In Part I of this series, we concluded that sin is any thought, word, or deed that intends or results in any human being perceived as less than human, or any failure of word or action that results in the same.
Sin, then, moves in two directions: Inward, where the sinner degrades them self, and outward, where the sinner degrades another. Any given sin can be one, the other, or both. In fact, I would add, that every sin degrades the self– some also try to degrade others.
An important, related idea, is the difference between a thing that is immoral and sinful, and a thing that is illegal. The government only has legitimate jurisdiction over those actions that are both immoral and directly, physically effect a person aside from the person

committing the act. Murder, being a violation of another’s right to life, is therefore illegal as well as immoral. Gluttony, on the other hand, is immoral but not illegal. Society can then prevent the indirect effects of gluttony by making it socially unacceptable to be a glutton. Or, more severely, a society may make a thing taboo. For instance, use of a certain word beginning with the letter N is taboo– but it is not illegal, as it legally falls under the protections of the First Amendment. This fact is flaunted by various rappers and “urban artists”– but the taboo nature of this word is not weakened, because there is a general understanding that use of this word is an attempt to degrade the person being thus referred, and does in fact degrade the person using it. This is why the society’s ability to shame individuals is important. Yes, sometimes the society is later believed to be wrong on given matters– but this ability to influence indirectly harmful behavior without resorting to government powers is a very important element of self-governance.
The best way to flesh out this idea is to look at current examples of people treating themselves as beasts, or treating others as beasts.
Inward Sin: People Treating Themselves as Beasts
Let’s warm up by quoting wholesale from Ann Barnhardt, who writes on the Rap/ Hip-hop culture:
What you just heard was pure evil. What you just heard must be fought against and, with God’s help, exterminated from the face of the earth. What you just heard contains absolutely no beauty, goodness or truth – only ugliness, sin and lies. It has no redeeming qualities, and can do nothing but damage and corrupt those who listen to it. What you just heard is a clear and present manifestation of satan running free in the land. The rapper’s voice sounds demonic. The beat and sonic accompaniment sounds demonic and hellish. And where to begin with the lyrics? Every single sentence is either talking about horrific sexual objectification, murder, extreme pride (braggadocio) or extreme materialism. There are also several instances of blasphemy, wherein the rapper calls himself “god” and remarks about women kneeling before him (performing a sex act) as if they were in church. This is the mainstream, contemporary rap/hip-hop culture in the United States. The vast, vast majority of black Americans under the age of 50 listen to rap/hip-hop like this on a regular basis, and many other people of all races listen to it too. How do I know? Because this “Lil Wayne” person, and scores of others like him are eight and nine-figure millionaires. His product is being consumed at a massive rate. Why does this matter? Because the evil twin towers of rap/hip-hop and government welfare are destroying the black culture, and by extension and spillover the broad culture, and by extension the broad economy, and by extension western civilization. Don’t think for a second that this filth has no effect on you on your ranch in rural Nebraska. Let’s think this through.Over the past 30 years, rap/hip-hop culture has conditioned many black Americans (and others as well) to actively disdain education, work, honesty, integrity, personal responsibility, generosity, humility, marriage, fatherhood and human life. If you think I’m making generalizations, GO BACK AND WATCH THE VIDEOS AGAIN. Young black boys and men grow up believing that the only worthwhile endeavors are basketball and/or football, dealing drugs or rapping. They are taught materialism on a level never before seen in human history. Bentleys. Multi-million dollar mansions. Gold and diamond capped teeth. Gold and diamond- crusted jewelery. Any job or vocation that yields less than the exorbitant wealth showered upon rappers, drug dealers or professional athletes is rejected in favor of a life of complete sloth subsidized by the welfare state. They are taught that sex is a perverse contact sport consisting of merely slapping pieces of human meat together in various ways in order to achieve orgasm. The black family in the United States has almost completely disappeared. Illegitimacy rates in the cities are now in excess of 90%. Most urban black youth have never, ever heard or been taught that sex is limited to marriage. Let me say that again: most urban black youth have NO IDEA that sex is limited to marriage. Most urban black youth have little or no personal contact with marriage or even monogamy. The concept of a father being present in a household is completely foreign. And just today it was reported that in New York City, 41% of all pregnancies end in abortion. Among blacks in NYC, the figure is a jaw- dropping 60%.They are taught that drug use is desireable and normal, and that drug trafficking is just a means of making easy money.
As a result of all of this, in combination with labor unions and a general rejection of Judeo-Christian morality by all people, we are now staring down the barrel of a total societal and economic collapse as engineered and executed by Marxist elites over the past 50 years. The welfare and entitlement state has reached critical mass. The entire system is about to implode, and it will take ALL OF US with it. Because our culture has been reduced to an animalistic self-absorption, this collapse will not be like the Great Depression. Men will not take any job they can find to support their family – because men stopped supporting their families decades ago. Men will not take any job they can find in order to feed themselves, because men have been conditioned to believe that honest work is for “suckas”.
At this point, some of you reading this may already be feeling very uncomfortable with what I have just said. You may be thinking me “racist” and “bigoted”. Of course you are. You have been conditioned your whole life to have that reaction. Did you watch the Evan Sayet video posted last Sunday? (Posted Below) What did Sayet say? We have been conditioned to believe that any statement of truth, rooted in direct observation and objective evidence MUST be “bigoted”. We have been conditioned to believe that anything that discerns between two or more options, and determines that one option is superior or inferior to any other option is an act of evil, which is named “discrimination”. We have been conditioned to believe that the only morally acceptable stance on anything is complete indiscrimination – in other words, ANYTHING GOES. According to our culture, if I watch the videos above and discern with my powers of observation, reason, intellect and transcendent universal morality (called the Natural Law) that they are, without a doubt evil, then the problem is with ME. I am the evil that must be eliminated. I am the stumbling block to a utopian culture. If I would just sit down and shut up and embrace evil, then there would be no conflict in the world. By engaging in rational thought, I am perpetrating a hate crime. The only way for me to be a “good person” in this world is for me to utterly abandon Reason and Truth. And as I have stated many, many times on this blog, Reason and Truth are a Person, and His Name is Jesus Christ. Oh, yes. Satan is most assuredly afoot in the land.
If you are still feeling latent guilt about criticizing the rap/hip-hop culture, I would invite you to simply defend it. Go back to the two videos above and find me ONE example of virtue, goodness, selflessness, generosity, humility or LOVE. Go ahead. DEFEND IT. Defend pure satanic evil. Tell me about “diversity”, “cultural differences”, “artistic license” and “tolerance” whilst defending and justifying this:
“Diva in the room, she blowin me just like a band horn / Got her on her knees, the same knees that she be prayin on.”
Tell me who the racist is: me, or a man who proclaims, “I am not human.” My God, what more do you need? What more is there? Satan has these people denying their own humanity. I’m trying to reassert and proclaim the humanity and infinite dignity of Lil Wayne and everyone who listens to him. Lil Wayne IS A HUMAN, made in the image of God. God made the universe so that He could create and love Lil Wayne. Christ went to the Cross with Lil Wayne’s face in His mind, and “Wayne” on His lips. Yeah. Jesus that hateful bigot.
. . .
My final rebuttal [against potential charges of racism] will be in regards to the abortion holocaust. In the cities today, more than half of all black children are murdered by their own mothers before they are delivered. Abortion is obviously being used as contraception. Over the past 40 years, nearly 20 million black human beings have been murdered in utero in the United States alone. This means that there should be at least 20 million more black people in this country than there are today – and that isn’t counting the children and grandchildren that would have been born to those aborted black Americans by now. It is a geometric progression. I mourn those lost souls. I mourn the lost potential. This country would not be in death throes that it is in if those children were alive today. If our culture valued human life and thus prevented those children from being killed, God would still be shedding His grace on us. If our culture valued human life, then the rap/hip-hop culture would not even exist. It would have been consigned to the dustbin of history by a collective moral action of the people long ago, and almost all black children would be born to a mother and father, united in marriage, just as they were 60 years ago. One of the objective proofs of the brokenness of our culture is the fact that there aren’t nearly as many black people in our population as there should be. Now, what was it you were saying about Ann being a klannish racist?]
I classify this under Inward sin because the Rapper (lil Wayne or whomever), like any
other “artist”, can either represent the way things are, or the way things should be. Once upon a time, artists defaulted toward the latter, working on idealized forms, striving for perfection, with the goal of bringing more beauty to creation. Sometime in the Romantic era, however, this changed, and artists started shunning beauty, aiming now for “realism”. These days, the kids call it “keeping it real.”
So, every time a rapper opens his mouth, he is proclaiming “This is who I am.” By proclaiming himself to be this prideful, arrogant, sex-obsessed and women-degrading beast, the rapper degrades himself. Yes, he also degrades his listeners, and any real person he raps about. In his self-degradation, then, he pulls down the entire community about himself.
Likewise, as Ann points out, those who voluntarily listen to this mess, who mutter along the words in time, or who adopt any part of it into their lives– they too degrade themselves, they proclaim with the rapper “This is who we are”. The men proclaim themselves to be like the rapper, the women proclaim themselves to be just like the women he raps about. There is nothing redeeming in this, nothing that improves the world in any way.

This is not to say that rap can never be true art, can never contribute positively to the world. It just generally doesn’t. I have one track on my ipod that is rap: Eminem’s “Loose Yourself,” from the 8 Mile Soundtrack. This is essentially a rap about a man trying to use what gifts he has to pull himself and his children out of poverty. This rap says “I am better than my circumstances, and my children are worth more than all my fear and false pride.”
When Eminem is the best hope for your “art” . . . you got problems.
+ + +
A horrible, stomach turning example of how far some people will blithely degrade themselves (and consider it fun!), comes to us from The Anchoress: People knocking back horse . . . er. . . semen . . .
Think about that (but, not too much if you’ve eaten recently). How far gone must you be, how much must you loathe your existence that you would do such a thing to yourself, and then convince yourself that you liked it? Ew, ew, ew!!!
__________
I would like to take a moment to point out that Pride and Self-Degradation are never found without the other. The instant once says “I am God”– that is the instant they deny their humanity, and thus it is the instant they plunge themselves into the abyss. This is what happened to Satan– the very act of declaring himself “greater than that [recognizing his place in God’s creation]”, he demonstrated that he was, in fact, less than that. This is the constant pattern again and again in history. Anytime a person believes that they know better, that they are better, better suited, etc. . . their very hubris proves their words wrong. Every person who says “I know what’s best for you” (save for family members to family members) utters a self-defeating sentence. Anyone who doesn’t know you personally (and for some time), and says “I/ we will take care of you, we know what’s best for you . . .” is a liar– either to themselves, you, or both.
This is the number one sign of outward sin– treating others as beasts, as cattle. Whether harming, or “trying to help”– the instant a person becomes less than themselves in the eyes of another, sin takes over. Likewise, the instant a person thinks of themselves as the cowboy to help guide the cattle– any effort they undertake is undermined by serious sin.

I would point out that for the first two stories at least, the perpetrators could claim “Good intentions.” Well, we all know what good intentions pave, right? Because when you “know better” than the people you’re dealing with, all the good intentions in the world aren’t worth a damn. You have elevated yourself in your mid above those whom you “know better than”. Thus all your “good intentions” are simply a self-righteous version of Pride.
The recent revelations about Project Fast and Furious show what horrors a government will commit in the name of “protecting people.” Border guards, Mexican Police and Mexican soldiers are known to have been murdered as a direct result of this project. Foreign elections and governments have been subverted, all so that the government could have an excuse to tear apart The Constitution, and impose an Unholy Tyranny upon the people of the US. This is pure evil, and must be rooted out to the last ends and all of it exposed to the sunlight.
People behaving like animals, or worse:

Flash Mob Violence (one example of many):
https://theconservativetreehouse.wordpress.com/2011/06/27/flash-mob-violence-worsening-spreading Every teacher knows that if you expect people to act like animals, they will behave like animals. This is the result of decades of telling black kids that the world owes them everything, while also telling them that they cannot achieve their dreams because doing so is “white.” Black youth have been treated as animal by their own “community”– of course they will now display this behavior. What did Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton think would be the result of their words and actions?

In a more general sense, this is why Marxism and any form of Communism and or Socialism are not just continual, predictable failures, but also sinful. The very nature of these systems/ philosophies, degrades the individual. Some may argue, “But what about convents? Monasteries? Isn’t everything held in common in those cases?” This is a stupid comparison, for the following reasons:
1) The vows are voluntary. Every individual who takes them, does so of their own free will. And if circumstances change, people can leave their order. They can leave religious life. It generally isn’t done, simply because such a need is so relatively rare. But, it is possible to get dispensations. God sometimes has (to us) convoluted plans.
2) Each nun, sister, brother or monk remains an individual before God. Shelley the Girl Next Door may change her name to Sister Mary Immaculata of the Incarnation, but she is still an individual woman before Christ. Her sins are her own, her salvation a matter between herself and her God, no matter how much support or assistance she may receive from her sisters and brothers in Christ. She may work in the kitchens and gardens to help the community, she may sew and clean and pray with everyone else. . . but her salvation is hers alone. Nor can she earn salvation for her sister. There is no collective salvation, not even in the convent.
3) All of this is done under the assumption of a Divine Being watching and guiding them on their way. Not a president, or a premier, or even a Papa Benny in Rome. The capo of every order is Christ Himself, with Pope and Abbot and Mother Superior all filling in as stewards to fuss about with the paperwork while the Big Guy takes care of the real work inside every member’s heart and soul. So, while it may appear that they live in a somewhat “socialist” fashion, it’s really more like a bunch of . . . well, a bunch of students voluntarily pooling resources to go study with the top guy in their field. For life.
Arg, as I was saying, this denial of the individual is why these systems not only do not work, they can not work. Ever. At least as long as you’re dealing with humans. Their basic premise is anti-human. They buy into a commonly assumed, but still false, dichotomy. Anyone who knows their Star Trek movies knows about the “conflict” between the good of the one, versus the good of the many.
Goodness, even Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter books fell for the “Greater Good” nonsense spouted by the then-Dark-Lord-Grindelwald. This is foolishness, to assume that these two “goods” are at odds.
Rather, the Good of the One is the Good of the Many. If I may harken back to my studies in Alchemy. . . Quod est inferius est sicut quod est superius, et quod est superius est sicut quod est inferius –as within, so without, microcosm and macrocosm. One is many, and many is one.
One cannot secure the good of the many unless one starts by securing the good of the individual. To try to go about it the other way– to secure the Good of the One by securing the Good of the Many, one reduces humans to cattle, to herds. Humans are not naturally herd beings– when humans do act as herd beings, the worst aspects of humanity reign. We are best when we are individuals who voluntarily create packs bound by love, respect, and even blood sometimes. Secure the Good of the One, and the Many will follow all on its own. This is how you save the world, and why no government of humans can ever do anything to improve the human situation– only individuals can.
In part III, I will address the question of what to do about what has been discussed in these past two posts.
