Thursday July 2nd – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

That’s not the Charleston I don’t think, but what dance is it? I looked but couldn’t interpret.

Mom taught me parts of the Charleston when I was a kid. We used to dance in the kitchen all the time.

This lady is good and very energetic. Definitely having a blast!

Both of my long-passed grandmothers, who were in their twenties in the ’20s, must be smiling from heaven knowing that young women today are still dancing the Charleston and similar swing dances that were popular ‘way back then.’

I have a photo of one of my grandmothers wearing a bob hairdo, a headband with a feather in it, and a one piece dress that was not too modest. She’s sitting up the back of a open top car with another similarly dressed young woman, both grinning like they hadn’t a care in the world. They were, in the parlance of their day, the berries.

What a shame that so many young people of today have had their young minds infested with false outrage and pessimism and their futures made to appear so dismal and hopeless by the soul-sucking Left.

A Holding Pattern That Casts the Lord in a Good Light

    By Pastor Ricky Kurth

Nearly 2,000 years ago, the Apostle Paul gave some advice to a young man named Titus that all Christians would do well to take to heart:

“In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works…” (Titus 2:7).

If you’re not sure what a “pattern” is, do you remember reading about the “seven lamps” that made up “the candlestick” in the tabernacle (Num. 8:1-4)? If so, you may remember that this candlestick was carefully made “according to the pattern which the Lord had showed Moses” (Num. 8:1-4). It was a pattern that typified the Lord Jesus Christ, who later declared,

“I am the light of the world: he that followeth Me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).

When the Lord walked among men, He was the light of the world because—like the candlestick that typified Him—He was “made under the law” (Gal. 4:5), and He walked “according to the pattern which the Lord had showed Moses” in the Law, as He offered the light of eternal life to men. But later He added,

“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5).

Now that the Lord is gone, the world has a different source of spiritual light, one that Paul described in Philippians 2:15,16. Speaking to members of the Body of Christ, he wrote,

“…YE shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life.”

Now that the Lord is no longer here on earth, it’s our turn to be the light of the world, as we offer the light of eternal life to the lost!

But we don’t shine as lights in the world as our Lord did, by walking according to the pattern of the law. “We are not under the law, but under grace” (Rom. 6:15), so we shine the light of grace by walking according to the pattern of good works we find in the epistles of Paul, the apostle of grace. If you are still observing Israel’s sabbath, or adhering to the restricted diet of Leviticus 11, etc., you are telling people we’re under the Law! And that’s not shining the right light of life to lost sinners. It’s hard to get saved by grace if you think we’re under the Law!

We know that walking in good works is an important part of shining as lights in the world, for in telling the Philippians they were the light of the world, Paul prefaced his words by saying,

“Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:14,15).

That’s Paul’s way of saying that you shouldn’t be trying to shine the light of life to men if you yourself are walking in darkness!

But as you shine the light of grace, adorned by the testimony of your pattern of good works, it is important to let people know that you’re not walking in good works because you’re a good person. You need to let them know that you’re doing it because you’re a child of God! That’s what the Lord had in mind when He said,

“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Now, you know why He had to say that. When men see you do good works, they tend to glorify you instead of God, saying things like, “Isn’t he a good man for doing something like that!” The Lord said not to let them think that way, to let your light shine in such a way that they will glorify God instead. How do we do that? There’s only one way to do it, and that’s to let people know that you belong to the Lord! That way God gets the glory when men see your good works, and not you. It’s the only way to cast the Lord in a good light, so tell someone today!

Titus 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

Numbers 8:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto Aaron, and say unto him, When thou lightest the lamps, the seven lamps shall give light over against the candlestick.
3 And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses.
4 And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the LORD had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Galatians 4:5 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

John 9:5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

    Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
16 Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

Romans 6:15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

Philippians 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
    15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

“If you are still observing Israel’s sabbath, or adhering to the restricted diet of Leviticus 11, etc., you are telling people we’re under the Law!”

It is worthwhile to see what Paul had to say about such things:

Romans 14:5-6 “For indeed one judges a day to be above another day, but one judges every day alike. Let each be fully assured in the own mind. The one regarding the day, regards it to the Lord; the one eating, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and the one not eating, does not eat to the Lord and gives thanks to God.”

Romans 14:13-15 “No longer, therefore, should we judge one another; but rather determine this, not to put any stumbling block or snare before your brother. I know and I am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean of itself, except to him reckoning anything to be unclean—to that one it is unclean. For if on account of food your brother is grieved, no longer are you walking according to love. Do not destroy with food that one of you for whom Christ died.”

Now if the person were currently seeking to do things under the Mosaic Law or commanding others to do so in connection with salvation (cf. Acts 15:1-5, Galatians 3:1-5), that would be something to be challenged in the manner that it was per those two chapters of Scripture.

However, those esteeming one day above another or choosing to adhere to diet restrictions of Leviticus 11 don’t appear to receive the challenges and corrections Paul gave to those “wishing to be under the law” (cf. Galatians 4:21). That needs to be factored into what was written in the article concerning “shining the right light of light to lost sinners”. We must be careful to avoid raising any sort of hedge or restriction for those for whom Paul acknowledge have the freedoms affirmed in Romans 14.

Our Vice President is pro-life. If a murder is committed, then that is a state issue. Even if the state would refuse to prosecute, the killer should at least get quite a jolt knowing she will be branded as a murderer who got away with it.

Unfortunately, Roe v. Wade isn’t likely to be overturned. What needs to be done is for the DOJ to thoroughly investigate why these murders of aborted living-outside-the-womb children are not prosecuted. Harvesting organs of a living child can be called nothing less than homicide. Abortion did not kill the child; cutting the heart out did.

Animal rescue stories are often acts of a combination of love, determination, and courage. This video has a complex back story that involves all these characteristics. There was this elderly black dog that was abandoned near a California orchard. He appeared to be blind, had been hit by a car, and was afraid of people. Long story short, it took some dedicated animal rescuers 3 years to finally get this old dog to their vet. This is a story about saving a wonderful old dog. It’s also a story of some wonderful people determined to do good during a very bad time.

The new constitution also openly honors the Christian faith, officially recognizing the role of the Orthodox Church in the history and founding of the Russian state.

In an overwhelming win for the Church, millions of Orthodox Christians are coming to the polls, showing widespread support for the new Constitution and its traditional definition of marriage.

While today is the big day for the official vote, the polls have already been open for the past couple days. And the exit polls are stunning. VtsIOM, which stands for the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center, polled more than 163,000 voters in 25 regions of Russia. They found that 76% of respondents voted in favor of the Constitutional reforms.”

“If any man come to Me, and hate not…he cannot be My disciple.” Luke xiv. 26, also 27, 33

If the closest relationships of life clash with the claims of Jesus Christ, He says it must be instant obedience to Himself. Discipleship means personal, passionate devotion to a Person, Our Lord Jesus Christ. There is a difference between devotion to a Person and devotion to principles or to a cause. Our Lord never proclaimed a cause; He proclaimed personal devotion to Himself. To be a disciple is to be a devoted love-slave of the Lord Jesus. Many of us who call ourselves Christians are not devoted to Jesus Christ. No man on earth has this passionate love to the Lord Jesus unless the Holy Ghost has imparted it to him. We may admire Him, we may respect Him and reverence Him, but we cannot love Him. The only Lover of the Lord Jesus is the Holy Ghost, and He sheds abroad the very love of God in our hearts. Whenever the Holy Ghost sees a chance of glorifying Jesus, He will take your heart, your nerves, your whole personality, and simply make you blaze and glow with devotion to Jesus Christ.

The Christian life is stamped by ‘moral spontaneous originality,’ consequently the disciple is open to the same charge that Jesus Christ was, viz., that of inconsistency. But Jesus Christ was always consistent to God, and the Christian must be consistent to the life of the Son of God in him, not consistent to hard and fast creeds. Men pour themselves into creeds, and God has to blast them out of their prejudices before they can become devoted to Jesus Christ.

And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32.

Do not retaliate despite your first human instinct to do so. Instead, respond with love and grace as God has given to us despite our many sins. Pray for the evil doers to soften their hearts and seek God before it is too late.

Many Christian and Jewish people seem to forget or no longer believe that Gehenna exists. As a result they lose hope. Many go on to believe and act as the evil. If there is no punishment for sin, for evil actions and beliefs, why bother to love and forgive? Yet, the faithful of the Lord know how terrible the place of eternal suffering for sin is and desire for none to experience it for eternity. It is true there is power in love and forgiveness of even those who commit evil. Yet, we know the primary reason to do it is because God did it for us on that tree.

This claim leads straight to the question: Cardinal Dolan, child of the light or child of darkness? Good Shepherd, or Deep Church?

Got a call from my Congressperson’s office this AM about an issue and, while we were talking, I mentioned an issue that’s been on his desk now for about 2 years. I’ve posted about it here from Day One but stopped just over a year in as it seemed to be stuck in his ‘Things Too Hard to Do’ box.

Issue is: how many reported instances have there been 2000 to date of US military and LEA running into Mexican military and/or police inside of US territory? I know there have been hundreds – those of us who were military working the border with BP had to take a class on what to do were you to encounter either Mexican military or police inside of US territory – and I’m not talking feet, I’m talking MILES inside of sovereign US territory. There was even a DHS report on the numbers, over 10 years ago, that seems to have become ‘limited distribution’…very limited.

My interest was rekindled in April of last year when an incident made the news, when an Army officer and enlisted man were detained and disarmed at gunpoint by Mexican police just outside of Clint, Texas. The military personnel were sitting well north of the Rio Grande and watched the Mexican military cross the river. The Mexican military wore no identifying patches on their uniforms other than the Mexican flag and after detaining the US soldiers the Mexican troops crossed the Rio Grande. Official US take is that the Mexicans were ‘lost’ and ‘unfamiliar with the confusing border’ but (a) from the description of their uniforms and weapons they were carrying they seem to be a special unit, (b) there’s a large BP station at Clint and the Mexicans know that (there’s a bunch in detention there), and (c) who in Mexico doesn’t know the Rio Grande is the border and there’s no way a military group (even a Mexican one) would be deployed to the border without a briefing on where the border is and what’s around it. At least the Mexicans didn’t shoot at our guys as they’ve done in the past.

That this issue is one that the government doesn’t want to touch is no surprise. I’d called regularly over the months and the last story I received was that my request was in the Congressional Research Office, (CRO) who’s in charge of digging up info for Congressionals I was told, and that they were terribly, terribly backed up so I shouldn’t hold my breath. Well as of this AM my Congressperson’s office can’t find my request anywhere in my file, the nice lady went back to 2011 in my file and nsada…seems to have vanished into thin air…or maybe it was a coronavirus victim. Anyway, if I want I can start over and they’ll send the CRO another request but the CRO is terribly backlogged and yada, yada, yada.

No one wants to touch the issue of Mexican military and police operating in US territory, detaining, shooting at or God knows what else to US citizens on US soil. Among other things that might be brought out is the government ALLEGEDLY giving the Mexican government permission to work counterdrug operations within the US within a certain distance of the border without US oversight. That US government and civilian personnel have been extra-Constitutionally detained, disarmed and shot at by these Mexican government personnel on US soil seems to be of little interest to the government, especially Congress, is…uncomfortable.

Calif. Gov Newsom just held a press conference on the state of COVID-19 in the state. I’ll point out three things from this:

    1) When asked why protests have not been clamped down and folks have been allowed to ignore masks/social distancing he said (and I’m paraphrasing) that the first amendment trumps his orders.

    2) When asked about rules for religious worship, he pointed to an order (linked below) that requires masks and social distancing and other stuff. Apparently only PART of the first amendment trumps his orders. Too bad nobody asked about that.

    3) Asked about enforcement of backyard gatherings this weekend that would violate his rules, he acknowledged that there’s no way to prevent mass disregard for his orders. Despite his attempt to shame people who might do this…it’s an explicit acknowledgement that without consent of the governed, he is powerless. I wonder how many folks noticed that point.

Compared to the attitude of the mayor of Seattle to the murders in CHAZ Antifastan I find this sheriff’s attitude calming, funny that. Reminds me of Cool Hand Luke

This would really confuse BLM today

    lilbirdee12’s prayer:

Our Heavenly Father, Your children come to you tonight to ask for healing and peace throughout our country so that we may return to being One Nation Under God. Guide us to be leaders in Your Kingdom, spreading Your Love and Salvation to all. Forgive us our sins and deliver us from evil.

Lord, we ask for a blanket of protection over all our troops and law enforcement who serve to defend and protect us. Bless our representatives with the strength and wisdom they need to achieve the path You have chosen for us.

Please place Your Guardian Angels of Protection around Donald Trump and Mike Pence and their families as they seek to lead America back to You.

Grant us patience, Lord, as the evil ones try to anger us and cause us to fall.
Spread blessings over Israel and Netanyahu.

We humbly ask that You please comfort those who are grieving and in pain.
Thank you Father, for Your Love and the gift of Life.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.

A prayer for Justice Kavanaugh and Gen. Flynn:

    Prayer to St. Michael

    St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle;
be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
    May God rebuke him, we humbly pray;
and do you, O prince of the heavenly host,
    by the power of God,
thrust into hell Satan and the other evil spirits
who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

In Jesus name, we pray. Amen.
