From Fox News we get this latest example of the entitlement mentality at work. Charles Rogers, self described “concerned citizen” of Moore County says “We are entitled to more money from the only industry in the county – Jack Daniels Distillery.” He wants the taxes to pay for new roads, bridges, even a new water treatment plant. According to him, since Jack Daniels Distillery has used the town as a back drop and feature in their marketing, the company owes them to the tune of 14 million dollars a year. Seems reasonable. Except for the fact that about sixty percent of the price of a bottle now is in taxes. Read more here.
Rogers goes on to complain about the tourists who visit Lynchburg,
Tennessee to tour the distillery. About 250,000 people a year. Yes, tourism is a really bad thing, that’s why cities all over the country hire expensive advertising firms to promote visits to their cities where people spend money which produces – wait for it – tax dollars. In the same article where this moron calls for new taxes on Jack Daniels, he bitches over the tourists who bring money into the town, and the company he wants to grab another fourteen million from. Putz.
Perhaps I should organize a protest in Mr. Roger’s (that just sounds wrong!) neighborhood. But no, you say – that is private property. Precedent – yes, we have a precedent. It’s called Occupy Wall Street. They are camped out on private property. Surely you must agree that I have the same rights they do. My cause is just! Save the Jack!
