The jury deliberated for three hours and returned the verdict of guilty against Karmelo Anthony, for murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. Anthony stabbed Metcalf in the heart.
The evidence against Karmelo Anthony was overwhelming. The trial now moves to the sentencing phase for jurors to decide Anthony’s punishment. Anthony, who is now 19 years old, faces a sentencing range of five to 99 years, or life in prison with the opportunity for parole.

On cross examination, prosecutor Bill Wirskye asked Hayes if Anthony “still gets to be a part of your life” and she said yes, WFAA-TV reported.
The defense rested its case on punishment about 2:50 p.m., and the judge called for a short break before giving the jury instructions to deliberate on punishment. Closing arguments on punishment are expected this afternoon, WFAA reported. (source)

Used to be in the UK that the nobility could only be tried in the House of Lords. Everyone else went through the court system.
When shysters are allowed to hand pick juries depending on the case and or state the outcome is different in every city or state.
If this case was tried in California or NY this cold blooded killing punk would walk free.
This was in Frisco TX, an affluent suburb of Dallas. Majority white, higher incomes, very well educated. The jury pool was drawn from there. Many of the blacks in the jury pool were disqualified when they admitted they would not send a young black man to jail. The judge that heard this case is one of the better ones, the DA did a good job. A just verdict (hard to argue with the evidence).
Yes, if there had been a willingness by all to hold the youngster accountable for his behaviour, regardless of the level of melanin production in his body, and regardless of where he was raised, and without unjust application of empathy, and without thoughts of mitigation on account of there possibly being role models who had harmfully affected his values, thinking, and attitude towards himself and others; then the jury might have had a different composition.
For the sake of the integrity of that community as a whole, I am grateful for the honesty of the people in the jury pool who knew and acknowledged they could not have processed, justly, the information presented to them if they had been on the jury.
With regard to the videos shown from outside the courtroom, I found it sad hearing the false narratives and unhelpful attitudes shaping and influencing the younger members of the subculture to which the knife carrier belonged. I found the women with the five sons particularly reckless in her expressed thinking, saying they can’t walk away. It seems she was grossly uninformed regarding what had happened that led to the young man being convicted of murder. If, when told he needed to leave a place he was not permitted to be, he had walked away, graciously, he would not, as the woman implied, have been killed for doing so, and he would have had the potential to spend the rest of his youth and young adulthood with less remorse and a far greater level of freedom than he now has. From what I heard the woman say, it seemed she, in her own bitterness, was inadvertently working hard to pave her own sons’ respective paths to unnecessary and unbeneficial pain.
Without wise stewardship, seeds and roots of some tragedies overlap and intertwine, leading to further deprivation of vibrancy and life.
Aside from any possible FBI or CIA instigation in the displays outside the courthouse, there is a large element in most “black” communities who hate white folk, the laws in this country, never assuming accountability in nearly everything, etc., etc. If I were a young black man or woman my “north star” in how to conduct myself in life would be Supreme Court Jurist Clarence Thomas, Dr. Ben Carson, the late Herman Cain, American political analyst & foreign policy expert Kiron Skinner, Senator Tim Scott, and during the Civil War period, the incomparable Frederick Douglass plus many others. Georgia and the south have something completely alien to people

This is a legal term that allows a criminal to argue they were in an intense emotional state when they committed wrongdoing. If it is granted, it would reduce Anthony’s murder to a second-degree felony.
The jury convicted him of murder, but this would effectively reduce the conviction to manslaughter. I wonder why the prosecutors agreed to this. They argued for murder for the conviction.

35 years is a bit light, but prison ages you quickly. He’s not going to have much of a life when he gets out in his mid 50s. No gainful employment, no friends or family left.
The Metcalf family has lost their son….. Forever. Theirs is a life sentence.
Personally, KA should get life WITHOUT the possibility of parole. That would be one up from what they left the Metcalf family.

Being a slight young fellow who grew up in relative affluence, spoiled rotten by momma, believing other people have to let him have his way, Karmelo seems unlikely to serve even half his term. Texas prisons are tough as hell, and Karmelo has no idea what the brotha’s are going to put him through. At minimum he will have to be under the “protection” of much tougher inmates in exchange for miserable usage (there is nothing funny about prison rape). I would not be surprised if he were killed or committed suicide within the year, if he is put in with the general population. It’s sad for anyone to be facing his fate, even though he brought it upon himself.

You are wrong. A Black Pastor told me that it is easier in prison than in jail because in prison you can get better visiting times and packages from home. Also prison is more structured with fresh druggies not in the same cell as you will be in.

However, in fairness to the jury: GOOD FOR THEM.
At least they did not cave, they did not go the “manslaughter” nonsense way, they did not bite at the “crime of passion” exit they were offered before sentencing. They did come with a real prison term, not a slap on the wrist.
In the REAL world, it is a good outcome. The wonderful young man Austin Metcalf and his lovely, grieving, decent, unhealable family got at least a tablespoon of Justice. Far from ideal, I’ll be first to say. Given the state of the country and the toxic racist currents in society, it could have been way worse. I thank the jury for that non-ideal, incomplete serving of justice. As for the wounded family, I hope they find a modicum a peace and sleep at least a tiny bit better.

I also saw that enormous sums of money were contributed to the family for the thug’s legal expenses but the family has used most of it to buy a new house and car.
