The husband of Chinese friends of ours, who immigrated here legally and are now both U.S. citizens, will be going to China on October 8th — just for medical tests and procedures.

It will cost him less to travel (and everything associated with that) and go to a doctor in China than it would for him to have the same things done here in the U.S.

That, and your back-breaking medical insurance costs, are criminal.

When my husband retired, I still had 5 or so years to go before I could get on Medicare. We looked at individual policies for me… and OMG! I could NOT believe how much it would cost. So, I went without. I don’t go to the Dr’s anyway so why should I spend $2k plus per mth for nothing?

Insurance of all types are becoming very expensive must haves. Something will have to change.

Something has to change. It’s not just the cost but the poor quality when dealing with corporate insurance and healthcare.

Some new possibilities are Concierge medical plans and Direct Primary Care. People on Medicare aren’t eligible for concierge plans as far as i know (or maybe just the ones I looked at). But people on Medicare can enroll in Direct Primary Care (would be on both Medicare and Direct Primary Care).

I think Direct Primary Care is just getting started so the number are somewhat limited/not in all areas yet, but it is expected to grow.

I avoid the “Healthcare Providers” these days if at all possible. A couple old books from family medical students go a long way.

My comment here will be pretty silly, but I think it is interesting that at the end of the movie, ‘Red’ (2010 spy action comedy), Bruce Willis and his cohort are seen heading to Muldova to fix some problem there.

Maybe Providence should be reminded that Medicare open enrollment starts next month. Providence appears to be struggling, chronically understaffed with doctors continuing to move over to its competitors. Wait time for specialist consults often ranges from three to eight months. Eight months. If this nurse gets fired, she’ll just end up working for a competitor.
