Savannah is in her first day of online classes. Squeal!!! She has students from Washington State, Texas, Puerto Rico, and CHINA! Can you imagine??? In China, Christians are persecuted and practice in underground churches. This is a Christian online school – so we are delighted by her new friends.
Jay has given me the idea of leftover carnitas breakfast tacos.
To convert over to online school… with Christ honoring curriculum… in the comfort and safety of home… feels like a HUGE BONDAGE BREAKER. We are lighter, happier, and more concentrated.
2nd job starts on Wednesday. Split sleeping schedule works better for me, I slept 7 hours non-stop last night and feel like a SLUG now. Even Harry the Maine Coon is starting to come to me at 4 PM to tell me “it’s time for bed” for 3 or 4 hours. LOL I appreciate his little furry reminder to shut things off and take that time for me. Then the next bedtime is around 3 AM to 6:30 AM. It is doable.
Savannah and I walked 4 miles total yesterday – once in the morning, once in the evening.

I have most excellent news! One of the two MAJOR BARRIERS to Savannah’s new education has been met and overcome effective today. I don’t have to contend with it again until May 2025. (Child Support related – we had a strong risk of losing her support, but it was worth it to me to take that chance anyway. We have to deal with two states – Indiana and Washington and Washington State is not friendly with Christian educators. They do not recognize her schooling, but they recognize my right to homeschool.)
We only have one major obstacle left which will occur within the next 30 days. (Her school records. Let’s see if they force me to have an NDA now with the power of the IAHE – Indiana Association of Home Educators behind me in her withdrawal.)

She loved her first day… and she loves to learn.
For example, we were practicing her driving in a local little cemetary. She hit something and I got out to investigate – it was a limb on the ground. However, I found the most beautiful Cooper’s Hawk tail feather and plumage. The Hawk must have got into an awful fight and a portion of a nest was on the ground.
She grabbed the feathers and did her own forensics. Based on the length of the tail feather, 8″, and the distinct coloration, she determined it was a young adolescent male hawk, likely in a fight guarding the nest. The males are 2/3 the size of the females and their tail feathers are different.
My daughter LOVES to learn. She just wants to learn wholesome things. The Potters School course guidelines are what EVERY PARENT wants to agree to when they are trusting their children to educators.
I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE anyone and everyone looking – to go there. We had Texans, Washingtonians, Puerto Ricans, and Chinese with my Hoosier this morning. What JOY!
Potters School sounds excellent.
Sidebar – My son has taught several young teenage daughters in his neighborhood to drive. Their parents have recommended him to other parents because of the results – none of the girls failed their driving tests on the first try, and so far none of them have had any accidents. Of course he doesn’t charge anything – he enjoys driving immensely) but the students/parents give him “tips” to cover gas & insurance.
He uses his own large vehicles from the 1970s and ’80s to teach. He has a collection of old cars; several limousines among them. He uses an old 1978 Lincoln limo to teach the girls handling and judgement. Once they can handle a full sized mildly stretched Lincoln limo with its long front hood, handling a small modern Honda coupe is a breeze.
He teaches the basics on a large empty parking lot, using the striped parking space lines as guides in “creating” driving lanes and both parallel & perpendicular parking simulations. He has the girls drive backwards thru a slalom to teach judgement and control. There’s a lot more but it is lengthy to describe.
I once had him take me and show me (acting as the student) to demonstrate his unorthodox methods. I was amazed and very impressed with the skills he taught and his very well-reasoned explanation of how they relate to actual driving in contemporary traffic.
Once the girls master handling the large vehicles on the empty lot (forwards, backwards, 3-point turns, parallel parking etc.) , he then lets them drive a more standard vehicle (their own, if their parents allow) for several similar handling lessons on that lot before taking them out on the roads. He says it usually takes them at least a few months of lessons in the empty lot before they get to driving on streets.
His unusually calm and unexcitable, steady nature is why he became so popular in his neighborhood.
Back in “my day” (’60s) we took Drivers Ed. in high school as an elective. It was a very good one-semester course and taught us to employ “defensive driving” techniques at all times. Its a shame that practice was discontinued by the school systems.

Please don’t make me wish we were neighbors. This is very hard for me doing it alone.
We drive the cemetery. We have been driving the distribution center parking lots. I set up four traffic cones and place them just slightly on the inside of the parking space – so that way she’s hitting cones and not parked cars. I make her park a lot pulling in from both directions and now we are starting to learn to back in and use the car’s cameras. (HA… when we were driving we had NO CAMERAS and still hooked up trailer hitches!) When she gets several approaches in a row correct, we move to the next thing. I demonstrate, sit with her a couple times, then totally get out of the car and watch her, so I don’t make her nervous sitting next to her.
There’s the driving, but there’s also the passing of the written exam… which I can’t tell you what scares me more! She doesn’t pass written exams easily and I fear putting her in a $400 driving course only to fail it and have to rinse and repeat, again and again. It’s too costly for us.
So, I made flip cards. She does great with memorization. The flip cards help. I would pay someone $1,000 to take this part off my hands. She isn’t very reactive and would meander out of a burning building… so the idea of her making a defensive maneuver against a semi trailer on the I-65 freeway that heads to Chicago… and is busy as all get out – terrifies me. (Speaking bluntly.)
You can tell your son, I learned how to drive with my military father in a 1976 Impala. In a cemetery where my Mom was buried. I secretly think now, that my father was “showing her” my progress. I was driving illegally at the age of 14 and getting up at 4 AM to take him to work every day.
Tell him I wish he was here and I wish I knew him. He’s doing an incredible public service. May he be blessed for it and may those young ones be all the safer for it.

As for the written exam – All those questions pertain to actual driving situations plus owning and operating a vehicle legally in your state. They should become second nature to the driver.
Here’s how:
In addition to what you’re doing – it all sounds GREAT – prepare a list of maybe 10 selected exam questions on a notepad or in your text app on your smartphone before you take her out for a lesson..
Start with the easiest questions the first time and then increasingly more difficult questions for future driving lessons later on.
Casually ask her each question while she’s driving and privately note whether or not she answers correctly. But don’t distract her if she gets it wrong. Just note it and after a bit, when the next opportunity presents itself (like driving on a straightaway with little traffic that requires minimal skills to control the car while thinking of the correct answer) move on to the next question.
After you both return home – show her the results and let her decide how to review the ones she got wrong. Add those incorrectly-answered questions to the next list along with some new questions for the next lesson. No more than 10 at a time total for every driving lesson.
Do this over the weeks and months and she will eventually be answering those questions reactively out of her head while focusing on her handling and the traffic around her. Repetition & practice makes for virtuosos!
By the time she gets to the written exam, she’ll be replying from established wrote memory, having worked on the ones she initially got wrong in the car.

When Savannah was just a little bit, she made this for me at school. I want to put it somewhere permanently and I think you’ve just given me the idea for it.
I want to be cremated so not in a grave stone. Don’t want to take up real estate. But it would go nicely in our family home that she would inherit… if I can ever afford one again.

Hey what an idea, we have major problems here of Y’all coming into town and dry vin’ with the brights on as we have dark skies laws, and it tis dark around here by LAW, soes Y’all can see some stars in town even.
So very few intersections that have overhead lighting, the karens of the HOA make sure to ticket/fine you put something up that isn’t compliant on your house. All lights must point down … its been 15 years or so, 5 of them to become compliant.
So of course, the government either exempted themselves or are just ignoring all the old lighting in town that is non compliant.
Some places even I am lucky to not drive into a ditch on either side of an intersections as I have old
incandescentnow halogen bulbs on my 92 Sonoma, that still fall short of enough light until you are in mid turn to see.The train horn of light bars!

MGN3 (shiitake mushroom and rice)
may be worth a quick search (immune booster) and to ask oncologists if they know of it / if it would be okay in conjunction with their planned treatment.
Long story short:
About 30 years ago my sister was gifted MGN3 (instead of get well flowers) by a good friend when diagnosed with (estrogen positive) breast cancer;
At least 28 lymph nodes were removed and tested, and a large size tangerine amount of breast.
Her (wonderful) oncologist had no issue with her taking it. She was on aggressive iv delivered chemo; every Thursday for 3 weeks, 1 week break -for 6 months.
Then, radiation.
I swear that MGN3 (and at least 1o large glasses of water a day 😵💫 ( because hydration is so important) helped her ride through … lessen fatigue and nausea and maintained an appetite and strength.
She continued taking it for several years.
It was sold at a health food store
-and then suddenly,
it was unavailable:
FDA pulled the product. Hmm. 🤔
Took some searching to find it again.
-It’s readily available now.
Everyone is unique; as are conditions, but it worked for her!

Now that the anaesthesia is worn off, I have a bit of pain at the site. Removing the bandage tomorrow, but I expect nothing much to see (?).
And I have a follow up appointment in a week to check the results. The doctor has talked it down, but I’m preparing for any possible outcome.

I don’t think I can remember my dad not wearing work boots. Even on Saturday it was work boots and into the garage to work on tractors.
Later this week I go with him to pick up an Allis Chalmers WD45. It needs fenders and a new rim and transmission work, but in my opinion the best all purpose farm tractor ever made.
He still helps me with the haying and work that has to be done on the farm. Last weekend all new belts on the baler.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

I had a 67 Fairlane with a 428 cobra jet engine and 4 on the floor for a while. The stock motor mounts had been replaced with rolled 1/4″ steel spring steel. Got it airborne on Hwy 128 which had some pretty good hills on it back then.

I spoke with my friend who had renal failure this morning. The Super Beets helps very quickly. You should be feeling better within the first one or two weeks. Water and hydration are really important. Rule of thumb for fluids is half your body weight in fluid ounces daily. Liquid IV hydration multiplier is a bit expensive, but it is worth it… especially as you are trying to recover. She and I both often drink warm water multiple times a day. I do mine with lemon slices and she just does plain. Warm water is easily ingested.
The Super Beets comes in a couple of flavors – Wild Cherry or Pomegranate – the Pom tastes like cough medicine to me, but the Wild Cherry is good – but I like the taste of beets, so that’s not a factor to me too much. You can always mix it into a smoothie.

For those following my conversation with Patty, Costco is having a good sale on those LIQUID IV Hydration Multipliers. They are usually really expensive – about $27 for 18 each. Costco has the combo pack – 15 strawberry, 15 golden cherry for $20.99. This is a really good deal. They also have the Yuzu Pineapple energy flavor (with caffeine for those who are implementing that into their diet) for the same price $20.99. Costco delivers for free.
Going into town tomorrow to get the super beets. Went into town this morning to get them but realized water was pouring out of the bottom of my truck so instead went straight to my mechanic. He replaced the water pump and the fan belt. The fan belt was so bad it was amazing it hadn’t snapped yet.
I am bad at not drinking enough water. With the short bowel syndrome drinking lots of water means I live in the bathroom. I will make a super effort to drink at least 6 glasses a day. When I drink 8 a day I literally get up 9 times every night. A few nights of doing that and you don’t feel human anymore. I only weigh 74 lbs now so 6 seems like plenty to me. I can’t see how someone weighing 160 and someone weighing 74 has the same water requirements.

Patty, my functional medicine doctor told me… once you are conditioned to drink the adequate amount of water, your need to urinate will dissipate and she is absolutely right. Plus, once you get it down to drinking sufficient water, if you try to revert back, your body will demand water with thirst.
You are right. Each body is different. So a 100 pound person, 50 ounces of water a day. For you, 37 ounces.

I drink about a Gallon of my version of an Arnold Palmer a day, either Tea & Kool Aid lemonade or Strawberry Kiwi & Tea with sucralose & stevia mix to sweeten, 6ft 200 lbs tho & 80+ temp in kitchen all day.
Up at 7000 ft altitude & <30% humidity your body goes thru water quick (just breathing), lots of lowlanders have issues up here … generally head aches / dizzy when they do not drink enough to hit the head every couple of hours & soda does not count!
Now as for my “syndrome” IBS, my Dr recommended Metamucil but gave me too much gas, used Benefiber instead, totally stable now (15-20yrs) unless someplace I get food from um…. contaminates it, might have to hit Pepto & fiber for short time to stabilize, otherwise I only eat my own prepared food … I think it is all the TVP (<textured vegetable protein AKA SOY>) that is substituted for meat in just about everything nowadays because it is cheaper than real meat … who woulda thunk it.
I did the calculations for daily water – 74 divided by 2 divided by 8 oz per cup and it comes to 4.6 so I am doing ok on water. With the short bowel syndrome I can get really dehydrated really fast so water is something I pay attention to (except I can’t drink the 8 cups of water a day – it’s just too much.)
Unfortunately with the CDiff it specifically says I can’t use immodium. Immodium is the only thing I have ever found that works at all for me. The 2 best drugs for CDiff I can’t take because they are very bad for kidneys so I am taking a drug that kills all the bacteria in digestive tract. I’ve got my probiotics ready to take as soon as I finish the prescription. So hopefully I can get the good bacteria to repopulate before the bad has a chance to take over.
I’ve learned more from you, JWoo, in the past couple of days than I have from all my doctors. I thank you for taking time out of your life to help me. For me, optimism is now the word of the day!
My dear friend, I’ve seen two women suffer through C-Diff. Both with polar opposite results. The one who was living successfully – followed that bone broth plan and gradual integration of solid foods, through first broth, then blending, then building as you build weight. You’ll never be portly, but you can be healthy and you can put weight on. Heart and kidneys go hand in hand and when you’re starving to death, your body starts to feast on itself. You have to give it something else to detract it from your vital organs…

A pure democracy is best described as “two wolves and a sheep voting on what’s for dinner.” IOW it results in a tyranny of the majority where no personal rights or property are secure because a majority can vote to take them at any time.
The very design of our government was intended to eliminate that tyranny of the majority. That is why we have the electoral college and why we have a Constitution that includes a Bill of Rights. Remember that all rights not specified in the Constitution and Bill of Rights are retained by the individual or the state per the 10th amendment.

So, I have ended up 350 miles from where I live, cause thats where I was told to go.
I have a tracheostomy, so can’t talk, but I can write on whiteboard, and my significantly better half is with me.
They tell me I will need chemo and radiation, for 45 days.
So I have been trying to work out whether to stay here for the treatmentbor go home.
Met the oncologist today, and he is an asshat. Found what looks like a good oncology place back home, so will figure out how to get me, wife and truck 350 miles up to NW AZ. when they release me, later in the week.
Its a challenge, and an adventure!

p.s. my oncologist was a real asshat too and so learned to develop a good communicating relationship with my regular GP who has stood up in good stead when the oncologist could barely remember my name! Most doctors now have that messenger capability for sending/receiving questions/answers and so if your GP is willing and able – use that keyboard as often as you need to.

The oncologist is an asshat; but is he good at his job???? I’d rather have an asshat specialist than someone who barely passed his medical exams with a great bed side manner. Save the flattery, bud, you’re not gonna marry the dude. (Hope that made you chuckle a little even with that tracheostomy.)
I don’t want to sound like an idiot here, but how can they tell you that it will be chemo and radiation for 45 days when they don’t have the biopsy results back which come in tomorrow, right? Do they shrink masses with this regimen, whether it’s cancerous or not?
I hope the Mrs. drives. If not, I have a novel idea. Local car dealerships use drivers to move their vehicles all over the country. I wonder if you could go to a local big auto dealer and see if one of those gents could chaffeur you and the wife home and then you pay for his one way ticket back via airplane, bus, or maybe there is another car that needs to go south.
My dad used to do that driving after he retired and another friend does it for a major dealer here in Indiana. They usually have a pool of drivers – I bet someone would be willing to do it and they don’t charge all that much.
I’m weird. I try to find solutions where none seems to exist. I’m MacGyver like that.
Also, those car dealership drivers are background checked and usually good upstanding citizens.

We had a pool of drivers for doing just that .. mostly retired .. to my knowledge never had a problem with ones we used and fairly confident they serviced multiple dealers in Indianapolis, should be groups like that in every major city.
20 years ago it was 100 bucks minimum to run a dealer trade (swapping car for car) for short distances anyway probably way more now.
One of my brothers (multiple) wives was a Semi transport driver … always hitched back once delivered with fellow Semi drivers.
Only problem I see with this is whether insurance companies would prohibit this for dealer car occupancy. Test drive is a good excuse tho. I do not know the hoops nowadays tho to get a test drive used to be no problem or have salesman in car, some would just give you the keys and a dealer plate back then.
