Florida Governor Ron DeSantis delivers remarks to the state and media in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton that crossed Florida overnight.
“The worst-case scenario did not unfold” … “Milton began falling apart at the coast.”
Governor Ron DeSantis delivers a strong warning about post-hurricane recovery. Stay away from powerlines, use ladders and generators safely, be careful with chainsaws, avoid bacteria that always follows in dirty standing water. The downstream river flow remains a concern for rising water.
.
Try to stay within your immediate neighborhood for the first 36-48 hours. Keep the roadways and main arteries clear for recovery workers, power companies and fuel trucks.
Remember, when it is safe to drive, every single intersection must be treated like a four-way stop…. and YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION.
Even the major intersections.
You’ll need to override your brain tendency to use memory in transit. You’ll need to pay close attention and watch for those who aren’t paying close attention.
Travel sparingly, it’s just safer.
Stage one recovery focuses on major arteries… then secondary… then neighborhood etc. It’s a process.
For the first 36-48 hours, please try to stay close to home, in your neighborhood. Another reason to stay close to home is the sketchy people who can sometimes surface, looters etc.
Staying close to home and having contact with your neighbors is just reasonable and safer.
If you are on the road and there’s a convoy of utility trucks on the road, pull over. Treat power trucks and tanker trucks like ambulances and emergency vehicles. Pull over, give them a clear road and let them pass.
Many of these smaller crews will be sleeping in cots, or in their trucks while they are working never-ending shifts. Some will be staging at evacuation shelters, likely schools and such. The need to shelter people and recovery crews might also delay the re-opening of schools.
The convenience stores with gas pumps are part of the priority network. Those will get power before other locales without power. Fuel outlets are a priority. Fuel is the lifeblood of recovery.
Hospitals, first responders, emergency facilities, fuel outlets, then comes commercial and residential.

Once you see the strings…
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Wow. I don’t recall a message from Mr hair when Helene hit. What a douche.
Imagine being Gavin Newsom. Your wife slept with Harvey Weinstein. Your in-laws hosted a fundraiser for Trump and fled from California to Ron Desantis’ Florida to escape your governance. Your ex-wife is engaged to Donald Trump Jr. You had an affair with your best friend’s wife. You almost got recalled because you dined at the French Laundry while locking down the state.
And yet, you are likely second in line for nomination as the Dem POTUS candidate.
Democrat Party, the party of insanity aka communism/globalism.
Gavin had an affair with his best friend’s wife, while his best friend was working for him. Gavin was having his best friend work late for him so Gavin had more time to poke his friend’s wife—then Gavin blamed it on drinking, went to rehab for a day at a spa, and his character was healed.
…
Gavin is total scum, runs in the family.
REMEMBER ! This is exactly how F. Joe Biden met and married Dr. (Sic) Jill!!
That’s a great meme going around, saw it on Substack.
One little nitpick: the reason the recall movement started is because at the very time of the lockdowns, a whole bunch of mothers were suddenly unable to work as independent contractors due to state legislation AB5, making many independent contractor gigs unlawful. No more offering services to business if the service is part of ordinary course of business. Think bookkeeping, recruiting, database management etc.
A writer (mother) at Red State told the whole story in 3 parts…I can’t recall her name.
A federal version of legislation is sitting in Congress, awaiting a Dem majority. I believe it started in Senate, Schumer’s baby.
A federal version? AB5 drove me out of the state, and I then went out of business thanks to another California mandate applied nationally. I couldn’t afford the cost yet another $20,000 upgrade and just gave up. I had already blown my wad with upgrading and pricey surprises.
Things went south and I no longer had the income to keep kicking several dead horses. Tired of fighting it after 30 years, and so am quite destitute. For now.
The demoralization does indeed get to a person, and I needed a break.
These demons want to squeeze, and squeeze, until there are none of us left.
To hades with them, I mean to go down fighting.
Newsom
Gruesome Newsome
I think he banged Jarcinda Arden during a meth fueled tryst..
eewwwwwww! Lol
Hilarious!!!
Are you sure she didn’t fight him off yelling “Neigh! Neigh!”
Jarcinda Arden aka Mr. Ed
and
THESE ARE THE THINGS

And your Aunt is scary gangster Nancy Pelosi
Maybe D and Hairgel became friends during their “debate”.
You and I must have been typing close to the same time, see EE below.
With a capital “D”.
Couldn’t agree with you more. The RAT 🐀 Party traitors are panicking!!
Let’s hope they are fighting 💁🏻♀️
Most of us Californians despise him.
Called me jaded, but did he send anyone to help after Helene? I find this”published” statement, especially to Florida, very Suspicious Cat on so many levels.
Anderson Cooper also decide to make a showing, he looked awkward in the real world, out of practice.
Wait, you’re saying Anderson Cooper showed up to help in Florida???!!! I can’t even logically process this one, see representation of expression on my face: 😵💫
He realized the kudos that Desantis received sending assistance to the Carolinas, and he wants to cash on the same.
Besides, it LOOKS presidential
Are you saying Anderson Cooper looks Presidential? GOD FORBID!!! I’m teasing Biddie! Cooper is so left my neck can’t turn that far!
My heart breaks for the people of North Carolina! I’m sure they are happy for Floridians, but it has to be a bitter pill to see how badly they are being screwed.
You know who won’t get re-elected in a million years? Their democrat governor.
Yeah he can’t run again anyway. Term limits. But Josh Stein is our governors mini me and he is winning right now. He is up against Mark Robinson and they will stop at nothing to keep him from winning. Bringing up stuff he said over ten years ago. I’m voting for Robinson!!
Very Sad to say. He’s got more morals than a hundred best-intentioned dimokrats.
Me too.
Surrogates for the great Mark Robinson should fight fire with fire and call out the dems for being racist to not support a black governor of NC.

btw – MY MONEY Is ON – MARK ROBINSON
( literally )
Our Den governor is term limited so he is out anyway. His protege Josh Stein is sadly likely to win. If KH wins I have no doubt Cooper will be in her admin. Gross all around.
Except that Helene will now prevent many of those who would otherwise vote him out, from voting at all, not to mention preventing them from voting in Trump et al..
There’s difference btwn “election” and “selection.”
Stalin: “…not who votes that counts, but who counts the votes.”
Corruption is still deep and wide.
The contrast between Gov Cooper and Gov DeSantis in managing disasters couldn’t be clearer.
That’s more boots on the ground than Roy Cooper sent to WNC..
So, 354 “emergency personnel” …
No thanks. DEI and gender affirming counselors tend to get shoved out of the way down here during recovery.
Somebody needs to upright all the plop-jons on the construction sites.
As always, the Weather Channel and others, use another hurricane to create panic and chaos.
It is a television station which sells advertising: Good news does not attract people, in general.
BAD news sells! And Fake Bad News might sell even more!
In another post I shared Joe Bastardi’s Saturday Summary. He’s legit. He warned of a monster storm; and that the last half of the hurricane season was going to be one for the record books. He put out initial forecast for the season last winter.
That said, not disagreeing about weather channel!
Joe Bastardi was a local forecaster here in central NC 20 years ago. He was the only one who was right in warning about our 2005 ice storm that crippled the area for an entire day and night.
He’s legit, as long as he can hold on to his moral compass… The hgher up one goes, the harder it can get.
YES!!!!! 👍
Yep – I got the spidy-sense from the beginning that this “Cat-5 storm of the century” was being exaggerated.
To Marcia the former Magistrate: Have you heard from your cousin in Clearwater?
Waiting to hear updates from everyone. Anyone from Merritt Island?
My brother is about 20 minutes north of Merritt Island and said they lost power last night but no serious damage. Sister in Jacksonville, same story. We’re in Polk County, similar story but no loss of power.
Good news – thank you. My brother is on Merritt Island and apparently is without power or cell service this morning.
Merritt Island is so exposed. Have not heard from friends there yet. Coms might be slow. Good to know.
Heard from friend Merritt Island and good report: very little damage, no loss of power or cell coms. Really good report and he sure was thankful for prayers.
Wow that’s good news. Thanks for the updates. Jacksonville often gets hit hard. Heard a lot about Polk County so your news is good news. No loss of power. Lovin’ “alligatriot”…
My niece in Jacksonville, FL said they got a little rain and wind but nothing to bother about. Just a Florida rain storm. Prayers for those on the West Coast affected.
Lost power at ranch just east of Ft. Meade.
I have two friends in Merritt Island. Both are OK and have power.
Family in condo complex on beach in Cape Canaveral are ok and have power.
Hi Txazz,, I’m not Marcia, but she posted a fairly positive update on another thread:
Retired Magistrate here: Just heard from my cousin in Clearwater, Florida who was unable to evacuate due to his medical conditions. He stated that Clearwater is a mess; roads are flooded, trees and power lines down everywhere and he probably won’t have power for a month. He has congestive heart failure along with numerous other issues so he is hoping for cooler weather because it is easier on him.
He has a lady who checks on him but she can’t get to him due to flooding. He has a third floor condo and is bedroom carpet is wet, but other than that his condo is OK. So very happy to hear from him. Probably won’t hear from him again until he gets power back; he has a land line. He called me on his emergency cell phone with a limited number of minutes.
Thanks be to GOD my cousin survived!
God answered the prayers of the people.
“The worst-case scenario did not unfold” … “Milton began falling apart at the coast.”
so, the weather modification gurus didnt complete the project? Yes, I have a tinfoil hat.
God is in control nowadays and will listen intently, particularly when huge mobs of Americans of good will and especially good intent from coast to coast all feel the urge to pray deeply at the same time period.
Things are gonna get BAD.
Big big big BAD .
Don’t lose it. Stay calm and composed
Best prayer when True Calamity Afflicts A Nation is do sincerely repeat again and again and again like you would a mantra
THY WILL BE DONE
…. and really mean it.
All Hell will break loose in America when our special forces do the final mop up of the Evil Ones and Evil Doers.
Practice until it feels natural and obvious any you truly desire the true Will of God to manifest.
Try it, before we need it.
Practice makes perfect
And of course: YMMV
Almost the exact words of my prayers, “Milton began falling apart at the coast”! I prayed as I watched it make landfall and asked the Lord to weaken it quickly and tear it apart! Praise His Holy Name!!
God bless you!
Amen!!! Yes He most certainly did!!! All the glory to Him!
All Glory to You, Father God, praises and thank you to Your Holy Name!!!!
Amen and thanks Pamela for your beautiful words.

Perfect post Gipper….
Our Lord spared our lives and home last night and we are so grateful and rejoice in His name.
Lots of neighborhood clean up to do but most have fared well.
Thank you Jesus!
“Fuel outlets are a priority. Fuel is the lifeblood of recovery”
Indeed, it is! I suspect this is the reason Marxists/Communists want complete control of that fuel and want us driving electric cars.
I am thankful prayers were answered and this wasn’t, “the storm of the century”.
They rarely are as the outflow is reduced as they approach a land mass. Hype from the weather channel for ratings is the driver. Ad revenue is very big and ratings is the game.
There ain’t any fuel for miles around me..
How are you, Sundance?
Thanks Sundance. I look at it as a drill, and it went well. People know what to expect if they leave, in the future it might make them more comfortable to do so. Hopefully they get back to their houses before the looters. Actually, hopefully they have a special detail and protocols to address and curb looting as part of their emergency response. That must be a reason some don’t want to leave.
It is.
That, and it is soooo much work and very expensive to leave. One argues your life is worth the headache of course. Leaving is stressful, staying is stressful.
I was jut trying to imagine what it would look like trying to restore electrical power to a region without power if all the vehicles were EVs.
Well, duh. Its an EV. You have electric right there. Just plug it and you have power. Or sumpin’ like that. 😜
Not to mention the MUCH LONGER LINES waiting for others to charge up. Lines backing up to freeway/interstate off-ramps, cluttering city streets, intersections……. ghastly to imagine.
Classic Chicken and Egg question. What comes first restoration of power, or electric vehicles to restore power.
Thank you Lord, that the severity of the storm lessened, and thank you that Sundance seems to have come through okay.
Now just waiting to hear from a friend who is in Tampa.
So, I want to send a donation. From the ground, who is getting it to the people in need?
Samaritan’s Purse will likely be arriving within a day or two. I volunteered with them after Hurricane Ian and they are by far the best!
Thank you
Praise Jesus! “The storm began falling apart at the coast.” That is EXACTLY what we were praying for.
Man now has the ability to manipulate the weather, but my God MADE the weather and can do what he wants with it.🙏🙏🙏
Franklin Graham’s organization can be trusted. Already hard at work in NC.

As someone that’s on the opposite side of the country, it appears that DeSantis has been “Johnny on the Spot” and has done the job that a governor is suppose to do. I know that he’s term limited out and is looking to stay in politics and stay relevant so he can run for president in 2028. Is there a senatorial opening for him in 2026?, a democrat that he can run against.
Rubio’s term is up 2028. Scott is up for reelection this year.
DeSantis may join Trump cabinet but is currently top opponent vs Vance for ’28 republican nomination.
Thanks for reply. It sounds like DeSantis is close to reaching that proverbial fork in the road.
Nope. Unfortunately, we have Senator RINO Marc “bubble bath” Rubio. And while Senator Rick Scott has potential, there is likely legacy ‘blackmail’ baggage from his Medicare fraud cases.
Plus, DeSantis’s betrayal of Trump will always hang over his reputation.
He was stationed at Gitmo, and allegedly was amused by the impact of Gina Haspel and George Bush’s infamous Torture Program on the detainees held there. Some of them have been interviewed, at least one has written a book and mention Meatball’s laughter.
I don’t know whether these accounts are true.
But surely white hats in military intelligence do.
So we may learn more about the years that the United States ignored the Geneva Conventions of which it was a signatory.
I’m glad That RS does not condone animal abuse.
“Is there a senatorial opening for him in 2026?”
He had his shot in congress and did not do well. He had his shot for a presidential campaign and did not do well.
Let us remember him for some of the good things (and their have been quite a few) he has done as our Sunshine State’s governor. Let us respect him in memory but let us NOT perpetuate his political aspirations.
Anybody remember the TPP? Ron! Fast tracked it..
Amen to that.
Maybe he could assist Elon Musk in cleaning out FEMA. He’s got first hand knowledge of its corruption and deficiencies
Thankfully, it wasn’t nearly as bad as predicted. The outer wall of the storm fell apart as it approached Florida and there was significant wind shear which helped to degrade the storm. The NHC kept reporting the wind gust strength instead of the sustained wind strength which was not what they should be doing. Milton was being strongly hyped! Anyway, alls well that ends well, says I.
Yep, definitely overhyped.
Hope you don’t mind, I reposted what you wrote yesterday about this, because it’s a perfect retort for a huge facet of scaremongering.
https://theconservativetreehouse.com/blog/2024/10/10/initial-assessment-florida-governor-ron-desantis-gives-briefing-on-hurricane-milton-impact/#comment-11186321
Our local WESH and WFTV in Central Florida had been saying for days that wind shear would do it’s work and Milton should be a 3 at landfall. Those 160 or whatever winds it reached can only sustain itself for so many hours, and Milton was too far out when it reached that intensity to sustain it. The big question was landfall – where and when it hits makes a huge difference.
There were tornadoes before landfall.
At least 19 tornadoes touch down in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton landfall
https://www.nbc-2.com/article/hurricane-milton-tornado-warnings-florida/62561396
These chasers in Punta Gorda speculated about the height of the surge as it was coming in.
“Milton began falling apart at the coast.”
Our prayers helped!!
How relieved I am to see post by you Sundance on this blessed day. West coast time, so y’all have probably been very busy today.
Blessings to all.
Heard wonderful news this morning.
Our late term pregnant niece with her husband and two small dogs who had all made it to a hotel room in extreme northeast Florida received pictures of their home from a neighbor in St. Petersburg who rode the storm out. The pictures showed that other than the boards that they had put over their windows the home survived.
The real storm that will affect all states in America will be coming ashore on election night.
Vote early and vote Trump and Vance and the candidates that Trump is backing.
Hurricane Red!
I heard from family on north side of Tampa. Flooding where it’s never flooded before, not homes floating down river, but rose several inches inside their home. They have a big retention pond adjacent, with land rise between. They went out in middle of the storm to dig a half dozen ditches through land rise so their property could drain. They were in a bowl, street drainage grate needed to be cleared, too, debris blocked it, part of reason they ended up flooded.
No power. But they have generator.
I haven’t read all the comments yet, but I’m hoping to see Joan Carsey. She said she was in a mobile home, I’m not sure exactly where.
But I did hear of a mobile home park being badly damaged.
I’m still praying for you Joan! Please check in when you can!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Still thinking about the Democrat lesbian mayor of Tampa telling Katilyn Collins if you stay in Tampa you will “die”.
Shallow fresh water puddles and small ponds are always a worse threat for this, especially for some of the naster germs, especially in tropical and sub-tropical climates. Sustained higher temps can allow these nasties to fester and linger for weeks and months, and shallow waters can warm up and hold it longer. Cooler temps are a great thing for Floridians in times like this.
Reposting this, from California Joe yesterday. WORD:
“… after living through 40 years of hurricanes in South Florida I can tell you that the NHC has a tendency to overstate both the number and strength of hurricanes. For example, you can actually access the military hurricane hunter reports which report the hurricane wind speed at “FLIGHT LEVEL” which is typically 10,000 feet. The NHC has reported the hurricane wind speed at flight level via misinformation on their warning as the strength at ground level. As you can imagine the wind at 10,000 feet is a lot stronger than at 10 feet. The people who run the NHC and NOAA are climate change true-believers and use every opportunity to hype the hoax including their hurricane reports!”
Guys I used to work with were loosely associated with Air Force meteorological flight crews. Hurricane hunters. This jives with the wee bit I learned over the years.
And NOAA has historically overrated their spring hurricane forecasts. Of course at the end of the season they’ll always say, “Oh sorry, we misrepresented.”
NOT. Their lies go out to the world and stay there.
Again, NOT knocking sensible preparations. Hope for the best but prepare for the worst, every single time.
So, hurricane wind speed is taken at 10,000 feet where there is little atmospheric friction and climate temperatures are taken a few feet above a black top parking lot.
Seems about right…..to get the narrative they want.
Yep.
The real flooding will hit my area in a week when the water drains out of the swamps heading for the Gulf.
I pray we don’t get another storm around then. Other than a few down trees, millions of little sticks and leaves in the yard and losing power, we are fine as frog’s hair.
I checked on my disabled neighbors first thing and other neighbors were already out sawing limbs and grading the road.
Praise Jesus for another chance to do the Right thing!
glad to get your report, cornbread!! so glad all is well!
Prayer works, and God is good!
Interesting how that storm just happened to fall apart as it hit land…
Our HEARTS and PRAYERS are with the great people of Florida!!🙏❤️🙏
Leadership and the epitome of what a citizen should expect from a Governor. I’m shaking my head at the virtual lack of leadership by a government official in NC.
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1844175051832332303.html
Mayorkas is yammering about how “disinformation” is causing flood survivors to not apply for benefits. Of course, the idiot reporter never asked the basic follow up question: How can survivors be influenced by “disinformation” if their communications are severely degraded, if not totally out of commission?
Exemplary professionalism.
Grateful it didn’t turn out as predicted. Well wishes to all those in the recovering process.
” Fuel is the lifeblood of recovery.” Do you think that those dimwits who are wanting to dispense with FF, will re-visit their dependence on FF in their lives, particularly when hurricanes like these last two have disrupted their lives?
No. The dimwits will continue to blame our FF vehicles for the cause of these hurricanes.
Their pretzel logic will twist it into *if we all drove EV’s these disruptions would not occur.
Perhaps Obama’s installation of propane tanks and multiple ocean front properties indicate his true position. Ditto for Biden, Kerry et al.
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/2587831/gaslighting-obama-installs-propane-tanks-at-mansion-while-pushing-green-policies/
Big difference between NC and FL governors responses to natural disasters.
Dodged a bullet. Milton landed 30 miles north of me. Not nearly as bad as Ian. Suffered a ding in my siding from flying debris and we already have power back. With Ian is was 3 weeks and I lost my roof, car port and sun room. Most importantly we had no flooding. Helene was wet. We didn’t get nearly as much rain with this one. Feeling blessed. Happy day!
Very wise advice. Hopefully people will listen and learn.
Thank you, Sundance.
