Gospel
The Spirit drove Jesus out into the desert,
and he remained in the desert for forty days,
tempted by Satan.
He was among wild beasts,
and the angels ministered to him.
and he remained in the desert for forty days,
tempted by Satan.
He was among wild beasts,
and the angels ministered to him.
After John had been arrested,
Jesus came to Galilee proclaiming the gospel of God:
“This is the time of fulfillment.
The kingdom of God is at hand.
Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

Amen. Thank you Menagerie.
May our Lenten sacrifices be found acceptable to The Father.
“but when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so your fasting may be seen not by others but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”
What kind of oil and why the secret
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_anointing_oil
How could it be any other way but “Secret”? As long as Our Lord makes an impression upon you that you can acknowledge, I doubt He’d appear with Angels or as a Burning Bush. Our Lord doesn’t need to turn all Hollywood to get the job done!
Also because it is between you and God and is not a human endeavor to show others as if to brag about how righteous you are to the world.
The verse before gives more context for “why the secret.”
“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show others they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 17 But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, 18 so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Don’t look for praise or to impress your fellow man. If you do, you are rewarded for your efforts by man. Make it between only you and God and He will reward you. His blessings are better than any paltry praise from men.
If there were no ‘secret’, there’d be no faith.
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the works of this law.”
Deut 29:29
Now the ‘revelation of the mystery that was kept secret from the beginning of time’ that was revealed to the Apostle Paul that ‘by grace are we saved through faith'(Eph 2:8) ushered in the Gospel of Christ,(for the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. John 1:17) as opposed to the OT law( the handwriting of ordinances that was against us. Col 2:14) of the Gospel of the Kingdom.
We’re not under the law, but we are now under the grace of God. We are not above the law, as so many ‘keepers of the law’ nowadays seem to think they are, nor are we under the law.
“The law is good, if a man use it lawfully” The Bible (go ahead, look it up and see for yourselves if these things are true)
Trust God. Fear not.
David, did you intend that for me, or for Trump Truth above?
Note the scripture above cited by Todd, says “your Father who is in secret” … while God’s plan for the Gospel is now known, the Father remains in secret. The best we can do, per Paul, is to catch a glimpse as through a glass, dimly. Not until we shed these tabernacles of flesh, will we see Him face to face. So we believe in and trust someone we can not see and that pleases the Father because it requires from us the faith He so desires.
With regard to the Law, it is written that if any man is IN Christ, he is a new creation; the old is gone, the new is come. In as much as Christ was perfect in keeping the law, and I am IN Christ by virtue of confession and taking up my cross to follow Him, I too am perfect in keeping the law. To that end, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

All you Hypocrite Socialists who try and hoard everything for yourselves. I can tell you categorically it’s incomprehensible what you’re missing in the grace of Jesus Christ.
Lord Jesus, forgive me my sins. Amen.
John 14:6 — King James translation
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Amen.
Makes me break out in my favorite song from childhood, and still today:
I am the bread of life, he who comes to me shall not hunger; he who believes in me shall not thirst. Noone can come to me, unless the Father calls him.
We frequently sing this as a Communion hymn.
It’s one of my favorites.
John is my favorite apostle!
An old Catholic saying, not supported by scripture…worthy of contemplating…’No one gets to the Son except thru the Mother’.
The Seven Dolors of Mary…
We don’t hear much of her during this Lenten remembrance and am jumping ahead. Bear with me….
But she kept the message of the angel Gabriel close in her heart. As she did the prophecy Simian. No one knows exactly what she knew of, as things unfolded. But at the foot of the Cross, (with John)…seeing her battered Son…the baby she once held and cuddled….
“A sword will pierce your heart”…..
Aggiegirl, the famous exorcist Fr. Ripperger says that demons hate and despise the Blessed Virgin even more than Christ. It has to do with the demons’ pride. Being rational and reasoned beings, said demons accept the authority of Christ as the second person of the Holy Trinity to command and humiliate them because he is their creator and Lord. The demons become extremely incensed, however, that the Blessed Virgin, a mere creature, has won so much glory in heaven that they cannot resist her either.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis.
I love Fr. Ripperger — I listen to him often. Here is a link to one of his talks on Our Lady of Sorrows.
Aggiegirl, I agree!
If you are familiar with the Fruits of the Mysteries of the Rosary, the second of the Luminous Mysteries is the Wedding at Cana, the Fruit of this Mystery is “To Jesus Through Mary”!
Our Holy Mother is VERY important to our spiritual wellbeing!
Mary told us everything we needed to know at Cana: “Do what He tells you”. Four simple yet incredibly powerful words of faith. Contemplate those four words: courage, hope, everlasting life are all summed up if we do what He tells us.
Just incredible and invincible is our faith.
“He must become greater; I must become less.”
John 3:30
Thank you, Menagerie.
James 1:12-18 Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. 13 Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
16 Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.18 Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
God of the baptized, we come to the shores of your presence, reminded that it is here that you cleanse us, restore us, shower upon us, and clean us. Rain down upon us as you reign over us! May your Spirit rest on us. May we, as one body unified at Calvary, experience the blessing and favor of you being pleased with us. Come into this time and space, we pray. Move as only you can. Get the glory, not just now but forever! In Christ’s great name, we pray. Amen.
Blessings and peace be with you all. Amen.
This is the beauty of our house.
I feel Sundance Stillwater and Menagerie (many not mentioned admin and regulars) prepare me for my Battle. My spiritual Holy Spirit yet physical human battle is unfolding before my eyes.
Many things I feel I have betrayed my family by the blind ignorance of my government. Cold anger burning so much it aches like frostbite. I want to do something besides checking voter rolls.
Reading the prayers listening to the music feeling the love and sincerity in comments.
Thank you all.
This education in religion and dare I say Catholicism is not only informative, but inspirational.
The warmth one feels is nourishing.
Cheers!
Great post! Loved the pic!
Lent from lint! Ha ha!
Actually, those are ashes made from Blessed Palms from last year’s Palm Sunday.
The ashes are applied to the foreheads of parishioners and all who wish to come and be reminded,
“Remember Man, thou art dust and unto dust thy shalt return.”
The ashes are placed on the foreheads of people in the form of a Cross, representing the Cross of Christ.
The finest joy it is possible to experience is the joy of loving Jesus Christ, the Father, and the Holy Spirit.
Michael Matt on Martyrdom….seems to fit this time and space

Do not put political comments here. And why in the world would you use profanity? Good grief.
A few people commenting were obviously not raised right. One assumes you are now adults, so go out and educate yourself on how to carry on in this world. Even on the internet, if you have self respect and self possession, you will have standards and deport yourself in a manner showing respect for others.
And then end your post MAGA?
Let me tell you something, most of us, individually, cannot stop what Biden is doing. We can’t defeat the Deep State, not alone. We can contribute, yes, and we can be powerful united . But alone, we are not mighty.
Except in our thoughts, beliefs, faith, words, deportment, and example.
We are one hundred percent in control of how we behave, the example we set, the respect we show. Therein lies our power, every bit of it.
You want to MAGA? Start with yourself.
Amen.
Amen.
“Infinite is Thy vast domain….”…God’s got this!
Thank you, I love these posts. I’m 67, have been a dedicated Christian all my life, attending church every Sunday, raising my family, trying to do good works. But a year ago I felt something missing. I began a study of the New Testament like I had never done before-it changed me. I’m now on the Old Testament. I think the Spirit was telling me to renew myself to the Lord. I love this site and all the sights and knowledge I gain. It has helped me immensely to read your posts as I strive to really know and follow our Lord.
Strive to know Jesus! Are you fully committed to know him? Look at what Paul says as he writes from prison his letter to the Philippians…
Philippians 3:12
Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. (ESV)
Somewhere in your past the gospel of Jesus was shared with you by someone captured up in the robe of Jesus. A seed was planted, others watered that seed and God caused the growth. Why?
Because on the cross Jesus paid your blood debt, and in the grave he surpassed and conquered death; a victory that ends all battles. Jesus Christ, the only Son of God did this for his love for you.
Today, and all the rest of your days think about, and meditate on the words Paul wrote:
“Christ Jesus has made you his own.”
Amen!
We started reciting the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel at the end of mass today per request of our Bishop

One of the greatest Lenten hymns: music by the great symphonist Anton Bruckner:
Text by Venantius Fortunatus :
VEXILLA Regis prodeunt;
fulget Crucis mysterium,
quo carne carnis conditor
suspensus est patibulo.
(The banners of the King fly,
now shines the Cross’s mystery:
upon it Life did death endure,
and yet by death is Life secure.)
Qui vulneratus insuper
mucrone diro lanceae,
ut nos lavaret crimine,
manavit unda et sanguine.
(Who, wounded
with a direful point of a spear,
That He may wash us clear from sin,
a wave (of water) with blood poured out.)
Arbor decora et fulgida,
ornata Regis purpura,
electa digno stipite
tam sancta membra tangere.
(O lovely and shining Tree,
adorned with the purple of the His majesty;
culled from a worthy stock, to bear
those limbs which were sanctified.)
Beata, cuius brachiis
pretium pependit saeculi:
statera facta corporis,
praedam tulitque tartari.
(Blest Tree, whose happy branches bore
the wealth that did the world restore;
the beam that did that Body weigh
which raised up Hell’s expected prey.)
O Crux ave, spes unica,
hoc Passionis tempore!
piis adauge gratiam,
reisque dele crimina.
(Hail Cross, of hopes the most sublime!
Now, in the mournful Passion time;
grant to the just increase of grace,
and every sinner’s crimes erase. )
Te, fons salutis Trinitas,
collaudet omnis spiritus:
quos per Crucis mysterium
salvas, fove per saecula. Amen.
(Blest Trinity, salvation’s spring
may every soul Thy praises sing;
to those Thou grantest conquest by
the Holy Cross, rewards supply. Amen. )
The devout Roman Catholic Joe Biden gave up cognitive tests for Lent.
