Sunday Open Thread – November 27th

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Morning, Wee! Morning, all! Well, tomorrow the regular old schedule resumes, and we have our countdown to Christmas. Lots to do yet. We had beautiful weather this weekend until last evening when it began to rain. Still not too cold, and none of that snow stuff.

Mornin’ sports fans and happy Sunday. The last day of our long weekend! Getting the coffee started, let’s see what’s been going on…
Here’s “Occupy Wall Street Has Vindicated The Tea Party”

    • Patriot Dreamer says:

“Tea Partiers have at least, during their short existence, conducted themselves relatively peacefully and responsibly.”

Tea Partiers have conducted themselves very peacefully and responsibly. How many people have been hurt or arrested as a result of Tea Party actions? When have millions of dollars of cleanup and police overtime ever been necessary at a TP rally? No, they always clean up after themselves.

“Of course, this isn’t to suggest critics won’t still cry foul whenever a Tea Partier shows up to a public event concealing a firearm…”

They weren’t concealing a firearm. They were carrying openly in accordance with their state’s laws. Nobody was threatening anyone with a weapon. Liberal pantywaists see a gun and they think that = brandishing.

Who wrote this crappy opinion piece?

The Occupy movement continued its outreach program of thuggery, harassment and intimidation on Black Friday.

Good news for those of us here in the north: Canada is postponing their ban of the incandescent lightbulb. Skip over the bridge, or through the tunnel to Windsor, Ontario, and I can buy all of those that I want, at least for a couple of more years. Or I can ask our salesman, Fred, to buy some for me and deliver them to the office when he makes a periodic visit.

Rick Perry’s Thanksgiving ad thanking our military.

    • TXMom says:

That is great, WW. The following is a casual comment on the story about Perry and Marcus by my friend, Linda H.
“Whenever a Texas soldier is killed/wounded in Iraq/Afghanistan, Governor Perry calls them on his own cell phone, and offers his condolences…then tells them to call him – on his own cell phone – if they need anything.
Are you familiar with Marcus Luttrell from “Lone Survivor” fame?
Well, Marcus was having a really tough time after he returned from Afghanistan. A trauma like that would make anyone a little off center.
So Rick and Anita took Marcus in. They gave him things to do and made sure he got to San Antonio for all his medical visits.
Rick, having also been in the military, had long talks to the wee hours with Marcus about the aftershock of Marcus losing all his team members.
After Marcus moved back home, some thug teenagers killed his dog, the rehabilitation dog (DASY…an acronym of the guys he served with/lost during the mission) Marcus was given at Walter Reed.
What happened then can be found on the internet. Basically, some crazies shot his dog and Marcus chased them through several counties until the Marshals arrested them.
What is not reported is that Marcus called Rick on his cell phone and told Rick that punks had killed his dog.
Rick sent the Texas Rangers to intercept the thugs. They are now in jail.
When Rick Perry tells you he’s a friend and will always be there for you, he means it.
Up to now, Rick and Anita have taken in even more Navy Seals who have had traumatic experiences, trying to help them like they did Marcus. To me, that says a LOT about the measure of a man.”

      • Sharon says:

Read the book, folks, if you haven’t already. It underscores that being a hero is no easy task–either in the doing of the heroic thing or surviving it to be able to tell of the heroes who died. On his very worst debating or campaigning day Rick Perry is like Ronald Reagan with Alzheimer’s: 200 times the man than you-know-who is on his very best day with a body man and teleprompters running at high speed.

Can we start just calling you-know-who ykw? I’m sick of his face. I’m sick of his voice. I’m sick of his deeds. I’m sick of everything he is and represents. 2012: take the trash out. theonewhoshallnotbenamed perhaps? Regardless of the outcome for our nation, he will go down as The Betrayer. Maybe that’s what we could call him.

      • AFinch says:

Thanks for sharing this. This is much more meaningful to me than some ill-considered comments at a debate.

      • Thanks, W2 and TXMom. Good, good stuff.

        • GracieD says:

Marcus is a True American Hero, who will quickly tell you that “I’m not a hero, I’m a Patriot”. He and his wife have a baby boy, named after his friend, Axe.

I don’t know if this has been linked here before, but it is important enough to repeat.

Tebow Train Continues to Turn Out W’s!!! LOL! Oh, sorry, I’se watchin’ the football….

  9. WeeWeed says:

Any of y’all heard anything about this??? (after long week-end I’m playing catch-up) This is unbelievable.

sundance…just in case you didn’t see it, Tebow and the Broncos won again today…in OT.

    • Auntie Lib says:

Another happy football weekend – my SAINTS won their playoff game against Azusa Pacific yesterday and Tim and the Broncos pulled off a great one today. Love me some football!!!!

    • Oh yeah I saw it……. :) Good game, but poorly coached by Bronco’s. Several doofus mistakes by the coach including that last time out. But a most excellent result :D I’m sure John Elway is gnashing his teeth and seething behind the scenes….

    • Just wanted to add something here to this thought. The kid always deflects praise to his team. The team, especially the defense, really appear to play their heart out “for” him, and for themselves. Listening to the team, (players not mgmt) talk about it is actually quite inspiring. Strange too that ESPN appears to have a lot of Tebow detractors as commentators, while NFL network has commentators that are positive about him and talk about his inspiration.

Best comment I heard a couple of times from Michael Irvin was about so much emphasis being placed on “skill”, with no-one really understanding, or emphasizing, the value of “will”.

      • G8rmom7 says:

Shannon Sharp asked him twice yesterday in an interview “Do you think that the Broncos management and coaches are 100% behind you?” Why don’t you ask them? How is that possibly something he could answer with any kind of certainty…and why should he be concerned about it in the first place?

  11. I’m finally realizing how humorously disfunctional the Grunt family is. At the dinner table, I was explaining a video (posted today on iOTW) called “An Engineer’s Guide to Cats.” I thought one of the geek sons would appreciate that they were measuring the lengths and widths and calculating the “aspect-ratios” of 3 cats to see how aerodynamic they were. When I noted that one of the cats was so wide, it’s AR was nearly one, Mrs. Grunt retorted: “So, it had a big ass…pect ratio?” She’s REALLY immature. ;)

  12. For anybody still up, Philly police are getting ready to take out the trash, so please say a quick prayer for our men and women in blue.
