(NYT) – Russell Brand, the popular conspiracy-minded YouTuber who first found fame as a comedy and acting star, was found guilty in a London court on Thursday of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
He was found not guilty of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault.
The jury, at Southwark Crown Court in London, took about eight and a half hours to reach its unanimous decisions, which concerned episodes that prosecutors said involved six women and occurred between 1999 and 2009, a period when Mr. Brand was becoming a public figure.
The judge, Joel Bennathan, said he would sentence Mr. Brand, 51, to “significant custodial time” on Monday and denied him bail. Under British sentencing guidelines for rape, the maximum sentence is life imprisonment, although a more typical prison term is four to 19 years. (read more)

Brand is a smart guy. His accent and way with words make him pleasant to listen to. I believe his shift toward Conservative reasoning is sincere and that he’s not just pandering to a crowd for the money. And I hope and pray his conversion or return to Christianity is sincere. He’s going to need a strong faith to handle prison.
That said, he was a wild man. Years of drug use, sex, and “rock and roll” lifestyle. He has conveniently used his drug and alcohol abuse as an excuse to not “remembering” what he may or may not have done and has used the familiar “I thought it was consensual” line.
I feel sorry for him because it looks like he did turn over a new leaf but let’s not sugar-coat that he DID in fact rape and abuse women. It’s no different or less of a crime when White guys or people we like commit inexcusable crimes. I got drunk plenty of times when I was younger but I never lost complete control of my senses or harmed others. Let’s see if he takes the high road and uses this to teach young men to act morally responsible and can be an example even from behind bars. Pray for his safety and sanity.

l heartily disapproved of Russell Brand about 20 years ago when I first heard of his shenanigans with Jonathon Ross, which saw Brand out on his ear from the BBC, while Ross was suspended for just 12 weeks without pay.
Nonetheless, I’ve just read up about them, and both continued in lucrative radio, tv and film work, Ross up to the present (still with the BBC & Channel 4, source of the Brand press storm) and Brand until 2024 when, having been publicly baptised in the River Thames, he became subject to a police investigation into historic sexual misconduct allegations.
I’m not certain that his behaviour was always pristine, but I’m pretty sure he’s upset someone up the chain of command, somewhere, for this to have been pursued so doggedly(!) I do wonder what he knows about who’s closet. This really doesn’t smell like justice, but all of the media here,without exception, are piling in on him.
Even if there is no individual or small group he’s particularly antagonized, his public disrespect for the woke state is enough to get him in trouble.

I was wondering what evidence was used in the trial other than victim statements. The only thing I could find was that there may have been his staffers witnessing some type of “bad behavior” for one of the cases.
