Apple CEO Tim Cook joined President Donald Trump at the White House to announce a commitment by the tech company to increase its investment in U.S. manufacturing by an additional $100 billion over the next four years. Apple is now committed to investing $600 billion in expanded U.S. manufacturing.
The media questioning begins at 20:00 of the video below. WATCH:
“This includes new and expanded work with 10 companies across America. They produce components — semiconductor chips included — that are used in Apple products sold all over the world, and we’re grateful to the President for his support,” Cook said in a statement announcing the investment.
The new manufacturing partners include Corning, Coherent, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments and Broadcom among others.

2016/2024 Hope returns to the USA.
MAGA!
Someone do a message like President Reagan did, President Trump has more than earned it.
I love the painting of President Reagan watching over this press conference.
Will all of this winning ever get to the point where the beaten down Americans will wake up and understand how much these comie Marxist fools hate America?
Believe when I see it. I don’t trust Cook.
C(r)ook.
Yeah, just like Pam Bondi’s fake investigations!
Would you rather have Lisa Monaco still in running things at DOJ?
What’s with all the negative vibes? This is tremendous good news and the Eeyore’s all come out to bray. Take notes people.
I agree, it seems the negative voices here “doth protest too much” lol, too early too often too loud and gratuitously. Means someone is actually doing a great job and they are fighting it. 😲
I never forget that a good percentage of the doomsters are likely paid FUD spreaders.
Sundance once called them RolCons. Easy to tell…
You nailed it Constance Morrow.
I’m not letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Noting all the voices whose reactions are always and immediately critical of any move by this administration. Some CTH posters have long memories of what voices here say.
Critical Theory — basically Marxism, literally criticize everything. That’s what we’re all experiencing on this site and other places.
Been noticing this.
These negative posts here are like a petulant child they cannot be happy no matter. Sowing sorrows!
Like President Trump said we were a “DEAD COUNTRY” “but I don’t trust Cook”…. Yeah, he is spending $600 billion on new infrastructure in America. Would any of the past presidents sans Reagan be able to do that?
Go away all you negative Nellies!!
I feel the same as you. But Cook is a businessman so he does sense that there is much money to be made by pleasing our President.
AI Overview
Apple supports more than 2.9 million jobs in the United States. This includes direct employment, work with U.S.-based suppliers and manufacturers, and developer jobs in the iOS app economy.
Apple’s commitment includes investments in various areas, such as direct employment, supplier and manufacturer partnerships, and the thriving iOS app ecosystem.
Here’s a more detailed breakdown:
Direct Employment: Apple has a significant number of employees working directly for the company in various roles across the U.S.
Supplier and Manufacturer Network: Apple works with thousands of suppliers and manufacturers across all 50 states, contributing to a large number of jobs in these companies.
iOS App Economy: The iOS app ecosystem, including developers creating apps for iPhones and iPads, accounts for a substantial portion of the jobs supported by Apple.
It’s not a real thing.
“Apple spent $43 billion in capex in the past 4 years and generated less than $100 billion in net income in its best year.”

I found That Zero Hedge article didn’t really give more than an opinion that it was empty promises.
Below that article was a link to another ZH article that talks about the closure of a major flagship Apple Store in a Chinese mall due to the contraction of iPhone sales in China.
https://www.zerohedge.com/technology/apple-retreats-china-closes-flagship-store-opened-2008-amid-iphone-erosion
If you read that article to the end and read through the BS, it sounds more like Trump’s anticipated tariffs against China are already having the desired impact as noted by the quick pivot to India and Vietnam.
If I recall correctly, the use of India and Vietnam (and Canada) as pass throughs for goods manufactured in China for the purpose of avoiding tariffs was discussed and addressed by Trump when negotiating those countries tariffs. That was discussed at length here on the Treehouse.
So no, if you read what is really being said it seems Apple will be selling less iPhones in China and that they planned to make a quick piviot to “friend shore manufacturing in India and Vietnam.
A more likely interpretation IMHO is that Apple’s previous idea to manufacture in pass-through countries like India and Vietnam was countered by Trump, who threatened the pass-through countries with severe penalties if they tried to do that. Thus, given the new circumstances, Tim Cook decided manufacturing in America looked a bit more attractive.
.
From that ZH article I linked above lies the real story.
“In the quarter through June, data from Canalys showed that Apple’s pivot toward friendshoring iPhone production from China to India was in full swing. For the first time, India became the largest exporter of smartphones to the U.S., accounting for 44% of shipments. Vietnam was number two.
ST noted, “The Chinese smartphone market is expected to face greater pressure in the second half of the year.”
Perhaps the closure of the Apple store is the result of a combination of factors. It’s certainly not a great sign for Tim Cook and company, as domestic brands in the world’s second-largest economy continue to erode iPhone market share”
So as I noted in my comment above, it looks like the tariffs are indeed making manufacturing more attractive here in the US.
Apple has 40 stores in China and explained that the store was closed because of major problems with the shopping center which was losing tenants. Apple just reported it’s earnings and China IPhone sales were up!
Yes but if you read it all it ALSO says “perhaps it is a combination of factors “ and this hardly sounds like a mall closing is the only reason:
“ certainly not a great sign for Tim Cook and company, as domestic brands in the world’s second-largest economy continue to erode iPhone market share”
“Domestic brands continue to erode iPhone market share“ is very vague, but could be due to more domestic production due to the overall new global tariff restrictions.
Zerohedge is like the old Barron’s when it comes to stocks. They are typically negative and like most of the financial news media especially with Apple Computer. For the largest and most profitable American company in history you’d think that the financial news media wouldn’t be as constantly negative on Apple but for some reason they are. In fact, I have repeatedly seen blatantly false articles about Apple’s upcoming earnings release on Bloomberg without ever seeing a retraction when Bloomberg is proven wrong!
On the other hand, the financial news media is rarely negative on Microsoft or Facebook.
Zerohedge always says we are one step away from
Market Meltdown.
One of these years/decades they will really mail that prediction.
This is good news, I hope it catches on and renews and expands our manufacturing base.
Perhaps some other people are realizing that doing business manufacturing in Chyna is not so beneficial as it was purported to be.
I get Jerome Powell vibes from Cook.
I’m sure he is of the same mindset as most of his social class- that we’re all lazy bums that aren’t billionaires like him because we just don’t work hard enough and be grateful for pennies like the Chinese slaves in his factory are.
Would note that it’s only the end-to-end silicon manufacturing (design, development, manufacturing of wafers, and packaging of die) in the USA. The assembly of their phones will still take place in India for the domestic market and China for the rest of the world.
https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/trump-announces-100-billion-new-investment-pledge-apple-2025-08-06/
‘Apple has a mixed track record when it comes to following through on investment promises.
In 2019, for instance, Cook toured a Texas factory with Trump that was promoted as a new manufacturing site. But the facility had been producing Apple computers since 2013 and Apple has since moved that production to Thailand.
Apple continues to manufacture most of its products, including iPhones and iPads, in Asia, primarily in China, although it has shifted some production to Vietnam, Thailand and India in recent years.
Despite political pressure, analysts widely agree that building iPhones in the U.S. remains unrealistic due to labor costs and the complexity of the global supply chain.’
The vast supply chain ecosystem is mostly in the East, centered in China. Including everything from components through assembly, with all the science/engineering and development that goes with it. There is no way this can move to the US.
Apple is the poster child of US corporations that built their financial wealth exploiting the Asian hive, helping Asia build its industry and science juggernaut rising to strategic global dominance.
In the process decimating US industry and science (symbiosis). These will not return to post-WWII strength, we are past the point of no return, cemented by entrenched DIE subversions and global competition including Asia. The shifts driven by the Trump 2.0 tariffs in a few years will not significantly change this.
Now we are riding the final stages of the resulting “managed decline” leading to the planned end state:
Diminished totalitarian state colluding with other totalitarian states led by China forming a “multi-polar global governance”.
Trump is playing his role in the “managed decline” theater. He is a great showman.
Enjoy the show.
Did you just call the USA a totalitarian state?
“Diminished totalitarian state colluding with other totalitarian states led by China forming a multi-polar global governance”.
President Trump playing a “role”?
“We are past the point of no return” ??? Who is this we you speak of?
Someone is definitely past the point of no return and spouting pure unadulterated propaganda.
Sounds like something out of Mao’s little red book
They forgot to add the “running dog capitalist” trope.
I hope there’s some follow up monitoring of these investments.
I can see where someone might drag their foot until after PT is gone and then chow down on Chinese again.
Apple was shifting production out of China to India and also Vietnam. Then President Trump enacted tariffs on everyone so those plans had to be changed.
I do wonder how many Americans will be willing to take those production jobs?
Look at the remaining English speaking Amazon drivers, Uber, Lyft…
Depends on the pay, I guess.
Didn’t Apple promise billions in Trump’s first term? Hmmm Empty promise? We will see.
soon groceries will cost “billions”. I dont think Trump buys groceries. Walmart—which I dont patronize—are charging vegetables by the item. Not by the pound. a plum is $1.32 EACH. A grapefruit is $1.42 EACH. It is absurd. a hundred dollars buys a little bit of groceries. Whoever tells him these comments on groceries seem determined to make him look stupid.
Looks like $2.99 a pound for plums.

Grocery prices skyrocketed in 2021 through 2024, a rise of 20%, under Biden.
Grocery prices are just now leveling off under President Trump.
Facts not fancy,
Intentional “Transitory” Bideninflation did cause prices to skyrocket.
Biden and his cronies hurt millions of families and destroyed people on fixed incomes.
You never know where inflation is going to take you.
Intentional inflation by the Master of Malarky is a huge sin against the people.
? Individual priced item (pineapple, guacamole, avocados, etc) are still priced that way as are bulk items. Besides prices not much has changed where so live (PA) . I prefer the Amish produce though
Here’s a good interview that shows how TSCM (I guess a guy at Texas Instruments didn’t get a promotion and went o Taiwan to start his own manufacturing, guess it could’ve been Texas instead Taiwan had TI realized what they had passed over) became dominant and what it means. It’s very interesting and scary at the same time, not a single electronic product (for the most part) is made in the world that doesn’t rely on some component with a chip made by TSCM.
The only thing I rolled my eyes at in the interview was the “disinformation” mentions, but they have a point: not on Russia, Russia, but very realistic conversational AI agents trying to “influence” – think bots, phone calls, etc.
This is good news and Tim Cook knows a good business deal. He and Trump have met quite often while Trump has been President.
Yes!
Get the price of regular unleaded below $2.00 per gallon.
The American economy will roar without inflation, the fed banksters will become irrelevant, the Russians will behave, the ayatollaholes will be kicked out by the Persian people, and the demofascists will cry.
Food for thought…
Note: Past capitol expenditures aside – Apple only has somewhere on the order of $50B cash on hand and is $78B in debt. They are bringing in a gross profit of $186B a year – but the net income is half that.
https://www.macrotrends.net/stocks/charts/AAPL/apple/cash-on-hand
Apple will invest just as much as the European Union which Trump boasted was not a loan and he could do with the 600B from the EU however he pleases… which – if Apple alone can invest 600B – makes the EU deal look pretty cheap, or the Apple deal pretty bleak.
I think the EU should invest * insert Dr Evil jingle * 60 trillion dollars instead 🙂
I suppose we should also prepare for $3000 dollar IPhone models.
Dod must be funding somewhere the fruit and carriers so IC can have latest location/translation etc data for “monitoring everyone.
Using GAAP? Excess Cash flow projections non GAAP 2025-2029. 128, 265, 370, 475, 581. GAAP earnings are 100% misleading when viewed quarterly or annually -Warren Buffet. To sum it up-Appl has the cash
The locations he is planning to build at are somewhat troubling to me. I don’t trust this snake. He allowed the FBLie to get J6er’s phone records. He had Apple participate in violating citizens rights. Who knows what he has done with China? Wonder if he knew Epstein? Something is very wrong with this “guy”. Apple is anti American, but many lust for their products. Common sense is not so common. Ex? Tik Tok.
Globalistas.
I have been trying for years to give up my Iphone. Your comment reminded me that I am not trying hard enough.
While it may have been symbolic they were the only company I am aware of that resisted breaking codes for the FBI. The FBI broke into the phones. If Apple let it happen please show me some proof. I’d like to read it if J missed something this important-c
I HATE THE DEMOCRAT-OWNED NEWS MEDIA! Their coverage of this big development focused on how an I-Phone may cost $3,200 due to tariffs on parts that make I-Phones. President Trump should order the IRS, DOJ, FCC, DOL, SEC to bring the Legacy Media to their knees with Audits, Probes, and Inspections! 😡
Keep their data centers out of my county.
Tyler Durden over at Zero Hedge isn’t buying any of this.
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/trump-impose-100-chip-tariffs-will-exempt-us-investors-apple
The comments are telling. Bring tons of 🧂
I can almost smell the Cheetos dust.
Any traders left on the hedge, like all traders only care about their book. They are short term and could care less about the average American. 401ks are going to take a hit for sure but given the financial situation of the US we must bring businesses back. So like in the 80s-90s when Dems and Repubs said buy China for returns , this American will still be investing in the US. I want a country for my Grandkids. If that means less a rerun for me then so be it. The rest of the American sellouts can do what they want. And please no bs libertarian free trade arguments. I was a libertarian once. Free trade only works when others allow it and none of these tariff countries allowed it.
Everything is never up to one man to accomplish. It lies on every American citizen to change their consumer habits. Am quite certain, if one researches, they will be able to find alternative, possibly even better quality products.
Comments on the hedge were relevant 10 years ago ( I have been on the site since it came online). This as once the best site on the net. The majority of traders are long gone now. Not worth much from a finance perspective anymore. You can still learn a lot but it’s not the site it once was. And if you had listened to Durden over the last 15 years you probably lost the chance at making a lot of money
Great meme!
Good news. If anyone can afford to eat the tariffs, it’s Apple. They are the poster child for what Secretary Lutnick has talked about, chasing quarterly earnings and profit margins for the 8% who own stock at the expense of the American consumer who gets gouged by them. From what I’ve heard from multiple sources, they sell a smartphone that costs them $10-15 to make for $1000. It’s time for them to come back home to the America that allowed them to rise and flourish.
Corning, Coherent, Applied Materials, Texas Instruments
Should we invest?
For what it’s worth Besides Corning and applied they all look overvalued. Txn looked good but are mostly analog chips right? And they are also overvalued
