Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    A Gift For You

    “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

    In the light of the Pauline epistles these well-known words have become more appropriate than when our Lord first spoke them. Through Paul, Christ’s redemptive work at Calvary has been proclaimed and fully explained. In this light, then, we suggest that our readers take the time to really meditate on this passage about God’s greatest gift to man.

    Think of the love that prompted it! “God so loved….” We were the “children of disobedience” and “by nature the children of wrath, even as others” (Eph. 2:2,3). We deserved judgment, “but God, who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us,” gave His best, His all, to save us (Eph. 2:4).

    Think of its priceless value! “His only begotten Son — everlasting life.” Christ, the holy One, had to be given up to disgrace and death in order that our sins might be justly dealt with, and that we might become the rightful heirs of everlasting life (Rom. 3:25,26).

    Think of your need of this gift! “…that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish….” How perilous not to accept “the gift of God, eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Rom. 6:23)! What folly to spurn or ignore a gift we need so sorely!

    Finally, think how gracious the offer! “…that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Whosoever believeth! Any sinner may have this gift by simply believing, accepting in simple faith what God says about Christ paying for our sins at Calvary. In fact, this is the only way we can become the recipients of this wonderful gift, for Rom. 4:5 declares:

    “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith [believing] is counted for righteousness.”

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

    John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

    Ephesians 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
    3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
    4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
    5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)

    Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
    26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.

    Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

    Romans 4:5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.

    1 Corinthians 15:1 Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
    2 By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
    3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
    4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

    Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
    9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

      “In the light of the Pauline epistles these well-known words have become more appropriate than when our Lord first spoke them.”

      Why does there have to be some Pauline epistle elevation thrown in, especially with the evidently spurious premise of the verse being “more appropriate” later than when first spoken? No matter what Scriptural truths were later discussed and given further inspired context via Paul — and others such as Peter, James, and John, words spoken during Christ’s ministry were appropriate (suitable, fitting) to the time, especially ones that convey the love of God and His sacrifice for us in such a straightforward manner.

      Lighten up…we are all precious in his sight. While the deceased did not do much to be endearing to most of us….if we did not pray fro is soul before, we should now. He is conversing with the Lord right about now.

      I recently read a book about angels…the author quoted some saints reminding us that even those we do not like, have a Guardian Angel, from cradle to grave, who sees the face of God. If not for the man, respect the Guardian Angel….The decedent is being offered salvation. We don’t know the outcome.

      While many crimes scream for vengeance…I would not wish hell on anyone…rather mercy and forgiveness…

    “And greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.” John xiv. 12

    Prayer does not fit us for the greater works; prayer IS the greater work. We think of prayer as a commonsense exercise of our higher powers in order to prepare us for God’s work. In the teaching of Jesus Christ prayer is the working of the miracle of Redemption in me which produces the miracle of redemption in others by the power of God. The way fruit remains is by prayer, but remember it is prayer based on the agony of Redemption, not on my agony. Only a child gets prayers answered; a wise man does not.

    Prayer is the battle; it is a matter of indifference where you are. Whichever way God engineers circumstances, the duty is to pray. Never allow the thought – “I am of no use where I am;” because you certainly can be of no use where you are not. Wherever God has dumped you down in circumstances pray, ejaculate to Him all the time. “Whatsoever ye ask in My name, that will I do.” We won’t pray unless we get thrills, that is the intensest form of spiritual selfishness. We have to labor along the line of God’s direction, and He says PRAY. “Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.”

    There is nothing thrilling about a laboring man’s work, but it is the laboring man who makes the conceptions of the genius possible; and it is the laboring saint who makes the conceptions of his Master possible. You labor at prayer and results happen all the time from His standpoint. What an astonishment it will be to find, when the veil is lifted, the souls that have been reaped by you, simply because you had been in the habit of taking your orders for Jesus Christ.

    FORT WORTH, Texas ( – Doctors cannot be required to perform transgender surgeries, a federal judge in Texas ruled Tuesday.

    Tuesday’s ruling reverses the 2016 mandate by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which would have required doctors to perform sex reassignment procedures.

    • HIGHLY inaccurate and misleading story. There never was a HHS ruling REQUIRING doctors to perform a specific type of surgery, because under the medical licensing rules of the entire United States, no doctor can be required to perform ANY surgical procedure of ANY kind. All doctors have an absolute right to refuse to treat a patient, for any or no reason. This goes hand in hand with every patient’s absolute right to either accept or decline treatment.

      Additionally, most surgeons aren’t competent to perform all advanced types of surgery. Most of them specialize. You wouldn’t want an Orthopedic Surgeon to correct facial scars from an auto accident, or an ENT to do a liver transplant.

      Medical procedures are always supposed to be voluntary, and both doctor and patient must agree. That’s why you have to sign consent forms at every visit. Without a signed agreement, there’s no contract for service. There are rare exceptions, such as cases of neglect or abuse by a parent or guardian toward a minor patient in dire need of care. Plus, doctors who choose to refuse a patient must still be willing to refer that patient to another practice. This is like Pharmacists who don’t want to dispense RU-487. They don’t have to, but to keep their licenses they still must refer patients elsewhere.

      Inspired quote…thank you for that!
      “Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn’t even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.”

    • Per usual with memes, Heraclitus never said or wrote this. It’s one of those “Well, he would have agreed” kind of mis-attributions. One obvious clue is the phrase “shouldn’t even be there”, a type of sentence structure related to Jewish humor, and unknown in print before the 19th Century. (Goodreads is notoriously unreliable regarding quote sources.)

      The apparently fictional (though inspiring) quote appears in a 1999 book by Gabriel Suarez entitled “The Tactical Rifle”. Suarez had been an instructor with the LAPD, and the relevant chapter is about the 1997 incident in which two bank robbers in body armor with automatic weapons out-gunned the police for awhile. The invented quote is on page 237, and there is no earlier in-print source for this saying. Suarez said he got the quote from an earlier book by Peter Tsouras called “Warrior Words”, but in any case there’s no evidence of it in the existing writings of that philosopher.;wap2

      • Larry says:

        You are going to take Gabriel Suarez’s word? Do you know what kind of reputation he has?

        • If you can’t handle the concept, impeach the source, right? I only added a link for convenience. You have to pay to get links to academic sources on the complete writings of Heraclitus. The bottom line remains. He never said this. It’s in too modern a grammar, and there’s NO source in his work.

      Scalise never answered the question and dobbs let him off the hook from answering. In other words: “Here, I’ll set you up with a hard question and you can change the subject. I’ll frown, etc, but don’t worry, I won’t hold your feet to the fire.”

      I have called our rep, Austin Scott (GA) and asked why he voted along with Dems on HR 77. Of course the lady did not know but said she would find out and call me back. We shall see.

      No point in emailing them. Too easy to ignore.

      Some of us invited Scott to visit our little town to talk with us while he was on vacation this summer. Called well in advance of vacation, talked to scheduler. “We will get back to you.”

      Did they respond? No.

      Did he visit? No.

      Scott is a nice guy, but those of us in these rural GA areas are not clear whose side he is on. We elected him, supported him, sent him a bit of our hard-earned money.

      We work, we run our own businesses, we farm the land, we are the salt of the earth — we love America.

      A good bit of our local blood has been spilled for this great nation. We are concerned when it appears that “one of us” who we elected to stand for us stands by in silence — or, in this case, assists — while active Communists (or whatever you want to call them) seek to destroy the nation our family and neighbors have bled for.

      Actually, we believe we are quite clear whose side he is on, but our clarity is at this point an assumption based on Mr. Scott’s exhibited actions. Perhaps our assumptions are not fair, and he has more reasons for voting with the Dems and against Mr. Trump than we are aware of. We would welcome his explanation.

      We understand support for the military, and he is big on that and we appreciate it. But Mr. Scott (and all the rest) should consider visiting the families of those killed in idiotic interventions. He should be man enough to do this, if he’s man enough to sign up for sending their kids to die.

      How embarrassing.

      One can easily understand there is an awful lot of husk and cob for the kernels of corn that remain.
