Be Ye Reconciled to God

“Why does Paul beseech the Corinthians to be reconciled to God (2 Cor. 5:20) if they were already justified ‘saints’ (1 Cor. 1:2; 6:11)?”
 
“…be ye reconciled to God” (2 Cor. 5:20).
 
In this verse, Paul is not telling the Corinthians to be reconciled to God, he is telling them what to tell unbelievers.
 
If we back up to verse 18, we see Paul tell the believers in Corinth that God “hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation.” He then goes on to define the ministry of reconciliation when he begins the very next verse with the words “to wit.” Those words mean “namely” or “that is to say.” So Paul is telling believers what to say to unsaved people when they go forth with the ministry of reconciliation. We might paraphrase him to say:
 
“God has given us the ministry of reconciliation, so go out and tell the lost, ‘God was in Christ as He hung on the cross, imputing your trespasses to Him and not to you. He then committed this message of reconciliation to us believers, and now we are His ambassadors. If He were here, He’d be begging you to be reconciled to Him, but He’s not, we’re here in His stead.’”
 
The Corinthians were already righteous (1 Cor. 1:30), so we know Paul was telling them to tell unsaved people that they “might” be made righteous (2 Cor. 5:20) by believing the gospel.

A little primer. I wrote this a couple years ago and just found it while reviewing some past posts at the paratrooper site I post on. Thought some of you might find time to read it

The first day of battle at Gettysburg (July 1st, 1863) was over. By most measures, (Numbers engaged, casualties, etc.) the first day of battle considered alone would rank as the 23rd largest battle of whole civil war. That days battle had began at sun up and didn’t end until the light failed at sun down. 
Lee had not wanted battle on this day. He had not wanted to engage to Union forces that he thought may be streaming northward (He wasn’t sure until after the this battle confirmed it) until his own scattered Corp. were concentrated and he had a better feel for the disposition of the enemy. But the natural aggressiveness of his commanders, and in particular that of Henry Heth brought on the battle he had wanted to delay and once engaged Lee could not bring himself to disengage, much to the consternation of his best Corp commander, James Longstreet. And so during this first days battle at Gettysburg approximately 22,000 Union troops were engaged by approximately 27,000 CSA troops. 
During that first day of battle what probably was the bloodiest regimental duel of the whole war occurred when 26th North Carolina tried for hours to unseat the 24th Michigan from their position in Herbst woods. On that day, Pender’s Division of A.P. Hill’s Corp., conducted a charge across open ground against the Union positions on Seminary ridge with every bit as much bravery as Pickett’s Div. would on the third day, and with a great deal more success. On this day the last ditch stand of the 16th Maine regiment on Oak hill where it faced off against three Confederate Regiments was every bit as heroic as that of the more famous 20th Maine’s stand on the southern face of Little round top would be the next day.
 On this day a stubborn 70 year old civilian that was a veteran of the war of 1812, (carrying his flintlock, powder horn, and ball some say) marched towards the sound of the guns despite the protestations of his wife, to help the Union troops. He did this as much younger male citizens of the town streamed down the roads leading out of town to get away from the fight. Old John Burns, had been a joke in Gettysburg, an old codger getting little respect, but his actions on this day, picking up a more modern Enfield rife and standing in the firing line with the 150th Pennsylvania and then the 7th Wisconsin made him a national hero in the Union. He was the only Gettysburg Civilian to join in the fray. He was lightly wounded twice but made it back to his home when the Union line on Seminary ridge collapsed and the Iron brigade retreated. And the Confederates that occupied the town failed to realize that he had fought against them so they left him alone. When president Lincoln came to dedicate the cemetery and give his now famous speech, he asked specifically to meet the old warrior and went to church services with him.

By 2:00 PM, July, 2nd on what would become the 2nd day of battle Gen. Lee, bolstered by the first days success had already decided on an attack in echelon was prepared to throw nearly his whole available force of Infantry against the established Federal positions. Lee’s plan was to stage his attacks starting at the south end of the field and then the attacks would progress to the north. His strategy was that if the assaults on the Federal left in the south failed they would at least force Meade to pull reinforcements from the northern portion of his line to send to bolster the southern end of his line there by weakening the Federal positions on Cemetery and Culps hill so that they could be taken by assault later in the day when those positions were attacked.
By this time Lee’s Army forces faced most of all of the seven Corp. of the Army of the Potomac with all of it’s artillery and significant Calvary in support. Lee was still without Jeb Stuart’s Calvary that he had always relied on for his information about enemy dispositions so he did not yet know all he faced. What he did know, and relied upon, was the knowledge that never before had Union Corps marched at an average rate of advance greater than 12 miles per day. What he didn’t know was that this time, for the first time, the rate of advance for the Army of the Potomac’s move northward was nearly double what it had ever been and so contrary to his expectations nearly the whole Union Army minus one Corp. had concentrated and he could not pick off a unit at a time.
The attack on the 2nd day would start on the southern end of the field around 4:30 PM and progress all the way to the Northern end of the field where it continued into the night. Longstreet was chosen to lead off the attack but didn’t like it one bit.  Many wrongfully claim he was the reason it was so late before the attack began but no one can claims he did not prosecute the attack to it’s full extent once it began.
Shortly before the Confederates got into position for their attack on the 2nd day a political Union General, Dan Sickles, ignoring his orders, advanced the Union III Corp he commanded from it’s position on what was at that time the left of the Union line to what he believed to be better ground along the Emmitsburg Road. When he did this he found he had to refuse his left flank and left his right flank unconnected and unsupported by the Union 2nd Corp to his right, causing a salient to form at a little Peach Orchard. When Longstreet’s Corp attacked the Union III Corp, though fighting bravely, would be decimated and eventually overrun despite piecemeal reinforcements from a Division of the 2nd Corp. Sickles would be taken from the field with a leg shattered by a Confederate cannon ball that would require amputation.
To this day the argument about the propriety Sickles action goes on, sometimes heatedly, on Internet and at civil war round table discussions. Longstreet and some other Confederate commanders thought Sickles action saved the Union forces. Most of Sickles peers, and certainly his commander, Gen. Meade, thought it was foolish and sacrificed the III Corp for no good reason. Daniel Sickles spent much of the rest of his life writing under the pseudonym E. Pluribus, defending his decision to advance his III Corp to the Emmitsburg road. Once a year he would visit his preserved amputated limb the bones of which are still on display.

On this 2nd day of battle in a small field that we now know as the Wheat Field some of the fiercest close in fighting of the war would occur. It became known as “the whirlpool” of death. When the battle was over more than one account said that a person could walk across the field in any direction without their feet touching the ground because of the number of bodies that lay there. More Americans would die on or very near that field of less than 8 acres during the approximate two hours of battle for it, than were killed during the first twenty-four hours of the Normandy D-day invasion of WW II.

By the end of the 2nd day the Federal lines had held.  Longstreets attack of the 2nd day was really the height of the battle at Gettysburg and the day when the issue was decided though neither side recognized it at the time (and some still don’t). Longstreet said that it was the best fighting he had ever seen his troops make. And yet the Union forces still held the high ground and were still stronger than Lees Army. And during this day the last of the Corp of the Army of the Potomac arrived so now Mead’s Army had been reinforced and could draw on supplies and reinforcements from their land while Lee could get no more help even if Richmond would have had any to send. 

So the Union line held and controlled the high ground from Big Round top in the South through Cemetery ridge to Cemetery hill and to Culps hill at the end of the barb of a fish hook shaped line in the North and despite their best efforts the Confederacy had not broken that line anywhere nor managed to turn it. 

And though the fights at the Peach Orchard, the Wheat Field, Devils Den, and for little round top would become the most famous engagements of this days battle, the fights in the center along Cemetery ridge, and for Cemetery Hill, and Culps hill would be every bit as fierce. There was actually more ordinance expended at Cemetery and Culps hills on the northern end of the Federal line this day than at those more famous places on the southern end of the battlefield. 

I will leave it to the reader to remember or learn about the 3rd days battle, with the greatest artillery dual in the history of the Americas, Pickett’s charge, the Copse of Trees marking the High water mark, Confederate Gen. Armisted’s charge against the defenses of his life long friend, Gen. Hanncok with both wounded, Armisted mortally.  The battle of the third day, though one of the most recognized in American history was in the tactical sense a tragically simple affair. I sometimes think of Pickett’s Charge as the Confederacy’s temper tantrum and have a hard time believing sometimes that Robert E. Lee, a commander with such demonstrated ability and competence could have ordered it.

But Lee did conceive, plan, and order it, at great cost to the Confederacy. Maybe even the great and humble Lee read some of his own press too much. Maybe he really was that he was ill. (Lee’s heart condition was acting up and some accounts claim he was suffering the “soldiers disease” which was diarrhea resulting from contaminated water or perhaps too much rich food or too much fruit taken from the bounty of Pennsylvania) Maybe the impetuous over confidence of so many around him effected his judgment. But it really remains a mystery as to why that great General ordered that attack. A mystery that will never be answered because I think the real reason went to the grave with Lee. They call the 3rd day of the Battle of Gettysburg the turning point of the war.  Well it was but it is not really marked by the “high water mark”. The turning point came when Lee decided to send 15,000 men across a mile of open field in full view of an Army much superior to his in the number of men and especially in it’s artillery and having an advantageous position that it had already defended successfully. 

Though we know that the battle was finally and fully decided on July 3rd it was not until July 4th that everyone knew it was over. The last great invasion of the North by the bulk of the Army of Northern Virginia had ended and Lee started his retreat back to Virginia. The wagon trail of Lee’s defeated army during it’s trip back towards the Potomac was 15 miles long. Half of the wagons were filled with moaning wounded. 1’000s of Lee’s men were too  severely wounded to stand the trip and they were left to the mercy of the Union. That wagon train of sorrow and pain and the moans of pain was the Confederacy’s own “trail of tears”.   

On that very same day, as Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia limped away from Gettysburg,  the western Union Armies under U.S. Grant had finally prevailed at Vicksburg, Mississippi, where the besieged Confederate defenders surrendered ending the last major obstacle to Union control of the mighty Mississippi River. 

The Union blockade was nearly complete and the chances of any foreign power to enter the war on the side of the Confederacy to help end it were gone. The South had lost the war militarily and it’s only chance now was that Lincoln would be replaced by a president what wanted peace at any price come the elections of 1864. Because that WAS the issue of that election. 

 Lincoln would win reelection despite the horribly long death lists being posted in Northern cities and towns as a result of the terrible battles at the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, and Cold Harbor. Lincoln won because for the first time soldiers in the field were allowed to vote and they, those doing the suffering and dying, wanted to see the war through. And because Gen. W.T. Sherman. who had taken over the command of the Western Union Armies from Grant when that General was elevated to over all command of all Union Armies, was making the south pay in his taking of Atlanta and subsequent march to the sea.

And to think, one prominent editorialist wrote shortly before the first major battle of the war at 1st Manasas that the issue of succession would be “settled without the blood that would fill a thimble.”

President Trump’s attorney, Lin Wood, called Mike Pence a traitor many days before Pence proved it, and Lin said that he deserves “execution”.
Strong words – but Pence’s violation of the Constitution on January 6th is hard evidence of treachery – and this doesn’t look like a random act. It seems like a plot.

The sound is good, the visual is a little dark but I woke up feeling sorry for all of us deplorables. Our government woke up afraid of us. I think they forgot we exist and they govern at our consent. That is what happens when you realize you stole a landslide election and the people know it.

I saw a reference in a thread yesterday from someone who was glad for “now being able to follow replies to my comments”……I still haven’t been able to figure out how to do that.

I find it frustrating to even follow the pages for comments….but that’s probably just me having problems with multi-tasking. It’s hard to figure out what comment page I am on at any given time. I guess the page that automatically opens with the post is the last page of comments posted? And then if I want to see other pages, I use “previous” to keep getting a new page?

It’s all good, but I’m having a lot of confusion on my learning curve.

Is CTH going to start posting from parler? There is a @TheLastRefuge2 account there that I’ve been unable to discern if it is really Sundance. Maybe I missed a comment about it.
I’ve deleted my twitter account and was wondering if CTH was going to do the same? I only used twitter to follow a few people, and Sundance–and now those people have been purged! What is your thoughts on twitter usage? No matter, I’ll not miss twitter. It usually just adds to my information overload–and duplication of news to sift through. One Ring To Rule Them All – My wife thinks I am nuts – maybe so – but, could this happen? Big Tech is now, seriously, the “Ministry Of Truth”.
Remember, it took 10 to 15 years of Bloody Kansas type conflict which were the penultimate tectonic violent shifts prior to the coda that was Lincoln’s “Civil War”. It is 2021 and 200,000 people just showed up at the whim and caprice of a popular politician who has tapped into the frustration and anger of 75,000,000 people. That’s no joke, it is serious business. I think 3 to 5 years tops to conflict if this isn’t settled equitably.
First will come, population shifts as political, social, ideological, economic and safety issues drive families and citizens towards safe harbors and away from totalitarian rule. D 卐 M ☭ CRATs in charge now, will overplay their hand and think the continuation of insults, marginalization, Social Opprobrium and a one sided enforcement of the so called “RULE OF LAW” will win the day. Big Tech will further frustrate citizens as the censorship of free thought continues unabated. This will force people suffering under arbitrary and capricious laws enacted by ideologues to flee their states for a free life. It has happened literally millions of times in Human History, it will happen again. The “Identity Politics” that has so consumed, dominated and brain washed the masses will now enforce, consciously and unconsciously, as if the entirety of the American population entered into “Gen Pop” in a Federal Prison, the lines of demarcation, which will be defined by race. Those foolish enough to remain in territory not designated safe by way of race, will find out, that indeed, the devil will kill them first. The exodus from large population centers to rural areas is already accelerating at a rate which terrifies those officials in the most corrupt city on the planet, Washington D.C. this very day. THIS IS KEY – WATCH THE MOVEMENT OF POPULATION TO PREDICT THE COMING CONFLICT.
Federal and local law enforcement agencies will panic at some point and subsequently “knee jerk” into place, futile, draconian measures in order to stamp out resistance to the New American Imperium. Those measures will divide local law enforcement and destroy it, while weakening Federal Law Enforcement. The choke hold on information by Big Tech, will no longer be in place, having incited millions to find other venues (Not just the internet) to communicate their anger and hatred of the National Power Center in the most corrupt city on the planet, Washington D.C. Manufacturing of ammunition, ordnance and distribution will be suspended, too late. Attempts to “buy back” arms and ammunition on a door to door basis, will be met with gunfire, resulting in the predictable casualties and the predictable resentment and escalation of hatred for the Federal Government. Martyrs will be created, heroes enshrined and “The Cause” will become holy. Poems, songs and stories of the slain will be sung, recited while tears flow and swears of retribution in the name of various gods are made in blood.
The U.S. Military will be, as it was in the 1850’s split down the middle and the acquisition of ordnance, will, at some point be settled with blood.
Foreign aid and foreign territories are gone, China makes predictable big moves. The economy craters.
Millions of Hispanics, return south of the border, seeking a safer life.

Leaders will arise on both sides of the issue, heroes, orators and a new breed of politician/general for one reason or another and armies will form behind them.
There is no turning back at this point.
As people formerly part of “The Rainbow” coalition (Of all colors) see more and more atrocities committed against their race on the periphery of safe territory, a hardening of resolve and attitudes will make 30 years of “Identity Politics” seem like the good old days. It will be “Identity Politics” on steroids and those folks who think they can talk their way out of a bullet with a “I marched with Martin”, or, “My best friend is black” excuse, will be executed. The “Racial” aspects of this conflict, CAN NOT BE OVERSTATED. It will be horrible and no quarter will be given. The Race War the D 卐 M ☭ CRATs , Nation Of Islam, Black Panthers and BLM et al have been calling for, will be here.
Militias will form on both coasts and in the middle of the country and conflict will be frequent, ferocious and necessary as food supplies dwindle and distribution of consumer goods grinds to a halt.
Millions will die and millions will starve. Disease will come straight out of the blood soaked earth and kill millions more.
Now you would think, that even if politicians thought that Americans who think the election was stolen are crazy, they would also know, that perception in the case of 75,000,000 people, should be treated as reality, at least, while the concerns of the aggrieved were addressed. An exploration and investigation into the claims of those 75,000,000 people would be in order.
THEY CAN’T DO THAT, IF, THE ELECTION WAS ACTUALLY STOLEN, CAN THEY?

Good Morning CTH

Thank you all for being here. Please accept my sincere apologies for comments that were more harsh than intended. The stress was definitely having it’s way with some of us and I was no exception. I’m always amazed with people who digest and report extremely difficult news and remain objective and considerate, a skill I wish to improve.

We all have burdens, some years heavier than others. This has been a heavy year for us. Some days I feel like falling down on my knees and crying, but I don’t because I have little ones who depend on me and a husband who needs a happy hearted wife more than ever. My husband fought for this country, Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom (USMC-Retired). then because of disabilities went back to school (no easy task in your 40’s) to retrain in another field for 5 years, only to become unemployed because his industry is practically shut down due to Covid, and has been for a year.

We have exhausted all our savings, filed for bankruptcy and may lose our home. I have gone to bed hungry more than once pretending I wasn’t feeling hungry so my family would have more.

I felt like all hope was lost on Wednesday. We are weary of giving so much and not seeing results. We don’t want anything fancy, a good home, good schools, freedom of religion, and a predictable economy. It is so maddening watching our supposed representative who’s suit cost more than months of groceries in my home behave so miserably. I can’t unsee Nancy Pelosi showing off all her ice cream when my family was hungry. I don’t want to break. Some days are harder than others. I know with prayer and time I will feel better.

No matter what happens,

We will NEVER stop defending this country. WE ARE MAGA!

Yesterday evening, all six of the elders of Trinity Bible Chapel were charged under Section 10.1 of the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA) for holding church services on Sunday, December 27. We are peaceful family men seeking to pastorally care for our families and our church in sincere obedience to God. We are not criminals. Officers from the Waterloo Region Police Service (WRPS) showed up at each of our homes last night at roughly 8pm and gave us each a summons to court. Although we know of officers within the WRPS who personally disagree with these charges, it appears the WRPS is trying to make an example of us. For years we have taught our children to respect police, and now our children and grandchildren are witness to their fathers and grandfathers receiving charges from police for worshipping Christ with our church. It is a dark day for Waterloo Region and Ontario.

Some comments on current “conservatism”.  

A few years ago, there used to be a guy who had a YouTube channel called “Barry Soetero”, in which he frequently lampooned Obama, as well as commenting on other things. Eventually he got de-platformed (one of the first conservative-leaning channels to be struck) migrated elesewhere (I think BitChute) and then I lost track of him.

But I’ll never forget one of the things he said. It was something to the effect of “Why do you folks keep losing? Stop it. WIN! Just WIN.”

That made an impact on me and it still does. Because when I look out over the conservasphere, that’s what I see. Loserville. (with a few rare exceptions, this site being one of those exceptions) Outrage and fear porn. “Boo-hoo-hoo, look what they’re doing to us”. Victimhood.  Constant compromise with the enemy. And it seems to me that it has been this way for decades, pretty much since the aftermath of World War 2. (For this reason I wonder a lot about World War 2. My ex sometimes says we lost, and lost badly. So I asked him who won, and his reply was “The Soviets”. OUCH! Given recent events, he may have a point)

Language expresses concepts and I call to your attention the many elected officials over the years who pledge “I’ll never stop fighting”. Think about that for a minute. It’s always “fighting”, never about winning. What good is fighting if you don’t win? But that seems to be the message of institutional conservatism. Fight and surrender (or compromise).

Trump was the first in a long time who spoke about winning. Maybe he didn’t deliver, maybe he “lost” sometimes, but at least he spoke about winning, and not so much about fighting.  

Now, let me give you a stellar example of someone who won: Sundance, with his brilliant move to take control of his destiny on the internet.  There was no “fighting”. What there was, was strategy and a LOT of hard work and resources expended in a very short amount of time. And he won. Bigly. Because here we are.  I hope some time he will codify the conceptual process that he went through to get from point A all the way through to the win. I don’t mean all the details of dealing with technology, etc. I mean a template that can be applied to any activity when one is faced with a loss. I think it starts with knowing what you want to accomplish and then mapping out a way to get there.  

Stop fighting. Don’t be a victim. Start winning.
