President Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump has been a long-time activist in the dog rescue community. During a charity event for Big Dog Ranch Rescue being held at Mar-a-Lago, President Trump walked in and made a surprise visit. The audience cheered with a standing ovation.

Simmons, jarred by images of the China dog meat market trade, is trying to launch a rescue mission to remove over 500 dogs from the country by cargo plane.

Some people straight up don’t care for dogs. I tolerate my husband’s Jack Russell, and even play with him, but I don’t like dogs in general. I prefer cats, if a pet I must have, but overall I’d rather devote my time and attention to my children.

He presented a great “image”. Unless he was photoed on or coming off the golf course, you never saw him dressed in anything but a suit & tie. He was always the “businessman” 24/7.
Our president is not a deceiver so if he didn’t want a dog why have one just to appease those who need to see a weak man vs a strong one. I for one would not want to see a soft image on President Trump. I can tell that he has a big heart and quite soft to be honest.

Even though he doesn’t have dogs, President Trump is probably better with dogs than the Bidens. Their dog was sent back to Delaware for biting someone in the White House. I don’t know if he was destroyed or not. On Valentine’s day, the one dog didn’t like Jill petting him. He flinched.
Biden claimed he grabbed his dog’s tail when he fell in the bathroom before the election. They use their dogs as props. As a dog lover, the Biden’s have given me the creeps for a while regarding their dogs.
NJ, I agree. There is nothing in either the husband or wife, that indicates true love for canines. The dogs know it and so do other dog lovers.
Active in dog sports, I know Shelties and Golden Retrievers mostly, so IMHO, the behaviors described, related to these two dogs, are that of two dogs mismatched with owners/lifestyles.
I also suspect they were not obtained as “pets” or “companion dogs”. Rather, they were probably obtained for guard dog purposes and are not fitting in with the lifestyle suddenly thrust upon them (dogs and the owners). And they, the dogs, are stressed. They are no longer doing what they were bred for nor adjusting on a human timeline, for their change of lifestyle. That adjustment can take months as most rescuers know.
I further suspect that the dogs do not have a strong bonded relationship with the owners.
Sheepdogs, Shepherds, Bird dogs, Retrievers, etc need to do what they were bred for.
I no longer believe the tale about falling in the bathroom and grabbing the dog’s tail. There is much more, I am sure. Where is Peta when you need them…LOL

I am sorry to say it, but these people who think they “rescue” dogs from China are imbeciles. Too bad Trump gets to be associated with these idiots.
In the US, dogs in shelters are euthanized after 30 days spent there. How about “rescue” those dogs? China has over 100 million dogs. These “rescue” operations are a stupid and useless effort. Likely there’s some charlatans getting rich out of it. Also there’s a high probability that these “rescued” dogs are going to bring into the US diseases against which there is no immunity among local dogs.
Went to the airport with them (Big Dog Rescue) last month to help unload a plane load of puppies from Puerto Rico.
Also, this particular dog shelter is amazing. A 33-acre compound that is impressive. They place pregnant mom dogs in special cabins to give birth and remain solely with their litters. These rooms may be better than where some people live! I’ve never seen anything like this. Check it out:

I agree with you. My friend in dog rescue in Arizona has started seeing variant strains of parvo and distemper that don’t respond to American vaccines. There are so many animals in our local rescues who need help. My local rescue here in MS is the only one in our county and we don’t really have any government run animal control. You can imagine how constantly strapped she is depending on donations that are never enough to cover the cost of too many animals abandoned or stray. People foster for her and they are swamped too. Its a sad situation that is repeated throughout the nation.
IMO the Asian Meat dogs, as much as we would like to save them, are people’s protein source, much like beef and pork are in America. They have never been socialized and probably would not make good pets. It makes no sense to me to euthanize millions of unwanted pets here our country while bringing in animals “rescued” from other countries.
