The Hope of Eternal Life

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began” (Titus 1:2).

Dr. Tony Evans says (*) this about eternity: “If we were to empty the Pacific Ocean, the largest body of water in the world, we’d be left with a hole that’s beyond imagination. If we were then to fill that hole with sand and make a pile as high as Mount Everest, we’d be talking about a lot of sand because Mount Everest is the tallest mountain peak in the world. Since the ocean is fairly deep and Mount Everest is fairly high, we’d have a fairly sizable sandpile! Now, if we had a bird that would take one grain of sand from that sandpile every 100 billion years, how long would it take the bird to finish the sandpile? I don’t know that in human language we have such a number. It is probably beyond numerical count. Whatever that number is, when the bird finishes the last grain of sand, you will have been in eternity your first second.” 1

It is glorious to think of spending eternity with Christ in heaven, but it’s also heartbreaking to think of those who will be in the lake of fire forever. Our faith rests on the sure hope of eternal life. We can live our lives for Christ confidently and courageously, knowing that nothing we do for the Lord is ever in vain (1 Cor. 15:58). We have certainty in what we believe. The “hope” Scripture holds out is not a hope-so hope. Our hope is a complete certainty, a confident expectation. It is a destiny.

Eternal life is both a present possession and a future hope. It doesn’t just begin when you die; we have it at conversion, the moment we trust Christ as our Savior. God is “eternal” (Deut. 33:27), and having “eternal” life means we have been given God’s life, which is Christ in us (Col. 1:27; 3:4). Our future hope of eternal life is in the sense that we confidently look forward to eternal life in its final, victorious form when we’ll be in our eternal home in heaven, having received our eternal, incorruptible, glorified bodies (2 Cor. 5:1), dwelling in Christ’s presence forever (1 Thes. 4:17).

All the truth of the Bible and the hope of eternal life is based in God Himself. Our faith is secure by virtue of God’s unchanging character and the fact that He cannot lie. God is Truth and free from all deceit (Deut. 32:4). Numbers 23:19 says, “God is not a man, that He should lie.” Hebrews 6:18 tells us it is “impossible for God to lie.” God’s character backs up our absolute hope of eternal life. If He said it, it’s true, He cannot lie, and it will happen.

From eternity past, “before the world began,” God promised what He was going to do for those who believed (2 Tim. 1:9; Titus 1:2). God is a promise-keeping God. What He has said, He will do. You can place your soul’s eternal destiny in His hands, and you don’t need to be anxious about it. We can rest in Him because we can count on Him and on His character. When (not if) we find ourselves in heaven one day, we’ll praise Him saying, “The Lord was faithful, faithful to me, faithful to all His promises.”

Preach Hope in Christ

Why don’t men have faith?

It is easy to blame the hearer. “They don’t understand.” “They are ignorant.” “They are sinners.” “They are selfish.” “They are blind.”

But these statements could all just as easily describe believers.

Men do not have faith because Christ is not their hope.

Hope is the good expected to come from something or someone. If people think nothing good will come they are hopeless.

Hopelessness can be summed up by the question, “what good will come of it?”

To identify the hope of a person, ask: “Where do you expect the most good to come in the future?”, or “How do you expect the problems of the world to be solved?”

Do you now see the problem? Faith is the substance of things hoped for. Men don’t have faith in Christ, because their hope is not in Christ.

This is why Christianity is often found among the poor, unpopular, and desparate of men. The world has given them no hope. Christ does.

Hope that will not make ashamed is found in the Lord (Rom 5:5; Rom 8:18; Col 1:27).

It is harder to think about giving someone faith – you can’t – but you can give someone hope. The word of God engenders faith, because the word of God provides hope to a dying world that needs it.

Preach hope in Christ from the Bible rightly divided. When men find hope in Christ, they will have faith.

“…be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven…” – Col 1:23

Hope Through Suffering

Hope allows people to suffer pain for a greater reward; endure trials in order to achieve a greater goal; and willingly sacrifice for something they cherish. Yet, for some people there is nothing greater than their suffering.

This is where the scriptures are needful. It is through the patience and comfort of the scriptures that we can have hope (Rom 15:4). The Bible plainly describes the greatest evils of this world and the great suffering that has resulted from it, but it also provides a greater hope.

With the revelation of the mystery of Christ, the Lord gave the greatest source of comfort to those that suffer: an eternal hope of glory.

“To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:” – Col 1:27

Through the sufferings of this world we can now hope upon the glory of God! This glory is greater than anything you can suffer on this earth:

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” – Romans 8:18

Hope by Faith

The only way to reckon the greatest sufferings of this world unworthy is through the eyes of faith which come by hearing the word of God (Rom 10:17). If we walk by sight we will not see much hope. We must trust by faith that God is able to do what he promised:

“Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present us with you.” – 2 Cor 4:14

“For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;” – 2 Cor 4:17

We can only glory in tribulations knowing what we do by faith. Our faith encourages us to patiently endure (Rom 12:12) . The endurance then produces a knowledgeable experience about the suffering. Through Paul’s experience he made this statement about suffering:

“…for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.” – Phil 4:11

This experience then finally works your hope of glory, without which your suffering would be vain.

“…we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope:” – Romans 5:3-4

Suffering is Real

Suffering is not to be ignored. Neither is it something we should resign ourselves unto. There is a treatment for suffering called hope and it comes by faith in the word of God rightly divided.

It is only by faith in what the scripture says that we can have sufficient hope to endure the greatest sufferings of this life. There are some very real sufferings in this world from which you cannot be saved except by God’s hope of glory in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:24-25).

The sufferings may not go away until our promotion to glory, but we will always have this hope:

“For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith.” – Gal 5:5

Suffering is real. So is hope.

A Better Hope than Healing

Christians have abandoned their most powerful source of comfort and hope for the sick and dying: hope in the Lord.

More and more the popular Christian response to the sick and dying is to pray for healing. They say, “God has done it before, why not now?”

(This is a dispensational question, and can only be answered adequately by a dispensationalist. When someone is sick and dying it may not be the right time for a dispensational Bible study. They need hope.)

Hope in the Lord has been replaced with hope in healing.

While there are claims of healing miracles, which for the purpose of this article we will not dispute, the truth remains that the majority of people that need a healing fail to get one.

For divine healing to be a source of reasonable comfort and hope, it must work more than rarely, sometimes, or even half the time; it must be certain all the time. Without this sort of certainty, healing turns into a divine lottery where you can submit your request, but there is a high chance it will not be answered.

Hope in healing destroys faith in God when it fails to happen. Disillusionment with God and the Bible quickly follows if hope is not in the Lord.

What hope is there in healing?! If our hope in Christ is only for this life then…

“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” – 1 Corinthians 15:19

A Certain Hope

There is a better hope than healing.

For a true and certain God-given hope, Christians should turn to the apostle of hope. Paul speaks more about hope than any other writer in the Bible.

Hope in healing is misplaced. The hope Paul speaks about is in the Lord Jesus Christ who through his grace gives an everlasting hope.

Hope of eternal life (Titus 1:2).
Hope of resurrection (1 Thess 4:13).
Hope of glory (Rom 8:18).
Hope of a redeemed body (Rom 8:23-24).
Hope of a short and light affliction (2 Cor 4:17-18).
Hope of salvation (1 Thess 5:8).
Hope of consolation (2 Cor 1:7).
Hope of the Lord’s return (Titus 2:13).

Every hope here is certain for the believer who trusts the gospel of Christ, and has hope in the Lord. All we must do is wait for it.

“But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.” – Romans 8:25

Our certain and patience producing hope is in heaven, not in healing (Col 1:5; Phil 3:20-21).

Give Hope to the Hurting

People who pray for a healing are looking for hope. Hope that God will provide help. He has. It is not in a temporal healing. He has provided something far better.

Next time someone sincerely asks for your help to pray for healing, recommend a good doctor, visit them, and give them hope in the Lord Jesus Christ.

God is faithful to do what he says.

God said he has provided grace, and that grace is sufficient for strength, consolation, and hope. Be a grace ambassador. Give hope to the sick and dying through the power of God’s grace.

“Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace, Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.” – 2 Thess 2:16-17

Most fun I’ve ever had was one Saturday night that my neighbors (a good Cajun couple from Lafayette, LA) took my wife and I plus another couple to Cameroon, LA. We approached this building on stilts in the middle of nowhere. We walked up a long staircase into a huge room, lit by a single 40 watt light bulb. The room went silent. I said to my wife:”Oh s**t, get behind me”. I’d been in plenty of places like this as a Marine and there was only one way out. Well, our Cajun neighbors said something and we were suddenly as welcome as family. The food, the music, the fun didn’t stop until 4 AM. Hated to leave; but that was one Saturday night to remember.

The future inhabitants of hell lick their wounds and drown there sorrows, their arrows having fallen short. Their suffering here will be short but Satan has no love for human souls only a lust for their punishment.

God give those stricken with evil the courage to confess so they may repent and find forgiveness and redemption. You have promised restoration to perfection for even the worst of sinners. I confess this is a selfish prayer, I pray this for my family and for my country. The alternative is a blood soaked earth and the wailing of those left behind. I fear without your turning of hearts the future.is lost.

Without Hope

Hope has been called faith in the future tense. The optimists of the world are always trying to engender hope. Evolution teaches we are on an a steady incline of progress. Economists tell us that we live in a world of unprecedented economic success. Family researchers say our children will be the most advantaged children in history!

However, evolution can not resolve the death problem.

“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:…” – Heb 9:27

Though we have the highest technology we end up using it only on our death bed.

“For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.” – 1 Tim 6:7

For most of us worldly success is not in reach and the lure of prosperity fades quickly away. At the very end of our lives everyone sounds like Job:

“My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, and are spent without hope.” – Job 7:6

What hope can we give our children if we know they will in the end spend their lives without hope like everyone else?

False Hope Ignores Death

All too often the hope of the world is only a mask for the hopelessness that awaits us all in death. Yet, it is in death that hope is truly needed!

The world is still searching for a hope that lasts. It has not found it.

Even some Christians look for hope in science, success, or children, but Paul pulls back the curtain on this temporary hope:

“If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.” – 1 Cor 15:19

The Bible says the cause of hopelessness is a rejection of the gospel of Christ. Despite God’s provision of hope in the gospel the world remains in an hopeless condition:

“…without Christ,… having no hope, and without God in the world:” – Eph 2:12

True Hope Defeats Death

God gives us the hope of eternal life; death is defeated (Titus 1:2).

Jesus provided the means to receive it (Titus 3:7).

A sinless Jesus purchased forgiveness before God with his blood and conquered death in his resurrection. What was once a world without hope in death is filled with hope for those who place their faith in the free gift purchased by the cross of Christ.

The promise of God is sure that we shall see future glory in Christ (Rom 8:18). The hope of the Bible is not limited by death. Instead, it is useful all the way to our death bed and there it applies its greatest strength.

Death has been conquered and we too will resurrect to eternal life if we are in Christ. When it has lost its sting, death can only bring us closer to the glory of Christ than ever before (Phil 1:21)!

The world offers no comfort for the hopeless. Jesus provides hope and comfort to the dead and dying! Your sins can be forgiven! You can have eternal life! You can glory in God!

THE BENT OF REGENERATION

“When it pleased God…to reveal His Son in me.” Gal. i. 15, 16

If Jesus Christ is to regenerate me, what is the problem He is up against? I have a heredity I had no say in; I am not holy, nor likely to be; and if all Jesus Christ can do is to tell me I must be holy, His teaching plants despair. But if Jesus Christ is a Regenerator, One Who can put into me His own heredity of holiness, then I begin to see what He is driving at when He says that I have to be holy. Redemption means that Jesus Christ can put into any man the hereditary disposition that was in Himself, and all the standards He gives are based on that disposition: HIS TEACHING IS FOR THE LIFE HE PUTS IN. The moral transaction on my part is agreement with God’s verdict on sin in the Cross of Jesus Christ.

The New Testament teaching about regeneration is that when a man is struck by a sense of need, God will put the Holy Spirit into his spirit, and his personal spirit will energized by the Spirit of the Son of God, “until Christ be formed in you.” The moral miracle of Redemption is that God can put into me a new disposition whereby I can live a totally new life. When I reach the frontier of need and know my limitations, Jesus says – “Blessed are you.” But I have to get there. God cannot put into me, a responsible moral being, the disposition that was in Jesus Christ unless I am conscious I need it.

Just as the disposition of sin entered into the human race by one man, so the Holy Spirit entered the human race by another Man; and Redemption means that I can be delivered from the heredity of sin and through Jesus Christ can receive an unsullied heredity, viz., the Holy Spirit.

Yesterday I picked up a bucket of what they call Turtle popcorn. Milk chocolate drizzled caramel corn with caramelized pecans. The stuff is deadly good. The kind of thing you’ll find yourself eating too much of very quickly if your not paying attention.

Although I had problems yesterday with different browsers, I was able to read most of the day and sometimes like/reply.

As of early this morning the National Hurricane center had DELTA as a CAT II, it’s now a CAT IV. Look out folks on the Gulf coast, this one has the potential to become a real monster. Still a long way away but it’s coming and there doesn’t seem to be much in the way to weaken it much except a little section of cooler water. But when storms get this big it takes a lot of cold water and more time to weaken them. The NHS has been behind on this one from the time it was a tropical wave.

Once again Word Press will not let post EVEN THOUGH this am it seemed the problem had been fixed!!!!! Getting really frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(For the record, last time hubby looked at the statistics – gays attempt suicide 4 – 5 times more often than straight people. Half of them are repeat suicide attempters. Transgenders who have NOT had the surgery attempt suicide 8 times as often as straight people. Trans who HAVE had the surgery attempt suicide 40 times the rate of straight people. Hubby found the data through google scholar and the CDC. It’s not studied often because the elite filth DOES NOT WANT THIS INFO KNOWN. It goes against what they want for the world, their VILE AND EVIL AGENDA, damned demons that they are.)

It’s ungrounded paranoia, but…

We’re seeing more and more ‘official’ warnings/worries about the dangers of flu in the upcoming season and how that flu could interact with the COVID. This is interesting as the 2019-2020 flu season was projected to be a bad one yet the COVID pandemic seems to have blunted the flu season, bringing it way down from what was projected.

Much of this is attributed to COVID protective measures (social distancing, venue shutdowns, hand washing/disinfection, etc) but it seems that the medical Cassandras are now discounting that effect this coming season. What do they know that we aren’t hearing or are they just creating wind to justify their positions?

The COVID is the 2nd SARS animal-based virus to attack us out of China, as do some virulent varieties of the flu (2009, H1N1 swine flu). Each one seems to be a bit more virulent than its predecessor and cause more damages. Are we going to see a more virulent strain of flu, another SARS or some other animal-derived virus soon, are the medical intel types trying to tell us something? How long before another SARS clone or stronger flu (another Asian animal-based virus) hits us with even worse effects than the COVID (labeled SARS-2, remember) hits?

Let’s see if my unbridled paranoia holds and, in the next few years, the Chinese have another deadly zoonotic virus that accidentally escapes to the US.

Yikes, Eddie Van Halen passed away today. While I wasn’t a fan of the bands lifestyle, they did bring fun back into music. Amazing guitarist, though in a way his style ruined the guitar by producing so many epigones. True of many great artists I suppose.
