Sunday September 29th – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    A Ransom For All

“For there is one God, and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus; who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time” (I Tim. 2:5,6).

Man, in his present condition is not fit to stand in the presence of a holy God. If we are honest with ourselves we will feel the need of a mediator — a go-between — who can represent us in the presence of God. Job felt this when, realizing this need, he cried:

“There is no daysman who can lay his hand upon us both” (Job 9:33).

Thank God, a “daysman” or “mediator” has been provided for sinful men — a go-between, who can act as an intermediary between sinful men and a holy God. This Mediator is Christ, Son of God and Son of man.

What a blessing to know that the Son of God became the Son of man that the sons of men might become the sons of God! Though perfect and sinless, He died upon Calvary’s cross, disgraced as a malefactor, so that His payment for sin might be credited to our account and we might stand before God without one sin to our charge.

Though Christ’s death for sin was credited to all believers, even of past ages, it was not proclaimed until sometime after the cross, when God in grace saved Saul of Tarsus, the chief of sinners (I Tim. 1:15). This is why the Apostle declares that Christ “gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

It was when Saul, the chief of sinners, was saved on the road to Damascus, that God began to show to him that Christ had died as “a ransom for all,” and God sent him forth to proclaim this glorious message.

This is why Paul’s epistles are so filled with references to salvation through the cross, the death, the blood of Christ. And it is on this basis that the Apostle offers to all salvation by grace, through faith in the finished work of Christ, and proclaims to all the simple offer of salvation: “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

    1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
6 Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

Job 9:33 Neither is there any daysman betwixt us, that might lay his hand upon us both.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

      Before the Sanhedrin:

Acts 5:29-31 “But Peter and the apostles answering said, “It is necessary to obey God rather than men. The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you killed, having hanged Him on a tree. God exalted Him to His right hand as Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.”

      Peter to the Gentiles:

Acts 10:39-43 “And we are witnesses of all things that He did, both in the region of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they also put to death, having hanged Him on a tree. This One God raised up on the third day, and gave Him to become manifest, not to all the people, but to the witnesses having been chosen beforehand by God, to us who did eat with and drink with Him after His rising out from the dead. And He instructed us to proclaim to the people and to testify fully that He is the One having been appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To Him all the prophets bear witness that everyone believing in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.””

The only person who decides if you are going to hell is you.

100% on you alone. There will be no one else to blame if you go there.

“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, BECAUSE he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

      Not for any other reason.

because he has not believed (pisteuó),
      because he has not ever,
      because he has never

Once you truly change your thinking (repent) and believe (pisteuó), you can never again be in a position where you have never believed (pisteuó). You are forever delivered from the ultimate penalty of sin, eternal death in hell. pisteuó

And for those facing doubt, don’t turn away but turn directly to God for help.

Mark 9:23-24 “And Jesus said to him, “If You are able? All things are possible to the one believing.” Immediately the father of the child, having cried out, was saying, “I believe; help my unbelief!””

        Revelation 12:7-12

7 Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, 8 but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brothers[b] has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.

11 And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.

12 Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!”

From the song, “A Mighty Fortress is our God”, vs. 2:

With might of ours can naught be done,
        Soon were our loss effected;
But for us fights the Valiant One,
        Whom God Himself elected.
        Ask ye, who is this?
        Jesus Christ it is.

I say I was verrrry deliberate because it is of upmost importance to me.

“For necessity is laid upon me: yea, woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” 1 Cor. ix. 16

We are apt to forget the mystical, supernatural touch of God. If you can tell where you got the call of God and all about it, I question whether you have ever had a call. The call of God does not come like that, it is much more supernatural. The realization of it in a man’s life may come with a sudden thunder-clap or with a gradual dawning, but in whatever way it comes, it comes with the undercurrent of the supernatural, something that cannot be put into words, it is always accompanied with a glow. At any moment there may break the sudden consciousness of this incalculable, supernatural, surprising call that has taken hold of your life – “I have chosen you.” The call of God has nothing to do with salvation and sanctification. It is not because you are sanctified that you are therefore called to preach the gospel; the call to preach the gospel is infinitely different. Paul describes it as a necessity laid upon him.

If you have been obliterating the great supernatural call of God in your life, take a review of your circumstances and see where God has not been first, but your ideas of service, or your temperamental abilities. Paul said – “Woe is unto me, if I preach not the gospel!” He had realized the call of God, and there was no competitor for his strength.

If a man or woman is called of God, it does not matter how untoward circumstances are, every force that has been at work will tell for God’s purpose in the end. If you agree with God’s purposes He will bring not only your conscious life, but all the deeper regions of your life which you cannot get at, into harmony.

I’m no fan of pop culture, Hip Hop, or the circus known as Kardashian, but this is one amazing story. West claims to have made a “deal with the Devil” in exchange for fame, wealth, and everything that goes with it. He also claimed later that the deal was a bad one, and he didn’t get what he bargained for (gee, who wouldda thunk it?). Now a few years later you see this- what appears like an unapologetic stand for Christ. I hope it’s true. Like him or not he influences millions of relatively ignorant, mostly young people and any profession of faith in Jesus has mighty power over Darkness.
Like it or not every knee shall bow and every tong shall confess that Jesus is LORD Phil 2:10,11
