Figured it was time to check in on the Democratic Socialists again. Here is their “Beyond Bernie” statement. They are going to be focusing on the local elections. If you want to see the 2020 Dimm platform, it is the Democratic Socialist wish list. Finally, their leaders are telling the comrades not to vote for Biden or Trump. Again.

Not a long read. Gives us their play sheet.

Yep…they were well organized BLM/Anitfa last night….driving cars with lots of propane tanks down to the protest and then throwing the tanks into existing fires to totally burn the place down. Me thinks those weren’t innocent protesters, but paid agitators. Today, on cue, we get a visit from Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to help stir things up. I am heading to the lake….let Minneapolis burn. You get what you vote for.

US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order aimed at the major social media platforms, denouncing the tech behemoths as “tantamount to a monopoly.” The order may alter Section 230, which protects them from litigation.
Trump signed the order, which aims to modify the legal protections currently shielding Big Tech from lawsuits over content hosted on its platforms, on Thursday as he addressed reporters at the White House.

Excoriating the platforms for what he and many others believe to be editorial bias, the president added that US Attorney General William Barr will also be tasked with working with states to enforce legal restrictions on social media firms.

While Trump admitted challenges to the new order from tech firms were likely, he seemed confident his administration would be able to weather the storm.

But, one other point, when the economy was booming and people were working, including record employment for blacks, there was no rioting or looting.

The new Health Department info released late Monday adds 1,700 presumed coronavirus deaths to the grim total, suggesting that COVID-19 complications have killed 4,813 residents of nursing homes and adult-care facilities — and that doesn’t include those who died in hospitals.

The total number of military personnel killed was 2,335, including 2,008 navy personnel, 109 marines, and 218 army. “…Fauci suggested Wednesday to “reserve judgment” about whether political conventions could be held in-person with large crowds gathered in a confined space and to wait to see a “really significant diminution” in the number of new cases and hospitalizations.
“I think we need to reserve judgment right now because we’re still a few months from there. Hopefully we will see that diminution. If we don’t, then as I’ve said before, I would have significant reservations about that,” Fauci said.

Asked if it’s safe for schools to reopen with safety restrictions, Fauci said there needs to be “judgment according to the situation on the ground” and that “we can’t say that one size fits all.” Earlier this month, Fauci told lawmakers that schools in some places should remain closed in the fall and warned that reopening states too quickly could have dire consequences, resulting in more suffering and death that could be avoidable — which led Trump to publicly voice frustration with Fauci.

Fauci, however, expressed optimism about a vaccine that could be ready by November or December if “all the things fall in the right place.”
The infectious disease expert also cast doubt on the use of hydroxychloroquine as a treatment for coronavirus. Trump, who has frequently disregarded guidance from his own administration, claimed he was taking daily doses of the drug earlier this month.
“The scientific data is really quite evident now about the lack of efficacy for it,” Fauci told CNN Wednesday of the drug Trump has touted, adding that there’s likelihood of “adverse events with regard to cardiovascular.”

Fauci has previously said his relationship with Trump is not contentious, and Trump has insisted as much previously. In person, officials have told CNN this is mostly accurate. They haven’t engaged in huge shouting matches or sniping. But Trump’s irritation at being publicly undermined has been evident in conversations with his friends and aides, when he’s complained that Fauci doesn’t seem to be on his side…”

ICYMI – FYI — Fake Study Exposed Part 3 — Concerns regarding the statistical analysis and data integrity

This open letter is signed by More than a 100 clinicians, medical researchers, statisticians, and ethicists from across the world.

This scrutiny has raised both methodological and data integrity concerns. The main concerns are listed as follows:

    1. There was inadequate adjustment for known and measured confounders (disease severity, temporal effects, site effects, dose used).

    2. The authors have not adhered to standard practices in the machine learning and statistics community. They have not released their code or data. There is no data/code sharing and availability statement in the paper. The Lancet was among the many signatories on the Wellcome statement on data sharing for COVID-19 studies.

    3. There was no ethics review.

    4. There was no mention of the countries or hospitals that contributed to the data source and no acknowledgments to their contributions. A request to the authors for information on the contributing centres was denied.

    5. Data from Australia are not compatible with government reports (too many cases for just five hospitals, more in-hospital deaths than had occurred in the entire country during the study period). Surgisphere (the data company) have since stated this was an error of classification of one hospital from Asia. This indicates the need for further error checking throughout the database.

    6. Data from Africa indicate that nearly 25% of all COVID-19 cases and 40% of all deaths in the continent occurred in Surgisphere associated hospitals which had sophisticated electronic patient data recording, and patient monitoring able to detect and record “nonsustained [at east 6 secs] or sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation”. Both the numbers of cases and deaths, and the detailed data collection, seem unlikely.

    7. Unusually small reported variances in baseline variables, interventions and outcomes between continents(Table S3).

    8. Mean daily doses of hydroxychloroquine that are 100 mg higher than FDA recommendations, whereas 66% of the data are from North American hospitals.

    9. Implausible ratios of chloroquine to hydroxychloroquine use in some continents

    10. The tight 95% confidence intervals reported for the hazard ratios are unlikely. For instance, for the Australian data this would need about double the numbers of recorded deaths as were reported in the paper.

Top vaccine scientist says coronavirus is ‘almost perfectly human adapted’
    By Lia EustachewichMay 27, 2020 | 9:12am | Updated

he coronavirus that causes COVID-19 is “almost perfectly human adapted” — lending credence to the possibility it was man-made in a Chinese lab, a top Australian vaccine researcher says.

Nikolai Petrovsky was shocked when research found that the virus was more virulent in humans than any other animal, the Daily Mail reported.

He said it was like the new strain of coronavirus, called SARS-CoV-2, was “completely optimized from day one without the need to evolve” like other viruses.

He said it is possible the virus was created in a lab in China — deepening suspicions that the global pandemic originated in Wuhan.

  32. Mask update: I tested the mandatory mask order here in Buncombe County NC today. First, I talked with the county manager on Tuesday and he told me that the mask mandate was not a law or a rule…hmmm….still not sure what it is.

So, today I went into Asheville to see if I would be able to shop in Harris Teeters and Trader Joe’s. My strategy was that I was just going to walk in and if stopped and told to wear a mask I would repeat what the county manager said and then ask them why they were requiring masks. I went to Harris Teeters first. This is a very busy store as it is the only large grocery store in downtown Asheville and the prices are good.

I decided not look at anyone or talk to anyone; I just walked right in. Surprisingly, there was no one at the door including the security guard who is normally there. I immediately turned right into the produce department which is the main reason for going there as they have a pretty good selection of organic produce at really good prices. I had brought my own bag so I started selecting the produce I wanted and stuffed it into my bag quickly, thinking if I was stopped they would l let me pay for what was in the bag. No one approached me or said anything. I was waiting for a snotty customer but nope, nothing.

Everyone had a mask on. I then went through the store and selected the items I needed…I saw two other people without masks and this is a big store with a good amount of people in it. But no dirty looks, no reaction from the mask zombies. I think not making eye contact and moving fast is a good strategy.

The cashier was friendly and I exited with no problems at all. So, I figured I would move on to Trader Joe’s. I planned on stocking up on the items I need and that can store for long periods of time in case I can’t get back in.

Now, much of their business comes from upcountry…people who do not live in Asheville, but come to Trader Joe’s to stock up because their prices are really good. I had heard from my neighbor that people were really angry about the mask mandate and were not going to wear a mask or go to Asheville. Usually there is a bit of a line to get in because they limit the number of people inside, but when I arrived there was absolutely no line at all for the first time…I would say my neighbor was right. I walked up to the door and the employee who hands you your sanitized cart asked me if I had a mask. I said no. She said, actually apologetically, oh, that’s ok, we just wanted you to know about the ordinance or something like that. I noticed a poster board headlined Ordinance or something which I ignored. She gave me my cart and I walked in…no problem.

I think I was the only one without a mask, but everyone was fine, no dirty looks, no comments, nothing and the employees were all really nice. They actually have really nice employees. Even had a brief conversation with one person. He was wearing a mask which means he was hard to understand, but the employees all have to wear them.

So I worked out fine; don’t know if this will change, but for some reason it’s almost as if the tension was gone and everyone just minded their own business.

I love Orwell’s essay on bureaucratese where he points out that all those “concernings” and “related to” and all those other wordy phrases may sound erudite, but that the awkward phrasing is actually caused by vagueness earlier in.the sentence….

G.O. wrote that a sentence like “we will discuss news relating to the pandemic” (my example), the way HRC and O love to talk, should (for clarity’s sake) be “we will discuss pandemic news” or just “we’ll discuss the pandemic, ” leaving the unnecessary and vague words like “news” out altogether — either use a specific word or put in an adjective in the right place; don’t include whole clauses dangling at the end….and he pointed out how government officials love to substitute phrases for simple words resulting in just what you said, J2nd….talk and talk, but leave people an hour later wondering what was said.

That essay is what I think of every time I hear Faucci talk….What was that he said, instead of talking about when the contagion lessens or diminishes — the “diminunition” of the virus, was it? He’s a bureaucratic kind of guy.

I am 100% a police backer…but in Minneapolis there is a 150 year history of the police union and the government taking care of each other through graft, endorsements, etc. Lived in the city for 25 years and moved out to the ‘burbs a few years ago to escape the crappy government, potholes, property taxes, and police problems. I saw the city’s blow up coming…..and got out!

Anyone here from WA? I know a couple of people who work for the same company in WA. The company recently received notice that these two individuals have filed for unemployment (weeks apart). Both of these people are still working and have NOT filed for unemployment. Apparently you can just file online. Wow. Rampant fraud.
