I was aboard, and remember the protestors as the nuclear powered USS Bainbridge pulled into Darwin in July 1978.
By the time we left, there were many hundreds of Aussies who were there to send us off…a tremendous celebration of kindred allies.

Crazy, the PETA freaks think way more of animals than the killing of babies….so sad. I tried to give a crazy husky that I rescued to a very nice family with a big house, yard and pool and the agency put me through more questioning probably than someone adopting a child or putting a baby up for adoption.

ACTUAL puppy mill rescues are different, but that scenario is often used as a catch-all backstory.)
if it’s a quality group, placement criteria often favors close care and observation during the initial phase of adoption to help ensure it will be a relatively smooth transition, and any surprises can be dealt with through training, acclimation, etc. i support that 100%.
however, having seen it happen to skilled, experienced owners looking to adopt another dog and being denied, i have to shake my head at some of the daft practices passing for “rescue”.
they seem to be getting a bit “woke”, and as PDJT says….🥴

In the church I attend, the whole congregation sings this every Sunday at the beginning of the communion service. We use the same musical setting, but usually sing a bit more briskly. However, I think the singing in this video is absolutely lovely.
Before we sing, the pastor says a prayer that includes these words: “… therefore with angels and archangels and all the company of heaven, we laud and magnify Your glorious name, evermore praising You and saying … ” And then we sing “Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth [hosts] … ,” and continue as in the video.
I don’t believe we have to do this to have a valid communion service. But it is a comfort for me to sing the Sanctus every Sunday, knowing that many of our ancestors in faith have done the same, going back over fifteen centuries.

Well one good thing happened in politics yesterday. Ted Cruz outed himself for even the blindest to see and ensured he won’t be the Republican nominee for President.
And I suspect he has no clue what he has done to those chances.

That’s typical of Cruz’s style. It doesn’t often appeal to the everyday American. Many of his Republican true conservative detractors have maintained that he’d be much better on the SCOTUS bench than in any political office. I tend to agree with that sentiment, especially in light of the unreliable cowards who Pres.Trump was railroaded into “nominating” during his term.
He’s constitutionally smart, no question. Not so politically. I agree he’s better suited for a job in the judiciary.

I have been following the development of this space telescope for years. Out of the several components that must be deployed for this thing to work as designed I have always thought the sun shield was the weakest link. This success is a big deal.

I own multiple copies of the early 1950s documentary, “Victory At Sea”. Episode 25, “Suicide For Glory”, the next to last episode, primarily deals with the Japanese turning to Kamikaze attacks to save what’s left of their empire.
There’s a short iconic scene of a Catholic chaplain praying over a dying sailor while the aircraft carrier Franklin is burning and munitions are exploding.
The Catholic priest, Father Joseph Timothy O’Callahan. won the Medal Of Honor for his actions on that day. He led teams of men into the fiery, wildly tilting innards of the Franklin to pass along red hot ammunition and throw it overboard before it could explode. He also used fire hoses to cool down hot bombs as they rolled around on the decks.
Here is a short video giving you an idea of the conflagration, explosions and just how dangerously the Franklin heeled over while this brave man of God fought for men’s lives, their Souls and his ship. Until last night I knew nothing of this man and wondered what was his story. Father O’Callahan appears at 1:59.

And some people still believe it was wrong to use the A-bombs! The Japanese had 5-9,000 Kamikazes ready to hit an invasion fleet. The policy decision had already been made to order the pilots to target the troop carriers and not the warships as they had done primarily before. The Kamikazes would have come from overland using the mountainous terrain of the Japanese islands to mask them from radar and would have been upon the troop ships. The warships with the heaviest anti-aircraft armament would have been to seaward.
If not for the proximity fuse the casualties and losses to the Kamikazes would have much worse. The proximity fuse is considered one of the top three technological developments of WW II.
Some people suggest to me that we could have demonstrated the A-Bomb to the Japanese before dropping it on Hiroshima. I always point out that when we demonstrated it by dropping it on Hiroshima, they didn’t surrender. We needed to drop a second one on Nagasaki.
There was a myriad of reasons why it was decided to not demonstrate it. One of them was that we were only producing one A-Bomb every 3 – 4 weeks and tens of thousands were dying every week.

I only post occasionally here, but today I’m calling for prayers. My daughter had an emergency C-section and delivered “uber preemie” twins. We lost the little boy last night. His sister is just hanging in there. Please pray that God’s will be done and that a great mantle of peace would settle on this little family.

Oh Della! My heart is breaking along with yours and his parents. And my tears accompany yours. I am so so sorry. God will certainly be with them in their sorrow and the Holy Spirit will envelop them as they grieve for this little one. I…we…certainly will pray for His healing grace for his sister.

This prayer from Ezra was about the sin specific to the people of his day, intermarriage, and that the Jews returning from the exile were repeating that failure. Intermarriage was the purposeful mixing of the people of God with the godless. In the modern context it would be the introduction of worldly things within the church that defile the purity of our communion with Christ.
Yes, our country has turned from God. However, more damaging is that our churches have invited godlessness. It was a bit at first, but it is increasing. We are intermarrying the church with the world.

Vibeman, I am so glad you posted this. Because it so well describes my thoughts, as I lift my eyes and my mind to see all the unspeakable evil that I know exists. And when I contemplate it in its many guises, I wonder how God, our forgiving and merciful God, not withdraw His presence from us. However He promises he will not abandon us. And I hold on to that.
I feel like the tax collector who would not lift his eyes to God. And yet I know Jesus died for my sins and the sins of others. I pray He may, according to His Divine Will, tap the shoulders of all who do not yet know Him and bring our country back to worshipping Him as is only right and proper. Without Him, we are nothing and reap the consequences thereof.
Thank you for this. We are at the crossroads I feel. And I beg His forgiveness for our abandonment of Him. May He be merciful.
Read Ezra 10. God brought them to repentance and they addressed their sinfulness. It started in the same way we will be healed of this problem:

There is no more appropriate prayer for times like these. Lately, the Pentagon has been forcing out all Christians, Patriotic Americans, and of course Trump supporters. During my time in the U.S. Navy, I remember specifically how anyone who has actually been in combat always seemed to have a much deeper respect for our freedoms that most of the desk-jockeys who take it for granted. My Uncle, who was a Cobra pilot in Vietnam, said it best: “You get shot at enough times and survive, it helps you get perspective.”

A good friend bought a hybrid. He says the gas mileage goes from 55 MPG to 45 MPG when it is cold outside. More gas, less battery for same result.
I actually think hybrids are a good idea. Complicated from an engineering level and expensive to implement, but if you don’t mind spending $10,000 up front to save $10,000 in the future, then get that hybrid. 150,000 miles, 30 MPG vs 50 MPG, gasoline $5/gal, do the math. Then there is the really expensive battery replacement at some point ~150K miles.
Hybrids and plug in electrics are the virtue signal of personal transportation. Used to be bicycles but that is hard work and wet when it rains plus always slow. Back in the 1980’s, we had a manager that insisted on getting to work by bicycle. Summer in Kentucky would lead to a sweaty manager walking in the door at 8 am. So he would get to work and take a shower. One morning, maintenance was being done on the men’s shower. He asked the people working there if he could use the women’s shower instead. Sure, they said. When TSHTF, he was called into the plant manager’s office to explain and said that the maintenance guy said he could do it. The plant manager said that he had the ability to put him in a job in which he would have to do what the plumber said, but for the moment he worked for someone else. It was the last time he rode the bike to work.

JMO, when you think of the coup plotters, you have to recognize that there are two levels of treasonous criminals.
