Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

I’ve always loved this small sermon. As with all good sermons, the strength is in the brevity. So much said in so few words, each sentence standing powerfully on its own.

Latest episode of Joe Dan Gorman’s Intellectual Froglegs available now at:
https://intellectualfroglegs.com/
When I first found Kat Edmonson a number of years ago I was immediately captivated by her obvious talent. Although at the time of these recordings she was obviously quite young, she was emotionally an “old soul” who could figure out the blues with the best of ’em. I just loved watching and listening to her performances. One of these performances (I think, anyway) were recorded when she lived and worked in Austin. The other is a great duo with Lyle Lovette. The third is from a e-Town performance.
Kat moved to NYC and—this is just my humble opinion—hasen’t yet found her niche in that very competitive environment. Still and all, she’s given us some really enjoyable performances to enjoy.
I especially like this video with Kat and Lyle. First of all the production is first-class (typical for Lyle) but if you’ll notice he makes a point ot letting Kat make the performance her’s rather than his. I think this is typical Lyle Lovett who is, I am told, a serious good musician and a seriously good guy. Anyway, in this song Ket really gets to shine and . . . and find the magic.
Thinking of “today”, thinking of “now”:
2 Cor. 6:2 (cf. Isaiah 49:8)
“For He says: “In the acceptable time I listened to you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is the time of favor; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Isaiah 55:6-7
“Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and He will have mercy on them, and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”
Hebrews 3:15a (cf. Psalms 95:7-8)
“As it has been said: “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts…”
Revelation 22:17 (cf. Isaiah 55:1)
“The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” Let the one who hears say, “Come!” And let the one who is thirsty come, and the one who desires the water of life drink freely.”
Thinking of why:
Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
Romans 5:8
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
John 5:24
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life and will not come under judgment. Indeed, he has crossed over from death to life.”
Thinking of how:
Luke 18:13
“And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his chest, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me a sinner!’”
James 4:8a
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.”
John 6:28-29
“Therefore they said to Him, “What must we do, that we may be doing the works of God?” Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you should believe in Him whom He has sent.””
Mark 9:24b
“‘Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.'”
Acts 16:30-31
“Then he brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.””
Here is an audiocast of this week’s service from the little church where I’m organist. The sermon this week is “He who is first must be last and servant of all,” based on the day’s Gospel from Mark 9.
https://stjames-lcms.org/2021/09/19/he-who-is-first-must-be-last-and-servant-of-all/
If you have just a few minutes to listen, I’d suggest the last 10 minutes of the sermon (starting at 36:30), which ends with a sung version of Ps 51:10, “Create in me a clean heart.”
If you’d like Christmas in September, the first hymn, at the beginning after a prelude verse, is “Joy to the World.” Good for us to sing any time.
If you weren’t able to make it to church this week, you might enjoy the whole service.
How thoughtful of you to post this. And oh how you must enjoy playing the organ, the king of instruments. My British father in law was a man of little education but remarkable talents, one of which was the ability to hear a piece of music and replicate it without sheet music. It was his great honour once to be able to play the organ in
Liverpool Cathedral decades ago. We were fortunate to hear Ian Tracy, the great British organist, who came to our small but beautiful Welsh country church for a recital. An experience I’ll never forget. Thank you for posting this.
Betsy, thank you for your kind comment and for sharing your cherished stories. You might like this hymn sung by some folks in Cardiff: Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah. They have a few more people at this service than we usually have at ours 8>)
Oh THANK YOU!!!!!!! I adore that one. Have heard it in Welsh so many times, often sung, with great power and emotion, by the Male Voice Choirs…one of the best being The Treorchy Male Voice Choir. My heart is still in Wales. I’m going to listen to the link, whereupon there will be tears aplenty. THANK YOU!
Also in Welsh known as Cym Rhondda. I just listened, and as predicted tears, as the memories come flooding back after 20 years there.Thank you.
You might be interested in Youtubing the magnificent Welsh bass baritone Sir Bryn Terfel and the English bass baritone Simon Keenleyside singing the Welsh composer Karl Jenkins’ stunning short masterpiece AVE VERUM CORPUS.
I lived near the small town of Llangollen in North Wales, which each year hosts the International Eistedfordd, a renowned singing competition. Countries from all over the world compete rigorously for various awards, the most prestigious being The Choir of the Year. In 1956, a town in Italy produced the winning choir…one of its members was a very young Luciano Pavarotti. He returned to that competition at the end of his career to perform on the last night. So that’s where he started and ended a brilliant career.
Thanks Betsy.
You are really making my heart sing today. May God truly bless you?!! Diolch!!
(Welsh for thank you)

Oh well done… So well done. A million up votes if I could.
Ah…Myfanwy…it doesn’t get any more Welsh than this. You’re too kind.

Thank you so much, Sarah Lee. I so needed to laugh this morning!
it’s that time of year again garrison….. the full harvest moon .. ? ? ?
What a great video this is. It is filled with all manner of images (she was a waitress at restaurant near his ranch) from Neil and Pegi’s life. While I liked his music (especially Harvest Moon) the stories of his personal life show him to be a decidedly unpleasant person.
ELO still sounds like they did decades ago.

THE DIVINE RULE OF LIFE
“Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father in heaven is perfect.” Matthew v. 48
Our Lord’s exhortation in these verses is to be generous in our behaviour to all men. In the spiritual life beware of walking according to natural affinities. Everyone has natural affinities; some people we like and others we do not like. We must never let those likes and dislikes rule in our Christian life. “If we walk in the light as God is in the light,” God will give us communion with people for whom we have no natural affinity.
The Example Our Lord gives us is not that of a good man, or even of a good Christian, but of God Himself. “Be ye therefore perfect even as your Father in heaven is perfect,” show to the other man what God has shown to you; and God will give us ample opportunities in actual life to prove whether we are perfect as our Father in heaven is perfect. To be a disciple means that we deliberately identify ourselves with God’s interest in other people. “That ye love one another; as I have loved you…”
The expression of Christian character is not good doing, but God-likeness. If the Spirit of God has transformed you within, you will exhibit Divine characteristics in your life, not good human characteristics. God’s life in us expresses itself as GOD’s life, not a human life trying to be godly. The secret of a Christian is that the supernatural is made natural in him by the grace of God, and the experience of this works out in the practical details of life, not in times of communion with God. When we come in contact with things that create a buzz, we find to our amazement that we have power to keep wonderfully poised in the centre of it all.

Blast from the past…
How on earth do two different versions of the same song both make it big in the same year?
@ 3:09 “Searchin'” was the first ’45 I ever bought.
The other side, “Young Blood,” I couldn’t figure out.
Little side note about @3:48. While he was still a record executive in NYC (1970) and the song “Candida” by Dawn was breaking across the country, Tony Orlando (the anonymous singer) told me he was “trying to sound like my hero, Sam Cooke when I sang those “Whoa”s and “mmm”s on the record” @37,51 etc.
Can you hear it?

✟
“And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good…”
Genesis 1:31 (KJV)
Thank You, Jesus, for blessings received and prayers answered!!!
BE MY VOICE
A little tune I wrote last year, my co-writer, Larry Chaney made a vid of it on his YouTube channel. Cramping my style.
PRAYING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
Father God, I now follow your command to put on the full armor of God, because my battle is not against flesh and blood but against rulers, authorities, the powers of this dark world and against spiritual forces of evil in the unseen world.
I first pray on the Belt of Truth that it may be buckled around my waist, may I be centered and encircled by your truth dear Lord. Hem me inside all that is true and right, and may I be protected and held up by the truth of your living word, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Breastplate of righteousness, please protect my vital organs and my inner man, cover my integrity, my spirit, and my soul. Guard my heart for it is the wellspring of life, please strengthen and guard the most vulnerable places in my life with that which is right, good, and noble that I might not receive a fatal blow from the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Gospel Shoes of Peace. I choose to stand in the shoes of your good news, and on the firm foundation of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the solid eternal rock. All other ground is sinking sand, I pray that I will not slip or fall, but that my feet would be firmly fitted on your lordship, my Lord Jesus. I choose to stand on you, so that the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus, the eternal Rock of Ages. I receive your holy peace now my Lord, from the sole of my feet to the crown of my head, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray the Shield of Faith into my hand now. As I take up the shield of faith, I ask that you might extinguish every dart and arrow, that is launched from the enemy to take me down spiritually, physically, mentally, emotionally, and every attempt of the enemy to destroy my joy. I ask that my faith in you would make it flame out. Extinguish every flaming arrow that would come against me, my life, my family, my home, or my ministry. May my faith always be out in front of me like a shield. Give me the courage to “faith my fears” by choosing to walk by faith and not by sight, in my Lord Jesus name.
I pray on the Helmet of Salvation, that you might protect my mind from the thoughts that can lead me astray. I choose to take every thought captive, and arrest all intentioned ideas and motives that would harm others, or distract me from your holy will for me. I submit every captured thought to the Lordship of my Lord Jesus Christ, and ask that you would imprison those thoughts that are not of you my Lord. Transform my mind and renew my thinking that I may think God thoughts, and have a sober mind that is focused on your glory. Please protect me from being double minded that I may allow my mind, I reject to live an earthly life, because I choose to live a holy one, governed by you My Lord Jesus, the prince of peace, please have my mind to be saturated with the holy mind of Christ, in my Lord Jesus name.
Finally, I take up the Sword of the Spirit which is the holy word of God, I pray this powerful offensive weapon into my hand, and ask that your holy word would be fitting for every encounter I face. As the enemy gets close to me, please give me the insight, wisdom, and skill to wield the word of God to drive away the enemy, in my Lord Jesus name.
May the enemy and his team flee from me, upon hearing the word of God spoken by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit. Give me the sword of the spirit to cut through the wiles of the devil, so that I may discern the schemes of the enemy when he is near.
With all kinds of prayers, supplication, and intercession I pray to you my Lord God as the one who fights my battles. Now that I’m in your holy powerful armor, I walk away covered and ready to face my day as you go before me, and please protect me in the midst of the spiritual warfare in this unseen world, in my Lord Jesus name.
Thank you my Lord, for the spiritual weapons of armor and prayer that you have given me. It is written no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and you will refute every tongue that accuses me.
Thank you Father God, my Lord Jesus and the Holy Spirit, that I am more than a conqueror in my Lord Jesus. I pray all of this in the mighty name of my Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, amen.

So now it’s time to fear the fire and earth itself. They tell us that the earth is growing from the inside out and it has nothing to do with anything man is doing with their toys. Nothing. So don’t even suggest that. It has everything to do (they say) with the population who is breathing and by their living, creating global disturbances. Believe them not.

A great article you REALLY should read:

Jan, thanks for the link. It was worth reading.
Here is another good, if infuriating, one from AT:
“COVID has turned leftists into child abusers”
https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/09/covid_has_turned_leftists_into_child_abusers.html
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

lilbirdee12’s prayer:
Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.
Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.
Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and his family as they seek to lead America back to You. Also, we pray for Angels to protect and support our Sundance as he works for justice and peace.
Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.
We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.
In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

oday, I have it heavy on my heart to present another picture puzzle. One we NOW, AT LEAST MOST ALL, have four corners of, but the picture is far from completed. We have next to our four puzzle piece corners a stack of puzzle pieces laying in a BIG FAT PILE next to it. It looks like someone took the entire puzzle box and shook it out on the table.
Meanwhile, there are champion puzzle solvers who are holding rallyies and shouting to the ones looking at the pile of puzzle pieces. They are shouting things that sound good, but for those who are still looking at the corners, they are a bit lost and have no understanding where to start. To them the shouts sound like, “HERE IT IS – MAKE IT ALL FIT TOGETHER RIGHT NOW!” I want to shout, “Can someone at least show them the picture on the outside of the box? Throw them a bone here?”
