A survey published in June 2010 revealed that 41 percent of Americans expected that they would see the return of Jesus to Earth by 2050. The same research conducted by the Pew Research Center showed that 46 percent believe “it probably or definitely won’t happen.”

Jesus has promised that He will come again.

 Former president and chancellor of Moody Bible Institute, Dr. George Sweeting, wrote, “One in every 30 New Testament verses refer to the second coming. More than a fourth of the Bible is predictive prophecy. Approximately one-third of it has yet to be fulfilled. … For every prophecy on the first coming of Christ, there are 8 on Christ’s second coming.” 

Jesus warned about indulgence. A Christ-follower is called to live a life of integrity in every respect. “Keep your heart with all vigilance” (Proverbs 4:23).

 Various versions of today’s verse begin, “Be on guard,” “Watch out,” “Take heed,” or “Beware.” The Greek word prosecho is a present imperative command to continually be attentive and give heed.

To obey necessitates continual dependence on the Holy Spirit. Jesus actually gives several warnings in this section of the Olivet Discourse. Watch out, stay awake, pray, keep up your strength. All these are essential for the believer today as the end times draw ever closer. 

Theologian John Piper says, “To be spiritually awake and alert is to be in love with the Lord’s coming.” 

Many are waiting for Christ’s return, but how many are watching? If He should come today, are you ready? Be spiritually aware and attentive. Keep in close fellowship with Christ and walk in the light of His presence with you.

Pray for a greater awareness among believers in America of Christ’s return so that they (and you) may live with greater anticipation.

While at our small town library, I noticed this sign and asked about it.
A “therapy” dog comes regularly to the library; the children, especially, love it.

Those who are learning, or timid, to read out loud, read to the dog, Amber.
She’s a Newfoundland, and the size of small pony. 
Amber sits patiently and listens to the kids read to her.

I’ve never heard of this approach. Amazing how dogs can be trained!
Might go and observe – since I love children, dogs, and reading books.
A great combo…

Poetry is hard for me to read; sometimes it makes my brain hurt.

Recently, I came across some of Mary Oliver’s writings and could actually understand them.
She uses simple, beautiful words and the poem’s meaning is clear.

Here are a few lines from “In Blackwater Woods” from the American Primitive collection:

Yes, I get that … the older I get, the more I’m having to “let it go.”
And, it takes work.

I also remember the words in Ecclesiastes 3:1:

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven:”

God says (verses 1-8) that every activity, every occasion in our lives are “appointed“ times and they will eventually pass.

The Lord understands our heavy hearts when giving up something or someone dear.
And He promises that joy would come in the morning. (Psalm 30:5)
Maybe not tomorrow morning – but it will come.

May we hold on to that Truth.

When I get dogs I usually get 2 of them, not at once but about 6 months apart. My 2 dogs I have now are 2 and 3 years old and I’ve had them since they were puppies. They are Lexi and Patriot aka Riot.

The dogs I had before both died of old age and they were Sergeant Pepper aka Sarge and Major Tom.

The personalities of the two pairs are very similar and when I’m distracted I sometimes find myself calling my current pups by my old dogs names.

Your dogs do stay with you for life. I remember every one I’ve had.

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me. 

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, Amen.

A couple of Thursday observations…

Day four of potassium iodide Lugol’s tincture dosing finds no negative side effects a alertness/energy continues to remain improved and old age aches and pains remain subsided, so far. I’ll continue a few more days then discontinue and note any effects.

Also, 0n the subject of money and the economy, I noted a potential sign this morning that, after predicted perfect weather and a much improved salt crust from the last four years, Bonneville Speed Week finds Day 6 to the pits emptying out, the low and high speed courses consolidated and practically no one on the starting line.

I saw a lot of records broken but, as one contestent interviewed, who was a regular racer but not this year, opined ‘It takes money to be here‘ and left it at that.

If not for some volunteers doing a live stream each day, such observations would’ve gone unnoticed. I’ll. bet there’s a lot of that going on around the country. In fact, at the last NHRA (drag) race in California a few weeks ago, the Top Fuel field wasn’t even filled out; only 14 cars showed up. The whole western swing seemed short on cars.

I mention this because of operating a race car from the late 70’s through the 90’s and following the sport most of my life. It’s a very expensive pursuit, even at the amateur levels.

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
