Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.
For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

If You Adore It, Adorn It! – Titus 2:10a
By Pastor Ricky Kurth
One morning as a boss finished parking his brand new Ferrari in the company parking lot, one of his employees pulled up and began staring at his new wheels in obvious envy. Seeing this, the boss said, “You know, if you work overtime every week, skip coffee breaks, and even work weekends and holidays, by this time next year—I just might have another one of these babies!”
As you know, working hard for your boss doesn’t always pay off the way it should. That’s why many Christian employees cringe when they hear their pastor do what Paul told Titus to do:
“Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things” (Titus 2:9).
Now to please a master well means to just delight him. We know this because God pre-dicted His Son would be a man “in whom My soul delighteth” (Isa. 42:1), but in quoting that verse Matthew translated “delighteth” as “well pleased” (Mt. 12:18). So in saying that servants should please their masters well, Paul was saying they should go above and beyond the call of duty of just obeying them. He was saying a servant should make himself an absolute delight to his master.
And while it’s true that Paul was telling slaves to obey their masters here, his words reflect the attitude that employees should have for their employers as well. Of course, it’s hard to follow a Pauline admonition like this when you’re not getting paid what you’re worth! Amen?
But slaves were paid nothing! Knowing this, Paul went on to explain that the reason servants should obey masters was to “adorn the doctrine of God” (Titus 2:10). To “adorn” means to beautify, as when we read of how the temple “was adorned with goodly stones” (Luke 21:5). So when a servant obeyed his master and pleased him well, it made the doctrine of God look beautiful.
But God has many doctrines. Which one did Paul have in mind? Well, when he specified that servants could adorn “the doctrine of God our Saviour,” that suggests he was thinking of the doctrine of salvation, for that phrase is associated with that doctrine (ITim.2:3,4; Titus 3:3-5). When Christian employees obey their bosses, it makes the doctrine of salvation look beautiful.
If you’re not sure how, consider that if saved servants didn’t obey their masters back then, it made the doctrine of salvation look bad. Throughout the Bible, God ordained respect for authority in all areas of life, knowing that without it the very fabric of society will begin to break down. So when a saved servant disobeyed his master in those days, people would have naturally thought, “If that’s what getting saved does to a servant, then the God who saved him must be in favor of the breakdown of society.” When servants obeyed instead, it adorned the doctrine of salvation.
And that’s why Paul told servants to obey their masters—not because they deserved it, for oftentimes they didn’t—but because it beautified God’s doctrine of salvation. Seeing servants reverence their masters, people could say, “If Christianity can make even a slave want to be a sheer delight to his master, it must be the most powerful religion in the world, the true religion of God.”
Finally, Paul tells us why servants should make salvation look good when he added,
“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men” (Titus 2:11).
Paul says servants should adorn the doctrine of salvation “for” the grace that bringeth salvation has appeared to all men. In the context, “all men” included “aged men” and “aged women,” “young women” and “young men” (v. 2-6)—the kind of men you work with! God wants His grace to appear to all such men. And since it cost Him the death of His Son to bring this grace to men, the last thing He needs is for employees who are saved by grace making salvation look bad.
You know what that means, don’t you? It means no matter who you are or what you do for a living, you have the most important job in the world—that of making the doctrine of God our Savior look beautiful. If you adore your salvation, why not adorn it by being a delightful employee?

Titus 2:9 Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering
Isaiah 42:1 ¶ Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
Matthew 12:18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles.
Titus 2:10 Not purloining, but shewing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.
Luke 21:5 ¶ And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
1 Timothy 2:3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Titus 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Titus 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
3 The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;
4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
6 Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded.
Found in the bin…. 🙁
I am an industrial consultant. I was called in to consult with a company that was struggling. As I was gathering information from key people at all levels I heard about the last union negotiations. They were long and contentious as those things sometimes are, but in the end the employees agreed to less than favorable terms and agreed to not strike. The contract was signed. The following week management leased seven brand new BMW’s for the management team as a “thank you” for the hard work they did on the contract. As an ultimate snub, they were delivered and parked in the management spots at the facility.
The company did not survive.
There’s some serious pickin’ going on in the bridge . . . 🙂
I Love his music but from what I have read Roy Orbison as a person was a real A-hole!

WARNING: The Fake News Media has determined that the following is part of The Big Lie.
After all the dust has (mostly) settled, here’s what I think happened January 6 in Washington, DC.
President Trump called for his supporters to rally (and did they ever! There were easily a Million people at the event and surroundings).
President Trump gave his rally speech at which he detailed all the inconsistencies, impossibilities, illegalities, improbabilities and obvious and apparent fraud and cheating in the election. He then asked his supporters to march to the Capitol to 1) show the Congress people how many American citizens and voters had serious doubts about the integrity, security, legality and fairness of the election, and 2) to encourage the Congress people to be strong, to have a backbone to contest the election in the swing states.
President Trump had planned to speak at a Rally set up on the Supreme Court side of the Capitol. That was all appropriate. In fact, Senators Hawley and Cruz and 140 Representatives had already committed to objecting to the electors from the swing states. It was a Long Shot to be sure, given that the Democrats would never allow a 10-day Emergency Audit that Senator Cruz proposed, but it was worth a shot, even if only for political theatre purposes.
Then disaster hit! The Capitol was breached BEFORE President Trump had even finished his speech at the Ellipse.
Was the MAGA March at the Capitol infiltrated? Yes. Were there Antifa, Black Lives Matter, Boogaloo Bois (not even sure who they are or what they stand for) acting as violent instigators, agitators and provocateurs in the crowd that breached the Capitol? Yes, there is video of John Sullivan, a known Black Lives Matter Activist, Civil Disobedience Organizer and Agitator videotaping himself after he entered the Capitol exhorting others that “We got to get this S**t Burned.”. There is video of Trump supporters physically preventing people from attempting to break windows at the Capitol.
Did some QAnon inspired Trump supporters enter the Capitol? Yes, the QAnon Shaman (guy in the Buffalo headdress with horns) and Ashli Babbitt, a 35-year-old U.S. Air Force veteran, who was shot and killed by a Capitol Police Officer guarding the barricaded Speaker’s Hallway were both QAnon followers.
Did “plain old” Trump supporters enter the Capitol? Yes, although for the most part they were polite and well-behaved and showed their respect for the Capitol, its artwork and history (walked between the velvet ropes).
Who was fighting with the Capitol Police inside and outside the Capitol?
Did the Capitol Police let the crowd in? Yes, there is video of Capitol Police standing resignedly against the walls of a hallway as Trump supporters flowed in. There is video of Capitol Police opening the Guard Gates and waving the crowd in.
Given all that was going on it’s difficult to determine who was to blame for what happened. But one thing that we know for certain is that it was NOT President Trump who incited the Armed Insurrection of Our Government by Domestic Terrorists.
Think about it, how many Rallies has candidate and then President Trump held? 100s? How many turned violent, even a little bit? None.
Bottom Line: President Trump and his supporters fell victim to a False Flag operation – Violent Outside Agitators, Instigators and Provocateurs (Antifa, BLM, Boogaloo Bois and who knows who else) broke into the Capitol under the banner of MAGA and gave President Trump and MAGA a Black Eye and initiated the Extremist Insurrection Fake News Narrative.
All true Hayseed but what happened to nancy’s laptop? Where’s the truth to that story? Just might be the most important thing that happened that day.
You might want to point out that it appears Pelosi and who knows who else, said they didn’t want extra police that day even though the leader wanted them. So, the Capitol Police opened the doors and let people in. They had to be instructed to do that. I believe it was all a set up by Pelosi and maybe even McConnel.
“He then asked his supporters to march to the Capitol”
And he said “And I’ll be there with you”. But he wasn’t. Instead he opted to get in a car with Rudy, Don, Jr. and Eric and he went back to the White House. Leaving his supporters to walk into a trap.
Why did he do that? Obviously he must have known what was going to happen so he avoided it, but why not let the supporters know?
You’re ignoring the obvious- the President and his group got word through his security detail that the incursion into the Capitol had already begun so he was driven away for clearly obvious security reasons and had NO WAY to instantly warn his million peaceful supporters to avoid going in.
Not buying it, GB. He could have used all that fancy audio visual equipment. He could have sent word by runners. He could have TWEETED, for God’s sake, even if he had to use another account. In fact that’s what he DID do, when he got back to the WH. Tweeted about Mike Pence. NOTHING about the incursion.
.
No, he couldn’t have reached the masses. That’s wishful thinking. He’d already been cut off of most social media and I’m 100% certain that the his security was only concerned about rushing him away from potential danger, not sending messages to the public. There is still a lot of information about events behind the scenes that day that hasn’t been publicized. HIS security people made a last minute change of plans. The facts don’t change regardless of whether you “buy” it.
Please pray for the two cops in SW VA.
I see Donald Trump is reluctant to let go of the prize he thinks he’s won fair and square – the Republican Party. He does not wish to embrace the Patriot Party, or any other third party.
Reasonable enough, but the Republican Party is infected with a terminal cancer. It is destined to die, and soon. A political party that stands for nothing, that believes in nothing, except greasing the wheels of the opposing party, cannot be sustained.
The elderly Republicans, like McConnell and Grassley, are marking time. Romney and Graham regard themselves as essential to the functioning of American government: McCain had the same delusion. Most of them, of course, are in it for the money. The big donors would not pay for the services Trump was providing. Easy choice for the Decepticons.
The Uniparty clings to the fantasy that money spent on advertising brings electoral success: if that were true, Michael Bloomberg would now be President of the United States. American capitalism, America’s ruling class is wedded to a blind faith in advertising. There is no greater fantasy in American culture. Perhaps Trump’s rejection of this fantasy is the number one reason he scared them, and alienated them, oh so much.
Just say’n… 😉
Trump’s “prize” is not
the republican party;
it’s “We The People”.
What I’d like Trump to do is enlist people for the movement who do not speak of MAGA –like it or not, that’s a death sentence to gaining new people and Trump should understand branding.
People here might not like it either, but what we’re trying to do is GROW the number of people who believe in the principles for which Trump/MAGA fought and are still fighting.
Unfortunately, brands come with positive and negative associations. We need to GROW the number of people who say, “Yeah, I agree with all that and I’ll vote for people who believe that.” If you attach “Trump” to all those principles, you attach the negative with the positive and we’re back to square one.
Now, I know that Donald J. Trump, the businessman, is fond of branding anything and everything he has put his money and name into as ‘TRUMP” but this isn’t a business venture. It’s a fight for the soul AND THE VOTES of a nation and branding it as a TRUMP enterprise or as its synonym MAGA, is not a way to GROW, to expand into the Democrat and Indy voting bases.
Have you ever tried to get a Chevy guy to admit that Honda and Toyota and Nissan and Hyundai manufacture good cars, that were it not for Honda and Toyota finally learning what it was in styling that Americans wanted in cars and increasing their share of sale in the USA that GM and Ford would still be producing the crap they were shoving out the door in the 70s? That competition is GOOD for the consumer?
I know men who stood by claiming GM put out the best products in the world when GM itself was admitting to problems, while GM workers could tell you what was going on in labor and in management, while those guys had to go to the auto shops to purchase new parts, expensive ones, year after year while saying, “You have to expect that with cars.” BS. People HOLD ONTO BRANDS. Unfortunate, but true.
The movement that Trump is a part of needs to expand. Yes, I know he won the election but the crap the Dems are throwing out there need to be the things Americans feel free to ridicule.
Think of the Dems you know who do not believe a transgender male to female should be able to compete in women’s sports.
Think of the Dems you know who don’t believe a job in government should be awarded to a minority because he or she is a minority–that’s exactly what Susan Rice said yesterday when she said they were going to make the first requirement of hiring EQUITY, not equality..
Imagine in America a person standing up and saying that and the press acting as if it made sense or was good for the country. Expertise doesn’t matter.
And all the while, most Americans understand the real reasons blacks don’t do well socioeconomically across the board and it has nothing to do with systemic racism. It has to do with things no one wishes to talk of in polite company,
Susan Rice was able to get up there an talk totalitarianism and show her racism because the Dem party has been successful in their branding.
I hope our POTUS understands the importance of NOT trying to be the brand. That will only get us so far and it’s not far enough.
Just say’n… 😉
“The movement that Trump is a part of needs to expand. Yes, I know he won the election but the crap the Dems are throwing out there need to be the things Americans feel free to ridicule.”
I freely ridicule the demonrats. 😉
The President has not messaged that himself nor has Don Jr. Thats a report from third hand sources that hasn’t been verified by President Trump. I’d wait concluding anything until we hear directly and irrefutably from him.
I know we’re suppose to be “positive” on here. But….I’m not finding much to be “positive” about.
I just cannot believe Trump handed us over to domestic commies/enemies & to China. And now we’re suppose to get excited about some new “Think Tanks” Trump’s throwing together to oust the RINO’s in 2 years? I got news for ya….within 2 years….our country will be unrecognizable at this rate. Look what’s taken place in just 6 days! On top of that…we don’t even have the military “leadership” on our side. Otherwise….they would’ve done their job and upheld the oath they swore to…to protect us from enemies both foreign & domestic.
Sitting back and doing nothing…because we fear if we react then we give the left reason to take our weapons…is only going to slow the inevitable. We are being led to the slaughter. Why are we sitting back behind our keyboards….and doing nothing??? What are we waiting for??? Why aren’t millions of us rising up?! Our forefathers would be absolutely disgusted by our non action…in my opinion..
Oh wow, so you think Trump was supposed to save the world after we let it get trashed over the last 4 decades?
No, just the USA. But I realized that wasn’t going to happen in 2019.
Just say’n… 😉
“On top of that…we don’t even have
the military “leadership” on our side.”
Peddle your BS elsewhere.
GFY! Just say’n…
“I just cannot believe Trump handed us over to domestic commies/enemies & to China”
You’ll have to get better at trolling. It’s fine to criticize but at least try to find something that’s true. “Hand over” is the biggest tell. You’re bad at this.
Trump was the only guy in DC who was trying to pry America from China. It was the primary reason he ran.
Go back to Dem TROLL SCHOOL.
H.M.P.D. is not a troll. Obviously, with all the news out today, they are in agony wondering what the heck happened. Instead of addressing the issues and questions, you are resorting to ad-hominem attacks. It’s not a good look among conservatives or those on the right. It amounts to eating your own. And that’s what happens when people in opposing groups feel frightened and impotent to do anything to do anything about their enemies. They start looking for one of their own to bash, because they can’t get at the people who so desperately deserve it.
So don’t do that. Sundance says “seek first to understand”.
“I just cannot believe…..”
Good. Trust your instincts. Of course President Trump did not just hand us over to our enemies. But we are also not helpless infants. We need to stay awake and aware and act in our best interests instead of the DemoCommunists’ interests.
VE day, May 8th, 1945 and the points system for going home, And an experience I had when I went to Ft. Benning to become a paratrooper.
Yet Americans continued to die in Europe. The initial phase of occupation was a dangerous time. Lawlessness abounded and die hard Nazi’s were still on the loose. Large areas had yet to be cleared of mines. And of course young men tended to party and discipline suffered.
In the months months after VE day the US Army sorted out who had to stay for occupation. Who would be shipped home and allowed to be discharged from the service. And who would be slated to be shipped to the Pacific to take part in the invasion of Japan.
The descriminator in this sorting process was a points system. The points system came about because of the inequity of the system used during WW I that determined which Dough Boys would come home first. After WW I the Army just selected the Divisions to go home first and it did not matter if that Division was made up of a large number of replacements that had recently arrived in France.
So the points system, while not perfect by any means, did make the process much fairer by determining the fates of individual soldiers.
For a soldier to be set for immediate shipment home and discharge he had to have 85 points.
Here is how it worked:
1. One point for every month in service in the period Sep. 1940-May 1945. Plus and additional point for every month served overseas during that period.
2. Five points for every battle star signifying a military campaign the soldier participated in.
3. Five points for each award for valor (Bronze star, Silver Star, etc.) and 5 points for each Purple Heart.
4. Twelve points for each dependent child a soldier had.
The major problems with the system is that it made no distinction between the men that had actually fought in combat and those that had spent their time in support in the communications zone or even further back in England or some other relatively safe post except in the case when a soldier had earned an award for valor. For the system to be really fair those who had faced the enemy in combat should have been given priority over the rear echelon, but they were not. Also the system made no distinction between a man having 100 points and one making the minimum of 85.
Certain Divisions were slated to go to the Pacific to fight. Men with enough points were striped out of those Divisions and reassinged to Divisions that were slated to be deactivated. Usually this did not pose that great of a problem for maintaining an experienced core in Divisions slated to see more combat. But in certain cases it did and so certain individuals that had skills deemed critical and in short supply were classified as “essential personnel” and were forced to remain in the service despite having more than the minimum number of points for discharge.
Though the US Army had suffered a significant shortage of Infantry in Europe during the last year of the war, so much so that even large numbers of those who volunteered to be pilots or aircrew were reclassified and made infantrymen and incentives of rank were offered to existing troops in support jobs to get them to become infantry, no Infantrymen were deemed to be essential personnel and forced to remain in the service.
Last weekend I binge watched all 10 segments of ‘The Band of Brothers’. I believe that 10 part seriies to be the best cinematic presentation of what infantry went through during the war produced so far. The last episode centers around points and waiting to go home and the way things were during the immediate post war period for those awaiting their fates.
My father served in the 101st Airborne in the mid 1950s. Though a draftee, he volunteered to go Airborne because of the $55.00 a month jump pay and because he would be sent to Ft. Campbell, KY which was relatively close to home,
I volunteered to be an SF medic from the start. As such I was a triple volunteer. I volunteered for the Army. I volunteered for Airborne. And I volunteered for Special Forces.
After basic training at Ft. Jackson, SC and Basic Combat Medic training at Ft. Sam Houston, TX I was sent to Ft. Benning, GA for Jump School. All SF qualified soldiers must first be Airborne qualified and so before I went on for Special Forces training I had to complete Jump School.
Upon arrival at Jump school as I was setting up my locker andmaking my bunk a runner from the Company HQ found me and told me I was to report to the the training Battalion HQ. I reported and was directed to the Training Battalions Sgt. Majors office. I knocked, was told to enter, and standing there was Art Hill. Art Hill had been a friend of my Dad’s in the 101st. He would babysit me when Mom & Dad went out.
SGM Hill and I talked a bit and he warned me not to let anyone know that he knew me or otherwise the Airborne instructors and cadre known as “Black Hats” would single me out and dog me during the training. He also invited me to come stay at his home when I got a weekend off.
Jump School consists of 4 weeks. Morning inspections, followed by lots of physical training and then general harassment throughout the training for the rest of the day are the order of the day during all phases of the training until the final week. .
The first week is called “zero week” and consists of a lot of PT and doing details around the school.
The second week is when the training really begins and is called “Ground Week” and consists of being hung or swinging from various apparatus, learning how to do a PLF (Parachute Landing Fall), how to deal with the chute once on the ground, and getting to know the equipment in general.
The third week is known as “Tower Week” and consists of learning the actions to take and not to take in the aircraft, the proper aircraft exit technique when jumping, emergency procedures, and jumps from the 30 ft. tower tower week airborne school – Bing images and then being hauled up the 250 ft. tower and released under canopy to float down. tower week airborne school – Bing images
The final week is “Jump Week” and the trainee makes five jumps from various aircraft at least one of which will be a night jump. Jump week ends when after the final jump the trainees are put in formation right on the drop zone and the jump wings are pinned upon their chest.
Monday of Tower week was most interesting week for me in a couple ways. First off another trainee came in with a bandage on his shoulder and since we did PT in our T-shirts the Black Hats saw it. As we stood in formation the guy was right in front of me. The trainee was ordered to take the bandage off so the Black Hats could assess his “injury” before he did PT. They knew exactly what was going on and when that dumb kid removed that bandage it revealed a brand new tattoo that said “Airborne Ranger”. What an idiot. In an instant half a dozen Black Hats surrounded that kid and he was doing grass and gorilla drills with all those Black Hats yelling at him. In less than five minutes the moron quit and we never saw him again.
Also that morning I was gigged (found to have failed to make standards) for not doing the required number of pull ups properly during PT. I knew that was BS. I had done them correctly but you don’t argue with a Black Hat. So. I along with all the others that had been found wanting in one way or another that morning were marched into the gig pit. There were about 20 of us and we did grass and gorilla drills in the saw dust. The Black Hat release each trainee individually and I was the very last to be released. Obviously they had found out I knew Art Hill.
The forth and final week was Jump Week. On my first Jump Art showed up and said he was going to make my first jump with me. He would go out the door first and I would follow. I had done a little sky diving before I enlisted and so I knew I could handle the jumps. But my civilian jumps had all been made at 3,000 ft above ground level or more. Static line military jumps during peace time are generally done at 800 ft. AGL (though later in SF there were a couple times I know we jumped at about 600 ft. AGL when there were winds that were higher than the maximum stipulated by regulations for peace time training jumps) and that was a bit different for me.
When I hustled in to the assembly area at the edge of the Drop Zone (You rarely walked anywhere at Jump school, you either ran or marched) after my last jump to drop off my chute and get in formation for the awarding of wings I was shocked to see my parents there. Dad pinned his silver wings upon my chest. (The wings during dads day were solid sterling silver, the wings during my day were just hollow stampings). It was a very proud day for me.
The 2nd Infantry Regiment of the 5th Infantry Division in the Battle of the Bulge.
I. Introduction.
Many people don’t know that a lot of heavy combat during the Battle of the Bulge occurred in Luxembourg along the southern shoulder and flank of the bulge the German attack formed. In April and May of 1986 I was in the area. I had a chance to visit many of the sights around the Bulge including Diekirch and its wonderful Battle of the Bulge Museum. That Museum started out as a small tribute to what happened there with local towns people bringing in materials they had saved from the battlefields around the area. Over the years it has now grown to become the largest and best museum for the Battle of the Bulge with one of the greatest assemblies of WWII American and German equipment of all museums in the world.
Diekirch, Luxembourg was the central location for the German defense of the southern shoulder of the offensive. Diekirch is a wonderful picturesque town on the banks of the Sauer river. The country around it to south is hilly and rugged ridgelines running basically east-west with a lot of woods broken clear areas. To the north the country gradually turns into rolling open terrain.
As one might remember Patton pulled several divisions of his 3rd Army out of an active offensive down in the Lorraine sector of France and moved them 100 miles north to attack the southern flank of the bulge. It was one of the greatest feats of arms in history. Taking men that had been fighting hard for months to take the great fortresses complex of Metz and then after taking those massive fortifications they were starting their offensive to the east through the west wall and drive into Germany.
Disengaging those men and their equipment from a battle, and making the logistical arrangements for them to move north was a feat that many of Patton’s peers and even Eisenhower thought impossible to do so quickly. Then those men would be expected to move quickly north pushing through the most severe winter weather the region had experienced in a century and moving 100 miles on ice covered snowy roads with Germans using demolitions to try and block their advance.
No hot food, no shelter, no sleep, inadequate winter clothing, and roads so slick that vehicles, even tanks, slid off the roads or could not climb the hills. In some places the roads were so slick that engineers cut down trees and laid them over the hard surface of the roads to form corduroy roads for the vehicles to make it through. In other places they cut massive amounts of pine bows and covered the ice with them to help the vehicles gain traction. In other places they hacked lines to form icy treads in the ice. What ever it took to keep the troops and vehicles moving was done no matter how bad the weather or what time of day it was.
And then, after all of that, the men went right into combat attacking an enemy in prepared defensive positions in hilly terrain, in the middle of heavy snows. Nothing like it has ever been recorded in the history of warfare. Many characterize the feat as George Patton’s tour de force. Well it was, but the whole battle was a tour de force of the United States Army and Army Air Corp.
II. The Regiment moves from one battle to another.
Here I will describe the experience of the 2nd Infantry Regiment of the 5th Infantry Div. which made that march and then went right on into the attack. Eventually they had to cross the Sauer River to take the heavy German defenses in Diekirch located right on the opposite side of the river and breach the German defenses of the southern flank of their great salient known as “the bulge”.
Patton had several Divisions in his 3rd Army that based on past experience, he favored for use as sledge hammers to accomplish the difficult and most critical tasks. A couple of these divisions were the 4th Armored Div. which was the Division that eventually relieved the surrounded 101st Abn. Division at Bastogne. And the Red Diamonds, of the 5th Infantry Division which he aimed at the shoulder of the Bulge, including Diekirch to push the Germans back and secure that shoulder upon which all of his other advances further to the west against the Germans depended.
Most histories of the Battle of the Bulge depict the German fight on the southern side of the bulge as a purely defensive one. It wasn’t. They were constantly attacking to try and expand the base of the bulge south and continued to do so until the 22nd of December when Patton’s reinforcements arrived. The more ground they took, the more secure that flank was for their forces advancing west into Belgium to the north.
The German 7th Army on the south of the Bulge however were not equipped to make the fast dashes that the Panzer units aimed at Brussels did as they advanced to the west. Unlike the Panzer divisions to the north the divisions used in the south were not mechanized. They had tanks of course but the bulk of their infantry were foot soldiers and relied on horse drawn carts for transport of equipment and supplies. But that did not mean that that Army did not have good troops and did not attack. They most certainly did attack, and they kept aggressively trying to push further south and widen the bulge until they were stopped by force of arms.
The US Infantry Division that took the shock of the attack initially was the 4th infantry division. The 4th, you may remember, had come ashore on Utah Beach on D-day and they had been in the thick of the fighting for most of the time since then. They had been moved up to Luxembourg, then a quiet sector, to rest and recuperate and receive and train replacements. Then the German attack came and the still depleted 4th was in the thick of it desperately fighting to survive and hold the southern shoulder of the bulge and keep the Germans from advancing to the south. It was this Division that the Red Diamonds would relieve and then would attack the Germans to drive them back.
On Dec. 18th and 19th the 2nd IR (Infantry Regiment) was attacking the outer defenses of the West wall at Saarlautern. During those two days of heavy fighting they had taken 232 buildings and 5 German pillboxes from the outer defenses of Hitler’s west wall. They were scheduled to continue the attack the next morning but orders came down cancelling the attack. That was the first indication that the troops of the regiment had that something unusual was going on. Although they didn’t know it at the time Patton had already started the process of moving north by sending the 19th and 80th Infantry divisions northward. The 10th Armored Division had already been sent north before that.
By noon on the 20th the 2nd IR was preparing to move north.
On the 21st the 5th Division had been transferred from Patton’s XX Corp, to his VII Corp, commanded by General Eddy signaling that they would move north towards that command. By 04:00 on the 22nd the 2nd Regiment had been relieved their area of responsibility near Saarlautern and began the trek to the north in overcrowded trucks, tanks, and jeeps. Over the next 22 hours in brutal winter weather with fog and constant snow pelting them causing near zero visibility they moved 100 miles over frozen winding roads transiting portions of three countries and reached Luxembourg City.
By this time even the lowliest foot soldier in the 2nd IR knew that something big was up. Patton didn’t pull whole Divisions out a successful attack that was just starting the yield results and move them 100 miles to fight somewhere else without a good reason.
III. Arrival on the southern flank and shoulder of the Bulge and the fight begins.
On Dec. 23rd the 2nd IR relieved the 12th IR of the 4th Division in a relatively open area near Berdorf, Luxembourg. Late on Christmas Eve morning they began their attack. It was brutal with some companies only advancing only 200 yards that day because fallen timber and hilly terrain provided perfect defensive positions for the German defenders.
Through out the battle all American units would enjoy a great superiority in artillery support over the German defenders. The Americans had what seemed unlimited guns and the ammunition to feed them and by this point in the war the skill of the US Army artillerists was second to none in the world. They also enjoyed massive air superiority to support their operations on the ground. But the weather had not cooperated. The weather was so nasty that planes could not fly or could not see to attack targets on the ground from the time the Germans attacked opened on the 17th of December until finally on Christmas day when the dawn showed clear skies for a time. Unfortunately though, when the skies did clear the US Army Air Corp was not yet oriented as to where the front lines were, and the relative positions of the Germans and Americans along the fluid ever changing front. So on Christmas day the 2nd IR suffered a damaging attack from their own P-47 aircraft that mistook them for Germans.
The immediate mission of the 5th Infantry Division was to push the Germans back across the Sauer River. It was a war of attrition and the losses to both the Americans and German defenders were severe.
For the 2nd IR the fight was on a north south axis aimed between the towns of Ettelbruck and Diekirch. Taking one ridgeline, resting and preparing and doing patrols at night to feel out the enemy positions and then the next day attacking the next ridgeline. It was all done in knee deep snow in below freezing temperatures. And the Germans defended each ridgeline.
Night patrols in any weather are a very dangerous but essential business and the least favorite regular task for most infantrymen. More often than not enemy contact would occur and more often than not it would be the patrol that was detected by the defenders first since they were moving through unfamiliar terrain in the dark. When there is heavy enemy fire directed at them the human instinct is to lay down and take cover but often this was the worst thing to do because the enemy could then keep you pinned down and knowing your position walk artillery or mortar fire right into your position and maneuver with a superior force to cut off retreat. So the only answer many times is to brave the small arms fire and maneuver to get the hell out of there as quickly as possible. Now imagine doing that in knee deep snow at night in a place where you have never been before and then having to drag any wounded your patrol has suffered with you while doing so.
On Christmas night the Germans facing off against the 2nd IR celebrated by unleashing a heavy bombardment with what the GIs called “Screaming Mimmies”. These were Nebelwerfer rockets. These MLRs (Multiple Rocket Launchers) could lay out rapid fire and the sound they made was frightening. Many a GI who suffered through a barrage of these rockets had to change their pants afterwards if they had something to change into. American artillery responded with White Phosphorus rounds fired at the rocket launchers and the German positions. White Phosphorus or “Willie Pete” rounds shower that hot burning substance down on those around where the shell explodes. The chunks and particles and even flakes of the stuff burns right down through the clothing and into the skin and keeps on burning down deeper into the body despite contact with fluids. It only stops burning into the flesh when it burns out or is removed. Many a GI who saw the effect of their WP rounds on the enemy were thankful that the Germans had very few of this type of round available for their own mortars and artillery.
At 05:00 on the 26th the 2nd IR jumped of on attack to take the town of Berdorf. For once the Germans were taken by surprise and over 100 were captured as the Regiment took the southern half of the town on the south side of the Sauer River. The enemy on the north side of the town quickly figured out what was happening and began bombarding the south side with mortars, rockets, and artillery. The fight for the town went on for another 21 hours until finally the last of the Germans were killed, or captured or driven out of the town at 02:00 on Dec. 27th.
During this period Patton’s 3rd Army was suffering a severe depletion in foot soldiers. Patton ordered that 5% of all rear echelon troops in his Army be converted to infantry and sent as replacements to his infantry units at the front. So the ranks of the 2nd IR and all the other infantry regiments in the 3rd Army fighting in the bulge started receiving replacements that had been anti aircraft gunners, and non essential HQ and supply types.
These new replacements, though experienced soldiers in many cases, were not infantrymen and they had to learn the ropes under the tutelage the experienced infantrymen of the units they were assigned to in battle.
One problem with this massive transfer was that a number of the replacements were NCOs. Many of them, realizing that they were not ready to lead infantrymen, did the wise thing and gave up their ranks to become privates, but some refused and thus they would be expected to lead squads and patrols despite their inexperience. Being an NCO in an infantry line unit is a higher risk job than being a rifleman. Your expected lead and take care of your men, and you are expected to lead from the front. That is why even very brave hero’s like Audi Murphy refused time and again to be promoted. They didn’t want the responsibility for so many other mens lives. Many an experience infantryman refused promotion time and again because they had personally witnessed time and again that their buddies that did take the job ended up dead.
During the time that the 2nd IR was attacking to clear the enemy from the south side of the Sauer River in their sector there were several instances when the came in contact with Germans wearing American uniforms. In several cases men in the 2nd IR were killed by Germans using this deception. None of the Germans wearing American uniforms that were captured by the 2nd IR ever got back to the rear areas. They were all summarily executed by the infantry troops that captured them with no trial or firing squad needed. In fact there were a lot of German soldiers that were captured in their proper uniform that never saw the inside of the POW cage. By that time the rumors of German atrocities at Malmady and other incidents, real and imagined, were well known to the men of the 2nd IR and often when no one could be spared to take the prisoners to the rear they were exterminated.
Soon the German soldiers were referring to the 5th Infantry Div as the “bloody diamond” which what their fathers and grandfathers had called it during WW I.
IV. Mission accomplished and time for a rest.
Now the 2nd IR of the 5th Inf. Division had achieved its initial mission of pushing the Germans back to the north side of the Sauer River. The southern flank and shoulder of the Bulge in their area of responsibility was secure and the German 7th Army was now completely on the defense. With the main German effort to the north having failed to reach it’s objectives and faltering the Germans on the southern flank were unlikely to attack and expected to just try and hold what ground they still held. The 2nd IR had a short rest as other units on their flanks worked to reach their objectives. But the whole time they could see the Germans a few hundred yards away in their houses or positions on the north side of the Sauer River and knew that sooner or later they would have to cross that cold fast flowing river and take the German strong point at Diekirch.
At times during the two weeks the 2nd IR rested the weather became so bitterly cold that both sides called an unofficial truce and lighted fires out in the open to keep warm. Though there was little fighting during this period the casualties still mounted. Trench foot and frostbite claimed their toll almost daily. By this time, despite Patton’s replacement scheme, the infantry units were well under strength. Men that were sick and would have normally been admitted to the hospital were given pills and sent back the front line.
V. An early morning in hell
The rest ended on January 18th, 1945. Two battalions of the 2nd IR would assault across the river. The 1st Bn would cross just north of Diekirch and the 2nd Bn cross a short distance to the south between Diekirch and Ingeldorf. The Regiments 3rd Bn would lay down covering fire for the assaulting Battalions and then follow them across. Snow had been falling since the previous day and there was well over a foot of snow on the ground. The temperature would be about 16 deg. F at 03:00 when the attack began. The Sauer River would have been frozen if it was not running so high and swift. In an attempt to achieve surprise there would be no artillery barrage to cover the crossing. The German unit defending that section was 914th Regiment of the 352nd Volksgrenadier Division and they were ready and waiting.
The plan called for the 1st Bn to cross in boats and the 2nd battalion to cross on a foot bridge to be constructed by combat engineers. As it normal in combat operations the plans had to be changed. The German fire was far to effective for the engineers to build the bridge. Man after man was picked off by the Germans before they even had half the spans down and so it was decided that the 2nd Bn would cross in boats. The problem was that the defenders were not fully alert and all preparations and the crossing done under fire. Quickly the available Army assault boats, rubber rafts, and any civilian craft that could be used were assembled.
The men dragged and pushed the boats through the deep snow down the river bank . As they did the Germans opened fire with pre-sighted machine guns and could see the Americans just fine because they fired flares to illuminate them as they started to cross. The 3rd Battalion laid into the German defenders with everything they had to try and provide covering fire for the assaulting teams but the Volksgreandiers were on the opposite shore in large number and had constructed well built firing positions.
It was chaos! Men screaming in pain. Fire crossing over the river from both sides. And then the Germans started laying down accurate mortar fire that made direct hits on several of the boats. The wounded men burdened by heavy weapons and equipment that ended up in the water didn’t have a chance in the freezing fast current of the Sauer.
Once the survivors made it over the other side they set off trip flares the Germans had placed, there by giving their positions away to the Germans. It was a miracle that any of them survived. But those that did went to work laying down more covering fire for the surviving boats to return and bring more men across. And then the engineers finally were able to finish their bridging job and the flood of reinforcements started coming across. The 2nd Bn lost the equivalent of a whole company making the crossing. 16 men and 1 officer killed, 81 wounded, and 30 missing in the icy Sauer River.
The 2nd IR continued the attack to take the high ground south of Diekirch. The Germans had put mines and booby traps everywhere! By the end of the day on the 20th January the Americans had taken Deikrich. In the town they found the bodies of six Americans the Germans had captured and executed each with a single shot to the back of the head.
The Germans had also murdered over a dozen of the towns people, men, women, and children, who had been fingered as collaborators with the Americans. Once the town was taken the citizens of Diekirch took matters into their own hands and the people that had fingered their fellow citizens were led out of town and executed. Others that had collaborated with the Germans but not fingered their fellow citizens were later tried and some of those convicted sentenced to life in prison. The women that had slept with German soldiers got the Dutch treatment and had their heads shaved.
VI. The beginning of the end.
By January 21st the Germans knew they had lost. Many of their vehicles had to be abandoned for lack of gas and they began their retreat making their way the best way they could back to the Fatherland and the temporary protection of the west wall.
The 5th Infantry Division had plenty of heavy fighting still ahead. It would have to assault across the Sauer River one more time but that would be to enter Germany. They would take Frankfort Germany and some of the help clear out the German pocket of the resistance in the Ruher. Before it was over they would end up all the way down in Austria and Czechoslovakia having penetrated further east than any other Allied infantry Division before being ordered back to allow the Soviets to take the land.

Record Heat Of January 26, 1950Posted on January 26, 2021 by tonyheller
On this date in 1950, 24 states were over 70 degrees.
[It is easy to imagine what we would be hearing if this happened to day. The doomsday alarmists would be having a fit.]

How pathetic:
A real quick search using the words “History of New York Hurricanes” Yielded many hits, including this one: Historic Hurricanes in New York Over 100 Years timeline | Timetoast timelines
It is pathetic that the Governor of NY doesn’t have a clue of his own states history or blatantly lies about it. What is even more pathetic are the people that believe him!
Actually, on average, states in the deep south have a higher fatality rate from tornadoes than states in Tornado alley. I figure it is because they are less likely to see them coming than those that live in the wide open spaces of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, etc.

The largest I lived through was in South Carolina in 1973. We had no warning. Lots has changed since then.
Our weather has been 20s-30s at night and 50s during day. We can have a rain with day time temps in the 70s this time of year and it spawns these funnel clouds pretty quickly.
We would see funnel clouds driving from east to Wyoming on our springtime trips. Lots of flat, open land in these areas down the interstate.
The south has lots of trees and when the storms hit at night, we can’t see the warning clouds. We stay close to the weather radios!
When I had cable, the Weather Channel wouldn’t even have us in a tornado warning until it was on us. That’s when I realized I need to get my weather reports from online or radio.
. . . but deliver us from the Evil One.

LOOK AGAIN AND THINK
“Take no thought for your life.” Matt. vi. 25
A warning which needs to be reiterated is that the cares of this world, the deceitfulness of riches, and the lust of other things entering in, will choke all that God puts in. We are never free from the recurring tides of this encroachment. If it does not come on the line of clothes and food, it will come on the line of money or lack of money; of friends or lack of friends; or on the line of difficult circumstances. It is one steady encroachment all the time, and unless we allow the Spirit of God to raise up the standard against it, these things will come in like a flood.
“Take no thought for your life.” “Be careful about one thing only,” says our Lord – “your relationship to Me.” Common sense shouts loud and says – “That is absurd, I MUST consider how I am going to live, I MUST consider what I am going to eat and drink.” Jesus says you must not. Beware of allowing the thought that this statement is made by One Who does not understand our particular circumstances. Jesus Christ knows our circumstances better than we do, and He says we must not think about these things so as to make them the one concern of our life. Whenever there is competition, be sure that you put your relationship to God first.
“Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.” How much evil has begun to threaten you today? What kind of mean little imps have been looking in and saying – Now what are you going to do next month – this summer? “Be anxious for nothing,” Jesus says. Look again and think. Keep your mind on the “much more” of your heavenly Father.

To Ponder
Let me ponder on the compassion of the Lord Jesus:
1. Towards sinners and the sick.
2. Towards the people, who were confused as sheep without a shepherd.
3. Towards mankind as a whole, for whom He gave Himself to be crucified.
From “The Prologue from Ochrid” by Saint Nikolai (Serbian-born Bishop who reposed in the USA and was a former prisoner in Dachau) for January 14th Church Calendar / January 27th civil calendar.
Homily by Saint Nikolai from “The Prologue from Ochrid”
– on the vision of the unseen world.
“We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen.” (2 Cor. 4: 18)
We see this material and transitory world, but we look to that spiritual and immortal world.
We see earthly joy, often cut short by tears and sighing, finally and inevitably ending in death, but we look to spiritual joy among the angels and Saints of God in heaven, to unbroken and eternal joy.
We see the sufferings and failures of the righteous in this life, but we look to their glory and triumph in the other world.
We see much success, glory and honour for the unrighteous in this life, but we look to their defeat, condemnation and unspeakable torment in eternity.
We see the Church of God often humiliated and persecuted in this world, but we look to her victory over all her enemies and adversaries, visible and invisible.
We see, my brethren, tyrants and abductors, often as the rulers and the rich in this age, and the Saints as nobodies, distressed and forgotten, but we look to another kingdom, in which the Saints will reign, with not one tyrant or abductor: the kingdom of God, eternally sinless and immortal.
O long-suffering and most merciful Lord, open our spiritual eyes that we may see that which awaits us after this brief life, that we may strive to fulfill Thy commandments. To Thee be glory and praise for ever. Amen.

Scenes Beyond the Grave – Marietta Davis
Chapter II – Man At Death
2:3
While passing the intermediate she touched me again, and I became conscious of additional and expanded vision.
“Behold,” said she, “the countless, planetary hosts. Mark the rolling orbs, suns, and systems of suns, moving in silence and harmony. The vast expanse is occupied and peopled with universes, constructed in infinite wisdom. These are inhabited by holy beings, happy and immortal, though varied in degree of development and refined spirituality.”
Again the organs of perception were touched, and lo! above and around me, and far in the distance, were passing and repassing with the quickness of thought, spirits of pure light.
“These,” said my guided, “are ministering angels; their supreme delight is to go upon errands of mercy. Their home is with the ever blest. They are employed as guardian protectors and messengers of holy thought to those in conditions below them”
While beholding them ascend and descend, one drew near me, in whose arms, and borne upon whose angelic bosom, was an infant spirit. The angel passed, and I saw that the nourished nestling rested in calm security, apparently conscious of its safety in the hands of its protector. Whence came this? I inquired; and the angel answered, “I received it from a heart-broken mother at the gateway of death, as the spark of life expired in the external world, and am conveying it to the sphere of infancy in the paradise of peace.”
As the infant’s guardian spirit proceeded, we moved silently in the same direction, until the scenes below perished from my vision, and my being was absorbed in the bright light descending from the orb we were approaching. Soon we entered a plain, whereon were visible trees, bearing fruit. Their interwoven branches formed an arched canopy of evergreen above us. Passing through these shadowy groves, I was delighted with the melody of the birds, whose warbling notes arose in sweetest song. There we paused. Supposing that I was on some terrestrial orb I inquired its name.

Matt 10;16
I send you out among wolves. Be as shrewd as serpents and harmless as doves.
People congregate around benefits. Cities, towns, gatherings.
What is God offering?
They cannot see heaven or hell, they have carnal minds, eyes that are spiritually blind.
The ‘church’ is corrupt by earthly benefits, absent of heavenly benefits.
How do you bridge that gap?
Shrewdness is an asset, not a defect. Wisdom does not equal dishonesty. Innocence does not equal gullibility.
The benefits of this world cannot take precedence over God, but Gods power must be in the church. His benefits.
When you take away the ‘power’ to do miracles. Be it tongues, prophecy, healings, you leave only the law.
When a man is faced with opportunity he achieves. He ‘will’ rise to the challenge.
To say there are no miracles in this ‘time’ or ‘dispensation’ is not biblical and takes all opportunity away and challenge in this life.
Man was created by God. That desire to achieve was for his purpose not ours, we are the
beneficiaries. To strive for miracles is our desire, purpose as a church congregation and individual.
To expel the power God gave us is no different than the right of ‘freedom’, and to ‘bear’ arms.
We become slaves to this worlds tyrants. As a matter of fact, worse. The rights of freedom are derived from God and his power, he gave us, to do battle against these principalities, and powers.
Through heresy, we disarmed ourselves spiritually.
To understand how far the ‘church’ has fallen…we ask ourselves…why no ‘early church’ miracles in our churches today? No raising the dead, helping the blind to see, feeding the 5 thousand with a basket of food? God has withheld his benefits!
The first line of defense is the intercessor…

I have had this thought occur to me in the last several days:
I was thinking about what if We The People could organize a NATIONAL “TRASH-THE-MASK” Day???
To me, it would be majorly CATHARTIC if we could agree on a pre-arranged date and time, where EVERYONE, no matter where they are just took their masks off all at once and toss them in the air, never to be donned again. (Kind of like how everyone tosses their graduation hats off and tosses them in the air.)
Of course, there would be plenty of “Karens” and “Kens” out there to stomp their feet and scream, BUT, if 95% of us did it–especially if we arranged to be in the public square somewhere, (grocery shopping, eating out, at church, walking down the street, etc., etc., I think the entire exercise would be very demonstrative to “the prison guards” that their SCAM is over, and We The People are DONE!
The event could be spread all over social media (hopefully before the prison guards can shut it down) and on other platforms too, to get the word out. It could be like a Trump Rally!…insofar as it could be announced and people would all participate! Logistics would need to be worked out, and there could be more than one “Trash-The-Mask Event”.
Thoughts, anyone???
