Averting the Subverting

“…there are many…vain talkers…of the circumcision: whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake” (Titus 1:10,11).
 
When Paul warned Titus about vain talkers of the circumcision “who subvert whole houses” with their teaching, that word subvert means to turn something upside down. The prefix “sub” should make you think of the ships that travel under water, and the suffix vert refers to something vertical. So subvert means to turn something vertical upside down.
 
Now that’s an interesting thing for Paul to say about these unsaved Jews, for that was a charge that they were leveling at him. They were saying that Paul and his helpers had “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:5,6). Paul wasn’t turning the world in general upside down, of course, for the world in general was taking little note of him. But when some other unsaved Jews called Paul “a mover of sedition among all the Jews throughout the world” (Acts 24:5), it shows that the only world they cared about was the world of the Jews. That was the world that Paul’s new message of grace was turning upside down!
 
Now here I should point out that saved Jews accepted Paul’s new ministry of grace among the Gentiles (Acts 15:19-29; Gal. 2:9). But unsaved Jews didn’t want their world turned upside down, and they weren’t going to take it lying down! They fought back by teaching the Law, subverting those Gentiles who are not under the Law (Rom. 6:15), and trying to take the world that Paul had turned upside down with his message of grace and turning it upside down again back to the Law. God calls that subversion.
 
Does that remind you of what happened when some Jews first taught the Law to Gentiles? The leaders at the Jerusalem council heard about it and wrote a letter to those new Gentile converts, saying,
 
“…we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, ye must… keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment” (Acts 15:24).
 
The saved leaders of the Hebrew church said, as it were, “We didn’t authorize those Jews to teach the Law to you new Gentile converts.” And they said the same thing Paul says here in our text, that teaching the Law to Gentiles was “subverting” them—subverting their very “souls.” Beloved, it turns the soul of a Gentile upside down to put him under the Law, for he’s bound to wonder why the Law doesn’t work in his life!
 
For instance, he is going to wonder why God isn’t blessing him with good health when he obeys God, as God did for the Jews under the Law (Ex. 15:26). He is going to wonder why God isn’t blessing him with wealth when he pays his tithes, as God did for the Jews under the law (Mal. 3:10). It is sad to think of how the souls of men are still being turned upside down, all because men are still teaching the Law to this day.
 
When Paul adds that they were teaching the Law “for filthy lucre’s sake,” that means they knew better than to teach the Law, but didn’t care because it was profitable. Men do some pretty despicable things for money. Human traffickers prostitute women—and even children—for money. Evil men scam elderly people out of their life savings for money. But there is nothing lower on the face of the planet than religious men who know the truth and teach error for filthy lucre’s sake. So if your pastor is teaching grace, why not encourage him to continue in the message he received from Paul (2 Tim. 3:14)?

Ran across an interesting item this weekend.

Peter Daszak is the notorious Bond villain attached to the WIV who obtained NIH funding to support gain-of-function (GOF) research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).
This is very, very bad.
It was recently revealed that from 2016-2019, the Dept of Homeland Security also funded Daszak to create the “Ground Truth Network,” which was devoted to finding “subject matter experts” who could provide “contextual information pertaining to biologic events.”
In other words, TWO US gov agencies funded Dr. Frankenstein, er Daszak—–NIH to do the GoF studies, and Homeland Security to provide media cover.

Moreover, biosecurity expert (and Trump hater) Richard H. Ebright, who has been pursuing Daszak to track covid-19 back to its origins at WIV, describes the situation this way:

Intel-gathering was the reason behind support for WIV from USAID, but the reasoning was as unsound as the scheme was unsuccessful.

If you ever travel to Spain, by all means, schedule a Saturday morning visit to the guitar shops. In every major city (actually any city that supports a good guitar shop) Saturdays are usually a special time because that ‘s when the really good players often show up to sample the new guitars. This is not a ritual so there are other times at different shops. So, if you want to hear some great music, it might be best to call the shop ahead of time and ask aobut a good time to come hear the music.

In Barcelona Solera Flaminca is one of “those” shops. The videos the shop has been putting up on Youtube are fascinating becajuse it’s pretty clear that the shop attracts players and singers from the local community. They may or may not be successful working musicians. My guess is that more than a few of these guys are not—they are, instead, talented players who just love the music. One thing you can see in these viceos, however, is how the mystical spirit of “duende” appears when the music begins. And once they find the shared experience of “duende” they are in their flamenco moment. And that’s when the magic appears. Enjoy! Oh, and by the way, Spain still has more guitar makers who build true, concert quality guitars than anywhere else in the world. And these guys are playing some great sounding guitars!

I see that Biden is ordering cyber security be improved after the ransomware attack disrupted that pipelines operation. Remember though, voting machines cannot be hacked! LOL!

That is they could not be hacked during the 2020 election but shortly after the 2016 election democrats were very concerned about vulnerabilities in the electronic voting system. CNN hoped everyone had forgotten about this:

TAKE THE INITIATIVE
 
“Add to your faith virtue…” (“Furnish your faith with resolution.”) (Moffatt.) 2 Peter i. 5
 
“Add” means there is something we have to do. We are in danger of forgetting that we cannot do what God does, and that God will not do what we can do. We cannot save ourselves nor sanctify ourselves, God does that; but God will not give us good habits, He will not give us character, He will not make us walk aright. We have to do all that ourselves, we have to work out the salvation God has worked in. “Add” means to get into the habit of doing things, and in the initial stages it is difficult. To take the initiative is to make a beginning, to instruct yourself in the way you have to go.
 
Beware of the tendency of asking the way when you know it perfectly well. Take the initiative, stop hesitating, and take the first step. Be resolute when God speaks, act in faith immediately on what He says, and never revise your decisions. If you hesitate when God tells you to do a thing, you endanger your standing in grace. Take the initiative, take it yourself, take the step with your will now, make it impossible to go back. Burn your bridges behind you – “I WILL write that letter”; “I WILL pay that debt.” Make the thing inevitable.
 
We have to get into the habit of hearkening to God about everything, to form the habit of finding out what God says. If when a crisis comes, we instinctively turn to God, we know that the habit has been formed. We have to take the initiative where we ARE, not where we are not.

Pretty heavy frost here this morning at my place in central Indiana. By Wednesday the frost warnings should end for the year, but who really knows?

PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD

Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.

I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.

I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.

Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.

May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.

With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.

Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.

Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

Tomorrow will be the first time wearing a muzzle, jury duty. Borrowed one from my husband – “Government Obedience Test”. We live in a rural area but his job takes him to the city so I bought him some “compliant” masks, that is the least offensive of them, lol. I’ve worked from home for years and none of our small town businesses ever required masks. I’ll report back tomorrow, should be interesting.
