likely indicates the mind of someone prone to innovative thinking being that he or she was able to detect the larger design. SAT type tests do little to measure that kind of thinking. But then no test is required at all to determine the creative intelligence of certain self-taught musicians and problem solvers, and those people might score poorly on an IQ test ill -equipped to measure their type of creative genius. Or more simply stated: knowledge does not equal intelligence.

I basically agree with PInochet and the subsequent posters, but I think I would sum it up as saying that IQ tests and SATs are pretty good at predicting who will do well in college which is what they are really designed for.
What they don’t do, is separate between those who can solve problems and who can’t. I’m an electrical engineer and I’ve known electronics technicians who didn’t have education but grew up in a mechanics shop or on a farm that just knew how to fix and solve things and I would much much rather have them working with me on a problem than a lot of engineers.
You can get through engineering school knowing how to solve equations but not really understanding how to make things work or why they don’t. And grads from name brand schools are worse than from local unis.
And I completely agree that I have known a fair number of doctors and lawyers and they had a great work ethic and very good memories, but jeez they’d be useless at almost anything else, and frequently pretty useless at their own careers.
After many years of interviewing wannabe graduate students, evaluating transcripts and observing who does well (and who doesn’t), it is very clear that grades are good at predicting who will do well in courses. They are terrible at predicting who will do well in research. They really are completely different things.

I was just listening in on a live meeting at the other convoy and, while I’m lousy understanding some accents from certain regions of the country, it sounded like one of the leaders said they’re going to be heading to Hagerstown later today to camp with the People’s convoy there. This group is currently in Woodford, VA at the Dominion Raceway and started in the Spokane/Wenatchee area of WA.

No dog in in Ivermectin fight, I had Covid a number of times and did normal cold/flu treatment to good effect and am in the risk category due to age. It was good information and appreciated. Today at 1437 EST the US Army Base in Kentucky where I work fully lifted the Mask Mandate for the workers at the base.
They caution that changes in the Covid state of the area could reimpose it in the future, but for now, masks off if you wish.
I really did believe with the Army Brass we have now, we would wear them until January 2025.
My company, a defense contractor, on Tuesday reiterated the masking requirement indoors in Los Angeles stating that in the future unmasking would only be allowed for vaccinated individuals whether community transmission was high, medium or low. Also, stating that they follow the strict guidelines of cdc and calosha. Last Friday, this same company sent an email announcing the lifting of indoor masking for all employees regardless of vaccination status due to low community transmission. Funny thing is I expressed to my coworker on the Friday before that my prediction was for the mandate to be removed on Wednesday. I was off by two days 🙁 I really despise my companies leadership and wish to figure out some way to ensure the mandates will be gone forever.
