It is so hard for a cat to not touch anything moving. My entertainment is when I am printing something and as soon as the cats here the printer, boom, right there looking at it and trying to decide if they can touch it without getting harmed.
Latest with Cleo, (have tissues handy), when she sits on my lap as I read TCTH or do grading, etc., she lays facing upward and now takes gentle, (no claws out), pats on my cheeks! I tear up every time she does it. I guess it is her way of acknowledging me as her person or her way of thanking me. Whatever it is, it profoundly moves me, since she was so feral when she came to my property.

Took Blue to the vet yesterday for his teeth to get floated. Poor old man, (he is 30 next month), is missing quite a few teeth on both sides of his mouth. He can not really get much roughage, i.e. hay with missing teeth. The alfalfa hay I’ve been getting lately is really green and leafy and he does manage to eat the leafy stuff. The Vet said his weight was good considering his teeth, and to continue to feed him the Senior feed and continue to feed him the alfalfa pellets, wet down, to make them softer for him. He does have arthritis in both his front and back left legs. I have known this Equine Vet (she only specializes in Equines, donkeys, and burros), since we moved here. She knows I live on a fixed income so is giving me a break and letting me pay her partial this month and partial next month. She also told me about a powdered Bute I can give him in his feed for his arthritis that is a lot less money than the pills I could give him and it would last a lot longer. She has been Blue’s vet since I got him and she always loved his foals. She told everyone yesterday, how good minded his foals were and how beautiful their conformation was.
Now I have to save for a Farrier. It is not as big a worry as the “old horse” issues because Blue has always had really good hooves and I never had any problems with them. Thankfully he passed on the good hooves to his foals as well. The Farrier I had has retired so I will have to check with the vet for a recommendation. She raises Thoroughbreds and does Dressage, so any Farrier she recommends will be a good one. Guess that is all the news from this household of fur babies, large and small!

<Popeye’s> made some great biscuits before it got sold out with death of ownership, IDK if they recovered I have not been there post their dire straits.
Biscuit making is an art, I learned from both great grandmothers, tried to convey the art to the employee responsible for breakfast but nope… stopped breakfast service after about 3 months, hard to compete with every hotel giving away free bad breakfasts with canned SoaS gravy.
Good not agree more. Have never had a better biscuit than Popeye’s in their early days in New Orleans.

I have been trying to grasp the absurdity of being bogged down in a massive war that you are not winning and deciding the answer is to broaden the war to fight many more countries. Japan and China and 1941.
There was an absolute belief that they would crush their new opponents. But at the same time a determination that if they didn’t, they would force the enemy to break himself upon their defenses and give up.
They had complete fore knowledge of our massive prewar Navy building plan. Yamamoto predicted that they could run amok for 6 months. Midway was June of 1942. He also predicted that after 2 years he could make no promises. By November 1943, our fleet was big enough that we could invade Tarawa. Both predictions were extremely accurate. But he was criticized for making such defeatist statements. By the Marianas, we had 15 carriers to their 9. And it quickly got worse.
And the rest of the Navy knew it as well. Achieving victory after victory and going home to protect the fleet. Leaving before the job is finished. They kept their fleet preserved as much as possible. But by the time they were ready to commit, they were massively outnumbered. But to win, they would need repeated miraculous one sided victories as we keep building new ships.
Yes, the belief that Americans were weak was ingrained. Similarly the belief that they were superior was absolute. Completely racist, worse than our racist views of them. Those two things underlay all their bad plans.
Yet the military leadership never waivered. They were like a bad backgammon player desperately trying to ‘win’ by repeatedly doubling down. At the end they were preparing a fourth of their population to attack with farm tools and were quite willing to let another 1/4 die of starvation, just so long as we would be forced to sue for peace, allowing them to keep everything they still held.
And as the video hints, their propaganda never changed. Still firmly committed to their superiority and our inferiority. Even as the poor soldiers came to realize it wasn’t so, the belief was ingrained in the leadership. Anything that questioned it was ostracized as defeatism.
And suicide was built into their plans from the start. Those ten minisubmariners at Pearl were on a suicide mission. And after Guadalcanal, all island defenses could not be supported when under attack. Hence each island defense was a suicide mission. Knowing that, they strove to learn how to make each Japanese suicide more costly to America. Eventually they devolved to flinging ships and aircraft and yes soldiers in suicide attacks. But the idea was built in to the philosophy.
Oddly enough, we confuse Bansai attacks with suicide attacks. I am glad there were different words as the documentary pointed out. A Bansai attack was a demonstration of superior military spirit to break inferior military spirits. But it was also a tactic of feudal warfare which could not work against artillery and machineguns. Even as defenses devolved to suicide attacks, Bansai became a way of showing you could be beaten, but your military spirit was still unbroken. Going out in a blaze of glory.
Going back to Pearl, there is much more. Ever since the Meiji Restoration, Japan was trying to demonstrate its superiority by winning the Empire Game of Colonialism. All of Asia and the Pacific was “theirs” to colonize, even Australia. When they doubled down, they went big. And they laid the groundwork for that in 1940 with Greater East Asian Coprosperity Sphere.
I am confused about the need to attack America. They could have taken all the European territories and had all the resources they needed. They had spent decades planning to start a war in the Pacific with an invasion of the Philippines and a fleet designed to crush our fleet when we came to the rescue. Also, you have to include the unmentionable knowledge that our navy would be too big for that by the end of 1943 in their calculation. And the Philippines were positioned perfectly to keep those resources away from Japan if we did go to war.
But I have no idea how Roosevelt could have motivated us to go to war against Japan when we weren’t attacked and he really wanted us to go to war against Hitler.
And doubling down is better than the shame of surrender.
I also find the run up to the war to be hard to fathom. Commodore Perry showed the Shogun as weak. Hence Meiji restored the rule of the Emperor. And ended the Samurai class but tried to modernize Japan by extending Samurai sensibilities to the people who used to be peasants. By 1930, the military was trying to become the next Shogun. Thus Manchuria, and China were wars started by mutiny and used to gain power for the military. But Pearl had the Emperor’s approval.
Also, there were small wars between Japan mutineers and the USSR in 1938 & 1939. If Japan had won, that part of Asia could have been the near term focus of Japan’s war. But they lost. And it disappears down the memory hole. It also helped Stalin unite with Hitler to start the war in Poland. Then when Hitler turned on Stalin, he learned that he no longer needed to defend against Japan and rushed those troops to defend Moscow. Yet at the end, the Japanese were relying on their neutrality pact with their enemy Stalin, whom they knew was going to break the pact, to negotiate for peace instead of surrender.
Much of this thinking is just too strange to accept and comprehend. So thanks. Every little bit helps

Thursday, for the first time since my surgery I hopped on my zeroturn and mowed my own yard. Steve has been mowing it for me until now. He put my gas in my mower because all my gas cans are full and thus weigh about 40 lb.
I checked the oil, cleaned the air filter, checked the tire pressures, and then finally did something that made me feel I was doing something. It sure felt good!
I also had a low tire on thegas powered golf cart and I filled it and checked the pressure of the others, checked the oil. Then I put the charger on the battery overnight.
Soon enough I will be able to do the trim with the push mower and string trimmer and change the blades on the zero turn.
It will be late summer before I’m able to do some of the heavier work I want to get done. But my incision if fully healed now and I am comfortable wearing pants with a belt.
Glad you’ve recovered that much.
It helps to be able to return to doing things…..it helps to be able to have a sense of normalcy.
Watching others do things you normally could drove me nuts. Watching some things fall apart because I could not manage them drove me nuts.
The more you do the more you CAN do over time.
It is good you had people you can count on during your down time.
Go slow enough to fully heal and enjoy the rewards of improving.
It matters.

They most certainly need the rain down there but they sure don’t need the wind, tornadoes, and tennis ball sized hail!

when Doc and I became full time RVers in 2002 I used a record player that connected to my computer. Spent hours converting records of all sizes to mp3 files. So even now I get to enjoy my ‘records. I even get to hear the scratches. And no moving parts to attract cat claws (ha ha)
I think (besides Belafonte) I have over 1000 files – includes different tapes and then CDs.
Alas, my ears don’t hear some frequencies, so some music, especially classical, sounds funny.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

My first thought in the morning is of God;
Asking His blessings – for me – is not odd;
What is odd and quite perplexing to me;
Is the smile on my face when I think of Thee!
What comes to mind in Morning Prayer?
With each petition – through each layer;
The joy experienced when reminded;
The truth exposed – no longer blinded!
Thank You, Lord, for opening my eyes;
For helping me see – for making me wise;
For sending me – a great gift in disguise;
Someone to respect – a friend to advise!
You touched my heart where others could not;
You accepted my help – without a thought;
You laughed at my jokes – though silly they are;
You welcomed my friendship – from near and afar!
You challenged my knowledge – and added to it;
You carefully connected the dots adrift;
You made me wonder ‘bout God and His plan;
To where it would lead – from whence it began!
You gave me a place – to pray and to love;
You prayed with me – stayed with me – above;
Together we lifted up many a friend;
And brought forth God’s blessings to that end!
How can I thank you – what more can I say;
You make me smile each and every day;
What can I do for you – to ease your mind?
How can I thank you for being so kind?
If I asked God to bless you – would that be enough?
Gee Whiz…giving back to you – is terribly tough;
What can I say when I am lost for words?
Expressly refrain from sliding backwards!
What can I do to end this quandary?
As I open my heart – and air my laundry?
So humble and sweet is your heart, my dear;
It’s nearly impossible for me, I fear!
Perhaps, I will ask Our Father above;
If He will shower you with His love;
Send comforting angels to hold you gently;
Sing you their songs – calm you contently!
Warrior angels I’ll ask God to send;
To protect you – fight for you – to the end;
May the Holy Spirit chide you each day;
With knowledge and wisdom to guide your way!
In my Evening Prayer, I think of you;
I thank God sincerely for all you do;
As I end my prayer and end my day;
You make me smile – it just won’t go away!
