Cuomo threatens New Yorkers with tax hikes over COVID-19 shortfalls

Gov. Andrew Cuomo threatened Thursday to increase the burden on New York’s already heavily taxed residents if federal lawmakers don’t provide funding to offset losses due to the coronavirus crisis.
“THIS WILL BE A HOLE IN THE FINANCIAL PLAN SO LARGE THAT IT WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE TO FILL,” the governor said during a conference call with reporters.
“What would we do to try to fill it? Taxes, cuts, borrowing, early retirements [of government workers]. All of the above.”

Cuomo is desperate to lay the blame on President Trump. New York (and my state of Illinois) had big budget deficits before the China Virus. This will result in more New Yorkers leaving New York.

He needs to ignore them and do it anyway. He has final say on apportionments. It is what it is. They can bang their gavels and make their rulings all they want.
As I found out from 4 census takers this past month, foreign university students are also included in the census. All 4 said if they were in the country, they had to be counted. They were counting those in apartments off-campus and said the university was responsible to count those in on-campus housing.
Why should students temporarily in the US on student visas help determine congressional representation?
They should not – they are citizens of other countries…some are not even our allies. Their loyalties are with their own countries, not the USA, and they are not allowed to vote in our federal elections.
They should not be counted in our Congressional Apportionment for representation of citizens in the US federal government!

Each day, I get 8-10 phone calls I never answer for obvious reasons. Some with names, some without. Does anyone get these? Ever answer? I guess they could be campaign cold calls or they could be pollsters. Either way, I’m sure alot of calls are not being answered. Who does/would answer? If polls show lead for Biden, I’m sure gullible democrats answer every call. To be fair, they should label at least 80% of unanswered calls as being for Trump.

If this is true, that Ellison will dismiss the charges, it wouldn’t come as a huge surprise to me; a very, very quiet dismissal.
I think Ellison’s original plan was to overcharge the officers and when they were acquitted, the riots would start up again along with media faux outrage to fan the flames.
With the release of the videos from the officers’ body cams and the coroner’s report, I think that Ellison doesn’t want this to go to court. It will be closely followed and the defense case will destroy the narrative that this was a racially motivated, totally unjustified attack and a deliberate murder.
Better to quietly dismiss and let the public remember the initial headlines rather than find out the real story.
A lot of black-owned businesses were destroyed. Already some of those business owners and some of the black community know or suspect they were played. Ellison doesn’t want any more people finding out that they were played. So going to court will probably cost Dems some votes.
The only question I have is, can Ellison keep the dismissal quiet?

My neighbor told me 3 or 4 weeks ago protesters were setting the fires. Since then I’ve been seeking hard evidence. I looked at the Oregon fires on a thermal map. Most of them up line up along the western slope (Cascades) along the I-5 corridor although there’s one in our area on the 45th parallel. It’s also Native land and National Forest. It’s an easy peasy drive from Portland.
The guy near Eugene was caught by civilians.
The wind has shifted so we are getting the smoke and ash and presumably orange sky’s again. I can’t tell about the orange yet the smoke is obscuring the sunrise. I grew up in a national forest. I’ve never seen anything like this before. We might get one big fire a year and it might be local once every 15 or 20 years.
