For those of you who have prepared it is wise to remember the advice that always accompanies the final stages of preparation. Once you are prepared, shut up, zip it, run silent and run deep.
The reason is simple comrades, when the “voluntary rationing” phase concludes, those who have prepared are quickly cast as ‘hoarders” and targeted by those who created the desperation. It has always been thus.
DC Mayor and COVID Compliance Minister, Muriel Bowser, asks residents in/around her region to enter a phase of voluntary rationing. What comes after the voluntary phase is the part many have been studiously preparing to avoid.
In the bigger picture… I find it rather revealing that only when leftist policies are followed to their natural conclusion do you see officials in the leftist economic system they created, a system not coincidentally always based on the outcome of scarcity, asking people not to engage in economic activity.
Chasing socialism always creates an outcome where the expressed intent from government is NOT to buy stuff, rationing. Socialism, or leftism in its modern form, always creates scarcity; it is the diametrically opposite outcome of a free capitalistic society.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…I’m drinking beer and making some decent chile.

About 6 months ago the Homeland security or FEMA was encouraging everyone to stock up the pantry for storms/emergencies. Now the SFB’s are saying not to. (SFB=$hit for brains)

Not sure if I have that much on hand, but shelves and boxes are full. Picked up another manually operated, hand held can opener and more matches.

Am noticing the same/similar notices at the entrances to big local supermarkets, here in my corner of Oz.
Also noticing people grabbing large quantities of TP, leaving the shelves almost bare – again.
Freezer sections as bare as a Badger’s bum.
Various shelves of processed items, per Sundance’s previous explanations, are also bereft of items of sustenance.
Even staples, such as rice & pasta products, are painfully thin on the shelves, although meat products were in better supply than the previous Friday – but even then, certain lines are absent and shelf spreading is all the rage.
Also noticed some “organic” items are now cheaper than generic products.
Fresh fruit and vegetables are still in good supply – possibly coming from cold stores in the south and fresh from the north.
For me, it is simply a case of trying to replace items consumed in previous weeks, as and when they become available – to keep the pantry & freezer as well stocked as I may.
Also have sufficient fuel to run generators, if needed, for quite an extended period (force of habit from living with cyclones & very wild storms).
I did heed Sundance’s warnings – although, as we are now in “Cyclone Season”, it is something that is always practiced each year – so it wasn’t a great leap forward for me (more a stumble, I guess [wink]).
Well, not to disappoint – here we go yet again. And think of the millions upon millions of 1/2 wits that still have not learned a stinking lesson and have jack $hit in the pantry, etc, etc.

That is a horrible translation. It is a “court of wheat for a denarius, and three courts of barely for a denarius”. A denarius is a common silver coin. But in context it was a days wages. So a loaf of bread will cost a days wages. Not a penny. If the translation that you used were correct then we are going to see very cheap bread…a penny. But that translation is wrong.
I suggest NKJV. Not saying its perfect, but it has very minimal translation issues.
It might be best to get a Strong’s Concordance along with a KJ. As for minimal translation issues, I’ve yet to see a Bible that didn’t replace the Father’s name 6,000+ times.

What always puzzles me is the train of thought–if we want 50 cans of chili beans and there is a limit, we can go to 10 stores for these..duh!!
Or do what I do when there’s limits. “Limit one per purchase.” Okay. buy one along with some other needed items, take it to the car, go back in, buy another with some other needed items, take it to the car, and so on for as many as I want or need. I would suggest going to a different register each time though.

I live about 1-1/2 hours northeast of DC. I went to the supermarket (Sprout’s) this afternoon. Some bare shelves, much more than last week. Definitely less stuff for sale today than last week.
I saw about 8 new employees who I never saw before. I also saw about 30% more customers than usual. The number of items on sale was much less than usual.
Prices rose probably 20-25% in general compared to the past two weeks. Meat was there but continues to be less every week. Snagged some chicken drumsticks for $2/lb. They had some pork country ribs and sausages and brats for $3/lb. All the other meat was high. Worst part was the quality of fruits and vegetables. First time I saw rotten fruit for sale on the shelf. $7 for a bag of avocados which were so soft they were inedible. Moldy kiwis. Some rotten oranges and grapefruit mixed in the bags. Avocados jumped from $.68 last week to $1.50 each. Tomatoes up 30% from last week. Luckily got one pound of strawberries for $3. The quality of the produce was definitely the worst I have seen in my life.
Thankful there was plenty of food but it is definitely trending in the wrong direction. And this is only the beginning of the trucking problem. Got to be flexible and buy what you can and be able to adapt. Luckily my wife and I are both good cooks.

Well, California may be a mess politically, but since we pretty much feed the rest of the country, our shelves, thus far are full. As they say,”in the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king!” Plus since most of the state never gets too hot or too cold, we can get by w/o utilities ( which is becoming a problem thanks to our DemoRAT government).
I keep a years supply of food for my family of 4, I’m in the process of increasing that to a 2 year supply

Here in el paso on FB, my wife saw an announcement from the city to stock up the pantry and fridge. That was it. No explanation or reason.

Do you honestly believe that if you ask people to begin rationing purchases that that is what they will start doing? I, for one, believe that just the opposite will occur.
