Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Personal Safety In An Atomic Age
By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam
The neutron bomb, they tell us, will not wreck buildings, but will destroy all life, easily penetrating concrete walls three feet thick. Yet we are also being advised to build fall-out shelters for the safety of ourselves and our families! These can be erected for only a few hundred dollars — obviously not with walls three feet thick!
As General MacArthur once rightly said: “There is no security on this earth.” No man can count on physical safety, for the simple reason that, apart from bombs and death rays, “it is appointed unto men once to die” (Heb. 9:27). The moment we are born we begin the race with death, and death always finally wins.
But physical safety is not most important anyway. It is not so much death that men fear as the thought that death might usher them into the presence of God (Heb. 9:27; Rom. 14:12).
But even this need not be feared if we have “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Rom. 5:1). The Apostle Paul, once a self-righteous Pharisee, came to trust the Christ he had persecuted and now proclaimed:
“This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am chief” (I Tim. 1:15).
Having thus been saved from sin by faith in Christ, he had no fear of death. Indeed, he could say: “For, to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain” and “to depart and be with Christ… is far better” (Phil. 1:21,23).
Why then, should we Christians shudder with fear at those things which are so frightening to others? Our Lord said to His disciples: “I say unto you, My friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do” (Luke 12:4). No, the true believer need not fear, for he is safe in Christ, not only in this life, but forever. “He that believeth on the Son [of God] hath EVERLASTING LIFE” (John 3:36).

Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Romans 14:12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Romans 5:1 ¶ Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
Philippians 1:21 ¶ For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:
Luke 12:4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
To the Reader: Some of our Two Minutes articles were written many years ago by Pastor C. R. Stam for publication in newspapers. When many of these articles were later compiled in book form, Pastor Stam wrote this word of explanation in the Preface:
“It should be borne in mind that the newspaper column, Two Minutes With the Bible, has now been published for many years, so that local, national and international events are discussed as if they occurred only recently. Rather than rewrite or date such articles, we have left them just as they were when first published. This, we felt, would add to the interest, especially since our readers understand that they first appeared as newspaper articles.”
To this we would add that the same is true for the articles written by others that we continue to add, on a regular basis, to the Two Minutes library. We hope that you’ll agree that while some of the references in these articles are dated, the spiritual truths taught therein are timeless.
Garrison, please see yesterday’s Music Til Dawn thread for an addendum.
I read your comments. I knew about the “Music ‘Til Dawn” thread on Youtube and had read the comments awhile back. We’re not alone in being influenced by a radio show. What’s interesting about the DJ’s of that time is that they had a very clear understanding of what we now refer to as “dramaturgy”. They were very skilled at creating a attractive, imaginary space that was their radio performance.
The “Wolfman Jack” scene in “American Grafitti” touches on this—you see the golden-voiced “radio personality” transform into a bearded guy in a cinder-block radio studio at the edge of town. The radio performance then, as now, depended on artifice and illusion. DJ’s of the time, of necessity, genarally preferred to be anonymous.
Like pulling back the curtain on the Wizard of Oz.
Which was anothing great thing about listening on a transistor under the covers. You felt like they were speaking just to you.
Thank you for a memory!!! I haven’t thought about this is YEARS!!! Me and my sister sharing a room when we were 9-12…listening to our new radio on our bedside table at night.. The music, the scary radio plays, the detective plays…
What were those “radio plays” called…I forget!!!
Serials
Here’s a list. Have fun remembering….

Love this one, Garrison. Also check out the version by Mary Stallings.
Linda’s recordings with Nelson Riddle were an important bridge for me from rock and r&b vocals into jazz and swing vocals. I had already learned how to sing rock largely from her, so it was comfy to follow her!
I naver let her politics get in the way of my admiration of her remarkable talent and, especially now that Parkenson’s has taken away her singing voice, her musical gift is the recordings and videos like this she gives to the world.
As I was listening to these earlier, trying to decide which one to post (of course I decided I should post both . . .) I kept thinking of late-night radio in radio’s 50’s and 60’s era. From midnight to six AM, the usual radio audience that program directors cared about was sound asleep. You had to search for ’em sometimes but when you found those smooth-voiced DJ’s playing torch-songs like this, they pretty much defined “cool” for a whole generation of teenagers like me. Then, of course, it all got blown away by rock and roll. Change doesn’t play favorites, but we can always remember what was. Linda was doing just that when, in the 80’s she teamed up with Nelson Riddle to make these three wonderful albums. .

;Another essay I wrote a few years ago:
Another one that I wrote awhile back. Who would have thought that ‘Laffey” was a fighting name?
Short History of US Laffey DD-724 (The ship that survived the most sustained Kamikaze attack of WW II. )
The USS Laffey DD-724 was a Sumner class destroyer built by the famous ship yard Bath Iron works, in Bath, Maine. She was launched November 21, 1943. She was the second US Navy ship the carry her name.
Her predecessor, DD-459 had been sunk during the desperate naval Battle of Guadalcanal. A desperate and near suicidal action where an inferior force of US ships took on and turned back a much more powerful Japanese force escorting the largest reinforcement effort the Japanese would ever make for their forces on Guadalcanal. In that action two US Navy admirals were killed receiving the CMOH. The Laffey in the van (in front) of the US fleet ended up in the middle of the Japanese fleet taking on the Japanese battleship Hiei at point blank range. She and some of her crew lies in Iron Bottom Sound with so many others from both sides that fought in the most sustained ship to ship naval actions in modern naval history in “the Slot” during the long struggle over possession of Guadalcanal. It was by the sacrifice of those US Navy crews and ships that a true turning point in the war in the Pacific was possible. As Admiral “Bull” Halsey said: “Before Guadalcanal the Japanese advanced at their pleasure; afterwards they retreated at ours.”
Upon commissioning on 8 Feb, 1944 the new USS Laffey DD-724 immediately started preparations to join the US Atlantic Fleet in support of the invasion of France. From June 3 till 1 July 1944 she served with distinction in supporting the invasion including engaging German E-boats (Torpedo boats somewhat larger than US PT boats) attacking the invasion fleet and taking part in close in fire support for US invasion troops where she took a single hit from a German shore battery. For her actions off Normandy, France she was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation.
On August 25th, 1944 US Laffey departed Norfolk, VA for transit of the Panama canal on the way Hawaii to become part of the US Pacific Fleet. After extensive training in Hawaii she was assigned to TF-38 for support in the invasion of Leyte in the Philippines. She then supported TF-58 during raids against the Japanese home islands and during the invasion of Iwo Jima.
April 16th, 1945 found the Laffey stationed as one of the many picket ships around Okinawa. The picket ships were positioned in an arc to the west and north of Okinawa roughly 50 miles out from the invasion fleet supporting the invasion of Okinawa. Their job was to provide early warning for any attacks aimed at the invasion fleet and to carry a Fighter Director team of two officers and three enlisted men with special electronic and communications gear to vector in fighter planes to engage the incoming enemy air attacks.
The Laffey had drawn picket station #1 about 30 miles off the north end of Okinawa and the closest to the Japanese home islands which was the most dangerous station of many very dangerous stations for the ships manning the 16 different picket sectors centered around the fleet off Okinawa.
Upon arrival at Picket station #1 on April 14th the ships captian had told the crew to expect to receive heavy Kamikaze attacks and finished his address to the crew with the words “We’re going to out maneuver and out shoot them. They’re going to go down, but we aren’t.” Shortly after that address the ships radar spotted the first “blips” indicating incoming enemy aircraft. By the end of the day 11 Japanese aircraft had been shot down in Sector 1 but Laffey’s guns had remained silent because the Combat Air Patrol (CAP) of US fighter planes had gotten them all before they came within range.
Then on the morning of April 16th the Laffey and crew survived what can only be described as pure hell on earth. At 08:25 radar reported a raid containing “too many blips to be counted” (It was a raid of a total of 315 aircraft of which 165 were dedicated Kamikazes) At 8:30 four old D3A Val Japanese Aircraft of WWII dive bombers split off from the Japanese formation and came at the Laffey. Two came in from forward and two from the rear. The captain ordered the ship to flank speed and “left full rudder” so that his ship was broadside to the attackers. This maneuver unmasked the maximum number of guns to engage the attackers while providing a more difficult target for the aircraft. All four aircraft were shot down by anti-aircraft (AAA) fire with the nearest hitting the water 300 yards from the ship.
Quickly two D4Y Judy dive bombers Japanese Aircraft of WWII attacked the ship each coming in from opposite beams. Both aircraft were downed close in by the concentrated fire of the 40mm and 20mm automatic cannon. However, the second Judy hit the water just 50 yards from the ship. It had strafed the ship as it came in and released it’s bomb and the shrapnel for the explosion caused damage to the ship while wounding several men. Most importantly this aircraft’s bomb destroyed the SG radar needed to detect aircraft flying low over the water.
Then another Val came in toward the port (left) beam (side). It appeared to be intent on crashing into the ships aft (rear) 5″ gun turret. It passed just over the ship grazing the 5″ gun turret and crashed into the water on the opposite side. It killed one crew member. Meanwhile another Judy came in low over the water on the starboard (right) beam and was shot down at close range causing no casualties or damage.
All of the above action occurred within 12 minutes and three minutes later the next wave came. A single Val Kamikaze came in on the port bow managed to strike the ship forward amidships destroying a 20mm gun and it’s three man crew. The aircraft spread flaming fuel all over the forward part of the ship and put two other 20mm guns and two 40mm guns out of action as it’s remains slid into the sea on the starboard side of the ship. This attack holed the deck of the ship and flaming gasoline poured down into the ships forward magazine below. The captian reduced the ships speed and quick and effective damage control and firefighting saved the ship and made her ready for more attacks.
There was little respite. Two more Val Kamikazes struck in quick succession. The first struck aft near the fantail taking out the three 20mm gun mounts and their crews there (extreme rear end of the ship) and sliding forward on the deck into the aft 5″ gun turret before his bomb exploded. The strike spread flaming gasoline over the whole aft quarter of the ship. The second Val came in and struck almost exactly the same spot adding to the conflagration. As the damage control teams and firefighters fought to save their ship a third Val came in from astern. It dropped a bomb right on the fantail that destroyed the control mechanisms for the rudder. The ships rudder was jammed in a 26 degree turn to port and could not be fixed by the crew.
Shortly two more Val Kamikazes came in low from the port quarter (left rear quarter) and both made it through the AAA and hit at nearly the exact same spot taking out the aft deck house and spreading flames all over the aft 1/2 of the ship and trapping crew men in superheated smoke filled spaces below deck where damage control parties struggled to free them.
By now the CAP had arrived and US Marine and Navy fighter aircraft were fighting desperately to help the Laffey fight off the Kamikaze attacks. The US aircraft would follow the attacking Japanese aircraft right down into the AAA fire from the Laffey while the gun crews on the destroyer tried to down the attackers without hitting their own fighter protection.
But the attacks just kept on coming. It seemed the Japanese were determined to make sure that this particular small damaged warship would not survive. As Laffey’s damage control teams struggled to get the situation under control and free trapped crewmen a Japanese Oscar Japanese Aircraft of WWII with a US Vought F4U Corsair fighter F4U Corsair – WW2 US Navy Fighter Plane – History, Specs, and Pictures. on his tail came swooping in on the port bow. The two fighters came in so low that the Oscar struck the yardarm over the Laffey’s bridge knocking the ships flag to the deck below and the Corsair struck a cable supporting the air search radar causing it to fall to the deck. A Laffey signal man from the bridge crew quickly got a new flag and attached it to the mast over the bridge and the Laffey was once again flying it’s colors.
As all of this was going on another Japanese Judy came in from high diving on the port beam with a Corsair on it’s tail. This one was shot down before got to the ship and struck the water 50 yards from the ship. But shrapnel from it’s bomb caused more damaged and wounded several more of the gun crews on port side of the ship.
The next attacker came in high from the starboard side and was shot down by the ships guns relatively far from the ship causing no damage. But then two more Oscars came in on the starboard side with the obvious intent of crashing into the ship. Both were shot to pieces by the Laffey’s guns before they reached the ship.
During a slight lull following this action the Captain made clear to the officers and crew that he intended to continue to fight the ship and not abandon her. Then another Val came in from the stern and dropped a bomb that put another hole in the fantail. This aircraft was not engaged by the ships guncrews because there was so much smoke over the damaged stern they did not see it but it was shot down by Corsair after it’s attack. Then a Judy came in from the port side but was destroyed by another Corsair just when it looked like it was going to make it in to hit the ship.
At 09:20 it as over. The Laffey had been attacked by at least 22 Japanese aircraft, most of them Kamikazes in a space of 80 minutes and had survived. It had been hit by kamikazes and four bombs. Of the crew and attachments of nearly 300, 32 had been killed and 71 wounded. Only 8 of the 28 AAA guns were still operable. The rudder was still jammed and remain so until temporary repairs could be made. The ship was down by the stern with water in the aft.
The Laffey was towed to Kerama Reto ship anchorage near Okinawa where temporary repairs were made. Then she sailed to Saipan where more repairs were made, and then the Pearl Harbor for more repairs until sailing on to pier 48 at Seattle, WA. There she was opened to the public for them to come aboard and view what was already becoming a legend in the US Navy and the US history of arms.
The Laffey was repaired and modernized and went on to take part in the Korean war, and was finally decommissioned for the last time in 1974. Since 1981 the Laffey has been anchored in Charlston, SC at the Patriots Point Museum. Patriots Point – Tour ExhibitsShe is in good company with other great ships like the Aircraft Carrier USS Yorktown. She is the ONLY one of 70 Sumner class destroyers that survives today. She is the only US ship that survives that has battle stars and US presidential citations from both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters of WW II and in fact is the only US destroyer left that served in the Atlantic during that war. And she is in financial trouble. SOS

America is toast…
Because Garrison posted Linda R, it occurs to me that many here might enjoy this one by Eva Cassidy.
She wasn’t known until after her untimely early death. A great talent.
Just got Eva’s CD for Christmas!
Garrison, I’ve had Eva’s “Songbird” CD for some years now. Love every song but am especially fond of “Autumn Leaves.”
Jeremiah 4, 5 the complete chapters.
It describes what we have now, here in America. Judgement!
I see a nation of Christians, praying, believing, and I hear our Lord saying “speak it out, speak my word”.
We have a man, just a man, who we put our faith in. Never before in my lifetime have I seen such support for a president, a man.
The one thing that pulls all heaven into this fight is President Trump speaking before all the nations Gods word of victory. It’s his to pronounce or decline. I do believe that.
What he decrees, what he speaks in Christ, meaning the word of God, the Bible, will prevail.
If he speaks what the enemy speaks, he will receive what the enemy has decreed on us all.
It must be so, he must not speak defeat. Every ear is listening, he is for all intents and purpose our king, and his leadership goes well beyond
his presidency. Victory has already been achieved and this time is a time of revival.
Not to mention the work he has done in the Middle East! Who would ever have imagined it possible? Him.
Dear Lord, please continue to guide us and give us courage to fight and conquer this evil perpetuated by satan. Many countries stand with us in your light, to work according to your purpose. Amen
HOW CAN I PERSONALLY PARTAKE IN THE ATONEMENT?
“But God forbid that I should glory save in the cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ.” Gal. vi. 14
The Gospel of Jesus Christ always forces an issue of will. Do I accept God’s verdict on sin in the Cross of Christ? Have I the slightest interest in the death of Jesus? Do I want to be identified with His death, to be killed right out to all interest in sin, in worldliness, in self – to be so identified with Jesus that I am spoilt for everything else but Him? The great privilege of discipleship is that I can sign on under His Cross, and that means death to sin. Get alone with Jesus and either tell Him that you do not want sin to die out in you; or else tell Him that at all cost you want to be identified with His death. Immediately you transact in confident faith in what Our Lord did on the Cross, a supernatural identification with His death takes place, and you will know with a knowledge that passeth knowledge that your “old man” is crucified with Christ. The proof that your old man is crucified with Christ is the amazing ease with which the life of God in you enables you to obey the voice of Jesus Christ.
Every now and again, Our Lord lets us see what we would be like if it were not for Himself; it is a justification of what He said – “Without Me ye can do nothing.” That is why the bedrock of Christianity is personal, passionate devotion to the Lord Jesus. We mistake the ecstasy of our first introduction into the Kingdom for the purpose of God in getting us there; His purpose in getting us there is that we may realize all that identification with Jesus Christ means.

Found this really well written article on the worldwide changes this global ‘pandemic’ is causing which brings to life the image of that new world Sundance often shares (from the Hunger Games movie). Also find it excellent in that the author provides links within the article to the sources of his observations.
https://www.thebellows.org/the-great-covid-class-war/
Well dang. leave it to me to find an article that makes the same points that many on the ‘right’ have noticed about this planned re-arrangement of the haves-have not’s turns out to be from an openly Marxist online magazine.
Still, the points being made are what we’re seeing are being seen by everyone regardless of their political bent, as long as folks are willing to not look away. But wanted to let people know the source, so apologize for not digging further before sharing, though, this article does make astute observations (in my opinion, so add the grains of salt as needed).
It was just an accident people. Nothing to see here, move along.
But, you might want to get your prescription for HQC filled sooner rather than later.

I always wanted to visit Venice Beach C a. just once. Never going to happen. The scary thing is all the people leaving will take their destructive political ideologies with them.
I grew up in SoCal and walking the strand in Venice Beach was always a show. There is always something going on in Venice Beach.
I love science fiction writers!!! They use logic and imagination to project “what if” scenarios! They push us to think if these scenarios could actually happen and then what… Many of our very best science fiction writers now seem to be prescient…”We are living in the world they predicted!” We really are not. These are themes as old as man. They happened in the past, they are happening now and they will happen in the future. And the challenges will be met as they have always been, past, present and future, by good people who will not bow to Utopia, because they know Utopia does not exist, at least on this Blue Marble.
I do not particular care for Mr. Stone, however, this report is rather compelling:
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2020/12/exclusive-roger-stone-special-counsels-redacted-justice/
Not a fan of Roger Stone’s either, but the whole kangaroo court thing is beyond gross. This little tidbit caught my eye:
“Loose cannon Aaron Zelinsky isn’t the only one who lied under oath. When Steve Bannon’s House Intelligence Committee testimony was declassified we learned that his testimony at my trial in which he was Mueller’s star witness was directly contradicted by his sworn testimony before the House Committee. In fact George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley who reviewed both transcripts told the New York Post ““There does appear a glaring and irreconcilable conflict in what Bannon stated in testimony before Congress and the court. What is striking is that this was not a peripheral point but one of the main areas of inquiry.” Turley said. “He (Bannon) has two diametrically opposite sworn statements in a high-profile controversy with dozens of attorneys in attendance,” Turley noted.
Additionally federal prosecutors had an obligation under the law to inform us that Steve Bannon was actively under investigation and knew this to be the case at the time that he offered false testimony against me. The prosecutors in my case who were well aware of the discrepancies between Bannon’s house testimony and his testimony understand my trial knowingly suborned perjury”
Meh. Sounds like two grifters with a grudge against each other. Will Bannon respond on the War Room? Will Roger Stone get a pardon? Stay tuned for the next thrilling episode of As Trumpworld Turns.
And here’s the next thrilling episode: Trump has pardoned Roger Stone, Paul Manafort and the vile Chuck Kushner.
And here’s the kicker: Kevin McCarthy and the Republican’ts have blocked $2,000.00 payments. “$2,000 payments have no support among Republican lawmakers.” After shutting businesses and locking people down and allowing the burning and looting of cities.. So glad I went to no party affiliation. But, plenty of money for their cronies and the lobbyists. I hope McCarthy and his buddies take it in the shorts from a herd of diseased rhinoceroses.
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/pelosi-and-schumer-agree-trumps-demand-2000-stimulus-checks
It’s one of the reasons I won’t listen to Bannon’s war room show despite many Treepers endorsing it.
The man lusted for personal political power at the expense of other trusted aides once he was inside President Trump’s White House. That’s why he was booted out. I cannot take him seriously no matter what. I understand others like him, fine

My apologies to Sundance, but Rush Limbaugh has always been the person who has always been a couple of steps ahead of me in the understanding of what I observe. Rush signed off today and it sounded like he was unsure if he will be able to sign back on again. What a time for Conservatives to be losing this man. I believe he is the greatest and I am sad. God will be getting the best of us, just at a time when we need Rush the most.
Like in the movie “Open Range”, I am not inclined to be speaking to God right now, because He is taking such a treasure from us.
I think Rush knows he won’t see another Christmas. He has always taken the last show before the Christmas break every year to thank his audience for their patronage and support.
He was doing exactly that today with the added note, as Rush so aptly put it – he has an expiration date. Unless he goes down very quickly between now and January 2 (when he would normally be back on the air), he will likely return then for however much longer he can perform to his high standards.
Until then we can send him our prayers and email him message of love and support, as each of us sees fit.
I wish I could buy him an adult beverage and enjoy a cigar with him…………
Best time to wait on our Lord is when you don’t understand. One thing for sure he can be your savior or your judge. He’s my savior, childlike faith works.
I support Rush, however, I didn’t when he supported NAFTA………everyone forgets that. In the beginning he was hesitant about Trump but he got on the train earlier than most. What he is now facing has got to be a total shaking. I pray he knows and believes in the God of Salvation, the God-Man, Jesus our Messiah.
lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
Hope I found it soon enough…. 🙁
Just in time. Thank you. 🙂

Amen.
Amen. And Lord please shelter snd protect General Flynn and his family, and all Patriots and freedom loving people around the world.
Amen.
Not sure if anyone else had seen this segment this morning, had turned on the FBN Maria Bartoromo show this morning, (yes Fox but she is the last of their shows I do still watch) and she was interviewing what she thought was the new CEO for Smithfield hams and the more I listened to this guy talking the more I was saying to myself to never buy any food with that label; and
then I got up after that interview was done, did a deep internet dive and wrote down the name of every single brand that is under the Smithfield label to never ever purchase any of that food –
turns out, she, and her audience, were being punked by an animal rights activist. Still going to hold off purchasing anything under their various labels for a while, it was that shocking.
I was so busy doing the deep dive into that company and their brands I missed her clarification at the end of her show, the poser was that compelling!
So glad she was able to discover the problem so quickly and make a statement. Even during the interview one could see her thinking “why is this man saying these things, he’s literally killing their business???”
This is the Hill article that explains what happened:
