UPDATE 10:00am EST: Death Toll Rises


BREAKING NEWS [00:10 EST 2/4/15]  TransAsia Flight 235 crashed in the Keelung River with 58 people on board after taking off from Taipei’s Songshan Airport at 10:54 a.m. on Wednesday. The flight, which was en route to the island region of Kinmen, lost contact with flight controllers at 10:55 a.m., according to Channel News Asia. The flight was expected to land just before midday.


The dramatic moment the craft descended from the sky and smashed into a bridge was captured on a dashcam video. So far, there are two reported fatalities and numerous passenger injuries, according to local media reports.

The plane has been identified as a French-made twin-engine turboprop ATR 72 with a two-pilot air crew. (link)
