Tomb of the Unknown ChristmasOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Just heard on Michael Savage that Cruz said a news paper reported that TRUMP told the reporter that he would not build a wall and that he was just saying that to get elected. Cruz had no real information because what Trump said was off the record. So when you Cruz you lose got airtime to make up a story about Trump which of course cannot be proven.

It’s Oscar night, or at least for a it more. My Oscar question is: “who in the Israeli Ministry of Tourism gave the final OK to give each Oscar ‘treat bag’ a $55,000 all expenses paid vacation to Israel? Come on now.
We have a hall full of over-privileged trolls, many of whom wear their pro-Palestinian, anti-Israeli bs dogma like pearls. A trip to the Holy Land for a group that has more atheists than it does millionaires? I’m presuming that every Hollywood glitterati who wanted to visit Isreal has, had had his/her ass summarily kissed there and deducted it all as a business expense, which one of them needs a $55,000 freebie trip?
Someone in the ministry believes that the narcissist toads will tweet endlessly about how wonderful their trips are and the slavish hoards of their US followers will drop all and rush El Al, credit cards in hand. Someone needs some US culture refresher courses.
I can’t wait until some Hollywood demigod takes the trip and starts tweeting from the Palestinian Territories, going on about how the Isrealis mistreat the poor Palestinians, how they kill children and throw old ladies out in the streets. Can’t wait until one brings his PR team and has live blog from a refugee camp.
The ministry could have sent more than a pair of Hollywood hangers-on for 55k had they decided to send working class Americans instead. How about taking ten celeb’s’ tour packages and sending fifty blue collar Christians who’d never otherwise see the Holy Land, bet they reach more people with a positive message than the sybaritic Brentwood bunch, eh?
Time for bed, the idiocy weighs on me.

Has anyone noticed how lucianne.com has gone bonkers? The site is completely infected with Trump Derangement Syndrome, dementia, various psychoses and probably syphilis. Articles that are obvious junky hit pieces are posted constantly. You’d think nothing else in the world was happening except that Donald Trump, who is the reincarnation of Hitler, Stalin, Mussolini, Chairman Mao and a host of other villains, must be ridiculed and removed from ever engaging in public service.

What used to be an enjoyable and informative visit is now like a visit to a special ed class. Commenters have deteriorated to lo-fo status, and they seem quite proud of it. Yesterday, the staff posted a warning in bold typeface on the landing page to the effect that unauthorized thoughts and opinions will result in permanent blockage from the site. Only approved apparatchiks from now on, is that it?

News flash to lucianne. Jonah is a big boy who dyes his hair and beard. At this stage in his life, he doesn’t need his mommy to have hissy fits on his behalf. Did it ever occur to you that Jonah is in with the wrong crowd? Has it occurred to you that your remaining posters are largely off their rockers? Do you like losing? You are going to lose lady, just wait. Your legacy is fast approaching nothingness.

Count me in as one who totally agrees with your lucianne.com assessment. The bashing of Trump started slowly; but, started to realize that the anti-Trump articles soon became the norm. I don’t visit the site any long; just like I don’t listen to “conservative” talk radio any longer or tune in to Fox. As far as her son, Jonah, I heard him speak a few years ago at Hillsdale College. He was very disappointing and I will leave it at that. I have cleared them all out of my life and am better for it, thank you.

SoI thought I’d lost a bunch of friends over the weekend as there is only so long you can go without admitting how you are spending the time they thought you should share with them, like back in the old days before you became consumed with changing the world with one, singular sensation such as Mr. Trump.

Frankly, I’m a realist. Will one election stun our world and reverse all the bad crap that we have accepted over manymanymanymany years? No. But it appears we have a struck a twang. That’s all I ask: people thinking and talking our loud again.

So I’m online at this very early hour for me and find messages from those I thought I’d so totally offended that I would never hear from them ever, again, not in my life time. And I’d accepted that as, be what it may, I needed to stand for my values.

I might make myself a Bloody Mary and open those responses. Perhaps not. Perhaps their opinions can wait a few days. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps. Great song.

My wife is also feeling badly because she has seen on facebook (yech!) that so many of her friends from our old church (we moved last March) really do not like Mr. Trump and they are bashing him horribly. These are all women that she was in WMU with or Sunday school. That made her sad (her wine helped…) It also took me a while to realize my old “friends” were also non-supportive of Mr. Trump as I would send them emails and they were not responding – then I figured it out when she told me what people on social media were saying. Oh well, I’m kind of misanthropic anyways 😉 Anyways, like I told my sweetie, hang in there – you know what we are doing is right for our country, and hopefully their eyes will be opened soon. I was at breakfast today with a friend who is a Cruz supporter and who really does not like Trump. She is not an insulter or an ugly fighter. That said she was getting very frustrated with me mostly over “what if” concerning Trump’s liberal past, mostly on abortion and with Trumps donations to liberals.

I said to her, Trump may betray my trust, I do not think he will but he may. But there is one thing that is unequivocally true Cruz, Rubio, and Ryan have all betrayed my trust. They have all supported things that they swore that they would fight vigorously against. They have all empowered and enabled Obama’s destruction of the United States. Trump may have supported liberals in the past, but he did so to benefit his business, not as part of an ideology that he believes in, it was part of the game, I’d prefer he hadn’t done so but it is what it is.

Imagine if Trump just stops Muslim immigration and illegal immigrants from entering our country, imagine that? Why would you vote for someone who has betrayed you when there is every 100% indication that person will betray you again? Trump is promising to do what you have wanted done and he will only have a loyalty to the people who vote him into power rather than to the special interests and their lobbyist.

And she actually said that she would think about it, that I was right on the betrayal 😱.

    Democrat’s Answer:
Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
    Could we run away?
    What does my wife think?
    What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to my children?
Is it possible he’d be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
    Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted?
We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a
    consensus.

When Trump is disavowing David Duke and the KKK since he’s asked about it about three times an hour, he needs to throw it back in the Face of the Democrat who is asking the question: yes I not only denounce Duke and the KKK but I also note that Duke started out as a Democrat and the Democrats are the party of the KKK. Almost all of the original members of the KKK were Democrats and a Democrat should be ashamed of that history…

Admittedly, I don’t know David Duke. Based on his website and his public speeches his main concern is the control of the big financial institutions, most of the mainstream media, and the movie industry by Jews, in particular the ones known as Zionists. He is also very outspoken in defense of white people as the mainstay of Western civilization, and that they are being overwhelmed by non-whites.

This is what Trump is being pressured to repudiate.

The media is trying to trap Trump by making it look like he supports the KKK. My main point is these are Democrats trying to trap trap Trump, yet their party is where the KKK came from. The moderators seem to have been having a hard time of it here. These are my personal observations. I was sent into moderation once. I’d posted a comment on President Obama interfering with the UK referendum. It went into moderation. I was puzzled and upset because I thought that I was obeying the rules and not commenting on the election. My comment eventually got posted and got one “like”. I was obeying the rules, as the mods accepted, and was on a topic that Treepers weren’t really interested in. One of my favourite sites, “An Fear Rua” had to shut down. It was a site for people who liked GAA (Irish) football and hurling, but people kept posting stuff that was semi-libelous about politics and the guy who ran it couldn’t afford the lawyers fees. I value politeness and would ask others who post here to stick to the rules. This forum seems like a gift from God and I would ask the offenders to respect the community that has accepted you as a member.

Having a comment in moderation isn’t indicative of a Treeper being put in time-out by Admin. It could be a WordPress thing and it happens randomly. As others have stated previously, sometimes it’s just your turn. Also, about the “likes”, or lack of- again not an indicator that your comment is bad or uninteresting. Make like a duck and let it roll off your back. I like a lot of comments but can’t actually “like” them and I know I’m not the only one. Again, WordPress. 😉

I do agree about the extra work the mods have been having from Treepers old and new. It’s not nice as they’re not visiting us- we are visiting them in their home. I understand it’s usually not done intentionally but we could/should do a quick check before pasting the comment and before hitting the “submit” key.

It’s unfair to complain to the Treehouse moderators if the fault lies with WordPress. The WordPress operatives need to be caned.

And while I’m bit—-g, WordPress won’t let me “like” anyone’s post. Apparently this is a common problem. End of tirade.

NY Judge Rules In Favor Of Apple In Government Request For iPhone Data

    http://techcrunch.com/2016/02/29/ny-judge-rules-in-favor-of-apple-in-government-request-for-iphone-data/?platform=hootsuite

In a New York case, Magistrate Judge James Orenstein of the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York has ruled in favor of Apple, denying a government request for information on an iPhone. Orenstein had paused the request to allow Apple to file in opposition of the order because it involved the broad interpretation of a law that has been used to force private companies to comply with requests for user information.

The request to compel Apple to provide information on the iPhone was relatively routine (Apple has complied with these requests before,) but relied on an expanded interpretation of the All Writs Act (AWA) — which is currently also being used to try to force Apple to unlock an iPhone in a separate case in San Bernardino, California. In the NY case, Apple could provide information because the iPhone involved was running an older version of iOS, which allows it to extract data similar to an iPhone backup and provide that to the authorities with proper warrant for further analysis.

A senior Apple executive, commenting on the case in a press conference, said that an important precedent of opinion had been set by this ruling in NY that could apply to other cases like the one in California — while acknowledging that there was no binding legal precedent being set that would affect the San Bernardino case.

“…after reviewing the facts in the record and the parties’ arguments, I conclude that none of those factors justifies imposing on Apple the obligation to assist the government’s investigation against its will. I therefore deny the motion,” reads Orenstein’s order.

The ruling is clear and concise, making the case that the All Writs Act cannot be stretched to cover the blanket license to compel private companies to extract customer data from locked devices that the government wants. The document makes a strong argument that there needs to be legislative ruling on the breadth of the All Writs Act. It even brings into question whether this interpretation of the AWA would be in violation of the 4th Amendment.

Specifically, Orenstein questions whether interpreting the AWA as broadly as the government wanted to in this case could even be supported constitutionally:

As set forth below, I conclude that in the circumstances of this case, the government’s application does not fully satisfy the statute’s threshold requirements: although the government easily satisfies the statute’s first two elements, the extraordinary relief it seeks cannot be considered “agreeable to the usages and principles of law.” In arguing to the contrary, the government posits a reading of the latter phrase so expansive – and in particular, in such tension with the doctrine of separation of powers – as to cast doubt on the AWA’s constitutionality if adopted.

The ruling also features some of the strongest footnote game I can recall in a ruling from a Judge.

In considering the burden the requested relief would impose on Apple, it is entirely appropriate to take into account the extent to which the compromise of privacy and data security that Apple promises its customers affects not only its financial bottom line, but also its decisions about the kind of corporation it aspires to be. The fact that the government or a judge might disapprove Apple’s preference to safeguard data security and customer privacy over the stated needs of a law enforcement agency is of no moment: in the absence of any other legal constraint, that choice is Apple’s to make, and I must take into account the fact that an order compelling Apple to abandon that choice would impose a cognizable burden on the corporation that is wholly distinct from any direct or indirect financial cost of compliance.

That, which pretty much negates the whole ‘Apple is doing this because it’s good for marketing’ argument that has been put forward by the FBI in CA, is a footnote to the actual ruling. Spicy.

Orenstein concludes the ruling by explicitly laying out what many security experts have been talking about in the California case, where the FBI wants Apple to create software to help it crack an iPhone passcode. Namely, that this is absolutely not just about a ‘single device’, but instead whether the All Writs Act can be used to force compliance by private companies:

Ultimately, the question to be answered in this matter, and in others like it across the country, is not whether the government should be able to force Apple to help it unlock a specific device; it is instead whether the All Writs Act resolves that issue and many others like it yet to come. For the reasons set forth above, I conclude that it does not. The government’s motion is denied.

Orenstein has been using this case as an opportunity to rule on whether the All Writs Act allows private companies to be ‘automatically conscripted‘ in government investigations.

A question was put to Apple during the call about whether Apple had ever signed a piece of software to assist in the de-encryption of information or extraction of said information from an iPhone. “Absolutely, unequivocally, no. We have not done that,” responded the Apple executive.

The New York case, which is about Apple giving the government access to information on an older locked iPhone, has implications for Apple’s fight in California. The California case involves the FBI trying to use the All Writs Act to force Apple to actually create new software which would weaken the security of its devices — something it argues the government has no authority to compel it to do. The iPhone belongs to San Bernardino shooter Syed Farook and we’ve covered the entire saga here.

This ruling, then, could influence the eventual decision in California, though many are assuming that it will eventually hit the Supreme Court. Apple has argued that it should be a congressional matter, to be decided by legislation, rather than the courts.
