Tuesday November 5th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Jamie Lin Wilson lives in the bustling metropolis of D’Hanis, Texas (pop. 548 more or less). A few years ago she recorded some great songs while sitting on her front porch. This one from Guy Clark has a back story. Their relationship always rocky, for several years Guy and Susanna Clark didn’t/couldn’t live together. It was a troubled time that inspired Guy to write some of his more touching love songs. I think Jamie perfectly captures Guy’s since of pathos about his troubled relationship with Susanna.

‘Faith of Christ’ and ‘Faith in Christ’

“I was wondering what the distinction is, if any, between the ‘faith of Christ’ and ‘faith in Christ’ found in Galatians 2:16? The modern translations seem to suggest that both phrases are one and the same.”

“Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified” (Gal. 2:16).

We believe that the King James Version of the Scriptures best conveys the sense of the original language. The modern versions change the phrase “faith of Christ” to “faith in Christ” throughout, which overwhelms the passage with redundancy. Paul never intended the emphasis to be upon what man has achieved, but instead what the Savior has accomplished on his behalf. The apostle here is clearly contrasting these two phrases.

We are not justified by keeping the law, rather we are declared eternally righteous by the faith of Christ. It was Christ’s faithfulness that is the basis of our justification. He faithfully carried out the will of the Father to provide redemption through His finished work at Calvary (Heb. 10:5-10). While salvation is a free gift given to all who place their “faith in” what Christ has done, He being the object of our faith, it was at great cost. The payment to rescue us from the eternal consequences of sin is the precious blood of Christ. Only those, however, who place their faith in Him have the forgiveness of their sins (Eph. 1:7).

Hebrews 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
      8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

FTA – One UN housing official who visited homeless sites in both L.A. and San Francisco was so shocked by the conditions, she suggested that California was in violation of international human rights law. It’s an astonishing assertion for a state that is home to places like Atherton, where the median price for a house is upwards of $10 million and reserved exclusively for the likes of tech tycoons like Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

After more than 20 years here, the landscape has changed. Rarely does a day pass when I do not encounter the genderless homeless and their dogs encamped at a traffic signal or in the littered brush at the edge of a parking lot. Errant shopping carts routinely make their way from local markets to freeway underpasses, where they function as the support columns for an endless tract of tent homes. Sleeping bags, plastic bags, poly tarps, and cardboard are the cooperative building materials of the street.

Oh yeah, in NOLA we have homeless who migrate here for the party/drug atmosphere. If they wait long enough the city finds them housing at public expense. While waiting they can camp under the elevated I-10 and panhandle at the conveniently located Superdome or trot down to the river to beg for change at the convention center. If they’re ill they just walk across the street from their downtown encampment to the free (OK, THEY don’t pay for it, WE do) University hospital.

Ain’t gonna be snarky on this ‘un because after spending years in the Federal health business I know how it’s gonna end up.

First off, at some point treatment’s going to be rationed – no ‘ifs’, ‘ands’ or ‘buts’, it’s a ‘gimme’ just as it’s becoming in other countries. Medical personnel and equipment are finite and as soon as you make it ‘free’ the brakes are off and it’s a sharp downhill road. As it is the hospitals can’t find enough GPs so they’ve gone to a cheaper NP/PA system for primary care and intake. There were proposals before I retired about using technicians with ‘smart’ equipment to do more treatments with doctors on a communications link if necessary. We’re looking at mass care instead of individual care.

The more radical planners were looking at proposals to make certain personal habits ‘punishable’ as when the government is the sole payer then going against any medical directions would be an offense, disagreements were primarily over what sorts of remedial measures would be…appropriate. Just think of your doc ordering you off of fried foods, a charge for a 3-piece lunch at Popeye’s showing up on your credit card and the Cholesterol SWAT team breaking down your door at 3 AM and carrying you off in cuffs.

I watched two programs last week on patients in Britain who either couldn’t get a specialized operation as it was not available there (too $$$) or the wait list was years long. They came here and got them, in time to save their lives. Coming soon to a medical facility near you.

God, please bless all patriots, especially PDJT, with deep restorative sleep every night in this third year of the coup d’etat. It’s so important, God, and you can see that. Please also shine a light in Judge Sullivan’s mind and guide him to a just decision. Please deliver the United States to justice in the midst of this coup. Please somehow bring the perpetrators, each and every one of them, to perfect justice very soon. Please Guide AG Barr, John Durham, and all on their staff to deliver justice. Finally, please bless all Americans who are doing their best and trying hard by shining a light to guide them forth to you.

More than 1,000 concertgoers reportedly dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ on Friday during rapper Kanye West’s latest free Sunday Service in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Jonathan Stockstill, pastor of Bethany Church in Baton Rouge, introduced West to a crowd of thousands.

West took the stage in a rather humble fashion and performed several of songs from his new hit album, “Jesus is King.”

According to Curvine Brewington, pastor at Crossroads Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, the crowd was on fire for God.

“Rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings.” 1 Peter iv. 13

If you are going to be used by God, He will take you through a multitude of experiences that are not meant for you at all, they are meant to make you useful in His hands, and to enable you to understand what transpires in other souls so that you will never be surprised at what you come across. Oh, I can’t deal with that person. Why not? God gave you ample opportunity to soak before Him on that line, and you barged off because it seemed stupid to spend time in that way.

The sufferings of Christ are not those of ordinary men. He suffered “according to the will of God,” not from the point of view we suffer from as individuals. It is only when we are related to Jesus Christ that we can understand what God is after in His dealings with us. It is part of Christian culture to know what God’s aim is. In the history of the Christian Church the tendency has been to evade being identified with the sufferings of Jesus Christ; men have sought to procure the carrying out of God’s order by a short cut of their own. God’s way is always the way of suffering, the way of the “long, long trail.”

Are we partakers of Christ’s sufferings? Are we prepared for God to stamp our personal ambitions right out? Are we prepared for God to destroy by transfiguration our individual determinations? It will not mean that we know exactly why God is taking us that way, that would make us spiritual prigs. We never realize at the time what God is putting us through; we go through it more or less misunderstandingly; then we come to a luminous place, and say – “Why, God has girded me, though I did not know it!”

If you go back over the decades you’ll find numerous cases of where FBI agents have provided advice and materials just a hair’s breadth short of ‘entrapment’. Have we forgotten about their involvement in the 1st WTC bombing?

I can never comment on the 1st WTC attack without my remembering posting on it a few years back and having someone come back with: “1st? It was only attacked once on 911!”.

Ah well, let’s see what the US does:

Reports are it was cartel, let’s see how long it takes before the cartel narrative’s respun so as not to make US immigration sheep worry that we’re allowing this murderous trash free acces to the great American feeding trough.

I’d posted that open source map of Mexican cartel business hubs in the US, so they’re not only here already but here big time. The politicians in major cities are dialing back on their respective police departments’ abilities to confront crime so maybe the killing and violence won’t be as bad here as in Mexico where the politicians have dialed back on….heeeey, wait a minute…! Oh yeah, that US gun confiscation thing will help curb violence too as once the US population and police are disarmed the cartels won’t have any reason to carry guns themselves…just like in….heeeey, wait a minute…!

WordPress seems to have recently (circa Nov 1) changed the software in ways that affect many sites including CTH. The “see older posts” link that lets the front page be read as a feed, is gone.

You have to manually add “/page/2”, “page/3”, etc to the address (as in “http://conservativetreehouse.com/page/3”) see the feed of earlier posts.

This means people coming to CTH frontpage effectively can see only the 4-5 most recent posts. Same when clicking on posts for a single day or month.

I commented on this problem earlier, but it seems to be all WordPress sites, not only CTH.
