(AP) — Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi issued decrees giving himself broad powers and effectively neutering the judiciary. Morsi, an Islamist hailing from the Muslim Brotherhood, defends the step as necessary to clear obstacles holding up Egypt’s transition, particularly from judges who could have disbanded a controversial assembly writing the constitution or overturned his decisions. Critics say Morsi, who already holds both executive and legislative powers, is setting himself up as a new dictator.
Here is a look at the main points of his decrees:
- All laws and decisions by the president are final, cannot be appealed, overturned or halted by the courts or other bodies. This applies to decisions he has made since taking office in June and any he makes until a new constitution is approved and a new parliament is elected, expected in the spring at the earliest.
- No judicial body can dissolve the upper house of parliament or the assembly writing the new constitution. Both are dominated by the Brotherhood and other Islamists and several cases demanding their disbanding were before the courts, which previously dissolved the lower house of parliament.
- The president can take any steps or measures necessary to prevent threats to “the revolution, the life of the nation or national unity and security” or to the functioning of state institutions.
- A new judiciary body of “protection of the revolution” is created to reopen investigations, prosecutions and trials of former regime officials, including ousted President Hosni Mubarak, for the killing of protesters during last year’s uprising. Other police officers accused of killings, however, will not be retried.
- The controversial prosecutor general, a Mubarak appointee seen by many as lax in pursuing former regime figures, was removed from his post. (more)

I’m sure you’ll know it when you see it. Be patient, though. Being a professional cynic specializing in passive agresseive behavior, most will never see it coming and the rest will never know what and how it happened until well after the fact. It’s a dark side gift.

The solution to Morsi is a 20 cent bullet. The reason we have a second amendment.
Wher can you get ammo ( except .22) for 20 cents a round? The impending civil unrest is going toe expensive.
I can currently get 223 and Russian 7.62X54R for about that price. If you only need one shot to solve a problem like Morsi then you could round up to a dollar.

I have not shot the Tul-Ammo stuff. Have you had any issues with it? You are right, it is really cheap to buy.
The Tula ammo has been OK…had one casing that “failed to extract” because the rim broke off where the extractor was pulling. Otherwise no real issues.

My 22 Mag currently costs 16 cents a round. And you would not want to get hit with a 22mag round.

Obama just received a 4 year vindication to end run as many “decrees” he can possibly get away with while he keeps us focused on other areas of interest. I predict we will be blindsided by his accomplishments unless we pay close attention. It is kind of like the old shell game….it is never what it seems. It is all a game of misdirection and we really never know something unless Obama wants us to know it, when he wants us to know it.
He will never be as obvious as Morsi. For now he must be more stealth in his activities, but much of the initial threads are woven in 2,700+ pages of the Affordable Healthcare Act we call Obamacare.

The latest where Obama brokers a one-sided cease fire with Israel, the one time the country finally and powerfully stands up to the continuous attacks by Hamas, emboldened Morsi to declare martial law on Egyptians. Obama will be watching and following Morsi’s lead and institute same if the Egyptian tyrant succeeds. I was relieved to see the populace rise up against him. We must do the same.
Obama has refused 30 Congressional inquiries into questions on Benghazi and still can be impeached on assisting the Arab Spring without Congressional approval. We must not assume that the Senate will not incriminate him, irregardless of Reid. He could drop dead tomorrow. Let’s do everything we can to get as close as we can so that when the ball drops, Obama is ripe for election nullification or impeachment.
