Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

“Next time you see it comin’ man you better run . . .” Magic, mythology, conjuring, hoodo . . . There’s a cold, hard deadly side to blues music and Johnny takes us on a brief stroll down that haunted highway. The popular mythology tells is that that the Highway 61 crossroads is haunted—a place best left alone at certain places in time. Think I’ll just listen to Johnny talk about it thank you very much.
The Highway 61 folklore grew out of this iconic Robert Johnson recording. Interestingly enough, he never mentions making a deal with the Devil. Still the legend persists, the story continuously repeated and the speculation given consideration . . . especially late at night. 🙂

Don’t know why I double posted this. Sorry ad rem.
Oh that’s excellent!
Sweet
A shameless plug. I’m not a heavy drinker. Never have been. Still, I’ve always enjoyed a good single malt Scotch (Laphroaig—expensive but worth the cost) but, also of late I’ve turned my interests to inexpensive but good, sour mash Bourbons. Tonight I’m listening to Delta blues and sipping a little Ezra Brooks sour mash Bourbon.
This is a surprisingly inexpensive whisky which puts the lie to the expectation that you have to pay a lot to get a good tasting—i.e., not harsh tasting— Bourbon whisky. So. Tonight I’m sippin’ some Ezra Brooks while listening to a little more of Robert Johnson’s blues. In a minute I’m going to go to bed, check that the pipes are all dripping—and sleep like a baby until morning. Good night Treepers! Sleep well!! 🙂
Oh goodness! I’ll drink to that. Delta blues are THE best. It cuts to the bone.
As they say in Germany “prosit”
I wish I could have a drink. Not going to happen until I know I am well enough that it won’t hurt me. I used to sit and sip on a sifter or two of Grand Marnier and listen to the music of my choice. Generally something classical or perhaps a great movie soundtrack or even some Pink Floyd. Just depended on the mood.
Music…soothes the soul! ?
🙂 The time will come again . . .
A little medicinal Knob Creek is the flavor as of late. Still have a bottle of Glenlivet in the pantry been there a decade or two. 🙂
What did Nancy Pelosi know and when did she know it? That is the big question.
Everyone knew Antifa, BLM and other radicals were going to infiltrate the peaceful rally and march days before the event. The President offered 10,000 National Guard troops. They were declined. Lots of questions. Two Capitol Police committed suicide in the days following the event. Why? The Capitol Police Chief resigned.

Sorry, jpeg didn’t show. Is pic of Gates, Fauci, Soros with caption: “The same people who say the world is overpopulated, say they can save your life with a vaccine”
Yes. The same people who have previously said they want to reduce world population by 80%, now claim they want to help everyone live longer healthier lives by injecting them with a secret concoction that saves us from covid.
Sure.
And I have a bridge to sell you at a discount right after you get jabbed.
My sentiments exactly.
What’s Hiding Under that Cloak?
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
“If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin” (John 15:22).
What on earth did the Lord mean here when He said that if He hadn’t come, the unbelieving Jews He had mentioned in the previous verse “had not sin”? Surely they had sinned, whether He had come or not!
To find out what He meant, we have to define a word that we don’t use very often, the word “cloke,” spelled cloak in our day and time. A cloak is a loose, sleeveless garment that is worn over other clothing, and about the only time that this writer hears the word even mentioned is when someone puts their coat in the cloakroom of a restaurant. If you can’t picture what a cloak would look like, but you can picture the mythical character Dracula, he is always depicted wearing a cloak.
Now the thing about a cloak is that you can easily conceal something under a loose, sleeveless garment, such as a dagger. This has given rise to the expression cloak and dagger, a figure of speech that refers to espionage. For this reason, when this word is used as a verb, to cloak something means to hide it. Star Trek fans will remember that Klingon and Romulan vessels were equipped with cloaking devices that made it so that you couldn’t see their ships coming. And no, I’m not a geek, I had to look that up!
All of this helps us understand what the Lord meant when He said that if He hadn’t come they would not have had sin. He didn’t say “they had not sin, then I came and now they have sin.” He rather said, “They had not sin, then I came and now they have no cloak for their sin.” In other words He was saying, “Now that I’ve come, they can’t hide their sin any more,” and I believe He had a specific sin in mind, an all-encompassing one that He mentions in the next verse.
“He that hateth Me hateth My Father also” (John 15:23).
The comprehensive sin that these unbelievers were cloaking so successfully before the Lord came was hatred of the Father. Since the Law commanded the Jews to love the Father (Deut. 6:5), it was a sin to hate Him, and for centuries unbelieving Jews had cloaked their hatred for God with their religion, which provided the perfect cover. Practicing Judaism made it appear that unsaved Jews loved the Father, but as the Lord said of them: “This people draweth nigh unto Me with their mouth, and honoureth Me with their lips; but their heart is far from me” (Matt. 15:8 cf. Isa. 29:13).
If you are wondering how the Lord’s coming uncloaked their hatred of the Father, remember that He represented God the Father in the flesh, and so when He showed up and they hated Him, it showed they hated the Father.
But notice in our text that it wasn’t just the Lord’s coming that uncloaked their sin. He said, “If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not sin” (v. 22). How did His words uncloak their hatred? Well, remember, His words were the Father’s words (John 3:34; 8:26; 12:49). So when the Lord spoke the words of the Father and they hated His words, they were actually hating the Father’s words!
If you are not convinced that this is what the Lord had in mind, consider what He went on to say:
“If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both Me and My Father” (John 15:24).
This sounds a lot like what He said in our text verse, but remember that there He said that His words uncloaked their hatred, while here He affirmed that His works uncloaked it, speaking of the miraculous works that He did among them. If you are wondering how His works uncloaked their hatred of the Father, remember He said that “the Father that dwelleth in Me, He doeth the works” (John 14:10). And so when the unbelievers in Israel ascribed His miraculous works to Beelzebub (Matt. 12:24), their hatred of His works were actually hatred for the Father’s works. That’s how the Lord’s words and works uncloaked their hatred of, as He says here, “both Me and My Father.”
All this reminds us of how if you are looking for a certain book on the internet, you will usually see advertising popup ads that say something like, “If you like this book, you might also like…,” and then go on to try to sell you some other books that are similar to the one for which you had been searching and found. Similarly, if you don’t like the Lord Jesus Christ, you don’t like God the Father. You might say that you do, as the adherents of many religions do, but you really don’t! Religions that claim to love God but reject His Son are nothing more than cloaks for hatred of the Father, and you have God’s Word on it!

Matthew 15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
Isaiah 29:13 Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:
John 3:34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
John 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.
John 15:24 If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.
John 14:10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works.
Matthew 12:24 But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, This fellow doth not cast out devils, but by Beelzebub the prince of the devils.
Good news. Actress Gina Carano, who just got fired from Disney Lucasfims for having some conservative views not approved by the company’s Leftwing and ChiCom stakeholders, was immediately picked up by The Daily Wire and contracted to produce and star in an upcoming film.

Ahem. Indeed you did.

Thanks, Menagerie.
Thank you for posting this beautiful love story!
Deal with it y’all. We say sir and we say ma’am, if you ain’t into that we don’t give a damn! Cute video.
On a serious note, my son returned from Delaware a few years ago telling me that people really did get offended at his manners, especially the use of yes ma’am. This is just incomprehensible to me. Why in the world would people be offended at good manners?
I have little grandchildren. We are all working on teaching them their please and thank you’s, sirs and ma’am’s. And it is not uncommon to hear a gentle reminder from almost anyone out in public when they forget. I do not want us to lose that part of our culture.
My sons are in their forties now. When I see poor manners on their part I cringe. And maybe smack them.
Thank you Ma’am.
(I missed the part by Miss Judy on smacking privileges.)
I’m sure she has a sequel about Mama’s smacking privileges! ?
Thank you, Menagerie. My personal pet peeve is when you say “thank you,” and the response is “no problem.” Huh?
That response is probably derived from the Spanish version “de nada” which means “of nothing.” In other words, it was nothing, it was not a problem.
The new response to “thank you” is “Of course.” I’m not sure what that one means though.
Exactly!
Yes Ma’am…”I live back in the woods you see, my woman and the kids and the dogs and me”.
Well, neither temp nor snowfall are living up the the hype so far here in central Indiana. Forecast 6-10 inches and we’ve only gotten 1″. Temp is 10 deg. F and should be more then 10 deg lower by now. Best I can tell from the radar the first wave is about done and there doesn’t appear to be much behind it.
I hope the worst of it missed you. We are going to have some temps around 20 degrees this week, and one day at least of heavy rain I think. So far we have dodged the really nasty weather, and I’m hoping for spring soon. Jonquils are coming up, and the buds give us hope. Fewer geese hanging out at the pond. We’ve seen a doe we thing is pregnant.
At the end of winter I forget the things I don’t like about spring like pollen and lots of rain and just enjoy the hope.
Don’t know yet. Supposed to be a second wave coming in a day or so,
The weather patterns have been the subject of the ongoing controversy about “global warming” and whether or not it’s caused by human activity. I’ve been on the side of the doubters, believing that our climate is largely influenced by the sun. Turns out I was only partially correct.
This is one of the more interesting and well-presented reports of real scientific discoveries about our planets climate variations. It’s one of an entire series (“Missing Links”) that is very well researched and presented about our human origins. And surprisingly, while it does not directly address religion, the narrative does NOT refute the Bible’s story of creation.
Here is a link to the episode about Earth and climate change…. it’s about 30 minutes long.
https://awakeandaware.ca/ice-cores-ice-age-temperature-changes-co2-changes-convergence-of-cycles-gregg-braden/
So I’m about 20 minutes in and got to the Kondratiev seasonal cycles part and that scene from the movie “Being There” came to mind:
Yeah I’m not entirely sure of that particular attempt to tie the relatively short economic cycles to the much larger astronomical cycles. Kondratieff actually made some sense but most references to it that I find don’t tie the pattern to solar and planetary earth cycles.
https://www.financialsense.com/contributors/geir-solem/the-kondratieff-cycle
But to be fair, that doesn’t necessarily negate or invalidate Braden’s theory.
Braden was doing fine, in fact he was doing quite well up until that point. Then he went all kitchen sink on it, which was totally unnecessary. Not an uncommon misstep, though. I still appreciate what he did.
Not gonna argue with you on that observation. In fact, both my wife and I remarked to each other that the entire point about Kondratieff’s cycle seemed out of place, even if only by scale…..
But I’m not dismissing the presentation because of one disparate point; the rest of Bradens presentation appeared well founded, my having studied space science in college validated the physics of planetary orbital and revolutionary motions and the Earth’s particular axial dynamics

The 50th Psalm Septuagint (51st Psalm KJV)
Great Lent in the Orthodox Christian Church begins four weeks from today. Each of the upcoming Sundays has a special title and meaning as the Faithful get ready for the Great Fast. This period is called the Triodion. Each of the five Sundays of Lent has a special title and meaning that all leads to the Lord’s Resurrection, Pascha, the authentic Great Reset.
(In the year 330, the Christian Bishops at the First Œcumenical Synod in Nicæa adopted the Paschalion and the Liturgical Calendar that, until just a few centuries ago, was used by all of Christendom.)
With the democrats controlling things I’ve decided to pull the trigger on something I have been thinking about doing for several years. As soon as I am physically cleared to go back to work and I am sure we’re reasonably cleared of the medical bills, I’m getting a whole house on demand generator. I figure we’ll have just under $7,000 in it for our 1,600 sq, ft, abode even with an electric water heater and submersible well pump running on 220V. There is a high pressure supply NG pipeline running underground across the street and so I don’t foresee any problem with having fuel. But if they get really stupid the unit can always be converted to run off propane.
Even those folks in Texas are being warned of possible blackouts due to the high electric demand with the extreme cold they are having. Winter storm could bring rotating power outages to North Texas through Tuesday – Watts Up With That?
BTW I’m putting in some excess capacity because of the 4 season glassed sunroom I will be adding on in the back.
I’ve always wanted a sunroom. Enjoy! In your climate I’m sure it will be wonderful in summer. I’ve known people down here who underestimate how hot the room will get and it becomes unusable because they did not plan for air conditioning in it.
it will have A/C and heat. Pocket doors opening into it from the living room. One side will have a built in bench with back that will have storage under the seats. Seat portion of the bench will be hinged in sections. Space below lined with galvanized sheet metal and then that is where I will store my firewood for the fireplace in the living room in he winter. Neighbor did upholstery all his life and has a shop set up in his barn. Already have the foam and cover material for the cushions for the bench. It will be built on a slab. Sliding glass doors leading outside onto a small covered patio where the grill goes. Opening to outside must be large enough to handle a gurney when the day comes that EMTs have to carry one of us out of here,
“Opening to outside must be large enough to handle a gurney when the day comes that EMTs have to carry one of us out of here,”
Now THAT’S long term planning…. ?
A few short years back, after I retired, I had the rear entry door on our house increased from 32” to 36”. When my wife questioned the reasons for the expense and temporary inconvenience of construction, I told her that it eases the passage of furniture, wheelchairs, and a gurney if ever necessary. She quickly recognized that it was a step toward our living here for as long as possible…..
Yep! Our other two outside doors are narrow and have inside walls in the way for maneuvering a gurney. And of course a larger door will also come in handy for large pieces of furniture.
The largest piece of a brown leather sectional in the living room was brought into the house via the hole when I was putting in a bay window in the dining room
That was my first thought when I read about the sunroom.
Since the sunroom will be on a slab the heat/AC ducting will come through what is now the outside wall of the house to base board registers and I’ll put the return in the ceiling. Not ideal, but the only way I have figure out to do it. Additionally there will be two ceiling fans, of the type that have heating elements for to provide extra heat in the winter so we can keep the place plenty warm no matter how cold it gets.
The location is at the NE corner of the house will block direct exposure to the sun for a good part of the day. .
I can fabricate the galvanized sheet metal pans for the under the bench storage of firewood. I grew up in the steel fabrication business and I can go to the family business MoFab Inc. / Steel Warehouse and Fabrication Cente / Anderson, Indiana and do it myself. BTW if you go to the site I ran the Cerline Ceramic Division for 15 years as a separate company after I got out of the Army, When I gave it up MoFab bought it and made it a Division.
I have had a whole house generator for 10 years. Haven’t needed it much, but we have, it worked great. We have a NG one
I’m here. East Texas.
Rolling blackouts.
Two generators.
Propane heaters.
Unprecedented for our area.
First EVER blizzard warning.
Interesting days ✝️
The rolling blackouts and lack of NG pressure some others are experiencing are criminal! Both are due to so called “renewables” that don’t work when you need them the most in cold weather. No excuses in a state with so much NG. Criminal!
You’ll like not be inconvenienced. We have one for the past 10 years or so now. It ends up running once or twice a summer after a bad storm, last year we were without power for 5 days in mid-July.
We have a Kohler 20K (propane), largest air cooled, after that you move into water cooled. It runs everything and I love it. We have it serviced annually by a local electric company. Our neighbor did a Generac last year.

Excuse the maybe dumb question, but I’ve been scrolling through posts on my iPad. If I scroll from the right, I’m accidentally hitting the flag to flag posts. I notice some are red and some are green. What does that mean? How do I un flag something?
I tried looking at the questions posts, but I can’t see anything there. Anyway, I don’t want to mistakenly flag posts. Help!
I have the same problem. There’s apparently not much we can do about it. The icon is hidden from view on the iPad display until you touch that corner of the rectangular space occupied by the post. Then, if you do accidentally hit the red flag, it turns to green, and that means the post has been “flagged”, but touching it again (while it’s colored green) does not undo the status. So the “switch” is not a “toggle “.
Maybe the Admins can inform us of the significance of “flagging” a post.

AM I MY BROTHER’S KEEPER?
“None of us liveth to himself.” Romans xiv. 7
Has it ever dawned on you that you are responsible for other souls spiritually before God? For instance, if I allow any private deflection from God in my life, everyone about me suffers. We “sit TOGETHER in heavenly places.” “Whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it.” When once you allow physical selfishness, mental slovenliness, moral obtuseness, spiritual density, everyone belonging to your crowd will suffer. “But,” you say, “who is sufficient for these things if you erect a standard like that?” “Our sufficiency is of God,” and of Him alone.
“Ye shall be My witnesses.” How many of us are willing to spend every ounce of nervous energy, of mental, moral and spiritual energy we have for Jesus Christ? That is the meaning of a WITNESS in God’s sense of the word. It takes time, be patient with yourself. God has left us on the earth – what for? To be saved and sanctified? No, to be at it for Him. Am I willing to be broken bread and poured out wine for Him? To be spoilt for this age, for this life, to be spoilt from every standpoint but one – saving as I can disciple men and women to the Lord Jesus Christ. My life as a worker is the way I say “thank you” to God for His unspeakable salvation. Remember it is quite possible for any one of us to be flung out as reprobate silver – “…lest that by any means when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.”

February 15th Devotional
Scenes Beyond the Grave – Marietta Davis
Chapter IX – Infants Received by the Savior
9:3
“Thou didst notice, that as He who blessed these little ones ascended, all the nurseries of this great city chanted as one, praise to God and the Lamb. This was spontaneous; for those who know the consequences of sin are the better prepared to behold in Jesus condescension and mercy infinite, and from their inmost being, to adore him. But when he moves in their midst, they utter songs silently, which, as he is withdrawing from them, assume outward expression. These happy beings, Marietta, could no more refrain from that full manifestation of joy and thanksgiving, than life could cease to flow from Him who is the Author of Life. Thus it is throughout all heaven, and more especially all abodes of preparation for spirits of the redeemed. Dost thou not realize that each breath of those beings around thee if but a separate volume of praise to God?”
“If men in the body knew the goodness of God redemption, they would cease from evil, and learn righteousness and the ways of peace. Marietta, understand thou this?”
I felt the reproof, knowing my former infidelity as to salvation through Jesus, and fain would have veiled my spirit from the scrutiny of that spirit who thus addressed me. I knew I had doubted the immortality of the soul, and man’s restoration from evil through the Lord Jesus Christ. And now I beheld that he is all and in all; the source of every pure and holy delight, and the theme of all I had been permitted to see in the world of spirits.
This, beloved Pastor, is the lesson which all the redeemed study with supreme delight, and which, when learned, inspires them with love too great for expression. And while I seek to describe it to you, I feel my own inability to express, in human language, the ecstatic fulness of that holy passion and the weakness of human language to declare the sense of that love.
To be continued…
Power is out here in The Woodlands, TX. Temp is 14deg, but I have a generator running. I hope my neighbors are okay.

Remember the MAINE!
This looks like something to keep an eye on; the second story I’ve seen about the Governor of Nevada’s proposal to allow a private company to create their own city without the burden of being under the legal jurisdictions of the state, county or local laws, i.e. they get to be a law unto themselves.
Something’s really off when a Governor says, sure, take a chunk of our State that hardly has any private or state lands of its own because over 80% of its land mass owned by the federal government and do your own thing. It’s like ceding part of one’s State to a foreign nation, like hey, China, here’s a chunk of Nevada!
And with the Democrats in control of all the branches of our State’s government, this could get pushed through without any say from the citizens just like they did with gutting and re-writing the election laws in a ‘special session’ where regular order is second fiddle.
This one is the county right next to Reno’s county; the earlier story was talking about doing a similar stunt outside of Las Vegas, in Henderson, to give google their own private country within a country.

p.s. With imagination some enterprising young practicing Muslim could set up their own sharia-compliant nation within our borders and there would be nothing the US or a State government could do to make those “citizens” comply with our Constitution or laws where it comes to actual human rights.
And we’re busy wondering how to save a political party or start a new one while Totalitaria is prodding, poking for ways to get the land.

The Meeting of our Lord and God and Savior Jesus Christ in the Temple
Forty days after His Nativity, Mary, the Mother of God (the Theotokos) and Saint Joseph the Betrothed took the Divine Child to the Temple as was the custom. There was the Meeting of the Lord with the Holy Elder Simeon and Righteous Anna the Prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel. (See the Holy Gospel of Luke, chapter 2.) After that was the Flight into Egypt.
February 2nd on the traditional Calendar of the Orthodox Christian Church and February 15th on the civil or commercial calendar.
I enjoyed this article:
https://orthochristian.com/137356.html
snip:
“This meeting between the Righteous Simeon and Anna and the Saviour is why this Feast has another, very common name: ‘The Meeting of the Lord‘. According to age-old tradition, Simeon was one of those Seventy translators who in the third century before Christ had translated the Scriptures of the Old Testament into Greek. Coming to the words in the seventh chapter of Isaiah the Prophet, he had been awestruck by the affirmation that a Virgin would give birth. He had been told by the Holy Spirit that he would live until he saw these words fulfilled. At today’s Feast which is the fulfillment of these words, the aged Simeon utters the words: ‘Now lettest Thou Thy servant depart in peace according to Thy words, for mine eyes have seen Thy salvation, which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people, a light to lighten the Gentiles and the glory of Thy people Israel’. Soon after uttering these words, he reposed, as did the Righteous Anna, who had also been waiting to see the fulfillment of the promise of the Holy Spirit that she too would see the Messiah in great old age. The Prayer of St Simeon is read at every Vespers service in the Church Year, but at Vespers yesterday, and again tonight, before tomorrow’s Feast of St Simeon and St Anna, it is sung.”

The website OTOH uses a comment section format that is awkward in structure (or rather lacks structure). Makes me appreciate CTH all the more.
Looking outside watching the blizzard whip my tattered and upside down American flag blow in the frigid wind, my country is under siege! Yesterday, I put on my ‘Patriot Armor’ to fortify myself to watch some jihadists propaganda news show called “Meet the Press”. I was holding my own and not yet screaming at the TV monitor after House impeachment manager Raskin concluded his love fest with Chuck Todd. I starting pacing the floor to cool my temper during the diatribe coming from Dick Durbin’s mouth…but this patriot, sorry to say, lost all nerve and retreated when Claire McCaskill started speaking. She is a true clone of HRC! … and I COULDN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE. I guess my patriot basic training did not equip me for this level of deceit; lies, propaganda, lack of rule of law. I shall remain in Valley Forge…ie [Polk Township] to endure what is left of this winter. Hopefully with the spring thaw, I could enlist to receive more training in order to prepare myself better for the upcoming war.
Letter to my family from the winter battle field of 2021 or…if this is a BAD DREAM…someone, PLEASE, WAKE ME UP!
Numerous articles online this morning indicate that Parler is back up and running today but other than the homepage, I cannot get the login to “take”. The site freezes every time I try. So I don’t think they’ve ironed out the bugs in the new platform.
Doesn’t matter. They’ll just deplatform them again.
Rah, I don’t think so. “They” (Big Tech) have been purposefully omitted from Parler’s new re-design.
ref.: https://en-volve.com/2021/02/15/breaking-parler-is-back/
So they have their own servers?
Not sure exactly who owns their new server farm, none of the few articles I scanned mentioned that level of detail. But their current CEO claims they are no longer vulnerable to the same fatal interference (deplatforming) by Big Tech as happened in January.
Well early this morning I wrote that the first wave of the cold front and winter storm warning had come through and we only got an inch and temp had not dropped much. Well the 2nd wave is here! Coming out of the west with flow out of the SW. Forecast now says we’re in for an additional 6-11″ and the radar sure is looking like we’re in for it! Wood for the fireplace is laid in. The FJ is full of gas plus I have 20 gallons in cans to fuel the car or my portable generator if I need it.
My portable generator is powerful enough and set up so I can roll it out of the garage onto the deck and run an extention cord into the house and run my NG furnace, some lights, TV and fridge and computer. It is not however powerful enough to run the 220V well pump or water heater without unplugging about everything else. and I have not set up the wiring of those items for hooking into the generator though if I had to I could. .
Wife talked to my niece that was living with us and has moved down to Killeen, TX to be with her soldier bow that has decided to re-up in the Army and she is going to marry and then go with him to S. Korea for 3 years. She says the post is closed and they have rolling power blackouts. They got ice and then an 4″ of snow on top of that. No TV and no internet.
If this storm drops even 6″ on top of the 4-5″ we already have on the ground we’re going to have more snow on the ground than we’ve had here in several years.
Many in Austin have been totally without power for 12 hours now. Grid engineering, management decision-making far below what is needed given current realities.
Ha! The state capital and run by leftists! What have they done with all the homeless the leftist enticed to “live” in Austin during this cold snap/winter storm?
You have to admit, there’s sort of a poetic justice to this.
So far in SW Missouri we have had it pretty good. It has snowed about 7 inches, but I have a 3 foot snow drift across my driveway. Our house is highest elevation in my subdivision so we get the brunt of the 25 mph winds. Our power company made the decision a few years ago to add the ability to inject propane into the NG lines so that it will mix somehow with the NG so less NG is needed.
I used this in a cabin I used to live in that lost power a few times a year due to falling trees. Portable, propane fired, hot water, shower. It’ll get hot enough to boil water so be careful. On this least expensive model the hand held shower stream is a bit weak if you pump from a 5 gallon bucket on the tub floor.
To improve water flow and velocity, I would put a few 2×4’s across the tub and put a 5 gallon bucket of water on top of the 2×4’s. Raising the water bucket that much increases the flow and velocity of water from the hand held shower head. Because I had a full size propane stove in the cabin (burners, broiler, oven), I would heat water on the stove to desired shower temperature, fill the 5 gallon bucket, place bucket on 2×4’s, and drop the waterproof pump into the bucket. Ahhh. Nice hot shower.

Screw that nut job! Any US base built or re-established anywhere in the world brings with it a better economy for the locals. A booming economy when being built or renovated and then a more stable economy than the average for the area in the long term. Locals employed using US tax dollars for positions on the base/post and good old dollars being spent by the troops on the local economy.
April 21st 1989. Special Forces Col Nick Rowe killed in ambush near Quzeon City. He was there advising the Filipinos on counter insurgency when they were having a problem with communists.
Col Rowe was a living Special Forces legend. Captured by the Viet Cong in Vietnam as an SF Captain he was held in jungle cages and tormented by periodic torture, both physical and mental for five years. He escaped. That story was told in his book Five Years to Freedom – Audiobook, by James N. Rowe | Chirp (chirpbooks.com)
From that point on he was a target for communists all over the world. He remained in the Army and SF. He set up SERE Level 3 (now called level C) course. I was a trainee/guinea pig in the 2nd developmental course before the course was formalized. It is the highest level of Survival Escape Resistance to interrogation in the US military and believe me it is tough. They WILL break you! Period!
During Phase 1 of the SFQC (Special Forces Qualification Course) when I was going through we trainees were doing a timed individual rucksack “march”, really a run. When one did these things they didn’t know how far they were going or what the maximum time allowed was. So it was go go go to the limit.
Standing around waiting our turns to take off then Lt. Col. Rowe showed up. He was asked what he thought of the training we were receiving. He answer was it was pretty good but if he had his way each man would be shot in the thigh with a 22 short round just before starting and still have to make the time! I think the guy meant it!
The wood and tar paper shacks we had in a wired in enclosure at what was then Camp MacKall are gone. Replaced by a more modern structure and the place renamed Camp Rowe. And the SFQC course format has changed since then. But when I went through that initial phase of Special Forces training 201 went in and 99 came out to advance to the next phase. The attrition would continue through all three phases. For us medics it would end up being about 90% before graduation.
BTW the culling didn’t end with the course. I was one of four newly qualified SF medics to report to 10th SFG(A) at Ft. Devens, MA. In less than a year there were only two of us left.
Texas frozen wind power – outages ensue, electricity now at unheard of $9000 per megawatt-hourTexas frozen wind power – outages ensue, electricity now at unheard of $9000 per megawatt-hour – Watts Up With That?
In addition to that some citizens in certain areas are suffering from low NG pressure in the pipelines. This is because NG is used to heat the internal workings of wind turbines in cold weather and so many of those turbines are idle with iced up blades. Insanity!
When I was a consulting geologist back the the 70’s-80’s, my first night in North Dakota it was -25℉ with a 50 mph wind (-80℉). The drill string froze up solid while we were drilling. That is almost unheard of.
i guess they must heat the heads for operations up in Alaska?
It was the very early 80’s booger. There was an Alaska express that swooped down on the northern states and it was 80below in our area for three days.
Alcohol Freezes, Rubber Tires disintegrate and steel railroad tracks shatter like glass….Amazing things happen when it gets that cold…
My sister lived in British Columbia, Canada. It very often get down to -30*. She said it doesn’t stay down too long, but one time it lasted for a long time, days or weeks. The door handle on her car broke off in her husband’s hand. It can be very dangerous. 80 below sounds totally scary. 😯
I remember that winter of 1983. I was attending Iowa State University….It got down to – 100 degrees below with the windchill. It set records!! The school closed everything. It was cold!!!!
Highly recommend this post on Covid terrorism.

Really coming down here now. Fine powder blowing temp dropping. Looking like as with so many other times, the forecast was right but they were off on the timing.
Rolling blackouts expanding due to cold. Five states in the SW and now warning that they will be implemented in West Kentucky and SW Missouri.
More rolling blackouts pending. Most of Missouri and now Eastern Kansas included.
You can add Nebraska to the ‘rolling blackouts pending’ list. We’re being told that we may have hour long ‘blackouts’ – for the next several days. Our high today was SEVEN BELOW ZERO and we are expecting THIRTY BELOW tonight! We don’t get above freezing until MAYBE on Sunday.
Hubby just got one of the kerosene heaters out and tested it, it still works. So I guess if we end up with no power, we can stay warm … until the kero runs out, anyway. Kicking myself for not buying a couple more gallons back in the fall…

R.E.M. – Everybody Hurts
HOW TO HANDLE OUR ADVERSITY
Listen, do you wanta know a secret 🙂
https://www.intouch.org/listen/featured/how-to-handle-our-adversity-part-1
When trouble strikes, how do you respond? Do you run? Hide? Blame somebody else? Dr. Stanley teaches if you can trust God – especially in the midst of trials, you will see another side to adversity. Sometimes the setback helps deepen your faith in the Father; other times it redirects you to the Lord’s will for your life. Learn how to activate your faith in this insightful message.
Now 14 states, or portions there of, are having rolling blackouts, or it has been announced there will be such. Thank you unreliable “green energy” and those that have taken reliable fossil fueled or nuclear off line.
A little birdie tells me that the Bitem regime just might have a change of heart on that Keystone XL pipeline after this. Could be the silver lining, you never know.
I wouldn’t bet on that! They don’t give a hoot about the welfare of us serfs and peasants. With the disaster on going in Texas have you heard of word about any FEMA action down there or even preparations to go down to help? The Governor first declared and emergency and then a disaster and Biden approved a disaster declaration but I have yet to hear about the Feds doing one damned thing!
There’s more than serfs and peasants at stake here.
In the words of President Donald J. Trump:
“We’ll see what happens”
It’s “Dusty Room” time… great story, very inspirational…
“Mom Refused to Abort Boy Born With Only 2 Percent of His Brain–Now He Can Play Music”

Now eight years on, far from their gloomy expectations, their child Noah Wall is a curious, capable boy with grand ambitions. His incredible brain, having formed only 2 percent of its capacity at birth, amazingly grew to 80 percent by the time Noah was 3.
[…]
Noah is happily home-schooled by his parents. He plays the piano, mouth organ, ukulele, and even the drums. “He likes the noise,” Shelly explained. “We tried to encourage him from day one to use both his hands, because if he’s using both his hands, he’s using both sides of the brain.”
lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
Amen…
Thank you. 🙂
Sorry Mom….it’s always dinner time at Casa Puddy, and I sometimes get busy and forget to check.
Amen.
Amen
Amen.
It’s warmer in N.Maine (12 above) than it is in Dallas (9 above). Crazy!

Well I would say that old Joe Bastardi nailed this one, He forecast what is happening now nearly three weeks before the fact. Said it would happen around Valentines day. All that before any of the weather models had any clue.
Here is an e-mail I sent out on January 17th to my compadres based on Joe’s forecast:
“So far we in Indiana have had a pretty mild winter. That is going to change. Europe has been getting slammed, setting all kinds of snow fall records and the stratospheric warming over the Artic which is causing that is shifting in position so that we here in the northern half of the US are almost certainly going to see an exceptionally snowy and stormy February.”
Here is a message I posted here and also e-mailed on Feb. 8th.
Those of you that are experiencing and snow and cold like me in central Indiana and points west and east north east of me from the central US across to the NE are just getting a very weak preview of what’s to come. There are going be multiple waves of this and some will have much more snow and much lower temps.
Sometime around Valentines day the European model is projecting temperatures of around -20 degrees F for the Chicago area, Lots of very low temps and snow across the states bordering the great lakes and tremendous amounts of snow running in a line from about Pittsburg, PA up into Maine, including the NYC area. In fact is it not unlikely that NYC will set a new winter record for snowfall. My man, Joe Bastardi, believes these projections to be correct.
So pleased don’t shoot the messenger and get ready for snowmageddon and coldmageddon at the same time. If you have a wet wall along an outside wall it may be wise to let your faucet trickle and leave the cabinet doors under the sink open so they get warm air. And and don’t wait to the last minute to make your store runs to sock up. And please leave some toilet paper for me when you make your store runs.
