Ken Rapoza, senior industry analyst at the Coalition for a Prosperous America, spoke with NTD’s Steve Lance about the current trade standoff between the United States and Canada, including Canada’s points of contention over Big Tech streaming regulations.
Rapoza said Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney positioned himself at the World Economic Forum as the West’s leading opposition figure to Trump and the U.S. trade agenda, which Carney argues has destabilized the broader Western economic order.
According to Rapoza, Carney relishes that role in opposing Trump. Rapoza said he believes Carney thinks that if he can keep the tariffs in place through their September 8 effective date, it could hurt Republicans ahead of the midterm elections.
Ultimately, Rapoza predicts Canada will blink first, since its economy is far more dependent on U.S. markets than the U.S. is on Canada’s.
