Wednesday June 3rd – Open Thread

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. THY WILL BE DONE, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but DELIVER US FROM EVIL.

For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen †

Where can I find a timeline for Monday’s events in DC? I know the Rose Garden speech ended at 6:50pm. I know the DC curfew was 7pm. What time did the cops move people back from Lafayette? I see MSM saying police just fired smoke bombs at peaceful protestors around 6:30 for no reason. Then I read at WSJ that the cops told them to move back via loud speaker and didn’t fire smoke bombs till right at 7pm. I also read the “peaceful protesters” were throwing frozen water bottles and glass bottles at police but can’t find a video. I’m interested in clearing up the events from Monday night in DC. 😇

My oldest lo seeking serikous sresearch articles on crime statistics by race, ethnicity, age, social factors and economic attainment . At one time the FBI UCR had a very logical and easily perused format of this sort of information but then #44 happened . I’m certain there’s still on-going research in these areas by serious statisticians and social problem investigators We’d apprciate any sjugesstons for sources and/or researchers yo0u might know of .

The Gottfredson presentation that Moly did may include some discussion of social factors and econ attainment info, I seem to recall that it does. It’s quite long, and because the expert is being interviewed, there is not a ‘source list’ as there is for his own work on crime. To find this interview, go to youtube and in the search bar there, enter ‘molyneux gottfredson.’ It’s the 2 hour interview uploaded Dec 29, 2015.

You might also look for a copy of the book “THE CRIME NUMBERS GAME: MANAGEMENT BY MANIPULATION,” by Eterno and Silverman.

(It’s gotten expensive since back when it first came out. Hardcover first edition is now $215 on Amazon. Paperback selling for $75 – $83. Wow.)

“In the mid-1990s, the NYPD created a performance management strategy known as Compstat. It consisted of computerized data, crime analysis, and advanced crime mapping coupled with middle management accountability and crime strategy meetings with high-ranking decision makers. While initially credited with a dramatic reduction in crime, questions quickly arose as to the reliability of the data. The Crime Numbers Game: Management by Manipulation brings together the work of two criminologists one a former NYPD captain who present the first in-depth empirical analysis of this management system exposing the truth about crime statistics manipulation in the NYPD and the repercussions suffered by crime victims and those who blew the whistle on this corrupt practice.”

The corrupt practice … went nationwide …

    Grace And Debt

    by Pastor Cornelius R. Stam

“Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on Him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness” (Rom. 4:4,5).

As we look back at all the Old Testament types: the physical types, the narratives, the sacrifices, we exclaim: “The cross was not an accident, nor an afterthought on God’s part: He had it in mind all the while.” Surely Paul was right when he said of believers that “[God] hath saved us and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began” (II Tim. 1:9).

It is on the basis of the cross, typified all through the Old Testament, that God now saves us by grace through faith alone, and the types show that this was indeed His eternal purpose. Furthermore salvation should be by grace through faith.

As our text, above, declares: if man could earn his salvation it would be the payment of a debt, not the bestowal of a gift — and God will never be indebted to anyone. He will never be in a position where He owes us, sinners, a debt. Nor will He ever allow us to disgrace ourselves and annoy others by our boasting about how we earned eternal life. But He can, on the basis of the penalty paid at Calvary, bestow salvation as a free gift. This is why we read:

“The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, through Jesus Christ, our Lord” (Rom. 6:23).

“It is the gift of God, not of works, lest any man should boast” (Eph. 2:8,9).

God owed Abraham nothing, but seeing his faith He said, in effect: “This man believes Me; I will count his faith for righteousness” (Gen. 15:6). And this He still does for those who trust Him, only He has now revealed the basis for this action: Christ’s payment for sins at Calvary. This is why, in Romans 4:5, He forbids works for salvation and declares that the believer’s faith is “counted for righteousness.”

  12. Donna in Oregon says:

The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts, and I am helped. – Psalm 28:7

In modern media, a shield is often depicted like the star-spangled one that Captain America holds. However, Roman soldiers carried shields that were the size of a door. They could protect the full length of the body, including the most vulnerable areas such as the heart. Shields were mostly made of wood and covered in heavy animal hide with a sheet of linen cloth added to the front.

Before a battle, soldiers would dip their shields into water so that when fiery arrows hit them, the wet hide would extinguish the darts. During battle, the shield was held with the arm straight, holding a grip in the middle. The grip was across a hole cut from the middle of the shield. This hole was protected by a metal boss, a hemisphere of iron with an iron plate around it. The soldier could push this boss into his enemy to knock him off balance.

As a follower of Jesus Christ, you enter a battlefield with a very real enemy every day. And as the war wages, you must put on your spiritual armor so as not to leave yourself vulnerable on the battlefield. The shield that protects you comes from the Lord and Him alone. So regularly pray and immerse yourself in the living water of God’s Word. Trust in Him so that when the enemy shoots arrows of doubt, discouragement, lies or fear, you can push back against him. And each time your Heavenly Father gives you victory, praise Him with thanksgiving!

Remember also to pray for the president that he would stand firm against the enemy’s attacks as he leads America.

    Today’s Verse: Psalm 28:7
    The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
    my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.

10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

It really is the litmus test of faith and for humankind in general. How do you treat the children? What do you personally believe about life beginning at conception? For me it is a “do not pass go, do not collect $200” question. So when I see the anti-Christs of the world posing with “religious” leaders, I see evil. To actually attend a church led by a Satanist or vote for a politician who is one is a denial of Christ. I would rather be dead than to do that.

    On this day ~
    June 3, 1926
✝️ Bob Childress and his family packed into the car and headed for the hills of Buffalo Mountain Virginia. “We’ve got a [mission] field in the mountains where they’re shooting each other, they’re ignorant, they don’t have a chance, they have no schools or Sunday schools,” the Presbytery had told Bob, “There’s enough work to kill you, but we’ll furnish you a living while you’re at it.” For the next thirty years Bob poured himself out for the mountain people, establishing churches and schools. He visited five or more families a day. For years he had the only car on the mountain, and he took people to the doctor and the hospital. On Sundays he traveled a circuit of 100 miles on the mountain, preaching four or five sermons. In winter, when his car couldn’t make it through the snow, he went to church on a mule or by horse and buggy. Under his ministry the mountain became more civilized and the killings less frequent. Christ changed the hearts of many people on Buffalo Mountain.

  24. just stevie says:

“The secret (friendship R.V.) of the Lord is with them that fear Him.” Psalm xxv. 14

What is the sign of a friend? That he tells you secret sorrows? No, that he tells you secret joys. Many will confide to you their secret sorrows, but the last mark of intimacy is to confide secret joys. Have we ever let God tell us any of His joys, or are we telling God our secrets so continually that we leave no room for Him to talk to us? At the beginning of our Christian life we are full of requests to God, then we find that God wants to get us into relationship with Himself, to get us in touch with His purposes. Are we so wedded to Jesus Christ’s idea of prayer – “Thy will be done” – that we catch the secrets of God? The things that make God dear to us are not so much His great big blessings as the tiny things, because they show His amazing intimacy with us; He knows every detail of our individual lives.

“…him shall He teach in the way that He shall choose.” At first we want the consciousness of being guided by God, then as we go on we live so much in the consciousness of God that we do not need to ask what His will is, because the thought of choosing any other will never occur to us. If we are saved and sanctified God guides us by our ordinary choices, and if we are going to choose what He does not want, He will check, and we must heed. Whenever there is doubt, stop at once. Never reason it out and say – “I wonder why I shouldn’t?” God instructs us in what we choose, that is, He guides our common sense, and we no longer hinder His Spirit by continually saying – “Now, Lord, what is Thy will?”

  33. Is there a way for the federal govt (FG) to do forensic accounting on a state that says it is bankrupt (but cannot file as such)? Can the FG say “no you’re not cutting police and firemen, you’ll cut all political staff in half first. Then cut bureaucracy jobs.”

NY, CA, and many others need to be given a Drano enema. Stage 1A: deport tens of thousands of illegals whether they’re receiving state money or not.

Stage 2: forensic accounting of the welfare recipients, fining, jailing, or sentencing them to real community service.

In CA that would save billions per year.
