Awww… do you have the mask on your burro to help against sandflies? Savannah’s working volunteering with the horses was one of my best decisions of my life. Hard work, deep love. Except now she wants horses. Guess she’ll have to land that incredible career that allows such luxuries.
Yep, the flies are voracious here, especially in summer. We take them off in winter. Unfortunately, they get caught on bushes cactus, etc, so we buy about 3 sets a year. So great Savannah is communing with horses.
Yes, it is expensive! Thirteen animals means we do staycations and drive older cars – Well worth it!!!
She “was” communing with horses. The non-profit is having lots of trouble with leadership and management. Kyboshed the volunteering opportunities over there and not sure how much longer they’ll stay intact.
So much is changing with so few people taking responsibility for leading. “Atlas Shrugged” by Ayn Rand sure seems to be a foregone conclusion, too.
She’s got school and her small part-time job until May, but the management at her job said they closed a sister location in Bloomington, IN last week and their shop may be next.

Betsy, I can’t thank you enough for your excellent Lewis posts. Your reintroduction of him to me caused us to watch a play about him last Christmas that was wonderful. Kiddo and I went on to read the “Great Divorce” and “A Grief Observed” together. I furthered by purchasing her the whole box set of his works last year and just acquired the box set of the “Chronicles of Narnia” this Christmas (though we have had one of the movies for a long time)… most fortunate Costco finds… and now they have since discontinued the selling of books. How very sad!
Savannah loves him and is routinely choosing him as her favorite author through her Apologetics class. Which is completed, sadly. I thought she was going to cry when she said goodbye to the instructor and online student participants from all over the globe.
She was so very sorry to leave that class as it was only one semester. She got an 84% in that class and it was a lot of work for her, and she loved every minute of it. Proctoring her, I was amazed at her memory recall of relevant Biblical scripture in answer to, and participation in, her coursework.
So thankful for The Potters School online curriculum and God-honoring instructors. I wish, oh I so wished, I would have transitioned her online sooner… but beauty comes from ashes and God Will use our story with the public education system to help others. Savannah is quite content with that and she has no fear of retaliation or retribution, nor does she wish ill on those who harassed and harmed her. She knows, they too… will be taken care of by God Himself.
The Treehouse is terrific for its journalism and articles and Sundance’s fantastic reporting, but it too is a tremendous blessing for its contributors at the commentary level. So much can be learned!

I used to have a boss – Peter Holt who owned the CAT dealer in South Texas and he would say… “None of us is as smart as all of us.” He was a great leader and I am blessed to have been educated there in Texas under CAT direction. The dealership is run by his daughter now and I’m not certain how much of that original methodology and philosophy is still there. I always search for that Values Based Leadership wherever I go. It’s few and far between now.

Hi again, Bet! Last night at 1 o’clock one of our smoke detectors started beeping. Changing the batteries didn’t help so I pulled the battery out and that did the job. I guess at 20 years old the smoke detectors malfunction. Anyway, the dogs and the cats were out of there when that happened. The cats came in but the 2 dogs were nowhere to be seen. By the time I got dressed and went out Elizabeth had already driven the truck around and found them by the cottage. I was outside for a bit looking for them and her and it was 32 with a wind chill of 19. Brrr. 🥶 Guess I didn’t dress warm enough but the time outside was short.
I left a short message for you above regards my hopes the cold plus winds hadn’t reached you…I see they have.
I didn’t look to see what the temp was nor how much folder it was with ferocious winds which brought it in. Yikes! I figure we were the same. I am relieved you found the dogs and all are in the warm. I wish I could say the same for the cats which have found us. The little tuxedoed one who is sweet as can he was not seen yesterday, but his friend hung around, and this morning has found the large box with multi folded quilt. We’re trying to coax him in…
Why is it those dang fire alarm thingies always…and I mean ALWAYS…choose to start beeping at night !!?!? The same happens to us. In our house there are three within spitting distance of one another, so we are reduced to standing there between beeps in order to determine which one is sticking its tongue out at us.

Evening, Bet. Just now coming back after a busy day away from home. Brrrr, it’s getting cold! No snow here in central Tx (yet) but folks are already talking about the ’21 cold spell. Fortunately, my ’29 house still has its original gas space heaters—was comfy/wam back then and I expect I’ll keep the home fires burning . So to speak. 🙂
BTW Back then I discovered by accident that if you have a hospital, police station, or fire station close by, your neighborhood won’t have utilities blackouts. We had lights and heat the whole time. We’ll see what happens this time. 🙂
Yesterday, I was up on my low-sloped parapet roof doing some essential winterizing. Yes, I was very careful, have a very sturdy ladder, made a slow and easy climb. I had to make sure the scuppers were clear of leaves in case it rains or sleets. I’d paid a guy to do that just about 10 days ago and my roof promptly collected a new load of dead leaves.
Little ‘Tink does not like this cold weather! She went out for a little while earlier (it was still 50 degrees) . . . and then waited ’till I was heading out to my study before running to the back door so I could let her in. I expect to have a warm little companion again tonight. Good kitty!

Very entertaining! Love his use of natural harmonics of the strings as a counterpoint (?) to the melody….while playing the melody with his left hand on the fretboard. I’ve seen both techniques before but not used simultaneously and as effectively.
I’ve seen flamenco guitarists, use this technique. I was impressed then as now. Alas, I still haven’t regained full range of motion in my left hand. Time for hand focused PT. My daughter-in-law is a OT. She knows all the types of therapies to treat hands, wrists, arms, and everything else. And of course, every patient is unique, depending on their very particular issues in their limbs. She showed me how to do exercises to try to deal with the neuropathy, I have in my hands from carpal tunnel issues in both arms. It works pretty good what she has me do doesn’t solve it, but it does relieve it for a while.

I have been reading up on DMSO. It’s used as a solvent and paper making. Must be very careful when using this product.

We’ve used DMSO with great success externally. I’ve not been able to abide the taste to try internally.
One of the reasons it is so effective is its ability to penetrate the skin. That is also the reason one must be careful – anything else on your skin such as soap, lotion, perfume, etc will also be transported.
The FDA, of course, does not approve of it. That is the same FDA that Did approve of the clot shot, thalidomide, and numerous other very harmful substances.
As always, it pays to use caution and common sense when using anything new to you.

If you followed me during the war I said that the war with Hezbollah is won by the Mossad. All the locations of the missiles, the beeper and walkie talkie attack, all the locations of the entire leadership in real time. We don’t know if this war is over, time will tell. I am afraid of a surprise attack on the IDF before Inauguration to save face, possibly an attempt to kidnap soldiers, but Hezbollah was badly overwhelmed and we didn’t get the 15,000 rockets a day that we were told may happen. That would have been thousands of casualties.
Anyways if you didn’t watch this video you don’t want to miss it. It’s two Mossad lead commanders who managed the beeper operation in an interview on US TV the “60 Min Program”. Now, I dislike the interviewer, she “smells Progressive”, she keeps mentioning “civilians” and “morality” when the beeper attack was as precise attack on Hezbollah as could be. She also said “two children killed”. It must be a lie, they count
17, 18, 19 years old terrorists as “children”. Only fighters had beepers and it was designed to hit only who had the beeper.
It’s unusual that Mossad is on TV, usually they don’t even admit their operations. But since it is obvious what happened, part of the strategies of Mossad is to instill fear in the enemy and make terrorists feel they need to hide no matter where.
This interview does have the scare element. The higher commander sounds very smart and ruthless. I wouldn’t want to be at the other side of his operations.
Note: the beeper operation took thousands of Hezbollah fighters out of the war option. Disabled them for life. It sounds horrifying and I watched videos of their hospitals, but this is war.

Biography: Louis Braille was a French educator and inventor of the braille reading and writing system for the blind. He developed this system in the early 19th century, despite being blinded himself at the age of three in an accident with a stitching awl in his father’s workshop.
Braille was admitted to the Royal Institute for Blind Youth in Paris at the age of ten, where he learned using the existing system of embossed Latin letters devised by Valentin Haüy. Mendel is often called the father of modern genetics for his study of the inheritance of traits in pea plants. His work laid the foundation for the modern understanding of genetics and heredity.
Mendel was born in a German-speaking family in Silesia, then part of the Austrian Empire. He entered an Augustinian monastery in Brno in 1843 and was later sent to the University of Vienna to study under the sponsorship of the monastery. Roosevelt was previously the Assistant Secretary of the Navy, but resigned to lead the Rough Riders in the Spanish-American War. After this he served as Governor of New York from 1899 to 1900. He accepted a proposal to become McKinley’s running mate, and the ticket won the 1900 election in a landslide.
A lifelong naturalist, Roosevelt made conservation a top priority for his administration, and established many new national parks, monuments and forests. He championed the Square Deal set of domestic policies which promised citizens fairness, breaking of trusts, regulation of railroads, and pure food and drugs.
In foreign policy he started construction on the Panama Canal and generally focused on Central America. In 1906 he won the Nobel Peace Prize for successfully brokering an end to the Russo-Japanese War. He was re-elected in 1904 to a full term and continued to champion progressive causes. In 1908 his hand-picked successor William Howard Taft was elected president, though the two fell out during Taft’s time in office.
Roosevelt is one of four presidents – along with Abraham Lincoln, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson – to be carved into Mount Rushmore. He is also known for refusing to shoot a bear, inspiring the creation of ‘teddy bear’ children’s toys. Roosevelt’s popular image of masculinity and vast range of interests made him an enduring presidential personality.

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Well it’s a major ice storm here. Many broken trees (bare trees).
Power is out and here I sit at my darkening little screen.
But the generator is running (eff the greenies) and the wood stove is burning, (How many carbon credits must I now purchase?)
The roads are somewhat passable and we only await the wind to wreck havoc tonight on trees and power lines and to block roadways.

But in retrieving a can of gas for the generator I passed under a tree and its ice laden branches reflected the moonlight like little diamonds. It appeared there were hundreds of new stars in the sky.
