I did straight away, being an artist (and it’s my fav colour). Red and blue combined make purple. I took it as a symbol of uniting the country as the two parties are represented by Red and blue.

Melania was holding two Bibles, and was delayed getting into place. Mrs. Vance and VP Vance were dealing with moving three young children back into their seats.

Yes. Personally, I found this disruption to the proceedings quite irritating. The inauguration was not a appropriate event for such young children to be attending – and of which (naturally) they had absolutely no comprehension.

Robberts started the oath before the family could get to the President. Melanie was holding the Bible, but Trump was already repeating the oath before she reached him. I wondered if that was intentional on the part of Roberts. He did end with, “So help me God.”
Roberts has sworn in other Presidents and he knows the traditions, e.g. the family is in place, the bible is at the ready.
I believe he did it on purpose. That’s just the kind of guy he is.

Turley pointed out that this is not the first time Justice Roberts has fouled up an oath ceremony, in fact he wrote about Justice Roberts previous mess ups and stated that he did the same thing with Obama during the 2009 inauguration. He stated that Roberts unlike others does not keep the card with the words on him during the ceremonies in which he has more than once missed or forgot the very first part of the recitation, moving too quickly thru the process. Turley gave other further details about the ceremonial process, like the fact the founders did not include the phrase “so help me God” due to the fact that they were sticklers that no religious test shall be administered, as they kept an open mind to the possibility that an atheist might be a candidate.
He also stated that Trump’s oath in 2017 is already documented (even though it does not have to be, because a person who is not loyal to the constitution does not qualify for candidacy) therefore it’s merely ceremonial for pomp and circumstance.

Over the decades of my life I’ve noticed that every president I’ve seen inaugurated put their hand on the Bible, and it never meant or guaranteed that that president would not lie, that that president would protect the United States. That would imply that the physical Bible somehow casts a spell on them and their choices, going forward. I certainly do not think about my Bible that way. Yikes.
Joey Biden put his hand on the Bible. Hussein obama put his hand on the Bible. Their act was meaningless. Putting the hand on the Bible NEVER guarantees a true swearing of allegiance. Speaking the oath, “taking the oath” NEVER guarantees that the oath is taken internally.
It’s interesting to note that every single time a jury trial is held, every witness promises to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth-–and then the jury has the task of determining who is telling the truth.
There was a hurriedness about the physical movements of the primary people in the moment of POTUS Trump speaking the oath of office, declaring his intentions and his heart. Melania had not had the opportunity to get into place, physically. I attribute that hurriedness to the cramped space, the quickly planned movement of people, just after VP Vance had been sworn in. The sense of “stately” was missing just because there was neither space to implement it, time to plan for it, or familiarity with “how it would go”.
I see it is already a major headline on Citizen Free Press/Gateway Pundit type sites that “social media” blew up with regard to this.
Perhaps POTUS should have stopped the proceedings and said, “Melania, get over here with that Bible.”
I am less bothered by what happened than I am by the questions and concerns. If a man did NOT intend to take the oath seriously and intended to dishonor the oath, he would absolutely have his hand flat and clearly on the Bible in order to deceive the audience. In 2009 Roberts messed it up as well as he rushes thru and leaves out bits of the recitation. On January 21st 2009 Roberts was called to the White House to re-recite the swearing in, so they could have the photo-op. It was suggested that Trump should call Roberts to the White House as well, just to shush the rabid media that will latch onto anything and run with it into the ground.
We have been waiting for so long… I still can’t believe how smoothly it all went!

Justice Roberts rushed Trump’s part of the swearing-in to start exactly at noon (actually, it was 12:01, one minute late) before Melania (who had the bible) and Trump’s family were in position around him. It appears Justice Kavanaugh went a minute over on JD Vance’s swearing in. If you watch the video, you can see Trump’s family scrambling into position as Justice Roberts has already begun the oath. I think the bible was an oversight on Trump’s part due to his focus on raising his right hand and reciting the OATH, and not the theater of the bible. Unfortunate. Paired with the bizarre “riiiipppp” of the background music right as Carrie Underwood was about to start singing God Bless America and inability to get the music going, it wouldn’t surprise me if these were petty little sabotages snuck in by liberal staffers to generate bad publicity. “The theater kids strike back”.

Once the oath of office was originally taken with hand on bible, as in 2016, it is forever. As it is, the hand on bible is merely symbolical, as it is the spoken words “so help me God”, which have power and meaning. An oath sworn to God stands until Judgment Day, which anyone who has deeply studied the bible understands.
It matters not that PDJT didn’t have his hand on the bible today. Anyone, and I do mean anyone, making an issue of this needs to study their bible more closely.

Roberts started administering the Oath of Office before Melania holding the Bibles and the family were in place. Wouldn’t be the first time Roberts messed up this part of the Swearing In Ceremony! Also, President Trump’s tie is NOT purple. It is a red/blue pattern that appears purple from a distance.

Notice how she’s glancing about uncomfortably but nothing she can do about it. Justice Roberts was under pressure because the oath didn’t begin until 12:01pm. I personally think it’s unfortunate.
