I’m so glad you brought this up. My son (few years back) brought a homework assignment to my attention that he realized may be issue (based on conversations we’d had about data mining). It was from an online program implemented at his middle school called noredink. It required students check off, in order of personal preference, people from the different categories listed. The categories included favorite presidents (of our most recent 8), philosophers ( like Karl Marx), authors, and much more of the like. It was clearly for profiling purposes. I researched noredink and discovered it was essentially founded by people from Alphabet Inc and FB. The school gave me a bit of hard time when I demanded my son not be required to use this program…basically telling me to ‘get used to this new way of learning’. They relented but my son was ostracized by teacher because of the extra work in giving him written assignments instead.

Covid First-hand Story
I visited a friend. Said friend had gotten 2 calls from a friend out East, 3 hours ahead. As we were chatting about 10 PM, his friend calls a third time, which makes it 1 AM in Maine where his friend lives.
“I got the jab and almost died” his friend blurted out.
His Maine friend is 69, about 200#s, in good health, and was against the jab. His wife got it, and wants to travel . So she convinced him to get it.
He went to the clinic w her, got the jab, and you’re supposed to wait there for 15 minutes.
Within 3 minutes he felt faint. At 4 minutes he recalled asking if he could lay on the floor. Then he was in and out of it.
They called an ambulance. At some point, he heard medical personnel say “we’re losing him”. They had him hooked up to multiple IVs.
He was in the hospital for 6 hours, and they let him go. When he asked what caused his near death, they replied “we don’t know”.
If he fainted after going home, he likely would have died. He was released from the ER because they were full.

Originally from Alabama and I can assure you that syphilis was not the reason for “whites only”. The shame is that it was simply racism – arrogant, intolerant, ignorant group think. Many who were racist never identified themselves as such. Not much self evaluation I guess. To be clear, not all Alabamians(or Southerners) were racist but most racist tended to be Democrats – like Wallace.
What I am saying is that perhaps the study fit right in WITH the racism – now the unspoken knowledge of the ongoing Tuskegee Institute/NIH Study buttressed that racism – if the Governors KNEW about Tuskegee and were so strident and adamant about lunch counters, drinking fountains, bathrooms and schools where their white children might come into contact with those who had contracted syphilis unknowingly as a result of the untreated participants in the study.
Did President Eisenhower possibly even know about it from his previous roles in World War II, about men from Tuskegee enlisting after Pearl Harbor and then being diagnosed by screening and were to be sent for treatment but the Study doctors stepped in and pulled them out of the entire process of being treated through the Army .
In the 1990’s, there was finally a “recognition” of what had been done at Tuskegee, with President Clinton and the White House, and there was a financial compensation but it seems to me paltry compared with the horrible suffering, not only of those men IN the study and their wives and children, but what about all the other unknown people who were affected.
I guess no one can really be sure of who knew what but we might have to assume that some people (like the ones you’ve mentioned) did not know everything in the same way President Trump couldn’t know the secret deliberations of inner circle at NIH.
My mother recalls how her elementary school (Montgomery, AL) was used as a “control group” for the polio vaccine. Her parents weren’t even aware until they received a letter after the fact. She told me most people back then lived under the misconception our government would never cause intentional harm.
The water fountain (and other) restrictions was more “wolf pack” mentality which I believe preceded the Tuskegee study.
