U.S. Sanctions Hong Kong’s Carrie Lam Over China Crackdown

“ The U.S. is placing sanctions on 11 Chinese officials and their allies in Hong Kong, including Chief Executive Carrie Lam, over their role in curtailing political freedoms in the former U.K. colony, the Treasury Department said Friday.

“The United States stands with the people of Hong Kong and we will use our tools and authorities to target those undermining their autonomy,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.

Lam was sanctioned because she is “directly responsible for implementing Beijing’s policies of suppression of freedom and democratic processes,” the agency said.

The sanctioned individuals include Xia Baolong, director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of China’s State Council, and Chris Tang, commissioner of the Hong Kong Police Force.

The 11 people will have any property and assets in the U.S. frozen. But it’s not clear whether any of the sanctioned officials will be affected financially.”

Would be nice if we got a total death count in the US for say the last 5 years, to compare what a difference there is. Every death is being counted as a virus victim, no matter the cause. People get sick all the time and that will not change anytime soon. We are all being held hostage to this virus, yes there is a virus but it just isn’t as big as it has been made to look.

The CDC Provisional Data has about what you’re describing. Based on data of total deaths 2017-2019 they projected total deaths for this year. From February – July, total deaths from all causes are 110% of expected.

      • allin4freedom says:

This begs a question: does that extra 10% figure match the reported COVID-19 death statistic being reported? My guess would be NO, the COVID-19 figure is inflated.

I listen to Rush on Fox News Radio and I have to say that Fox is almost as anti-Trump as CNN. Today they said that “COVID-19 deaths are on the rise dramatically”, yesterday it was “Trump’s false statement on children and COVID-19” and every day it is “please stay home!!!” and “wear a mask!!!” If you wonder how the Uniparty is holding people hostage to China Flu, look no further than Fox.

Never a good word about PDJT or his policies or criticism of Biden and Democrats. Given the fact that this crap is aimed at the Republican listeners, I can’t help but become convinced that Fox wants Trump defeated by spreading the Democrat Party’s propaganda and assisting the DNC by keeping the people home in fear of the virus.

In case you don’t already know, Soros funded the Steele Dossier, Soros funded the creation of COVID19, Soros funded Hillary Clinton and the current censorship on Facebook, against conservatives. And, that’s only the short list.

So, why has Soros and those he has paid for not been prosecuted? Two standards of justice!

Sharyl Attkisson: Facebook’s Fact-Check Board Gets a Lot of ‘Likes’ From Soros
    By Joe Hoft
    Published August 7, 2020

Post by Sharyl Attkisson, Republished with permission from RealClearInvestigations

In announcing the formation of an independent oversight board with authority to allow or remove content from Facebook and Instagram, the board’s four co-chairs stressed the body’s diversity.

“The board members come from different professional, cultural and religious backgrounds and have various political viewpoints,” they wrote in a New York Times op-ed on May 6.

“Some of us have been publicly critical of Facebook; some of us haven’t.”

A closer look, however, reveals that 18 of its 20 members collaborated with or are tied to groups that have received funding from George Soros’ Open Society Foundations – which is one of the most well-funded and influential progressive organizations in the country.

Open Society’s reach is so vast that simply receiving support from the institution is not a proxy for political leanings – one member has received support from Soros and the Charles Koch Foundation.

But the fact that 90% of the board’s members have ties to that progressive group raises questions in an environment where conservatives complain about big-tech bias and internet censorship.

You have to read this with the US sanctions on Carrie Lam 👏I posted, not yet appeared.

A signed article by Yang Jiechi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee was published Friday.

Secretary Pompeo seems to be singled out for his statements saying that the US supports the people of China, not the CCP. Seems to have rattled the Party. Also, Tibet, Xinjiang and HK were mentioned as core interests brooking no interference, but not the SCS. Very interesting.

Of course today was the commencement of the “summer summit “ at Beidaihe. All of this is not coincidental.

Cincinelli had investigatory roles in the Clinton Foundation financial issues and worked in SDNY before being promoted to DC (how convenient). His sister was a cop who hired someone to kill an ex. All kinds of shadiness here.

My wife had the local news on. The weather is cloudy with 100% chance of covid. There was a head on collision and all the people in both cars died of covid. A shooting left a local man dead of covid but it showed the police standing around investigating. None of them had masks on no matter how close to other people they were. Orange man bad. Local food bank swamped. A long line of cars, none of which were more than 2 years old. Then a closeup of them loading food into a Yukon Denali. Early voting has started on a local school bond issue while the schools are closed for the foreseeable future because of covid.

    I sure learned a lot.

I emailed Jim Justice our fine governor yesterday and asked him since all the masks I can buy are made in China if he was getting a kickback on the business since he is the one requiring them or was he just an idiot?
Fine masks that stop 95% of bacteria and bodily fluids. They do nothing for viruses.
If you but 3 cases of masks you get free shipping from China.

But what I actually see happening is “doublethink”.

Coined by George Orwell in “1984”. The concept of doublethink is the ability to hold two completely contradictory thoughts simultaneously while believing both of them to be true.

I’m seeing more and more examples of this lately, here’s one…

My own uncle (hard to peg on the left-right spectrum, but hates Trump) who has bought into the COVID hysteria was going on and on telling my mom about his granddaughters gymnastics school and how great it was that they were forcing 5 year olds to wear masks during gymnastics lessons and all this social distancing and washing their hands all the time, etc, etc, etc….

My mom brought up how kids arent even affected by the virus. That they dont get sick, arent contagious, etc, etc… My uncle then replied in the affirmative, as if he knew that and understood that, but then proceeded to applaud the gymnastics schools efforts to protect kids.

      Its bizarre.

My aunt (not that ^^^ uncle’s wife, but another one) has shown a tendency to do the same thing. She is a conservative, well maybe better to call her a Republican, but does not like Trump. She agrees that the virus has been weaponized for political purposes and can sometimes recognize the contradictions, hypocrisies, etc… But then she will say something that suggests she has forgotten everything we’ve just talked about. Like it just didnt compute. She also thinks everyone should be wearing a mask all day, everyday, everywhere.

      Its really, really bizarre.

People are just shutting down parts of their brain or something. The only thing that I can attribute the cause to is fear. Fear is preventing logic and reason from computing some very basic truths.

Its like if you realize you are thirsty, and you have a glass of water, and you know that it will quench your thirst, but instead of drinking the water, you eat a burrito. Or something, IDK.

Just my conjecture, but I suspect the threat level to our president is very elevated now. Why?

First, figure that the Obamagate / Spygate targets’ attorneys are comparing notes every day. They have a good idea what crimes are being investigated based on the nature of the questions asked to their clients. They’ve probably concluded that Durham has flipped more than one person. They also know with some certainty where Bash is heading with his investigation as well.

Second, the economy is recovering despite the covid scam. The economy is Trump’s biggest asset, and the left’s biggest target. Anything they can do to crater the economy again, they will do. And BTW, the economy is doing very well despite the hit Big Pharma will take, as well as the thousand cuts put on the Chinese economy.

Third, one has to wonder what the rest of the US Attorney’s offices are doing behind the scenes. Might there be some Epsteinesque charges in the works? Even worse? While we’re all focused on Durham and Bash, I sense a flanking movement is being made without notice.

All of these reasons and more may have contributed to an imminent threat assessment requiring extraordinary security measures for the short term.

In addition, the signed article on China-US relations (I posted, not yet appeared) by Yang Jiechi besides being a self-serving ahistorical polemic, attacks the US administration (seems likely they will back channel the Biden campaign) says this👇

“ Nonetheless, for some time, some politicians in the US have kept making false statements and groundless remarks against China. They have viciously attacked the Communist Party of China (CPC) and China’s political system. They have deliberately distorted and even attempted to write off the history of China-US relations for the past nearly 50 years. What they are up to is to stitch up lies to blind the American people and fool international public opinion. For the international community, it is clear that the US Administration has chosen unilaterally to be provocative. The erroneous words and moves by the US Administration constituted interference in China’s internal affairs. They undermined China’s interests and seriously disrupted China-US relations, putting the relationship in a most complex and grave situation since the establishment of diplomatic ties.”

The United States Designates Individuals in Hong Kong for Curtailing Promised Freedoms

“ The Chinese Communist Party has made clear that Hong Kong will never again enjoy the high degree of autonomy that Beijing itself promised to the Hong Kong people and the United Kingdom for 50 years. President Trump has made clear that the United States will therefore treat Hong Kong as “one country, one system,” and take action against individuals who have crushed the Hong Kong people’s freedoms.

Today, the United States designates 11 individuals pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13936. These individuals include Carrie Lam, Teresa Cheng, Erick Tsang, Zheng Yanxiong, Eric Chan, John Lee Ka-chiu, and Chris Tang, for their roles in coercing, arresting, detaining, or imprisoning individuals under the authority of, or having been responsible for or involved in developing, adopting, or implementing, the Law of the People’s Republic of China on Safeguarding National Security in Hong Kong. This law, purportedly enacted to “safeguard” the security of Hong Kong, is in fact a tool of CCP repression.

This action includes designations of Xia Baolong, Zhang Xiaoming, and Luo Huining for being leaders or officials of an entity engaged in actions or policies that threaten the peace, security, stability, or autonomy of Hong Kong. Stephen Lo was also designated for being a foreign person who is or has been a leader or official of an entity, including any government entity, that has engaged in, or whose members have engaged in censorship or other activities with respect to Hong Kong that prohibit, limit, or penalize the exercise of freedom of expression or assembly by citizens of Hong Kong, or that limit access to free and independent print, online or broadcast media.

Today’s actions send a clear message that the Hong Kong authorities’ actions are unacceptable and in contravention of the PRC’s commitments under “one country, two systems” and the Sino-British Joint Declaration, a UN-registered treaty.

The United States stands with the Hong Kong people. For more information, please see the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s press release

Treasury Sanctions Individuals for Undermining Hong Kong’s Autonomy

    “ Sanctions Implications

As a result of today’s action, all property and interests in property of the individuals named above, and of any entities that are owned, directly or indirectly, 50 percent or more by them, individually, or with other blocked persons, that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons, are blocked and must be reported to OFAC. Unless authorized by a general or specific license issued by OFAC or otherwise exempt, OFAC’s regulations generally prohibit all transactions by U.S. persons or within (or transiting) the United States that involve any property or interests in property of designated or otherwise blocked persons. The prohibitions include the making of any contribution or provision of funds, goods, or services by, to, or for the benefit of any blocked person or the receipt of any contribution or provision of funds, goods or services from any such person. More information on the entities designated today.”

FTA: If Durham announces criminal indictments or plea agreements involving former officials operating under the Obama-Biden administration, or releases a report documenting widespread corruption, independent voters could sour on Biden and sympathize with Trump. On the other hand, kicking the ball past the election could dispirit Trump’s base.

“I would find it hard to believe that he punts under any circumstances,” said former assistant FBI director Chris Swecker, who knows Durham personally and has worked with the hard-nosed prosecutor on prior investigations.

He pointed out that Durham would risk throwing away 16 months of investigative work if he delayed action beyond the election.

“There’s no question that if Biden is elected, everything Durham has done at that point will be canceled out,” Swecker explained, adding that Biden would replace Barr and possibly even Durham.

The more I think about your post the more I remember about December. Pelosi had the vote to impeach POTUS – and let the House go home for Christmas. In early January she made a parade to the Senate to deliver the articles and the show began.
So, as you say, What did she (they) know and when did they know (plan) it?
Almost as soon as the ‘trial’ ended, in early February as I recall, our VSG P DJT shut down incoming traffic from China. And not too long after he shut down most incoming from everywhere.
So, yeah, your question has a plausible answer

That would be starters. Would love to see persons,
say in areas like the suburbs charge them with civil
charges. Important to know that you have decent
judicial with a track record of just rulings.

Looked into filing “public nuisance” charges against
some crack riddled rentals in my old area. If we had
10 person file against each landlord, they’d have
been facing fines of 60,000 if they hadn’t corrected
      the situation.

“Public nuisance” is, basically defined as anything
that denies you the full enjoyment of your dwelling or
business. Persons showing up and disturbing the
peace at midnight in the burbs full qualifies for that.
Get some license numbers for starters.

Can do it without attorneys ( at least in Georgia).

I find the parallels between Jeffrey Epstein’s apparent blackmail operation spying upon visitors to his island and the Democrat Party spying interesting. The Obama Democrat database was referenced by Maxine Waters. Many journalists were spied on, not just Sharyl Attkisson. IRS attempted illegal harvesting of donor lists from conservative groups. It seems pretty clear that the “about” query was used to gather information on Republicans, likely not only Trump, but Carson, Bush, Cruz, Paul, etc. If used to search them then why not McConnell, Burr, Shelby, Sessions, McCain, Ryan, Romney, Palin, and others?
So far no evidence has come out that Democrat leverage was used apart from Flynn and the Trump campaign, but then so far no evidence has come out how Epstein used his leverage.

I don’t know where to post this question, so I will put it here. I was reading the Andy McCarthy article yesterday about the lie that the Trump campaign was given a defensive briefing by the FBI and officials of the ODNI in Aug of ’16. He explains it was not a briefing, it was an investigation instead.

    My questions are:
Did the FBI know on August 17, 2016 (the day of the “briefing”) who hacked the DNC? Do you think they know yet?

Do we have a record of the briefing given to the Clinton campaign? was it the same?

Who were they (the FBI, CIA, or WH) really worried about.. Trump? or Flynn? At that time? Do you think they were really concerned in August that Trump was going to win and hence they had to set him up as being a Russian operative? Or was it they wanted to see what Flynn was telling him about Obama?

I have others, but while Sundance is mostly working on after the election right now, I thought maybe someone had insight I might have missed.

      1. The FBI absolutely knew it was not a hack of the DNC servers. Their experts understand data rates just as well as anyone. The transfer of data was far faster than possible via an internet connection. Had to be a direct device like a thumb drive.

      2. The DNC knew in late 2015 that the Hag might very well lose. John Solomon reported last week that in late 20158 they did secret polling that showed 52% would NOT vote for the Hag because of her selling our uranium to Russia. They had to create a backup plan … insurance policy.

This is what happened when we started off years ago letting the Left create hysteria by mislabeling its opponents. First they started by targeting people who were making effective arguments against them as ‘racist’ and ‘white supremacist’. Many of these people’s lives were ruined by groups like the SPLC and ADL.

Anyone who supported enforcement of immigration laws or who opposed affirmative action quotas was a ‘Nazi who literally wants to kill everyone who isn’t white’. It was allowed to go on because, quite frankly, ‘mainstream’ conservatives wanted to virtue signal by pretending they weren’t a part of ‘that crowd’.

Now, not only is any conservative, but any non-white person who questions the Far Left’s narrative is a ‘Nazi’. These crazed people literally believe that it’s okay to pour paint on or physically assault elderly women because everyone who isn’t on their team is a ‘Nazi’.

Coddling them and making them feel like they have legit reasons for their terrible behavior instead of punishing them to make them open their damn eyes and see that they better straighten up and fly right.

Even in children’s sports. Not allowing score keeping. Giving participation trophies for every damn thing. Not allowing them to experience loss and defeat.

He had on dark clothes and huge letters.. IIRC.. SPLC .. and underneath.. constitutional rights observer…. who is paying them..

The implication was clear.. there are lawyers make sure they obstruct lawfull pushback and intimidate law enforcement.. use of force etc.

For those of you here that have not witnessed people getting arrested.. the first thing other demonstrators yell to them…. ‘what’s your name’… that’s so BLM/AntiFa know who to bail out.

There are also food vehicles.. distributing free food.. medical vehicles..distributing solutions to lessen the impact of pepper spray or tear gas.

At the Portland federal court house they brought gas powered blowers….

So The mayor of Portland has called for the riots to stop.. he says that continued riots will only re elect President Trump..

I look back at Spain 1934.. the civil war.. Nazi pilots were there learning and honing their skills.. like wise the Portland and Seattle protest IMHO was a learning experience for BLM/AntiFa. Be prepared for the worst.. Hope for the best..

THOUSANDS of Covid deaths are set to be wiped off official records following an urgent review into counting “flaws”.

This came up mid July, independent analysis of the England.NHS.UK/Statistics Covid 19 daily data figures found that the number of people with no underlying health conditions who have died with Coronavirus in the UK was 1366. Included in that figure was 302 persons under 60 years of age, 33 persons under 40 years of age and for those under 20 years of age, it was found only 3 people died with Coronavirus. Our peak weeks were the last two weeks of April and this report referred to the stopping of the mortuary test around 26/7th of April. What the mortuary test did was this, if a patient suffered a fatal heart attack up in the ward, the Dr would fill in the prelim cause of death as Cardiac Arrest, then in the mortuary, the deceased would then be tested for Covid – and a positive result would mean ” Voila – you died of Covid, lets pop you in those daily death figures ! ” So the 46,000 deaths here in the UK are not necessarily ” Covid deaths ” and if a true audit was done, the result would be a lot less but now we are 70 billion in debt, a tidal wave of job losses and bankruptcies awaits us, the Government are in dire credibility straits so l don’t expect the truth to come out any time soon !

As far as I know everyone gets the PCR test. It is the swab test and just test for a bit of an RNA virus, any RNA bit will do. That the U.S. may finally respond in kind is a reflection of reality, not the creation of a new one.

I also have to think, if this is the same appeals court Flynn is dealing with, they will burn him like they just burned Trump.

Dems are desperate Pelosi says she needs two trillion dollars for the children.

I wonder what the number of times Pelosi said “children” in that speech. In the beginning, she used it every third or fourth word. Must have used it 50-60 times in 5 minutes.
She was definitely trying to build up the emotion caused by that word and make it look as if the Trump Administration hates children.

Some Black Lives Matter activists in Salt Lake City face charges with potential life sentences over damage
Black Lives Matter protesters could face hefty sentence if convicted of vandalism, destruction at protest

“This is so far beyond just the enforcement of the law, it feels retaliatory,” said Madalena McNeil, who is facing a potential life sentence over felony criminal mischief and riot charges. Charging documents say she bought red paint at a Home Depot before the July 9 demonstration sparked by a fatal police shooting ruling. She later yelled at and shifted her weight as if to slam into police during the demonstration, charges state. “It’s really frustrating and scary … I just feel so much concern for what this means for the right to protest in general.”

Since for the last month 95% of the kids at BLM riots are white, is that cultural appropriation?

    • cheering4america says:

The DA has participated in BLM demonstrations HIMSELF!

“The Utah demonstrators are unlikely to serve prison time, said Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill. Though they’d get at least five years if convicted as charged, criminal cases often end with a plea to lesser counts.

“I don’t think anyone is going to be going to prison on this,” he said. Gill is a generally reform-minded Democrat who said he has participated in Black Lives Matter protests himself and declined to charge dozens of protesters accused of curfew violations.”

Without prison time they won’t amend their behavior, and more of the Soros’ related organizations will pay any fines which might be assessed. Mr. Gill should recuse himself as a potential co-defendant.

For something to be retaliatory, there has to be something in the first place to retaliate against

Trump’s new “Drain the Swamp@ ad is great. The inclusion of Andrea Mitchell in the video is an epic troll.
