The Spirit Of Truth

“Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13).
How blessed to know that the Author of the blessed Book which has changed so many hearts and lives and homes is “the Spirit of truth.”
The Spirit did not, of course, reveal all truth at one time. “The Law was given by Moses;” later the prophesies were penned by men of God as they were “moved by the Holy Spirit” and still later our Lord uttered truth “kept secret since the world began.”
But even our blessed Lord, while on earth, did not lead His followers into all the truth which God would have His people know. “I have yet many things to say unto you,” He said, “but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth” (John 16: 12,13).
But when the Spirit came at Pentecost, did He immediately lead the disciples into all truth? Not yet. They still proclaimed the prophetic program, the message which our Lord had taught them and committed to them (Luke 24: 45; Acts 1:2,3).
It was not until some time later that the glorified Lord revealed “God’s purpose and grace” to and through the Apostle Paul, and the Spirit in turn caused others to understand it (Gal.2:2,7,9; Eph.3:1-5; IITim.1:9).
The glorious message revealed to Paul is the capstone of divine revelation, thus he says that it was given to him to “fulfil [complete] the Word of God” (Col.1:25).
St. Paul wrote more books of the Bible than any other writer and in them we have the fulness of divine truth as God would now have us know and understand it!

Who were some of those that understood it? Ephesians 3:4-6 speaks of “the mystery of Christ, which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as now it has been revealed in the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets, that the Gentiles are joint-heirs, and a joint-body, and joint-partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus, through the gospel”.
Note that supposed differences related to “the mystery of Christ” are not spoken of as exclusive to Paul at the time but to others to whom of which Peter and the other apostles certainly qualified. Moreover, it is made abundantly clear in Acts 10, Acts 11, and Acts 15 that what the latter preached — including the cross (cf. Acts 10:39 — to Gentiles was sufficient as a gospel message unto salvation to them. The Spirit in turn caused understanding as far as the Gentiles being joint-heirs etc. (Acts 10:44-48, Acts 11:12-19). This was further emphasized by Peter before Paul and others at the Jerusalem Council:
“And much discussion having taken place, Peter having risen up, said to them, “Men, brothers, you know that from the early days God chose among you for the Gentiles to hear by my mouth the word of the gospel, and to believe. And the heart-knowing God bore witness to them, having given them the Holy Spirit, as also to us. And He made no distinction between both us and them, having purified their hearts by the faith. Now therefore, why are you testing God, to put upon the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe ourselves to be saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same manner as they also are” (Acts 15:7-11).
This recording by Laurendo Almeida tells us something about how to record a solo guitar. Judging from the overall quality of the sound, the recording was made in a studio with first a first-class mic and an equally good high speed recording machine. But what I like about the recording is how the recording communicates the classical guitars natural sound. If we were sitting in the room with Larendo, this is what we’d hear. This piece by the way is from his Broadway Solo Guitar album which appeared as an LP in the late 60’s and later as a CD. I think it’s still available.
While looking through versions of “Ive Grown Accustomed To Her Face” I came across this great version by James Taylor. Interestingly, some of the commentators complained that they couldn’t relate to this “old” music. Well . . . I sure can. Maybe it’s because it’s its now November and getting a bit colder but this version by James Taylor just seems perfectly suited to be curl-up-by-the-fire late night music.

Dem mayor of New Orleans has been pounding the podium warning the Great Herd of Mouth-Breathers at her feet that if they do not start wearing masks they WILL be fined up to $500! Since then the local stations running live news shots while talking about her edict have heavily been doing so sited in downtown and French Quarter areas with crowds of tourists and locals noticeably wandering around in the background – mostly not wearing masks.
News has stopped running stories on the short-term rental units and areas in the innercity that have been ignoring the ‘no gatherings’ order that’s been in-place and largely ignored since the beginning, best way to calm the public is to just not tell them what’s really going on…sorta like innercity crime since the start of the COVID mess.

On one of the many threads of November 5, someone posted a video of Christian prophecy. It was a Christian intuitive counseling us to have faith.
Not a “believer”, but on the other hand combining intuition WITH logic can be an excellent combination. And I needed a lift, so — the lady on the video recommended to find a particular hymn, as something that would lift us up. She quoted a few of the lyrics — “great in counsel, mighty in deed” “nothing is too great for you, nothing is too difficult for you.
I went and looked it up, the words are from Jeremiah. And there is a song, “Ah Lord God” which has quite a few versions, and the lyrics that she quoted. Here’s a simple version with the lyrics:

I found this out as a voter aid in the CA Santa Clara County primary where they used sharpies:

A woman from AZ was on Laura Ingraham with her neighbors behind her. She said poll workers refused to give them a regular pen and told them a sharpie was ok to use. However, Democrat voters were given regular pens. It said on their website as well as the ballot to NOT use a sharpie. When they went online to check their vote, it said it had not been received. I’m sure the poll workers were given a list of ways to keep Republican ballots from being counted.

Reading the complete Psalms every month…
Morning Psalm reading: 29, 30, and 31 (LXX numbering); 30, 31, and 32 (Masoretic numbering)
Evening Psalm reading: 32 and 33 (LXX numbering); 33 and 34 (Masoretic numbering)
mandy: I read 5 a day, too. To help me do that, I start with Psalm 1 on the 1st day of each month and then just add 30 to that number and jump through by 30s. That takes me through the entire month and is super easy to remember where I’m at any given time. And to make it even simpler, I numbered each Psalm with its appropriate # sequentially so I can just look at that number and not even have to add them up in my head.
On the 1st day of every month, I read: Psalm 1, 31, 61, 91, 121 and Proverbs 1
On the 2nd day of every month, I read: Psalm 2, 32, 62, 92, 122 and Proverbs 2
Etc.
I’ve even added Ecclesiastes to this pattern and just read it twice a month, etc. and sometimes I’ll add the Gospels and read a chapter per date.
This method works especially good for me, because even if I don’t have my usual marked Bible, I can pick up any Bible and apply that numeration method and keep in sync with my reading.
And what really amazed me reading the Psalms in this order is that often the Psalms within that day’s sequence say the same thing even though they are 30 Psalms apart from each other.
Now I just have to remember what day of the month it is. : )
One other thing I really recommend is listening to an audio bible at night while you’re sleeping. Your subconscious soaks up all of God’s word and you can actually go through the entire New Testament every 3 nights depending on how long you normally sleep. Another plus, you learn the proper pronunciation of all the names.

To All Who Loved or Cared for my Dear, Beloved Wife, Irene Stone Bresnahan,
It is with unimaginable grief that I must notify you of the passing of the love of my life, Irene Stone Bresnahan, on Sunday, December 2nd.
Irene had so many people who loved and cared for her, that trying to reach all of you in a timely manner would have been impossible, hence this form of contact.
As a wife and partner, I couldn’t have prayed for anyone better. She was good at SO many things, but most importantly, in filling the gaps of my abilities. She kept the Battleship Bresnahan afloat, all while bailing out the Skipper.
As an Aunt, she rarely lit up any brighter, than when in the company of young children. She lovingly reminisced about holding her brother’s child until she went to sleep. She could barely wait to return to Denver.
As the “Rum Cake Lady”, she made friends she hadn’t even met, let alone know. I still remember her smile, as I would tell her that I had heard from a grateful recipient of her baked goods. It was/is a tradition started by my late Mumm, who passed along the recipe to Irene, recognizing her as someone up to the task of faithfully, and lovingly laboring in the kitchen for weeks to bring a smile to the faces of so many. (The absence of the heavenly aroma of her rum cakes this season, is especially acute)
As the “Venison Chili Lady”, she would delight in the pictures I would send to her from various break rooms, with EVERYONE crowded around the containers she filled with care. Irene took great pleasure in making others happy.
As an avid “coupon person”, Irene worked so hard to accumulate closets full of goods, only to invite a disadvantaged person from her church, or our neighborhood, or our industry, to “go shopping” in our home! While she may not have been the most “visible” Christian, she walked the talk far closer than any other human being I have ever met. Irene and her friends fasted and prayed incessantly for the cure of my throat cancer. I write this letter cancer free. Irene saved my life. I wish I had a chance to return the kindness or trade my life for hers.
So, as it is clear, Irene was a very giving soul, who derived much enjoyment from service to others. And I know how many, many people who are much the better for knowing her. She joked about how “95% of her (Facebook) friends are really friends of mine”. While I am sure there is a much smaller percentage than that, I can confidently say that 100% of my friends loved her, they told me so! Anytime I would meet a coworker or friend, before asking how I was, they would say “How’s Miss Irene?”
She touched a lot of people, and even though I can’t imagine life without her, I’m grateful to God for loaning her to me for as long as he did.
‘ I miss your beautiful smile so much already my Pet, and I don’t expect that to ever stop.’

What a beautiful testament to a life well lived. Sounds like she was pretty close to being a Proverbs 31 kind of woman. I’ll be turning 57 next birthday…we could have been classmates…my dearest friends are those that walked the halls with me in high school as we discovered who we were and what we believed. Martha believed in the power at the disposal of Jesus Christ, she believed that if He had been present He could have healed her brother; she also believed that Jesus had a peculiar intimacy with God and that whatever He asked of God, God would do; but she needed a closer personal intimacy with Jesus. Martha’s programme of belief had its fulfillment in the future; Jesus led her on until her belief became a personal possession, and then slowly emerged into a particular inheritance – “Yea, Lord, I believe that Thou art the Christ…”
Is there something like that in the Lord’s dealings with you? Is Jesus educating you into a personal intimacy with Himself? Let Him press home His question to you – “Believest thou THIS?” What is your ordeal of doubt? Have you come, like Martha, to some overwhelming passage in your circumstances where your programme of belief is about to emerge into a personal belief? This can never be until a personal need arises out of a personal problem.
To believe is to commit. In the programme of mental belief I commit myself, and abandon all that is not related to that commitment. In personal belief I commit myself morally to this way of confidence and refuse to compromise with any other; and in particular belief I commit myself spiritually to Jesus Christ, and determine in that thing to be dominated by the Lord alone.
When I stand face to face with Jesus Christ and He says to me – “Believest thou this?” I find that faith is as natural as breathing, and I am staggered that I was so stupid as not to trust Him before.

I just attempted to make a contribution to Trump’s legal defense fund. I did it on the campaign’s official site. I used my credit card. In my initial attempt, while I was still on the site, the card was declined. I re-entered my data and the card was accepted. The transaction went through. I got a receipt. I have excellent credit. There is no problem with my card. A few minutes later I got a call from my credit card company saying that they had rejected my two transaction attempts to protect me from fraud. I told them I want the charge to go through. They said i’ll have to contact the merchant to accomplish that.

Scripture is given for our instruction in spiritual matters. This scripture is directing you what guidance to trust and gives clues on how to discern. (Among an infinitive amount of other instruction)
‘From above’ is the only ‘good’ that is offered all else is not. There are other voices that can come to you but only ‘from above’ comes ‘good and perfect’. You must compare or check them with the Bible, if they do not agree then they are not worthy.
‘Whom there is no change or shifting of shadows.’ Another clue what to Seek. No change, as God is, from his word or from his urging. ‘Shifting or shadows’ meaning lack of illumination, shadows are not, shifting you see in instability. Our Lord is comfort and stability, as his word.
Correspondences from Our Lord are from above, like rays of sunshine from our sun (which is the exact correspondence) giving life, all come down from him, ‘good and perfect’ the shadows are the places we avoid, the shifting or change. It would be lacking in truth, in light, warmth which is love.
The word or Jesus, is first because it is 1) Gods word, spoken it is his power, it was first. 2) it is unchanging, we can count always on it and it’s truth, and answers. 3) it is truth to discern all things.
Wisdom is knowledge and experience. Gods word is knowledge, our use of it brings experience on how to wield that sword. It takes time to be proficient. Understanding what that word is and for is why Gods word says ‘seek it with all your heart for it Is more precious than silver or gold.’
It brings eternal life to those that find it.

Sorry folks, but I can’t hide behind my faith. It isn’t strong enough. I believe God gave us our Country for a very big reason, that people all over the world have an example of how to govern their affairs so that everyone has a chance to exercise the free will He gave us. Maybe our loss of that example will be highly instructive for everyone else. We are in for some very dark times in any case.
