Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

    He Shall Pray For Thee

    By Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

Abimelech, king of Gerar, had taken Abraham’s wife as his own, but had done so innocently.

Sarah was a beautiful woman and Abraham, fearful for his life, had said to Abimelech: “She is my sister”. Indeed, Sarah, also fearful, had vouched for Abraham’s lie, telling the king: “He is my brother”.

But to save the failing couple from the consequences of their own cowardice and sin, God had appeared to Abimelech, warning him that if he valued his life he would immediately return Sarah to her husband — “and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live”(Gen. 20:7).

Can this be a correct account of what actually took place? Will God hear the prayers of guilty Abraham for innocent Abimelech? Yes, for Abimelech was a pagan who served other gods, while Abraham, with all his failure and sin, was God’s child.

Abraham’s prayer would, of course, be a confession of his sin and a plea that it might not be laid to the charge of innocent Abimelech, but nevertheless it was Abraham, not Abimelech, who had access to God.

This is an important lesson to learn, for many unsaved people point to the failures of believers and say: “I wouldn’t be guilty of that. If he goes to heaven, I certainly will get there”. Nevertheless, such “good” people are lost, while poor sinners who have trusted Christ for salvation are saved and “made accepted in the Beloved One”(Eph.1:6).

There is only one way to find acceptance with God; this is by faith in His Son. Our Lord said: “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by Me” (John 14:6), and in John 3:35,36 we read:

“The Father loveth the Son and hath given all things into His hands. He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: He that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31).

Genesis 20:6 And God said unto him in a dream, Yea, I know that thou didst this in the integrity of thy heart; for I also withheld thee from sinning against me: therefore suffered I thee not to touch her.
7 Now therefore restore the man his wife; for he is a prophet, and he shall pray for thee, and thou shalt live: and if thou restore her not, know thou that thou shalt surely die, thou, and all that are thine.

Ephesians 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 3:35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Spoiler alert: We do not know the answer to this question. Where did all the red auroras come from? For much of mid-October, Earth’s magnetic field has been very quiet. Extremely quiet. There should have been almost no auroras at all, yet around the Arctic Circle, photographers recorded scenes like this:

Rayann Elzein of Utsjoki, Finland, took the picture on Oct. 17th. “I saw red almost every night for a whole week with similar displays on Oct. 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th,” says Elzein. “On each occasion, geomagnetic activity was very low (with K-indices no greater than 0 or 1).”

Red auroras are rare. They form near the top of Earth’s atmosphere when particles from space strike oxygen atoms 150 km to 500 km high–much higher than normal green auroras. As Les Cowley explains, at that high altitude, very slow atomic transitions which produce red photons are easily interrupted. Even experienced observers rarely see them.

Elzein has been chasing auroras in Finland for 10 years. He prides himself on going out in all conditions–even when geomagnetic activity is low. “I can’t recall ever seeing so much red on top of the green layer before,” he says.

In Tromsø, Norway, aurora tour guide Markus Varik had a similar experience. “Activity was extremely low on Oct. 17th when these pink and red colors appeared. After years of guiding, I have never seen anything like it.”

“The auroras appeared milky-white to the naked eye, but on the camera they were vivid pink,” says Varik.

The common denominator seems to be … quiet. “The red was most apparent during the lowest geomagnetic activity–that is, when Bz was positive and the solar wind speed was slow (at or below 300 km/s),” notes Elzein. “The solar wind was also dense, with proton densities above 15 p/cm3.”

It’s a mystery. Aurora experts with bright (red) ideas may submit their explanations here.

    Trucker report:

Late Sunday night woke up sweaty and dizzy and stumbled to the bathroom and dry heaved a bit. Back to bed then up again at 4:30 to go to the bathroom and let the dog do her thing the back to bed,.

At 06:20 Monday morning the phone rang. Driver called off a load bound for Roanoke, VA, Load was supposed to leave at 07:00. I left the terminal at 08:05 with it. Made it to the place in Virginia right on time and took my break right there at the place I delivered and picked up. Felt punky all day but after a night in the sleeper felt much better.

Route: I-70 east to I-75 south into Dayton, OH where I got on US 35 which takes you down through SE Ohio into West Virginia to I-64 east. Through Wheeling, WV where I noticed the beautiful capital dome is now covered with white sheeting of some type and has scaffolding up around it so they are apparently working on it. Junction with I-77 south. Take a short cut using US 460 through the Blue Ridge to get to I-81 north.

Leaf looking was great in the Blue Ridge. Just beautiful. Would have been better if I had felt better.

Arrived at the facility right on time despite the load leaving late and they promptly put me in a door and unloaded the dunnage I had brought and loaded the trailer with 27 Ropaks (plastic gaylords) full of parts. Load of parts they put on me delivered to the Ryder/Allison cross dock on the NW side of Indy. Ryder handles the logistics for much of GM, including the several Allison facilities in Indianapolis and Penske handles most of the rest.

For some reason the UAW workers at the Allison plants are easier to work with and more motivated than they are at the majority auto plants I have been to, no matter which auto manufacturer it is.

Arrived at the Ryder cross dock in Indy 2 1/2 hours early. No problem, they took care of me as soon as there was a door open for me to back into. They took off the parts and loaded the trailer with dunnage that will go back to the facility in Roanoke, VA. Got back in at the yard in Anderson, dropped the trailer on the yard, and fueled and got the truck ready to go and got home at 17:45 on Tuesday.

Starting with fall weather I purge the water out of the air tanks on the tractor every time I come back to the yard and fuel. During the summer months I only do it once every couple weeks. But when freezing weather comes a driver can save themselves some serious headaches if they do their best to keep the water out of the air system. It also helps to fill the fuel tanks up and top them off so as to eliminate as much as possible condensation with the wetter weather and the temperatures fluctuating as much as they do during the fall, winter, and spring.

So I got home Tuesday in the late afternoon and Wednesday morning at 04:30 the phone rings. Dispatch unable to find a driver to cover a solo load to TENNECO in Seward, Nebraska. Yep! That would be the same place I was teaming too for two weeks with Randy.

Load was supposed to depart the yard at Anderson at 22:00 on Tuesday but I was the first salary driver to come available to take it for them and they called me as soon as I had my 10 hour break in.

Departed the yard at 06:20 with a trailer full floor to roof, nose to tail. Now back when my truck was governed at 72 mph and I was running paper logs I never failed to make this run in one driving shift even if there was a blizzard. But with E-logs and a truck governed at 67.9 mph, I was going to come up about 20 minutes short. So after 7 hours and 44 minutes I stopped at a truck stop and took my 10 hour break while still 240 miles from Seward. By dong that I saved taking the mandatory 30 minute break before I had 8 hours of driving time thus cutting 30 minutes off my arrival time.

I had kept dispatch informed and told them to tell customer service that I would arrive between 03:00 and 04:00 on Thursday (The load was supposed to be there by 22:00 Wednesday night} so that they could inform the customer. Since it was a drop and hook where I dropped the loaded trailer I had brought and hooked to a preloaded trailer bound for Anderson I didn’t need to be unloaded or loaded.

It worked perfectly. The guard met me at the gate when I arrived at 03:35 and opened it up and though Shipping and Receiving was closed they had an overnight clerk that took care of the paperwork so I dropped the trailer along the fence, hooked to the preloaded trailer that was in a door and after doing my pre-trip inspection, secured the load with two load straps, entered the six BOL (Bills of Lading), and changed the trailer number in the log, I was on my way back to Anderson.

Of course I had to take another 10 break and I stopped at a Loves Truck stop on I-72 east of Springfield, IL to take it. Got some darn good burritos from the Taco Johns there. Much better than anything I ever had from Taco Bell.

About 5 hours after I laid down the phone rang. Now it’s a big no no for an employer to interrupt a drivers 10 hour break. Technically according to DOT regulations a driver can restart their break if their employer interrupts it because even talking on the phone for business is duty time.

It was a call from some idiot working at the Laredo terminal. Apparently they were confused because one of their drivers said they were moving into a truck with the same truck number I have, and have had since I got the truck when it was new in 2015. The system wouldn’t let the confused driver enter that truck number because it already existed in the system. I told them that it was mine and that their confusion was their problem and not mine, and that they had woken me from the sound sleep during my 10 hour break, and that I was turning off my phone and hung up on them. This is just one example of about million ways an inadequately trained or incompetent dispatcher can make a drivers life miserable.

I generally try to help and inform the kids when I can but when they don’t show a lack of consideration or respect to me then the old sergeants voice comes out and I’ll lower the boom on them. I really don’t intend on buffaloing the kids but I guess I can be pretty intimidating even when I don’t mean to be. Or so I’ve been told.

Out of 50 or so people that work in the dispatch office, customer service, and trip planning at the Anderson terminal there are 5 people, all supervisors or driver managers, that have been with the company longer than I have. Most of the rest have been there less than five years and I’ve forgotten more about this business than they have learned. And believe me, there is one heck of a lot more to it than the layman can probably conceive. I still learn new stuff about trucking and logistics on a regular basis. The bright spot in all of this is that it’s a heck of a lot better and much more professionally run than it once was.

Arrived back the Anderson terminal at 04:00 this morning (Friday), took care of the paperwork and dropped the trailer in the designated door. I had debated on fueling while at the Loves where I took my last break but decided to push on. When I fueled at the terminal I put 189.4 gallons in. The tanks hold 220 gallons and there is about 8 gallons in each of the two tanks that is unusable. So cut it close.

My time should be my own from now until 06:00 on Sunday but the way things have been going I wouldn’t be surprised of I get a call before then.

    • Thanks for the report and the tip on keeping fuel tanks topped to minimize moisture from condensation. I’m driving a diesel engine SUV for the first time ever and have been using additives at fill ups as a preventative.

      • rah says:

At our home terminal fuel islands they have additive in the fuel but on the road one has to add their own. I keep a few bottles in the tool box. But when the hawk really comes out like up on I-80 in Wyoming and points north where one can have wind chills more than -100 F on the road, additive may well not be enough. If one doesn’t have a winter truck that circulates heated water from the engine cooling system into the tanks your likely to get gelling especially if the tanks are exposed.

The only time I have had a problem with fuel gelling was 3 to 4 years ago. I got called in early in the morning and the temp on the truck thermometer was -15 F. The fuel in the tanks didn’t gel but it did in the fuel line running from the DAVOCO fuel filter. The truck would start and idle for a short time then die due to fuel starvation. The mechanics came out and put a salamander heater on it and in a few minutes I was ready to go.

The other problem we have most often occurs when the trailer brakes are set after running through wet conditions and then it gets colder and the shoes get frozen to the brake drums. I don’t ever set my trailer brakes in those conditions. The tractor brakes are enough to hold the rig.

If this happens on either tractor or trailer banging on the brake drums with a 3 lb hammer has never failed to get them to break free but it can take a lot of beating sometimes. Not a happy time laying in the snow under a trailer beating on the brake drums. But three winters ago that is exactly what I did because some rookie parked at a rest area and set his brakes when it went from slushy to hard freezing conditions and they sent me down to deal with it. Kid didn’t offer to help and wasn’t even curious about what I was doing and why. I told him he needed to find another job.

And a wonderful shout out to you, a big huge “Thank You”, for keeping our Great America on the move and well stocked.

I will give a shout out to the wonderful people at the Macon, GA, Love’s Truck stop. It is the facility on the southbound side of I-75. On a straight thru drive to FL, my care started yelling at me to get oil change and that the oil was low. It was midnight and and fatigue was kicking in. Big time and compounded with fear. I had just navigated the portion of I-75, known as Atlanta. I was a wreck, two barking show dogs crated in rear.

Two wonderful employees got me hooked up with the correct oil and a disposable funnel, (my Ford uses weird oil). They assured me everything would be okay. They also said I could park there and nap, and that I would be safe. Which I did.

I see the big guys, as I live near I-80, and know the job has got to be stressful, so Rah, thank you! And be safe!

“If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away.” 2 Cor. v. 17

Our Lord never nurses our prejudices, He mortifies them, runs clean athwart them. We imagine that God has a special interest in our particular prejudices; we are quite sure that God will never deal with us as He has to deal with other people. “God must deal with other people in a very stern way, but of course He knows that my prejudices are all right.” We have to learn – “Not a bit of it!” Instead of God being on the side of our prejudices, He is deliberately wiping them out. It is part of our moral education to have our prejudices run straight across by His providence, and to watch how He does it. God pays no respect to anything we bring to Him. There is only one thing God wants of us, and that is our unconditional surrender.

When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begins to work His new creation in us, and there will come a time when there is not a bit of the old order left, the old solemnity goes, the old attitude to things goes, and “all things are of God.” How are we going to get the life that has no lust, no self-interest, no sensitiveness to pokes, the love that is not provoked, that thinketh no evil, that is always kind? The only way is by allowing not a bit of the old life to be left; but only simple perfect trust in God, such trust that we no longer want God’s blessings, but only want Himself. Have we come to the place where God can withdraw His blessings and it does not affect our trust in Him? When once we see God at work, we will never bother our heads about things that happen, because we are actually trusting in our Father in Heaven Whom the world cannot see.

Today LaToya Cantrell, Rat mayor of New Orleans, announced that after having the power, since April, to fine those in the city out in public not wearing a mask…she’s gonna start doing it.

This is after months of non-compliance, the NOPD receiving some 200 calls a week of illegal crowd gatherings (media no longer reports the figures) and videos of illegal gatherings (media no longer shows those), mostly involving tourists and people for whom large gatherings are a cultural thang not to be questioned.

NOLA’s service-based minimum wage economy has been hit hard, the hotels received somewhat of a reprieve when we received thousands of hurricane refugees brought here on the tax payers’ dimes, a backdoor stimulus program, but much else is reeling. The mayor even refused to allow fans at the Saints home games until the team said it would go and play its games in Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge (one of THE most COVID infected cities in the US) which would allow 25,000 fans to fill the stands. Just days ago the mayor partially relented and allowed 6000 fans to come to the next home game and the Saints folded and agreed to stay here. We’re still not sure if, under current city rules about singing or strong vocalizations, the fans will be allowed to cheer.

We have a red state with a blue governor and the major cities run by blue mayors and city councils and it’s regularly been in the top 3 of most infected places, the state and Baton Rouge and New Orleans not only being the most infected but being major vectors of the disease. Only now, days before the election, is she taking stronger measures to reel in the infection in a city where her supporters are the majority…go figure. They’ve been largely allowed to continue behaviors that have spread the infection while the city watched the sea of minimum wage service workers drown under the city’s usual poorly though out planning. And she and her Rat pack will get reelected by the same people.

    Exception President Donald J. Trump.
He is aware of all of this. He has told us many times. He has told us America will never be a socialist country. He has told us he has caught them all. He has told us there must be equal justice and people must be held accountable. He has told a lot of things like the wall. Like a lot of things he said, they took time, but got done. President Trump had to show he was clean as a whistle so when he drops the hammer no one can say he went after people to cover his own tracks(long time deep state tactic, also hollywood tried to portray this in their show Homeland in the final season)

I am still confident justice is coming. When the remaining swamp creatures are removed after reelection it will no longer be insane to expect the DOJ and FBI to do their job.

I noticed that the local CVS has been filling its parking lot with giant shipping containers. Drove by today and saw another one being unloaded from a semi. WTF? Well, it is as I suspected. CVS appears to be getting ready to store massive amounts of vaccine in dry ice in shipping containers in their parking lots, and are already putting containers in place.

Wanted to wish everyone a wonderful fall weekend!

Looks to be an interesting couple of days news wise. Too bad I am going to be out driving around and viewing the awesome colors we have this year!!

Trapper, years ago I noticed how many “China Shipping” Containers were on American Rails and Roads. It always struck me that, for anybody could SEE, there could be a Platoon of the PLA inside with their heavy weapons.
All it would take is to have the right palms crossed by wads of CCP cash.
You were sharp enough, and the change obvious enough for containers in the CVS lot to be noted.
Would anybody notice if China Shipping Containers started to congregate at rest stops near the Beltway?
