NAACP Tells GOP Thad Cochran He Owes Them For His Mississippi Re-Election – NAACP Requests “Reciprocity”…

thad cochran - chris mcdanielMISSISSIPPI – Black voters played a huge role in helping Sen. Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) fend off tea party challenger Chris McDaniel in a runoff election Tuesday, and now the state NAACP is asking the six-term senator to return the favor.

In an interview with HuffPost Live, Derrick Johnson, president of the Mississippi NAACP, said that Cochran could thank black voters by supporting efforts to re-establish protections in the Voting Rights Act that the Supreme Court struck down last year.

“Our advocacy towards his office is to support amending the Voting Rights Act, free of any conditions such as voter ID,” Johnson said. “I think this is an opportunity for him to show some reciprocity for African-Americans providing a strong level of support for him.”

Johnson said that there are currently no Republicans who support re-establishing the formula eliminated by the Supreme Court last year, though Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) and a handful of other Republicans have expressed support for restoring protections. Under the formula, states like Mississippi needed to receive federal clearance before making changes to the way that elections were held. Johnson added that other priorities for the Mississippi NAACP included getting more support for the state’s black colleges and universities as well as getting more federal allocations for communities represented by black elected officials. NAACP has a form letter that starts out: ‘Dear (fill in the blank). You owe me/us (fill in the blank) for (fill in the blank)…’ So where’s the big ‘whoop’?

  2. benzy says:

Okay, as I read that… the president of the MS NAACP thinks that a reasonable payback would be to reinstate a statute which the Supreme Court has already ruled as unconstitutional. Doh!! And how does he think that will pass muster with the Supremes a second time? Is he really that stupid or just that pig-headed? “I want what I want and damn the rules” Sheesh!!

It’s the Liberals’ way of thinking…there are no ‘laws’ except doing what benefits the meme life style.

Though I’m not quite sure how I want to say it exactly, but the words “deal with the devil” come to mind.

Wasn’t it Oswald Garrison Villard, Mary Ovington and William Walling, all “white” people, who founded the NAACP, which now is affronted when the Koch Foundation contributes millions to college scholarships for Negroes? Wasn’t it the Negro that disliked the idea of separate this and separate that, but has established Negro/Black only coalitions from preachers to college students to healthcare providers to members of our Congress? Wasn’t it the effort to integrate educational facilities that led to a misinterpretation of sociologist James S. Coleman’s study on learning in racially-balanced schools, resulting in millions being spent busing children every which way across school districts with no noticeable benefit in later studies (discipline and expectations being the operative characteristics for success) — but now we have academies of learning that are for Blacks-Only? Do we now have a society where no one is certain what is going to offend the PC police, so no one says anything but the number of laws passed to make certain no one is offended has stifled freedom and growth in every cranny that can be governed?

The “Arab” Spring came to America in the 60s and no one noticed. How’s it working for us now?

It has reached the point where citizens demand equality before the law. No more special dispensations for the BGI and its constituent welfare class. Trillions of dollars transferred via the BGI to Black Americans and yet Whites are still maligned and reviled. It is swim or sink time.

  5. screwauger says:

I am hearing there may be enough illegal votes (at first glance) to overturn the results!! Prayers.
